and thought you guys might want to know that it is PRETTY DAMN GREAT, especially for bike riders like me !
It's almost "magical" in the way it works. The small end of the neck-band contains a vibration-sensitive mike that transforms your LARYNX vibrations into voice. No air-mike. And as a consequence, NO BACKGROUND NOISE, and no need to have it oriented towards your mouth !
And I'm *REALLY* amazed at how well it works.
Just made extensive testing, and the "pros" for the SNeck are:
- sound quality is *awesome* in work-type environments. My correspondants actually told me they were amazed at the clarity and absence of any noise on the line BEFORE I got the chance to tell them I used this. By far the BEST BT "headset" (which it ain't really) I ave ever had, and I've had top-notch stuff;
- sound quality is simply *flabbergasting* when riding a bike. At 60 mph (100 km/h), two of my correspondants didn't believe me when I told them I was riding, for they could hear only ME. In fact, it was the same as when at work, as stated above. At 90 mph (150 km/h), I was still completly understandable, there was just some "background hum". It is to note that the SNeck was NOT protected, and "full-face" in the wind.
The "cons" for the SNeck:
- build quality isn't near as good as sound quality. It doesn't feel cheap, but it doesn't feel like 150 € Nokia headsets, for instance. But it costs only 50 €, and they are VERY MUCH worth the price (at least in France );
- for 45 mph (75 km/h) and higher speed bike use, "in-hear" silicon buds have to be added to the SNeck earphone, because if your correspondant hears you loud and clear, You won't hear HIM / HER at higher speeds. Using an in-ear silicon bud makes it very usable up until 120 mp (200 km/h) - I didn't test any faster;
- not really a "con", but the answer button is a bit small for gloved-hands operations, and needs a little bit of training. A shame, they could have made it bigger pretty easily, as the BT head is not small itself;
- it's a bit strange-looking, but can be much more easily concealed than much smaller regular BT headsets.
All in all, one of the finest accessories I bought for my Athena, especially since I'm very often on my bike and can now have REALLY NORMAL conversations, without yelling or anything.

Wow, that is very cool! Would you happen to know if it's available in the States? This sounds like a much more affordable solution than the in-helmet solutions I've seen. For one thing, they require wearing a helmet!

Don't really know. I *do* know it is also sold by the two following brands:
- Alan;
- Midland
under the reference Alan (or Midland) BT Sport.
Yes, it IS much more affordable than in-helmet solutions and, for having had one of those, it is MUCH better sound-quality-wise.
The only thing it lacks compared to much more expensive BT in-helmet equipment is the intercom functionality. Which you can "circumvent" by simply calling your passenger on the phone...
I can't stress enough how amazingly good the sound-quality is for correspondants even when you're on your wheels... It's better at 80 mph than many BT headsets I've had, when they were used in my office ! I really didn't expect such results.
I do believe that RueDuCommerce.fr ships internationnally, by the way.

And another pretty cool thing: it is compatible with all Jabra accessories, like chargers, etc.

Wow, this would make the phone's voice quality unbeatable! I can imagine how useful this is in noisy factories, construction sites, noisy bars, discos. The advantage of this over the over bluetooth phone is phenomena. No air mike! I like that. Thanks for this nice information.

Sorry I just fall of my chair... you mean you listen to music played by one devise and then you receive a call by another or it was just paired simultaneously?
I'm buying it! It would be great also with stereo bluetooth but in this world you can't have it all...

lol What I have tried, exactly:
- paired with all three;
- set it as a headset on first phone, received call: ok:
- same thing with second, same thing with third: ok.
It was paired with all three and kept settings for all three. When it was set as a headset with the Athena, and the wizard received a call, a popup on the wiz' asked if I wanted to use it, "yes", and it worked fine.
So I don't know about simultaneous use on many, non WinMo devices, but what's 100% sure is that it can be paired with at least 3 phones and keep the pairing settings and be switched between phones, at worst setting it as a headset manually on the device you want to use it.

Thanks for your input man! I already spend some time trying to find it on the net... in the worse case scenario I'll ride to France to get it!

Actually, I have a Jabra JX10 which is an awesome headset: smallish, stylish, excellent sound quality, both from earpiece and mike.
But I'm seriously thinking about eBaying it and keeping the SNeck only. It is very stylish if only because it is different, sound quality's better than the Jabra...

