HTC Sense - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Is there a way to use the htc sense feature without the touchflo3d theme? That theme takes up so much memory and I want to change it but I don't want to lose my htc sense functionality. HELP PLEASE!
I would prefer if I could do it without changing ROMs bc i'm not an expert when it comes to that but if that is the case than can u tell me something easiest one to install and some instructions or just point me to a page with instructions!

What are you even asking here?... what feature do you want 'out of' touchflo that you dont want the actual "touchflo/manilla/sense interface running..... What you're asking just doesn't make sense. You'll have to reword it cause basically from what it sounds like the answer is no..
It's like asking can I take in a breath of air without actually inhaling. (people don't make sarcastic comments about how you can somehow breath without inhaling )
Give a little more info... what phone you have, what you are running on it (stock rom etc etc)
all that good stuff and maybe we can help you out here.
You MIGHT want to try a different interface that isnt as big of a memory hog like pointui or spb mobile shell. Each of those has themes that can mimic sense

No, no, the correct statement is that one can SMOKE (grass) without inhaling...

OK, I'm equally confused as to what you are asking, but if you want a response you need to provide details on exactly what version of software you are using, and which device and WM version you have.

LOL... I'm sorry for the confusion!
I have the HTC Tilt 2
Running stock rom
But I did a little reading and I see that htc sense is actually a part of touchflo 3d so I guess u can't do what i'm asking...
I was basically asking can u get the facebook integration without using the touchflo 3d, i used the spb shell it's not the same it didn't really sync(show statuses, change pictures automatically, or show updates) it just let u use a profile pic as a contact picture.
On another note: As I was reading I came across a lot of people talking about this twitter app that's suppose to be apart of htc sense called "peep" but it isn't on my phone, is it only on certain phones... what's the deal with it?

From what I've seen and read, the AT$T Tilt 2 does not have the Sense 2.5 UI enhancement, just regular TouchFlo3D. The Twitter app is part of the Sense enhancement.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_Sense

oh ok... so is there a way to get the enhancements?
I will look into seeing if i can find it but if anyone already knows how please share.
As i said i'm fairly new at all this so please excuse my ignorance of certain things

Yep you have to flash a new rom with sense 2.5 in it... go into the rom section and read the sticky threads at the top. They dumb it down so a monkey can do it.

ROMs and Should I?

Hello,
I keep seeing in these forums many threads regarding ROMs. I know what they are but my question is...why should I mess with it. I have an HTC Touch GSM with WM6. Now if you tell me I can get the interface in general to be quicker and the wifi to connect sooner, then i'm sold.
Cheers,
Paul

youll be very suprised at how much of a difference it makes to flash your phone with a rom itll make it faster due to the applications that u dont use water down ur programming memory and that can be released and run faster with them gone ...just look around and find one that fits ur use..promise u will be happy...just one thing to remember ..Read he insructions carefully and dont be scared to ask any questions ..have fun
Perfection,
I guess so, sound logical. What would be the best ROM for the HTC Touch GSM, I've always felt that the phone is a little hesistant, and I've done the best that i've could in stoping animations, sounds and some registry hacks. I mostly use the Office Suite, Messenger, Skype and Netfront Browser. Then on trips the mp3 player and cameras.
Just in case I have a whole assortment of 3rd party software like: Pocket CM, PCM Keyboard, SIP Change and SPB Mobile Shell, in case it's neccessary to know.
Also, how does one go abouts installing this, i have both Mac and PC, so as you said i'm not scared of asking or trying things out, my Treo 650 I've dont a hell a lot to it, and it still runs good, but the HTC is it's replacement.
Cheers,
Paul

Well i my self have a herald or atlas >>or normal people call it the t-mobile wing so i wouldnt know exactly which one is the best
for that model but i have done alot od flashing and u always need to just post a question to the senoir members they know alot of the info and work arounds.....I promise they will make a difference ..send them private message its faster..and if ur phone is a
touch then go to the forums that show the names >>> Vogue or the Elf just look at them to see whihc one looks like urs...speak or ask the question for better programming speed to on of the senoir members it should show if they are seniors under there names.
Will do, thanks again Perfection3.

