Hi,
I'm running my desire with rooted stock rom by oclock (called 3'oclock over at modaco).
Also running a2sd with richardtrip ocv14 kernel, and radio is 32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11.
A lot of incoming calls are not getting through - sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. People are saying it goes to voicemail 2 or 3 times before it come through. I don't see missed calls on my phone when this happens.
This is with mobile internet set to off, so it isn't that.
Anyone else have this issue? And know how to fix?
Thanks.
Is it possible you could try flashing a differnet radio perhaps?
Are you on he boundary of your network's 3G coverage?
I find I often have to set 3G devices to 2G only in my house because the 3G coverage is marginal and the phones spend half their life jumping between HSPA and EDGE, and it often causes missed calls as you describe. Nothing exclusive to the Desire though, the only 3G device that never had a problem here on O2 was my old TyTN, and that was only because the radio on that was too rubbish to pick up a 3G signal at all here

It happens with my internet set to off though - haven't had mobile internet enabled all day just too see if it was this but it happens when the internet is off.
Your phone will still connect to 3G networks if the data is off. Try changing 'Network Mode' under 'Mobile Networks' to GSM only and see if that helps.

Will give it a go - hope not though cos i like using 3g for emails, surfing etc.
Will also try disabling the "enable always on mobile data" setting to see if that is doing it.
Thanks for the info.
I had exactly the same problem when I used the built in widget to turn OFF mobile data (I had a stock orange ROM in UK). I did this to save battery, but calls did exactly what you said. I now leave it on all the time (and actually battery has improved massively in my 4th week, dunno why, but I went 2 days without charge, and quite reasonable usage!)
Now I leave mobile ON all the time it works no problems, and haven't had the same problems since!

HTC Desire can only connects "G" instead of "H".. a problem with device?
Since the last few days, my Htc desire can only connects on GPRS aka "G" connections, can't no longer on "H" HSDPA 3G..
I thought this was the cell provider connection issue but, when I put my HTC HD2 next to it using exact same cell provider, the HD2 can still connect on "H" HSDPA..
I made sure the option of "connect thru GSM/WCDMA" is ticked, so my htc desire is set to connect not just gsm.
would this be a device problem on the Desire?
Cheers
I am seeing weird stuff with my desire as well. At first, when I got a data bundle woth Jimmobile (Belgium) I could only connect to the EDGE network. I didn't think much of it, because I thought that was a provider limitation. Then I just checked the use only WCDMA and it connected using HSDPA. I was surprised because when I switched it back to automatic, it chooses EDGE. I had this for a week or two. And now it suddenly grabs HSDPA all of a sudden and almost all the time.. I have decided to just roll with it. It doesn't make sense to me.. I doubt it will at any time.

Thanks for your input.. yes indeed.. weird..
Not sure if removing the battery and let the device off for a while then put the battery back n switch the device on will resolve the problem, but I will try that..
This weirdness, a nuisance coz Gprs is slow
Maybe take a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656192

My problem is that I'm almost nowhere getting any quality 3G/H signal, especially in buildings, where my old N73 got full bar 3G. I'm working on Gprs or Edge if lucky with the Desire. Very, Very disappointing to say at least. This has nothing to do with Wifi here.
Dont compare the "bars" ... they are just UI/graphics.
Check the speed and reliability.
What I noted ... when you activate mobile data (from OFF to ON), it will take some times (like 30 - 60 seconds) to connect. This may vary on different mobile operators.

My Desire can connect to H without any problem.
Perhaps wonky batch?
It can connect, when the signal is strong enough, like on the open. But thats way worse what my other Nokia 5230 can do with the same signal strength. It connects in the deepest and darkest hole.

I set it to WCDMA only. It got 3G 0-1 bar. No data transfer and some seconds later it showed a big fat X.

It seems to have got worse over the last few days. At times I need to make more than one attempt to dial out, the calls drops unexpectidely, and people who ring me sometimes get redirected to Voicemail even though my phone is on with good signal. Have phoned orange multiple times about it, and after diagnosing with them, still at a loss. Anyone else expereincing similar?

