I've had the previous betas of Swype and theres an occasional force close in portrait mode, the real issues occur with the keyboard open because the swype dictionary gets enabled and it's extremely buggy. SO there's some success some annoyances.
I haven't tried these themed ones yet, simply because the sharing site is blocked at work and the apk won't fully dl on my phone.

I used that version and it's quite fugly. There a way to skin it?
Is this the version of Swype from the original 2.1 slide rom or is it some dodgy low-res knockoff?

Its the same res, but blue instead of black. Also, the swype that comes with the slide is 1.29.x and the one I downloaded and am running is 1.60.x, and it runs much better.

weird. Is there a special way to install swype or something? I tried installing swype with astro, but swype is not showing up as an input method...
when I pressed launch (via app manager) it says activity not found: com.swype.android.inputmethod
Lol, I was just asking about this in my question thread. It might not be installing because it needs to changed from a .zip to .apk. that's just what was suggested to me. Haven't tried yet

lol nvm I just found out >_>
go setting->language & keyboard settings-> enable swype and you're good to go
speaking of which, is there a swype keyboard of similar version yet with a different skin? or does the later versions make a significant improvement? The blue one looks kinda eh on the screen =\
The keyboard in 1.60 is bigger more like the size htc_ime

Both of the APKs that were linked say that they're expired is there another version I can use?
can be loaded onto any rom.
Be careful. If I'm not mistaken xda treats posting swype as warez since it is licensed software. Not sure how this works since the G2 is licensed to have swype. I would like to have swype on the sense Rom as well...
I want swype on betterkeyboard. Give me the best of both worlds.
Believe it or not, that's one of the main reasons I don't want to fully switch to Sense. I'm absolutely loving Swype.

I've been on sense since evil dropped his flashable .zip. so far its amazing, but losing swype and battery drains are bothering me. Can't wait till 6.1!! Hopefully rc1 comes out this week.
Is Sense incompatible with Swype? If I loaded the Sense ROM, can I drop the Swype apk that came with the G2 originally back on top of it? It was one of the first things I dumped when perm root was released, knowing I'd want it on other ROMs.

I have been trying to get it to work, but it just force closes. The g2 is licensed to have swype, but apparently the DZ is not. I was able to load a working version found online, but once opened it says trial has ended please upgrade...

I actually have a working version of swype that will work on Sense. Well it worked on my Nexus Ones Sense.
I know the rules are pretty strict here regarding giving out the APK but come on people our devices are licensed with it so we already basically bought a copy of the software when we bought the phone >.>
Swype is not allowed to be posted onto XDA.....if you need to re-install it sign up on their site for the installer.
Hi!
I have a quite annoying problem after 2.2 update. The keyboard keep changing back to Swype after some time after I've changed to another one.
Anyone have the same problem?
Haven't found anything about it when I've been searching.
Thanks.
even if ur keyboard changes to swype , your normal typing works ...so why to worry???
Because I'm writing with åäö and swype dosen'r have them without long pressing a and o. But I found why, the taskmanger had the keyboard app on auto kill.
are you using swype beta???

No, the one that Defy came with. However it was the Task Manger in 2.2 that ended the keyboard task for the keyboard I used. So everything is fine.
Thanks anyway.
Go to beta.swype.com and register.
Follow the instructions and install swype beta. Its really good.
This may solve your problem...

Are you with T-mobile? If you are, let RMK know and he will modify the installer to include swype. This is because it is only T-mobile that holds a license to bundle swype.

Yeah, I would, except I am not permitted to speak to another developer in this elite club. Apparently intelligence is measured in post numbers, ergo, I am an idiot. Too bad, the only reason I joined XDA was to participate in the development forums.

Swype:
I had issues at first with Swype but was able to go to the official Swype homepage and download the Swype Installer app (swypeinstaller.apk) which in turn allowed me to install Swype itself. I strongly encourage those of you living without Swype to go snag your free copy today. The following is the process from cradle to grave:
1) Go to beta(dot)swype(dot)com
2) Register with Swype Website
3a) Register with Swype Beta
3b) Retrieve swype beta activation key from email
4) Run swypeinstaller.apk
5) Download/Install Swype via Swype-Installer
Note: if you have problems with swype force closing (like I did when I first installed) just uninstall Swype (do not uninstall swypeinstaller), reboot, and re-do Step 4 then 5. Voila, G-Lite with flawless Swype.
If this helped you, give me a 'thanks'

I just flashed Calkulin new ICS rom and for some reason the htc keyboard crashing after typing a few letters. Ive searched this forum and found no answer. I PM calkulin about this problem and of course no reply. Can someone suggest a keyboard that just as good as this one or at least a fix to keep it from crashing out.
I like this keyboard because of the dedicated typing area it gives you when in portrait mode.
Same

May I suggest Perfect Keyboard Free or the AI type keyboard. They are both good keyboards to me. I like Perfect Keyboard Free a little better. They are highly configurable and feel like the htc keyboard that I had on my EVO. I am currently using Perfect Keyboard on FC07 without a problem. It is fast, responsive, and does what I want it to do.

I've seen a couple posts with this issue, as well as it happened to me. For some reason the ics roms do not like the HTC ime keyboard. Perfect keyboard would be the way to go

Go keyboard is the best in my opinion. You can customize theme and everything
Sent from my iPhone killer.
If you use ICS Rom, there are lots of chances that you may see the weird stop errors from many places something like system apps, user apps and even from the network communications.
For many cases, if it started failing then it will continue to fail until you remove the failing apps. Or sometimes, rebooting the phone resolve the issue but it could happen again in any moment.
So, best way to resolve the issue in ICS Rom would be reinstalling the failing app.
In my opinion, it seems like there're some bad process or service running that makes other applications force-stopped. Once the application force stopped, usually the system is getting warm and hot (meaning it's continuously retrying to launch the application or doing some post processing).
If the re-installing the application does not resolve the issue, then the best way would be 'waiting' until stable ICS Rom comes out in the market.
For me, lots of application re-installed because of force stop error -
Youtube(stock), Waze, Xing player, n7player, battery monitor, email (stock), facebook(stock), Root Toolbox( seems like compatibility issue with ICS)...
I had the problem of the keyboard popping up even though I repeatedly selected SlideIt. I finally just took it out by way of TB
I use htcime_mod on my non-sense (lol at the pun) roms as well. I found that disabling the Prediction/Spell Correction/Word Completion under the Text Input option keeps the keyboard from crashing. This may suck for those of you who rely on auto-correction and suggestions, but i personally have a vendetta against t9 and i only use this keyboard for the ease of symbols access.
I proffer that the issue is thus dependent of the way the IME accesses the dictionary to correct/suggest words. Maybe the libraries are renamed/moved, and it is trying to access an invalid path? Just a theory.
Above all, remember that YMMV because I am using an HTC Vision (T-mobile G2) running CM9 pre-alpha 2.5 unofficial ICS build.
Hope this helps,
Rec

I had issues on Calk's so I downloaded Goodness and extracted the HTC IME MOD apk from it and pushed it to system/app. After setting the permissions and restarting I haven't had a problem since. Give it a shot and see.