To be honest...(about roms)

I'm getting bored of all those roms which passes trough the TD forum. They all look the same, have the same and are the same. Why is this? Is it not possible to help each other for working on a great rom with very nice features?
This is not to disrespect people for making a rom...i am very proud of those people, but in the last 4 months the roms are all the same. Ok, this rom has a newer dll then that rom, but the part what is really interesting (video support for instance) are never been touched.
I didnt searched for a new roms for 2 months, but after coming back on this forum everything is still the same...
Hopefully the Android part will fire up this community.

I am getting bored too but bored about all the cooked ROM got problem which hang... And after many ROM, back to original ROM 6.0 version 17xxx (so old) where it's 20755.
I hope i know how to cook later....
Strange, never had any problems with any rom, cooked or not. Maybe an hardware issue?
i am looking for the rom of the roms too,
but i cant find it.
why? the roms have to legal, no cracked software or no legal software from user xyz (because that not legal too, if i used the legal software from xyz).
if you want the rom of the roms than do it like me: learning cooking and using your own legal software. all the kitchens are to strong for me. there is no klick-next-kitchen for people like me. so i used and learned all days a little bit more and more (i worked with pc's since 1985 and now i was a admin of a cc with 700 users) ... and its not easy for me to understand some threads where cooking-users writes " .. and now you can cooking ..."
hmm ... really, i can? four pda's and three years later, i can see a little structure and iam glad to say, i used my own rom with my personal needed software and tweaks.
so, say what is your wishes to your rom? what do you want in your pda?
okokur
yeah, i used to flash every new release, but it has been over a month with the same rom. nothing really new lately. but new builds and blackstone features will be available soon. 1.99 or 2.0 roms should be not far off. hopefully
yea im with Blazeitup, haven't flashed for a while, im kinda waiting for something amazing (namely Android )
I agree with you all look the same i dont realy see a differents.
Maybe can we make a website so we can see what rom has what future's
How can you expect anyone to come up with "something amazing", when you haven't given a clue as to what you want? It's a phone, not a magic wand. If you have a need that has not been fulfilled, perhaps you should explain it instead of waiting for someone to provide you with a digital orgasm?

Since I made the point, I suppose I should give my list of priorities.
#1 - UC compliant. The differences between these ROMS are small, and without features to make it easier to setup the unit, its more trouble than its worth. UC seems perfect for this, yet is little used on the Diamond.
#2 Stability. It's Windows. Surely better stability is the key improvement. Tweak away.
#3 Speed. Who cares how fast applications run? You arent crunching numbers on a phone. The UI, on the other hand, you would like to be velvety smooth and easy to use. Tweak away.
#4 UI and finger use improvements. Again, it's Windows. The more help the better.
#5 Put the latest WM kernals and such in. They added them for SOME reason, didn't they?
#6 Dont remove useful apps. Maybe YOU don't use RSS hub, but I do. Sure, take out clearly useless things like Video tours, sample files, and Windows Update that isnt implemented. But not *apps*. OK, maybe Opera, since a newer one is probably coming every three days. And I'd even vote for removing Cyberon VC, because MS Voice Command works much better for me. But please dont strip out Adobe, RSS, blah blah.
#7 Add just a few universal apps. Maybe YOU love Unisofts' WM photo blog pud pulling editor, but is it really a universal ROM item? OK, add Total Commander, and a decent registry editor. And maybe one or two of the good tweaking programs. But take it easy, OK? We can add what we need.
And after this, it will still be very close to the same ROM your phone came with. But what did you expect, a silk purse from a sow's ear? It is still WM, after all. But it's a little better, easier to retweak if you need to again, smooth UI, and no fatal flaws. That's all we really need. Umm, unless someone wants to rewrite ActiveSync? Buehler? Anyone?
My two cents. Thanks a million to all you cookers!
And while I'm here, can someone figure out how to list more than one G*damn appointment on the TF3D screen? This is a business tool. Really, I don't need a 48 point clock!