P.s. the phone is not rooted, however very recently I used ADB to install all apps to SD.
oh, the phone has also rebooted a few random times on it's own aswell over the last few days. I think it's all linked.
Have inserted the sim card into another phone. On my desire, while testing, out of 8 incoming calls, 2 went to Voicemail. On my other phone, out of 20 incoming calls, 0 went to voicemail. Seems that it's a fault with the phone and not Orange reception. Going to phone HTC.
Suggested I do a hard reset. I might aswell root my phone and install stock if that is the case.
Any suggestions before I waste a day?
All my previous devices, were on orange, the service was awful, texts coming hours and somtimes days late, calls going str8 to vm, slow data ect, when i got my desire i changed to tmob, and ive never looked back

Hi
I used to have an X10, that frequently put peoples calls direct to VM in full reception (even with a mate standing next to me calling it went to VM). Now i have the desire and still the same issues, I get random texts telling me I have missed calls when the phone never rang. So I'm not sure if its Orange or Android. I was previously on o2 and didn't have these issue
Update the radio part ?

If you are on GPRS (i.e. no 3G coverage at your location), and you are actively using the GPRS connection (including for background data), then it will block incoming calls as if the phone were in a call already. This is a limitation of GPRS*, and it is the same on all UK networks and all phones.
This doesn't happen with 3G/HSDPA, or if you are using Wi-Fi for your data.
I don't know if this is the OP's problem, because it shouldn't cause dropped calls once established (or affect outgoing calls, I think) but it is the effect behind what some of you are describing.
*technically, it doesn't happen with certain GPRS devices (class A?), but there are very few such phones, and there are certain network measures to avoid it, but no network uses them.
so if somebody could write an app that suspends data connection if on 2g and allows data for 3g only, then problem solved?? Obviously only for people who are not really bothered by loss of data sometimes.

I'm always on GPRS party because there's no 3G/HSDPA at home nor at where I work. So I've hard-set the phone to be GSM only and I've never missed a called so far. Even had calls come in mid facebook usage....
Edit; Tried it again now,
Box standard non-branded desire, Orange Pay As You Go.
a G icon to the left of my reception bars.
I was updating the weather widget both Up and Down arrows where lit up.
Rang from my office phone to my desire..No problems at all.......
my data connection is usually switched off (saves battery), so that isn't the cause,

Odd. Maybe Orange changed something - I've never tried with them. The network feature is called DTM, but I didn't think anyone had turned it on. I frequently miss calls on O2 because of this.
The Desire also appears to frequently lie and reports the wrong symbol much of the time - so at work with only GPRS (in the middle of nowhere and we have our own cell on our site), mine often says H for HSDPA, and yet the same problem occurs. I suppose it's possible that you're actually on EDGE.
There's a thread about it here: ht tp://androidforums.com/htc-desire/68995-not-receiving-calls-when-browsing-gprs.html
used to have this problem with my x10 on orange until i flashed a new rom and updated the baseband, hasn't dropped a call since....... the wife recently upgraded her phone to desire hd and she is now having the dropping calls/forwarding to vm problem. i reckon its got to be something wrong with the radio orange are using, get it flashed and see if it helps? that is my plan with the missus phone!
I had this happen with my phone on o2 on 3g I notice my signal bar wasn't high though an drops easily. One day i got loads of delayed msgs an calls going straight to vm. I switched my setting to use 2g only an now no problems.