You know something? Since you mention Ebay... You should seriously consider ebaying some of these little goodies... I'm aware of Alan and Midland you mention but they come out twice the price and it's still for France only... I prefer to give you something extra and buy it through Ebay from you... Just a thought... Maybe others like this idea also... I would defiantly buy 2 of these

Jawbone 2

So I just got a jawbone 2 headset the other day. I love it and the sound is great but the ear bud doesn't stay in so well and starts to hurt after about a hour or so of use. I found website that sells some but they are $60 for the earbud which is insane. I saw that some people were able to use a gel from another headset. Anyone know if there are some cheap gel pieces or a way to use another gel?

Well after some extended use it my ear starts to hurt. I was using a plantronics before with a gel ear piece and it was amazingly comfortable. I could wear it all day and not even notice it. I want to get a gel ear piece like that for the jawbone.

Jawbone2 eargels
I use the Jabra mini eargels with my jawbone 2. The snap in to place like they were designed for it. I had to superglue them onto the Jawbone 1.
The allow me to pop it in my ear without loops, it stays in securely, and slightly increases volume.

I wanted to buy Jawbone 2 but I really need your feedback about it as in my research though many websites I found nothing but confusingly Contradicted opinions about it. especially about its sound quality!!
What do you advice me should I go with it or a you have a better choice?

If I can jump in an answer your question, here's my two cents.
As an owner of the original Jawbone I was very much looking forward to the Jawbone 2. Upon buying the Jawbone 2 i started to notice that I wasn't as happy with it, and it seemed to not be as functional for a couple reasons.
1.) FIT: The earbuds and ear loops on the Jawbone 2 do not do as good of a job at holding the headset in contact with your cheek and ear. There have been many times where I was moving around and felt the headset swing away from my cheek and nearly fall off. If you were a previous Jawbone owner, the loops from the original Jawbone can be made to fit the Jawbone 2, and seem to improve things, but they detract from it's smaller size and profile.
2.) COMFORT: Although smaller, I too find that the Jawbone 2 is less comfortable to wear for prolonged periods than its predecessor. I can wear my original Jawbone for a whole day with nearly no discomfort, but can only wear the Jawbone 2 for a few hours before needing to give my ear a rest.
3.) AUDIO: I find that the Jawbone 2 is more likely to encounter crackling and garble than the original. The signal on the original seems a little stronger. My biggest complaint is that the audio and noise cancellation on the Jawbone 2 seems to be worse. The have been many times when using it (in situations where I have comfortably used my original Jawbone) that people will either tell me that they cannot hear me, or that they hear distracting whooshing noise, almost like the sound of waves on a beach, which is distracting and makes them enjoy listening to me over the headset less. When driving using the Original, I have had people on the other end be oblivious to the fact that I AM driving. Much less with the Jawbone 2. Maybe the new Noise Assassin is more aggressive than the Previous Noise Shield was, and causes the whooshing noise, maybe it doesn't work as well... Who knows.
To make sure that it wasn't buyer's remose kicking in or nostalgia tinting my memory of how well the original Jawbone functioned, I have gone back to the original, and after 2 weeks, I must say I am much happier with the original Jawbone than with the Jawbone 2.
Now, so that I am not completely slagging on the Jawbone 2, here's what I really like about it that I wish the Original could match:
-Jawbone 2 charges insanely quickly! From zero to full in about 45 mins. Compare that to the 3-4 hours to fully charge the original.
-Jawbone 2 has a much nicer look, and is alot less visually obtrusive
-Jawbone 2 has a great magnetic charging plug that really attaches nicely.
-Jawbone 2 has some great bluetooth functions that the original lacked like the ability to redial the last call. The controls are quite a bit more sensitive and overall I prefer that (except when trying to hold the headset tighter to my face so someone can hear me, only to accidentally hang up on them 'cause the buttons are sensitive)
Anyway, I hope this is helpful to someone. Either headset works well, but IMHO, I think the original Jawbone is better... For me at least.

Having gone through a couple of btooth devices I have to say that the jawbone 1 has the best noise cancellation and clarity. However, i am not in accordance with the gentleman who said that the jawbone was comfortable. I believe the Jawbone 1 is almost unwearable, It slips off my ear and never stays where it should. I also tried the Jabra gummy ear adapters but they detracted from the sound quality. I am eager to try the Jawbone 2 and will report my findings this week. Possibly tomorrow. But I still say that the Jawbone 1 is the most uncomfortable bt device I have used. If not for its superior sound quality and noise cancellation I would use my motorola.