F*g up the thread? Are you kidding me?
You said nothing useful, and I tried to make it relevent.
hi
children please stop swearing
from my point of that it will be fantastic create xda dev rom only one with best solution for everything for example
1 group software
2 group drivers
3 system files
4 tweaks
5 graphic
....................
get best people from forum to be in charge of each group and come out with something better then htc teach htc how to do best rom i know everyone like different roms but each rom have same drivers same system files and almost same graphic just software are different which you can install your self I'm little drank so if I f...ck about I'm sorry
I agree with DrewVS Post #11 this thread
I currently have a cdma (telus) Diamond and am running juicy's 2.5 rom it is bare and stable I add what progs i need. That being said I am trying to find a good tutorial to teach me the basics of cooking for my phone so I can do a rom that has EXACTLY what I want in it. The main problem that I have encountered is that finding any tuts that are remotly understandable for n00bs (to cooking) like me are almost non-existant. I think that a basic rom that tweaks your gps and helps with battery life and removes all propietary bloatware are really all that is needed by any1 and if you can't load a theme or your own proggies then perhaps a PPC is not really for you. I am not trying to start a argument but is there any real need to swear at peeps just because you have a differance of opinion?
Unrealpun
I saw this quote over at ppcgeek and find it very apt to this thread:
"The main diffrences between a smart person and a wise person
-a smart person knows what to say
-a wise person knows whether or not to say it"

He has a perfectly relevant point.
Not to mention, his point is pretty politically correct. But I too am with Drew.
I have been using Dutty's rom however udK just released a beta ROM with lots of Blackstone and Raphael features.
Maybe this is up your alley that you are looking for? Something a bit different from the norm - My usage so far has indicated that the ROM is great!
Very speedy with some nice new added bonuses!
The comment about Blackstone and Raphael features was intriguing. Can you elaborate? I didn't see much explaining that.

this is why i love lite roms with NOTHING built in...
so you get to customize it all by yourself...
until now what i see is people who remove bloatware and add in their own bloatware... so there are tons of roms with really unnecessary applications removed but tons more added on... together with really ugly start up screens that feature somebody else's name, on your phone!
that was until i came across christonge's thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411561
he's made the perfect rom, all you needa do is customize it to your own liking...
so if you've gotten his rom and you don't like it, you've only got yourself to blame...
perfect sample
This tred shows perfectly that there is no ideal ROM. Other people want other thing in rom, some add feature, some light rom, some pure original but tweak... etc..
So this anwer your Q why there is ..

Qn: Better to cook with OEM or CAB?

i need to know from those expert chefs. is it better to cook programs via OEM or CAB? does having more OEMs causes the rom to lag? other than pagepool, how do you boost the speed of a rom? and does having a pagepool of more than 32Mb causes some stability issue?
reason im asking is because im trying to customise a custom rom. manila-wise, it works well, except... i have no idea why my photo-video album from the manila lags for a very very very long time before i can select different folders.
i hope to get some answers cos it's kinda difficult getting straight answers around here. yes i know google, forum search etc etc. which i already did. im not asking to be spoonfed. im asking to be taught how to fish so i can fish on my own. bit by bit.
btw, i own a gsm touch diamond. i hope to get some reply.

It's better to cook using oem as a cab takes more space i.e space for the cab then space for the installed version so can take nearly double the space.
There should be no speed differences.
Pagepool of 32Mb is going to lead to very little memory left for programs to run in
P.S don't expect somebody to answer your question within 1 day, It's only just over 8 hours and you post a comment like that.
OEM is better, but if you delete the CABs after the installation there won't be wasted disk space... it's equal!
thanx shaks. appreciate the answer. does official rom has some sort of 'build' as the custom ones have? what are rgu and dsm and why does bepe tools delete them when they are necessary in rom building?
not equal!!!!
cabs will install after first boot. and than resarts.
sometime its needed read by 100 persons for get an answer.