That's the same work around i have been using. 2G also seems better for battery life, so now I prefer it over 3G.
OP - my partner has been experience EXACTLY the same issues as you with her AMOLED Desire.
To the point where we are possibly going to root it soon, in the hope that a new ROM/radio will resolve the issues. Not sure how viable this is though...
Hi,
I have some data connection problems since the first day i bought my DHD.
The phone reception signal bar are always changing even when i am not moving at all.
It can generally move from H to 3G a few times, then go to E and then G, in a few seconds.
it always moves, my internet connection is very slow.
It's as if the radio was always trying to renegociate the method of communication (GPRS, 3G, etc) with the operator's antenna
When i am in a phone call, i got disconnected sometimes or the sound stop during a few seconds (the time the radio switch from 3G/H to E/G i guess)
When i disable WCDMA from the settings i get a quite stable sound during my phones calls (maybe because the phone no more tries to negociate). But for Internet... it's just slow.
I tried a few ROMs, and their respectives radio rom (the one with the IRL branded in the ROM) i sometimes thought it was better but always it's still too unuseable.
I tried my SIM card in an iphone 3GS and i am usually in Edge (sometimes 3G) but when its 3G i can surf quickly during hours (if i don't move). This is not the case with the DHD.
btw i am on the french carrier SFR
If any of u had any clues i would really appreciate your help.
Thanks you
what rom are you using and what radio and ril................... now what radio are you on now
OP already stated he tried numerous ROMS and their cooresponding radios. Sounds like the signal is that degraded that any radio/ril combination will not help.
Thanks for your replies.
As said i tried many ones with their respective recommanded radio.
I am actually trying Radio_12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19_M with Android Revolution HD 4G_6.1.1 with no sense script.
Are there tests i could do to identify if its a hardware problem (like standing in front of an antenna and running some special tool maybe)
Btw, i also tried :
-RCMix3D_Runny_v1.3 but does work with internet pass through (wich is really important since i can't use internet from my phone carrier...)
-niarkMIUI-3.9.1
-LeeDrOiD_HD_V4.0.0-SE-3.0-BETA with Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2
-cm_ace_full-203 with my stock radio ROM
-virtuous_unity-v2.37.0 with i don't remember wich one...
P.S : i would be Glad to test any ROM / Radio combinaison you would suggest me.
Thanks by advance for your attention
if you tried all those roms and diffident radios seems like its more like a hardware or provider issue does it happen off different towers or maybe you can go to one of the stores and try the phone at the store with yours at the same time?
Thank for the advice indeed i need to try this.
Do you know what i need to revert back for the tech not to tell the waranty is over since i have flashed my phone ?
Does i need to reflash the recovery etc? is there some tutorial in this subject because if i go to the store with my custom rom i guess i won't get too much help :/
Don't even take out your phone, your going to say your just looking, don't show anyone your phone, they won't even know what to look for, just test your phone to the one at the store, make sure apn's match. But if you return your phone you'll need to ruu back to stock. You can search easy s-on

What happens if you manually select 3G only, or 2G only from the settings menu? Does it just lose signal, or stays strong?
Hi
If i select 3G only
I first get no reception (as if when switching from 2G to 3G the radio had to restart)
Then the 3G signal appear strong, decrease slowly in less than 30 seconds, and after all, it seems quite stable.
The bandwidth is good i am downloading fastly
(i am commenting in real time)
Still no deconnection.
I will try it during the whole day and tell how it is behaving.
umm during a few seconds, there were no indicator (no 3G or H), just 3 bars.
It then restarted in H with 1 bar (i am not moving at all)
What will happen if i have no 3G in my area ? I won't be able to receve a phone call ?
Thanks

If you force it to 3G only, and you move out of 3G area, then you should either get a no signal indicator, or if you have roaming enabled, you would get the roaming indicator. I'm curious now because as you said you aren't moving, and it's still changing. That shouldn't happen. Hmmm
Hi. I have the volume bug and not sure if this is related but i've noticed that I can hear interference during voice calls very faintly in the background. I'm on Vodafone and have only noticed this at home where I only get 2g coverage. I have WiFi on but dont know if thay makes a difference.
Anyone else hearing anything during calls? It's the classic cellular noises a bit like the built in radiation ringtone.
If you use wifi at home for data connection you could try the following thing.
2G gives trouble as you know...
In the phone application type *#*#4636#*#* touch phone information, set it to WCDMA only and see what happens and if it gets better with calls, maybe you lose the complete data connection and you have to put it back on where it was, I disconnects de the radio for a couple of seconds when it reconnects to the provider )
This forces not to use 2G networks, so there is no interference of this source.
Maybe it helps? it's just a thought

This will not fix anything especially as he specifically stated that he only gets 2G coverage at home
also, as I have already pointed out in another thread, that option does not stay persistent (at least in my experience)

It doesn't stick.
Try it yourself.
1. Go to the phone application
2. Hit *#*#4636#*#*
3. Select Phone Information
4. Scroll down until you find Set preferred network type
5. Change it to WDCDMA only (or indeed anything other than GSM/CDMA Auto PRL)
6. Now reboot your phone
It doesn't stay persistent.