Everyone has different fit and desire for headset features. Why not buy one at a store with a liberal return policy and give it a shot? Worst you lose is a bit of time in the return line!

If I may help, I searched for a long time to find a BT headset to wear at work. I am a service manager, and I wear it all day long. Sometimes I'm in noisy areas with engines running, sometimes in a quiet office. The gel buds do a great job holding it in comfortably. I also carry my work phone and personal phone with me.
I finally found the Jabra BT530. Active noise cancellation... (I'm understandable while standing six feet from some very large compressors - amazing) Links to two phones simultaneously. Receives custom ringtones - in my case they are my own voice notes saying "Mark is calling" or other names. That way I don't have to look at the phone. When I get a call on either phone, it switches to that phone, unless already in a call.
Well worth the money, very comfortable, full of features. What more do you want? Ok, one drawback... it would not connect to a two or three year old phone, the Nokia 6102 or 6103. Maybe when connecting to two phones, it locks out the backwards compatibility, only working on BT2.0 spec. I don't know the specifics of why.

stock headphones not that bad?

Usually headphones from the box are absolute rubbish (Apple i'm looking at you) but I've found the Galaxy Note 2 internationals Samsung headphones to be pretty good! Been using them at the gym and walking to uni and they sounds good if not better than my SoundMagic headphones (about £30). Or maybe i have just got used to how they sound. Anyone else still using the headphones that come with the phone? or am i completely deluded?

Im using the Brainwavz M5 but I have to agree that the sound quality on the stock IEM is pretty good even compared to theh M5.

I don't use stock a lot for listening to music, but they're the only stock headphones I've used yet that's decent for that. Surprisingly good for stock headphones - I guess people just assume that "it's stock so it must be crap". Seriously underrated IMO.

The Verizon version of the Note 2 does not include headphones. However, the ones that came with the Galaxy Nexus are outstanding.

The stock headphones are good as long as you stay around 40-50% volume, at highs audio distorts pretty badly. A decent IEM imo, nowhere near good though. Especially if your ear is used with mid range Shure or Senn, or Sony's.
Also the overall sound signature is below average, bloated/muddy bass kills it all!

I'm glad to hear the stock headphones are decent, I just got my note 2 today. I went to look for cases and the selection for this phone is awful at best buy.

Ebay or Amazon is always a good place to start for cases. I got a pretty sleek case for £4 on ebay!

The stock headphones are fine for me. As long as they fit my ears, stay in and make noise, I'm straight.
Where I'm serious about my audio is in my truck.

Where's a good place to buy the stock headset from? I know amazon has them but heard they sell fakes also.

I've been using the Samsung stock phones for the last 2 days, until I had time to solder my abused Sennheiser's (a $50 model) plug.
It was a hurting and offensive experience: distorted highs, undefined and fake lows, and overall noisy and harsh. Couldn't bare listening to music, only podcasts that are low quality to begin with.
Yes, I am sensitive, and I'd like to keep it that way, for me it's a good thing. . I'm not a crazy audiophile, I just love music and I love my ears.
If your expectations are low, then one can say they're not end-of-the-world horrible like those that I received with my SansaClip+ player for example, but then again, Even as backup - meh...
It's kinda hard to compare super cheap audio gear. Yes, they are. Samsung are not known to waste money. The Samsung logo isn't even something to be reckoned with, when audio quality is concerned. Any headphones that you receive as an extra with a gadget, are always different kinds of crappy (Sony the exception, maybe a few others.) It's specs - freq. response, distortion %, noise floor...
If you want good audio, I highly recommend trying some mid to hi-end earphones. The difference will be educational, and apparent to any ear.
It doesn't necessarily mean more spending, but often times it does. Good hardware and R&D cost money. No need to go crazy either, even entry level stuff from a reputable audio manufacturer will be far better the the stock Samsung.
OK, some positives : they're reasonably comfortable; the white is cool; I love the tiny plug; the cable untangles very easily and is pretty sturdy; the buttons are functional.

Whoa, don't even begin to compare this with mid-high end earphones. We're talking purely in comparison with OTHER stock headsets, and this is the best I've used tbh. Also I hope it's EHS64 BTW, mine is.

You're right, as far as this category is concerned, then yes. For people who never upgrade their phones or don't fuss too much about it, yeah, they're getting a better deal.
Like I said, not "end of the world horrible", just regular terribleness . Headphones that are retailed for $5 will probably be less worse than $2 ones (the difference in manufacturing cost would be what - $1.75?...)
Anyway, in the last few years, all those cheap stock accessories are generally getting better.
I still think that one should invest in his own hearing system's comfort and health more than the cost of a pack of cigarettes.