Hmm, maybe he had a bad day (which doesn't justiy his actions); I checked his other posts and they were quite normal.
Other than that, the info he was asking was in the stickies, which shows that he was expecting us to spoonfeed him, instead of reading up.
i do NOT need to be spoonfed. i read through even looked up wiki mind you. but sifting through pages after pages looking for answers doesnt help. i ONLY ask as a last resort. i have learnt to "arghh go to hell with it" if chefs locked their rom. it's just like Microsoft. take it or leave it. i know how to edit a custom/official rom. BUUUUUT, i started out with the old version. im learning how to use ervius kitchen and still am. ROM development is supposed to be open and shared. when mondilv decided to leave bcos chefs were locking their rom yet still asked for donations in their sig, i understood & agreed completely. locking a rom only serves to justify "it's mine and there's nothing you can do to try and hack my hack. only i have the key. if there's bugs, i can try to rectify it bcos you're too dumb to create something just like mine" it's stingy dont you think so? it's NOT hacking a hack. it's improving it. so learners like myself can compare how custom roms work. why does this work on this but not that? etc etc..
all of us start somewhere. the experts included. the difference is how well we can read/translate codes. i for one, learn by comparing. and there's nothing to compare if roms are locked.
so thank you.
Lets keep us to the thread instead, also you DefJamz.
What you are asking about, can be found here.
Poor community spirit among XDA cooks
[Q] Locked roms, unable to dump, do the chefs hide something?
Ontopic I would say that it depends on what you cook into it. If you make a .cab for manila, I would say it's slower than when it's cooked in the rom by default.
Cabs are good for minor changes, like messenger updated, album update. Small things, so you don't have to re-flash everytime u find a bug.

i agree. but some folks crazy like myself, wishes to remove/add some stuff via oem. and yeah, i have been reflashing hundreds of times due to me NOT being happy that something small didnt turn out correctly as how i want it to be. imagine this, i rather extract the contents of a cab (manilas or those files that writes themselves into /windows) and paste. why? bcos i hate seeing programs building up into the 'remove program' feature. why? bcos all that i installed in my own modified custom rom is what i need. which is why i prefer oem. but now it's extremely rare to find one that isnt locked. i hate audio/images/samples/programs that i know i wont use at all. i rather remove them and save the extra valuable space for other programs.
im still a very long way from being a complete chef. but sadly, locked custom rom has hindered my progress and now i have to just like everyone else, swallow the pill and deal with it.
edit: and i thought i was the only one grumbling abt locked roms.
dont forget one thing about your grrrrr'ring of locked roms:
you cant get any better reason to start cooking and being a master chef as locked-roms-reason.
i startet with downlading all roms for my device (sometimes for other=bricked)
and hope, that the next time it will exist a combine of bepe and diamond-project. at least, it would not get an equal combine roms and i have to start again with cooking (after long break becauce bricking) roms. the best start could be recooking and deleting not needed/wanted applications. but both cookers locked there roms. o.k. ... ? !!!
now i am in a position to cook that what i really want ... not really,
from 100% i give me 95% of really want and the rest 5% are random.
the most problem is getting new stuff or stable versions of existing stuff.
and here come the other cooker or members with power of interesting to upload for volks.
forgot the locked cookers/chefs, they have do their really good things long time ago and they lost a little bit the spirit of this forum.
i can understand, that some chefs/masters dont give for 546 times the same answer of a question two thread before and five threads before and ...
and one thing helps me really good, other xda-forums with using google-translator. this is the mother of xda-forums, but dont forget uncle, brother, sister and very good looking cuisine ...
have questions. than ask. sometime have wait and sometime have nerv and nerv and nerv again (sorrry, nerv is german, dont know english word and google-translator is on an other tab ..

From my experience, there are can be some speed differences.
An OEM with modules (can be UPXed) files will be faster, and take up less room than an exe installed by a cab. And it'll launch faster.

[REQ] I Need A Kick Ass Interface.

Okay So Im Using Miri's ROM (Which Is Great, If You Dont Know How To Flash ROM's You Should Learn )
Anyway, I've Been Through PointUI2,Xperia Panels, SPB Shell And Im Bored Of Them.
Im Using The Android/Linux Too, Which Is Great But Its In Very Early Beta Stages, Id Like Something Fully Functional And New/Amazing.
Something Like 3D EyeTracking UI (Well It Would Be Very Far From It Considering It Isnt Out Yet, But You Get The Flow.)
Also, Please Dont Recommend TF3D, TF3D Is Dead
And If Anyone Could Find Me An Amazing Titanium Theme, That'd Be Great. I Like The Work All The People Put Into The Themes And They Look Great, Im Just Looking For Something A Bit More Simple, With That Extra Touch.
Sorry this is of no help to you at all, but thanks fo rpointing me in the direction of 3D Eyetracking UI

That TAT stuff (from the company that made the 3d eye tracking UI) appears to be not too different from flash animation and adobe after effects-type applications, both of which i'm quite good at (modest, i know) but i bet it costs a lot.
I also cant seem to figure out why, if its so good, we have yet to see a UI made with their apps. is there some catch im missing? i would contact them via email but they dont give one and i dont fancy giving them my home phone number, or calling a number in another continent.
You need to use
Homescreen plusplus
or

and make your own theme..