But you don't make phonecalls over 2G are you, if you're on 900Mhz provider this will use gsm signal to make calls isn't it?

you are incorrect - if your phone is in 2G mode (either due to forcing it into 2G mode via the settings option, or by being in a non-3G coverage area) all communications are done over 2G. This includes SMS, cellular calls, and mobile data access.
Ok, did not know this, and wanted to know.
Is this the case everywhere or a standard in mobile communications technology?
So no chance that GSM signal is stil there and works if you don't get 2G data connection?
Did not see my GSM signal drop out when 2G was available.

If you can only receive 2G connection in your coverage area, you will not be able to make calls over 3G.
Hey so has anyone else noticed this issue? As I mentioned, it's very very faint - as in you have to be in an otherwise silent room to notice. And it occurs when I have 3G too i've noticed today.
Some more detail:
The noise doesn't start as soon as the phone connects - usually a few seconds afterwards and it actually continues for a couple of seconds after i've hung up (which I've noticed if I put the phone straight back up to my ear).
Would someone else mind doing a test call in a very quiet place and letting me know?
Hi guys sorry to bump this but quite concerned that it's only my phone this is happening to. If someone wouldn't mind just listening carefully during a call (maybe to your voicemail to avoid the weirdness!) in a quiet room to let me know if they can hear interference that would be great.
So this problem frustrated me so much that I got the phone exchanged. Guess what though - same problem.
Surely someone else has noticed this - if you're in a quiet place it's both pretty loud and very distracting.
As I originally explained - after a few seconds of any call, I get a very short mute (we're talking microseconds) followed by the kind of background buzzing noise you get when you put a phone near a speaker.
Could it be down to a faulty batch?
I have a LG G4 H815 Eu on EE, under "Network Mode" it is generally set to 2G/3G/4G Auto, on a call it goes to 3G often 2G, when it drops to 2G I cannot then access the internet at the same time.
I've taken to leaving the setting on 3G only, which works fine and allows both calls and data at the same time, but obviously missing out on 4G.
My only options are 2G/3G/4G Auto..... 2G/3G....... and 3G only
What I really want are 3G/4G, is there any way to get this, I'm without root as of now.
Thanks
Gosh. Please educate yourself about cell networks. Your phone has to drop to 3G when making a call (yet) . There is hardly any 4G network capable of transmitting a call. Yes, the invented, released, published and implemented a cellular standard WITHOUT the possibility to make phone calls. You can eavesdrop on 4G so perfectly it makes the NSA guys jerk off, you can not make a phone call. Isn't it great how the needs of the customers are met? [emoji35]
When you only have 2G then your connection is simply so bad that you just won't have enough bandwidth to make a call and surf at the same time. (How the hell do you do that?)
Your phone should however go back to 4G when the call has ended and 4G is available.

I don't think you read my post correctly.
I can have default 2G/3G/4G Auto but when on a call and it sometimes drops to 2G, data dies so I have to end call to use data.
I've now set it to 3G only and for the last few days it works fine on a call and data at the same time if needed, but obviously no 4G
Only other option is 2G/3G which is useless as 2G is where the problem lies.
I want a 3G/4G option, is this possible?
Are you in weak coverage areas? Your phone should only be dropping if you have weak 3G.

That's the thing, if I set it to Auto it frequently drops to 2G.
Since I've left it solely on 3G the signal hasn't dropped once even using it in the same places when on Auto it dropped to 2G.
I would like a 3G/4G option, any ideas how to get one? Thanks

No need to ask again, I've just explained when i lock it to 3G it's perfect, why it drops to 2G when on Auto is anyone's guess