I think you have really high standards if you think they're "terrible" - because even other audiophiles seem to think they're decent. And price is not necessarily proportionate to quality, as I personally think my Koss KSC75 are superior to some much expensive beats dre crap out there. Anywho, to each their own and all that

I agree with Aby_148 somewhat, as I said previously it's decent, as long as you stay on mid volume. On highs it indeed is terrible. I don't know what's the price of the stock headset, as if mine gets damaged or lost I will never ever bother to make a purchase of the same. But you don't need to go high or mid range, even low range Sony MH1C sounds way better than this, and that's just 40$. So yeah it might be better than other stock headphones, but that's doesn't mean this is good. Samsung and a good IEM can't go together.

Haven't tried MH1C, but MH750 is rated lower than EHS64 by the guy in the thread over there. Obviously MH1 is much better without a doubt, and it costs more too, I'd assume. That said, EHS64 holding up pretty well in the comparison there, and I'd concur having tried earpods before. It's really decent.

I wish I could contribute my opinion about Note 2 stock headphones, BUT since I got my phone from Verizon - headphones were not included I do have a few premium bluetooth headphones, but sometime you do want something similar to stock wired headphones (no worry if battery is charged, or how much time you have before it runs out while you are in the middle of watching a movie ) with volume control, play/pause, and ability to pick up a call. Something small and simple. I guess that was an intention of stock headphones.
Here is the one I just got as a replacement. I learned my lesson and not dealing with ebay sellers anymore because their quality control is awful and often it feels like 50/50 chance you get something working. I had success in the past with DX.com, found their customer support very responsive, so ordered this pair of Samsung replacement Note 2 headphones for $4 plus change (shipped): http://dx.com/p/samsung-in-ear-earp...xy-note-2-white-3-5mm-plug-120cm-cable-170924
Ok, I'm not naive and realize these are not OEM Samsung for $4+ shipped. But what's important, I got these and they work perfectly! No issues controlling volume up/down, play/pause works as expected if you either listening to music or playing YT video or playing a movie. It picks up a call and hangs up when you done, with the same in-line remote control button. That's all that matters. The build is pretty solid, not some flimsy piece of plastic. The sound quality? Well, I'm sure the sound doesn't match original headphones. As a matter of fact, I have S4 headphones next to me for a little side-by-side sound comparison, and those sounds more clear. But both have the same issue of distortion at higher volume level, and absolute lack of bass.
I'm not even going to compare these to any premium headphones, it makes no sense. Sure you can pay $30, $50, $100 and more for good in-ear headphones, but these are just $4.50, purchases from a place I trust, and they do the job!

Review of UE Boom wireless speaker w/pics!!!