Just got my HTC Tilt 2 and need some help!

Okay so for Christmas I got the HTC Tilt 2 with WM6.5 on the AT&T network. Its a great phone but I want to make it better. Through some google searches and what not I found this site and knew i had to join anyway....
Okay so one think I am desperately looking for is a flash player, mainly so I can watch youtube videos. I tried Adobe Flash Lite but it didnt work and the youtube mobile app didn't work either. So anyway know of any good flash player?
Another thing is this is my first smart phone my last phone (some samsung thing) could barely call and text people so im still learning the ropes with this thing and have therefore never edited anything on my phone. So a basic description of like what exactly a ROM is and Flashing a ROM. Also is a skin for TF3D just a skin or is it like I guess what you call a ROM? Then the Radio I am almost sure when it says "Flash a Radio" its not talking about the FM AM kind is it?
Also I have seen some pretty sweet skins but I dont plan on changing my skin every week so I am looking for just an amazing skin! So if you know any sleek, modern, colorful, simplistic, clean skins a quick link would be great!
Bah! While I am asking all these questions can someone please explain why the HTC Tilt 2 (or any HTC phone for that matter) fall under the "Rhodium" category and what relation does it have to the phone.
Again just trying to familiarize myself with what I am doing before i do this so called "Flashing".
Also any basic info that may help a person like me.
Again thanks in advanced for the help looking forward to being more part of this community!
Congrats on getting the device. You'll either love it or hate it...
Re: Flash player
The new Pocket IE browser supports built in flash. I recall there's another browser that does as well, but I can't remember. Skyfire? Someone else should be able to come up with the name...
Re: definition of ROM and Radio
Suggest you to read about them in the wiki. ROM is your device's firmware. Radio is the software that controls your cellular reception and GPS.
Skin for TF3D does not equal ROM. Essentially it's a theme. Before installing themes, make sure the theme is made for your version of manila. But if it's a cab file, you can simply uninstall to reverse any changes.
Re: the name of your device
The Tilt2 is the same as HTC Touch Pro2. Rhodium is HTC's code name for this family of devices. The "Tilt" name is just AT&T's branding.

So, I got this phone back in September. This was also my first smartphone. I read and read through all the tutorials here on ROMs, radios, flashing, and registry tweaks. The answers to the majority of your questions are in the FAQs/XDA-Wiki.
HTC YouTube App: I think there's a fix available here on XDA. I think itt has something to do with editting the connection settings. You might want to search for that using the search function of the forum.
ROM (flashing): think of it as like upgrading your PC from XP to Vista or Vista to 7.
TF3D (aka Manila or Sense): a UI (user interface) it's sort of a skin on top of Windows Mobile. Since WM is old and appearance hasn't improved that much, HTC implemented this UI to cover up some flaws of WM.
Radio-ROM: No, that's not the FM Radio. It's a software thing that handles the phone capabilities of the phone (the Tilt2 is a PDA/phone).
(Changing) Themes: There's a lot of themes out there to suit our personalities! Go look! Besides, when you get addicted to flashing, you'll get used to changing things and setting things up over and over again!
Rhodium: (I just completed a Chemistry course; I never knew this was an element on the Periodic Table!) HTC code name of the Touch Pro2 and Tilt2.
Feel free to PM me if you need any help. Like I said, it's also my first smartphone, and I would have to say I learned a lot since I first got it (pretty recently). So I would know what you're experiencing right now.