I have been around the block testing and reviewing various Android gadgets and accessories. Honestly, there is not much that makes go Wow! The concept of external compact bluetooth speaker is not new, and some of you might be familiar with another similar product which has been dominating this category. I think introduction of UE Boom is going to change this!!! I want to mention this ahead of time, we are talking about Premium Product at a Premium Price. Yes, it will not be everyone's cup of tea in terms of being able to justify $199. But if you are willing to invest money into a high quality product with sound and sex appeal of EU Boom - I guarantee you will get every penny worth.
I have to first start with a package of this speaker, something that became a trend of premium priced products. You might be looking for a minute or two at this black cylinder before you realize it opens in the middle, flips open revealing the speaker itself and accessories in the separate compartments. Just the presentation of this package by itself is super cool and makes a very nice storage box for it. So beside the speaker you get this yellowish-greenish neon color travel wall adapter (rated at 2A) and flat noodle usb to micro-usb cable. In the middle of this cylinder box is the jewel itself, the UE Boom. First impression once you pick it up is the weight of the speaker which is going to tip scale at 536g (1lb 3oz). Yes, we are talking about a cool little cylinder that fits comfortable in your hand and weight over a pound. So what does the weight means? It means quality driver components packed inside of this external speaker unit. With measurement of 180mm x 65mm, it stands 7" tall with 2.5" diameter. The speaker grill goes all the way around, interrupted by a rubber strip with two big "+" and "-" touch controls (for volume up/down). The grill itself is made of some dense interweaving material, described as acoustic skin with plasma coating for water and stain resistance. I have seen YT demo of someone pouring water over it while playing the music, and it didn't even skip the beat. The speaker is intended for indoor/outdoor use, and with water resistance keeping it close to a pool will not be a problem. The speaker itself can be positioned vertically or horizontally, whatever is your preference. The rubber control strip should prevent it from rolling.
Beside volume up/down control, which also could be used simultaneously for UE Boom to announce it's battery capacity percentage, one side of the end cap has a power and bluetooth pair button, and the other side has 3.5mm auxiliary input, micro-usb charging cable, and a detachable loop/tab that will enable your clipping Boom to your backpack or maybe hanging it down from some hook. Speaking of charging, at full charge the speaker is rated for 15 hours of use!!! Once you power it up, you have a pleasant drum tone and it goes into a pair mode (the first time use). Within seconds you are paired up and ready to use it. At that point, better sit down and hit play. This is the most impressive sound I ever heard coming out of such a small speaker system. It fills up the room or any outdoor area with full deep non-distorted sound even at highest volume level. The sound is very crisp and clear, very loud (without distortion as I mentioned), and has enough of bass tone suitable for bigger speaker. Of course, don't expect deep bass of a subwoofer, but for this size it was very impressive. The sound radiates 360 degrees, so no need to turn it or to position it in certain direction. Apparently there is a way you can use 2 EU Boom from the same paired up source to extend this sound to a wider stereo spectrum. For that, you need to use a free app downloaded from Google Play. The app itself is very simple and self explanatory. What is super impressive is when you start it - it goes through a palette of available Boom colors (the speaker comes in different skins) and picks the right one you have. In there you have an option to run double pair up, Setting, and General on-line help with "getting to know" info. In Setting you have a choice to rename your UE Boom, obtain the battery level charge (also you can do that by holding + and - together), alert language, EQ setting (currently only 3 available), enabling alert sound, and also app and fw versions.
For audio playback it supports A2DP bt audio profile, in addition to direct 3.5mm cable input, and it can also pickup calls working as a speaker phone. It's minimalistic design didn't include call pick up button, which would have been a nice feature. Also, very common to other premium bt speakers - is lack of any audio playback controls. If you want to pause the sound, you have to go back to remote use with a phone. It's not a show stopper since I was able to use my portable external bluetooth receiver unit connected to 3.5mm port of UE Boom and paired up instead of the speaker itself. That allowed me to play/pause and skip the track. Also today after playing with MetaWatch smart watch - I also discovered that I can control phone audio right from my watch without even a need for bt remote receiver. Also another comment, for such a price I was surprised they didn't include 3.5mm audio cable piece. Although not intended for most of the uses, I think it would have been a nice accessory to include.
But in general all I can say is the second you hear the full loud sound of this speaker, your jaw drops. Yes, its an expensive accessory and will not be everyone's cup of tea because of the price. I also hope that after awhile (since it was just introduced), the price will drop making it more affordable. But even at $199 - you are paying for a high quality design and premium quality top notch sound, something you would expect from Ultimate Ears! My recommendation - if you can afford it, get it! Just in time for the summer, for your outdoor party - you will not be disappointed!. And with 2 year warranty, you know UE truly believes in it's quality.

How does it sound compared to the Big Jambox. I love my BJB but would love something to use near the pool.

I knew this question would come up I don't have any Jawbone products, but have done a lot of search and reading on the net and watched a number of YT reviews, everybody confirms that UE Boom blows jawbone out of the water, not to mention that you can't even keep jawbone anywhere near the water This speaker definitely has Ultimate Ears sound quality.

Thanks. The lack of waterproofness(word?) is my biggest gripe with the BJB. Might have to get one cor the outside. I'mm very happy with my JamBox sound quality.

Well, waterproof and water resistant are two different things. I'm sure if you drop Boom into a pool of water where its going to be submerged for awhile - it will damage it. But if you are outside and get splattered by water, Boom can take it like a champ. I have two little kids and outside they constantly run around with water guns or splatter in our above the ground pool. I wouldn't have to worry about speaker getting wet in this situation or of it starts raining before I get a chance to bring it inside.
I was trying to get a review sample from JB, but their replies take forever and I'm still waiting to hear back from them on confirmation. In a meantime, I can only judge the comparison by listening to other people reviews (lots of the professional reviews are on-line now with a recent introduction of Boom).

Thanks a lot for the info. I have 2 boys myself. They would almost rather run around squirting me and mom than swim in the pool. :laugh:

Wow, I find it hard to believe the this UE Boom will "blow Jawbone out of the water"!! It may be very similar in sound quality and loudness to the original Jawbone Jambox, because the Boom and OG Jambox are similar in size. The Big Jambox is about twice as big as the Boom. I could be totally wrong though, and this Boom may destroy the Big Jambox. I have a Big Jambox and absolutely LOVE IT!! I am very impressed with the sound quality and how loud this speaker gets! Hopefully an XDA member who has the Big Jambox will get a Boom and let us know how the 2 compare.
Either way, OP, thanks for sharing the info with us! If Best Buy does carry these in the future then I'll probably go ahead buy one myself! Not sure that I'll keep it, but that way I can at least compare the Boom and Big Jambox side by side at my house. I'll let you all know if I get a Boom. If anyone here has them both, please let us know how the 2 compare.

Awesome review as always Vectron. I've been looking for a bluetooth portable speaker and I was about 99% sold on the jbl flip. For the money ($99) most reviews say it blows away most other comparable devices which cost 2 and 3 times as much. Now I'll have to look into this product to see if it's worth the extra $.

Shoot, I might end up going to Verizon store myself just to pick up Jawbone for comparison this weekend. Now, I'm really curious myself. I read reviews from zdnet and cnet and other places and they're showing arsenal of their portable speakers in the background saying this one sounds the best.
I can only judge relative to what I hear, not as a/b comparison. I'm also thinking that UE guys had to think hard to come up with a price point to justify their advantage over the competition which cost less. Also, competition is a little dated now. This unit has 15hr battery, and water splatter protection, and covers a range of 50 feet. But I'm surprised there is no Call Button. I really wish instead of talking battery percentage they would implement a programmable feature for "+" and "-" buttons pushed together to either mute the sound if music is playing or pickup the call when it's incoming. It should be handled through BT protocol and everything is under app control to assign different functionality - so why not? I will make sure to suggest it to them with my feedback.
But other then that, I'm very impressed!!!

All - I have the Big Jambox and compared it side by side with the UE Boom.
My perspective - while for its size the UE Boom sounded very good, the BJB was clearly better sounding and larger. Obviously the amount of portability you want/need can impact your decision as on this point they are very different, but if the BJB's form factor works for you and you are basing the decision primarily on sound, I think you will find the BJB to be a better choice,

Best buy does carry this product now. Just found it there by surprise this weekend. They didn't have a display model out or anything so I almost missed it. So far the sound is great and it does get really loud for a small speaker. I can compare the sound to a Bose SoundLink and it is comparable to it IMO. I don't know about the Jawbone Big Jambox so can't give any input on that one.

Awesome! Thank you for your input and comparison!! That's exactly what I had expected, as I found it VERY hard to believe that the Boom was louder an sounded better (much less that it could "blow the Big Jambox out of the water", lol!). I figured that the Boom was more like the original Jawbone Jambox, and not the Jawbone Big Jambox! The original Jambox and the Boom are very similar in size and price. Now that you have compared the two, I won't have to purchase the Boom just to compare it to the Big Jambox! Again, thank you very much for your comparison!!
The Big Jambox isn't too large for me to make the portability impractical. On the contrary actually. I often take my Big Jambox outside with me in the evenings. I spend a good part of my time at home sitting outside. The weather is nice and I don't smoke inside the house, so I like to sit outside and smoke while I drink beer. I use the Big Jambox for listening to music and for playing games on my phone or tablet. I even use it for a speaker phone occasionally and love that it's capable of that! Callers in the other end never know I'm not talking directly in to the phone unless I tell them I'm using my Big Jambox, and then they are shocked at how clear the sound quality is.

True, I can't comment on comparison to Big JamBox. But I absolutely love UE Boom. I had it setup this weekend: phone at home, Boom on a hook hanging of outside, and I'm in our above-the-ground pool with MetaWatch under water controlling music. Sounds is not just loud, but also very rich and deep. Started to drizzle, we got out of the pool, and only later I realized while I was bringing stuff into the house - the speaker was still hanging on the hook. I'm still hoping to get around to check out Jambox, but I'm afraid my opinion might be on a biased side For sure, Big Jambox sounds like it will be louder because of the size of the speaker/driver/amp so if that's your priority, then its a perfect choice! For something very small and compact (Boom is small round cylinder, smaller than original jambox) and rugged with splash protection when you go to the beach, I think Boom is a great choice.
BUT still, I wish either Boom or Jambox would have play/pause/skip track controls. Why wouldn't they add it to these bt speakers?!? The protocol supports it. It's just a matter of 3 extra buttons. I have no idea why it's not part of the design...