Yes, Skyfire has full flash support and is very fast because everything goes through SkyfireLab servers. However, video playback quality will be horrible (especially YouTube!).
I just remembered, if you go to m.youtube.com in Opera Mobile Browser and you press on a video, the video will play in the HTC Video Player. So, it's not really playing in the browser; it's like you're downloading the video into your Tilt2.
Ah ok cool. Yea I have skyfire I forgot it did flash but the resolution is a bit fuzzy. Pretty sure I will love it just as soon as I figure out what in the world im doing! Since I love customizing and tweaking things which is the main reason I didnt go with an iPhone that and the full QWERTY keyboard.
I guess I shall read the wiki/faq
Welcome to forums
You had a great gift for Xmas!!
I assume you still have the stock ROM, which I personally think it´s crap...
I would recommend to install a cooked ROM from this great site!
Onalmost any cooked ROM you have the youtube app so you can see videos
Have a deep read on the Rhodium Wiki so you start to familiarize with all that you can do
Good luck and don´t forget to vote!
Yea love the phone but yes I still have the Stock ROM (hey I know what I am talking about now!) yes it is crap. Not liking the fact that it constantly stays at 74% RAM.
Oh you just reminded me abotu another question of mine.
How do I get rid of all the freakin trail ware that came pre-loaded on this phone! I think I read in multiple places most good ROMS should get rid of that.

LOL I think every ROM here gets rid of that crapware!
Ok good because it keeps me up at night just knowing that its on my phone >
Ok cool just read the Wiki found a list of ROMs that look great > just 2 possible more questions
1) Ok so it says I should back up my phone completely before flashing which makes sense. But to where? I have my conacts and stuff on Microsoft MyPhone but Im pretty sure my apps and everything else isnt on there. Do i Just copy all the phones files and paste them somewhere on my computer?
2) Just incase something goes horribly wrong is there a Hard Reset on the phone that No matter what the phone will go back to factory reset. Even after flashing?
There is a YouTube app included on the Tilt 2. It is hidden from the Start Menu by default. If you open File Manager and browse to the Windows directory, you will find YouTube there. Once you launch it for the first time, it should also be referenced in the Start Menu, or at least in the "All Programs" list option in the TF3D Programs tab. If not, you can easily COPY the youtube.lnk file from the Windows directory to Windows\Start Meny\Programs and it will show up.
The app is clean and tight, and supports the native controls of the phone (eg, the volume rocker controls volume).
I cant seem to find it I browsed the programs list and there was no YouTube Program unless its called something else.
Anyway as posted abotu still have 2 questions:

1. If you have the .cabs of your apps, save them onto your PC (I have a designated folder for all my cabs, worth over 400MB!). After you flash, you're going to have to re-install them (automatically or manually, depending on if you use Sashimi, Sprite, Seven, or UC_setup [UC is only possible if it is supported by the ROM]).
2. If you flashed, your stock ROM has been overwritten, so if you hard reset, it will flash to the factory defaults that is in the flashed ROM. To go back to stock, you will need to flash back to the stock ROM, which you should find in the link posted in the above post.
Oh ok thanks for all the answers appriciate it I think I might do it this weekend if i get the time.
First off, welcome.
Next before you do ANYTHING read then re-read any and all wiki's and tutorials on the Rhodium. Learn your device inside and out FIRST before attempting to make tweaks or rom changes. If you don't read then re-read, your Christmas present can become a pretty paperweight -aka- bricking your device.
pIE and Skyfire both have Flash capabilities.
The Rhodium IS cpabale of being used as a radio, but you need to install the right cab file...again read.
That being said, a radio usually refers to the part of the phone that receives a signal so you can use it as a phone. Don't mess with THAT radio until you have read and re-read the wiki's and tutorials.
Flashing a rom means to change your operating system to a "cooked" one...one made using a windows mobile base, but specially tweaked by someone here at xda. These cooked roms cannot be flashed without first unlocking your phone. Again READ or you can brick it. Also know that flashing a cooked rom has the potential to void any warranty you have...so back up your stock rom before attempting a rom flash. It is also good to have this back up in the event that you don't like a cooked rom you have installed.
There is a great thread that lists cab files to some really good applications, which will customize your device even more. You can also create your own ringtones, and tweak the device. Again, before any major installations or registry tweaks I strongly urge you to learn all you can first, by reading the wiki's and tutorials.
I have been with xda since my wizard came out a few years ago, and I have seen far too many eager "noobs" brick their devices.
I have only had my rhodium for a month. I am still learning my device. I still have a stock rom because I am not yet comfortable with my knowledge of the Rhodium. The stock rom blows by comparison to the cooked roms, but until I am comfortable with my device, I am happy to remain stock until I learn all I need to.
Once you learn your device, you will need to join Flashers Anonymous...because like most of us here, our phones become really fun toys with pretty much unlimited possiblities...so again, welcome...and read, read, read.