I happen to like the look and form factor of the BJB better, and for use around the yard, etc. I think its a better choice.

Haven't messed with many of the bigger bt units, but I can imagine this sounds pretty good. I have the small UE boombox and it's pretty impressive for it's size/price. Super crisp and clear even when played really loud, but to be honest, and I'm embarrassed to admit it, the Beats Pill is probably the best portable bt speaker I've heard. And this is coming from a Beats headphones hater. It sounds much better than the boombox and jambox imo, and when I played with the bjb, aside from the volume, I felt like the Pill sounded better. Flame away lol

Never tried the Pill. I read a bunch of mixed reviews on it, including a couple that cited frequent bluetooth connection issues, so based on all the research I knocked them off my list.
I tried the new Bose, the Big Jambox, the UE Boom and the JBL Charge. The JBL Charge and UE Boom were both nice form factors and decent sound and volume. The Bose and BJB both (in my opinion) clearly sound better. I was mixed between the two...both sound good but very different sounds. Ultimately I liked the form factor, longer battery and ability for web updates on the BJB.
In the end I think it comes down to price (although the gap isnt that big) and how much portability you need. I think Bose and BJB are very portable - certainly around the house and yard, throw in a car, throw in a suitcase. But if you want something really portable that you can put in a knapsack, briefcase, etc. and carry around all day, then you are likely to be better off with the JBL or UE.

Btw, I have been using our Boom for 2 weeks since the last charge. Not everyday or hours in a row, but I probably accumulated close to 3-4 hours. The battery is still at 90%. Probably rounded off since it reports in increments of 10, but still pretty good.
I wish I can find some time to compare it to other speakers. Thus can't chime into discussion above, but I do really appreciate all the replies!!!
Also, hope that maybe after initial introduction and considering you can pair up two Boom into a stereo config - they will offer some discount if you buy a pair of these.
Regarding last comment about traveling, Boom is very compact and heavy duty built. Definitely no worries throwing it in a packed suitcase.

Review of Xiaomi Pistons 2 headphones with Android in-line remote w/lots of pics!!!

Once again I'm speechless, sitting down with a pair of $24.90 headphones that look and sound better than a number of other popular brand name IEMs that cost 4x-5x that much. How is it possible? For a lot of us who live in US and EU, there is a whole world of great headphone brands from Asia we never even heard of. After reading and participating in a number of discussions on head-fi, I decided to look into much talked about Xiaomi Pistons currently on their 2nd generation release.
I know the price of under $25 sounds ridiculous for anything of a high quality, but you have to trust me - these headphones are simply amazing! I know a lot of you see the name and the model and quickly get on Google to search for the best deals. Here is a thing, when it comes to these particular in-ear headphones, any search will yield a lot of results with fake models. And because those often cost almost as much or a few dollars less than original, it's really hard to find a trusted seller of Pistons. That is a reason I'm providing you Amazon link of a trusted seller who has real Pistons v2 in stock. Be very careful when placing an order even with amazon where you have multiple sellers, and make sure its with Zhengnan'shop. Apparently there used to be other sellers under the same listing which turned out to be fake ones. The one I received came from Zhengnan'shop, I confirmed it to be the real deal!
OK, since I got that explanation out of the way, let's take a closer look at the headphones itself. The small carton box they arrived in turned out to be a one piece design which unfolded with instructions and other info. Unfortunately, everything was in Chinese, but I can certainly appreciate the originality of this design. Once you take the actual box out, you are presented with a gorgeous view of golden in-ear headphones inside of jewelry-like box. When you lift the cover, the first thing you notice is... a smell. I know what you might think, probably a smell of toxic plastic? Absolutely not, you are getting a smell of a chocolate. Yes, I did say "chocolate". There is a lot of thought that went into design of these headphones and their packaging, including one of the most original presentation with a piece of molded rubber insert that houses earphones, inline remote, a plug, a cord which gets wrapped around, and also made out of material with a sweet smell of chocolate. Underneath on the bottom of the box you will find 3 bonus sets of eartips and a really cool shirt clip (a very original design). Once you take the headphones out, you can't help but notice how super lightweight these are and how detailed is their design. Everything from headphone housing to in-line remote (which also serves as cable y-splitter) and 3.5mm connector is made out of lightweight aluminum alloy material with a gold finish and laser etched circular lines. Everything feels solid, durable, and very premium quality. The cord itself is tangle free, and the portion between splitter-remote and 3.5mm plug has a threaded coating which almost looks like a shoelace. The part of the cable from the splitter-remote up to headphones has a durable rubbery coating attached to earpieces with a decent strain relief.
There is no doubt, Pistons have a very luxurious look and feel, but how about the sound quality? Once you put these in your ears, get ready for a very pleasant surprise!!! Featuring a patented beryllium diaphragm, I found these dynamic drivers to cover quite an extended frequency range. The first thing you will notice a rich deep bass which extends quite nicely down to a powerful sub-bass layer while still having a well controlled punchy mid-bass. The selection of a proper eartip size to create the best seal with your earcanal will play a significant role in the amount of bass you will hear. With my selection of medium eartips, I found the bass quantity to be definitely boosted. Not quite at basshead level, but enough to feel it. At the other side of the spectrum, treble was very clear and smooth, hardly any hint of sibilance. Mids were detailed, a bit recessed, but still leveled enough to enjoy vocals. Overall the sound was bright and balanced with a little bit of v-shaped eq, a nice low end enhancement, and in general very airy and smooth. Of course, as great as they sound, it will not replace $500 multi-driver IEMs with a fuller body sound and better separation, but the fact I'm even bringing up a comparison of $25 to $500 in-ear headphones can tell you how highly I think of these. The soundstage was above average thanks to semi-open design with a port on the back of these headphones. Despite that, they actually had a decent passive noise isolation, but as I mentioned above a good seal with a proper eartip is very important to achieve that.
Usually I don't spend too much time talking about in-line remote, but in case of Pistons it deserves a special mentioning. Every pair of headphones I reviewed so far with in-line remote never had a set of volume controls that works with Android phones. Typically you have multi-function button which is universal between android and apple devices, mic for taking calls, and up/down volume for iPhones. Well, Xiaomi is actually a very well known Chinese android smartphone maker, and that is why their headphones were designed specifically for android phones. Though I only tested it with my Galaxy Note 2, the volume control worked perfectly!!!!! Furthermore, multi-function button worked great for play/pause/call with a single click, skip next with a double click, and skip prev with a triple click, and long-press for Google Now. No additional software was necessary, everything worked by default. Also, phone calls were loud and clear.
Overall, I found Xiaomi Pistons 2 to be one of the best value headphones I have tested in a very long time!!! The combination of a sexy design, durable construction, amazing sound quality with a great bass, and full remote control compatibility with android phones makes this a MUST have accessory which gets my high recommendation.

Apparently these Pistons 2 just won a prestigious IF 2014 design award, and even going to be re-leased in a limited edition white box. For $25 with their sound quality and full android controls, it's a no-brainer.

Thanks for letting us know about these headphones. Just received them yesterday and the sound is fantastic. These are going to be my go to headphones for now. Now mind you I am no music guru but for me these are crisp, and super clear through the entire spectrum. I have had Sony's, V-moda, Panasonic, Skull Candy's (all which are good) but there is just something about these that seem a little better than the others I have had, plus the Android controls just make it that much better.
And the price just puts the icing on the cake.

The sound is VERY good, better than some $150 headphones I tested. Definitely highly recommend! Just make sure you get a real thing, too make fakes are floating around.

May I ask about the length of the wire between the controller and the in-ear headphone? Because I've seen in some reviews that people say the distance is long, thus it is hard to either reach for the controller, or talk in a call while walking or standing outside

It's about 10.5 inches. There is no problem to reach the buttons, it's actually very convenient since the in-line remote is also y-splitter for the wires. But sometime when I make a call the mic is too far away and I have to lift it up to speak. For those occasions the included metal shirt clip is a lifesaver Just attach it to the cable underneath of the remote and place it closer to your face. Problem solved! This headphone has the highest price/performance ratio at the current moment from everything I have tested. For $25 it's an amazing value, great sound quality, sexy design, and full android integration including volume up/down.

You mean volume control, right? The multifunction middle button should work for play/pause/call. I have no idea why Moto had to be different with volume control

Why don't you contact Zhengnan's shop on Amazon (US) and asked them about it?

Just ordered a pair, and awaiting shipment!

Right. the middle button works fine. On my wife's HTC DNA, the volume controls function as the next/previous track. I assume it's software dependent.

Not 100% sure it will resolve your problem, but still worth a shot!

yes. in the advanced options, it only recognizes the button press for the center button.
