Help needed creating boot animation - Desire General

Hi,
I have been playing around with the apple pissing and apple bashing boot screens.
As they were not in the order i wanted i decided to try and make my own bootanimation.zip. To do this i downloaded the .gif files and converted them to .png.
I then put these into folders called "part0" and "part1" and zipped it up with desc.txt which looks like this
Code:
480 800 30
p 1 0 part0
p 0 0 part1
However when I flashed it by putting it on my SD and selecting the flash zip option in recovery nothing changed.
I think this is because my .png files are animated. Does anyone know how to convert them to normal .png files with an image for each frame?
Or anything else i could have done wrong?
I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623960
I have included the files as well.
Thanks

Update
Iv been playing around a bit more and have now managed to get the animated .gif into individual .png frames.
Iv renamed them, put them into part0 & part1 and created my desc.txt
I then zipped it into bootanimation .zip.
I booted into recovery and did
Code:
adb shell mount /system
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media
adb reboot
When it rebooted the startup animation was replaced by a black screen.
Can anyone help me, as obviously other desire users have managed to create custom boot animations.
Iv attached my bootanimation.zip file.
Thanks

Right its definitely something to do with unzipping/zipping.
I know this because i downloaded one of the animations from the themes and apps section, unzipped it and zipped it again. This have me a black screen like whats happening with mine.
What procedure/program are other people following/using to create the bootanimation.zip?
Thanks

the ZIP needs to have no compression

you must choose STORE method when you are compressing it....and how did you mnaage to export the gif into png ????

I have been compressing it using the STORE method with Z-zip.
I can't remember exactly what i used to extract the frames as the .exe is on my work computer and im off today. I can post it up tomorrow for you.
Iv uploaded a screenshot showing the size before and after zipping.
Thanks for all your help

same problem here. I think the whole thing is somehow corrupted because the normal unmodified bootanimation doesnt show part 1 just the apple bashing.
agreed, pieing before bashing.
i've been playing with this too, but the result is black screen..

[Q] Need help with BIOS Boot Animation

So I have been trying to get a BIOS boot animation together for the Evo based off of frysee's animations.
I have everything made but my phone keeps skipping the animation and going strait to the home screen.
*I have attached a copy of my zip*
I used RickBaller's Jurassic park style animation as a basis for folder structure and desc.txt file, which is really frustrating me because if i use "pushboot" with his it will show up but if i use it with mine it wont.
Used photoshop to edit images
All images saved as .png files with no interlacing
All sizes are 480x800
.zip made with store compression
Is there a maximum size that an image can be?
Looking for some advice as to where I have messed things up.
The frame numbers have to be five characters long, e.g. 00001 instead of 001. Also make sure you don't edit the desc.txt file with notepad since that will screw things up.

[Q] Flashing a Bootscreen?

ok so i was trying to learn how to edit the boot screen i pulled the files then repushed them back on there but i was wondering if there was a file size limit or picture limit im trying to do a scene from 300 and its not showing up it just shows a black screen when booting but it boots fine.
it comes out at about 500+ pngs. but is there another program i can use to convert the video to png or is there a better guide on how to do this...
I guess no one wants to help me lol

Way to go for first spam post.
Anyways, I personally don't know, but if you look around themes and apps, you may find an answer there.
I don't know if there is a file size limit. But every phone I have had is very picky about image size, when I make one I will pull the orig and make a slight change like add.my name,if that works I then further modify making sure not to change the canvas size

Bootanimation.zips follow a specific pattern.
Two folders, one is the initial sequence and the other is the loop. A desc.txt file which tells the system what folders to play, how many times to repeat it, and the delay (in seconds) from the end of a folder to the start of the other or itself (loop folder for example).
The two folders can usually be named what you want but a common practice is to name them part0 and part1 where part0 is the initial sequence and part1 is the loop.
The images can be pngs or jpegs. The size of the images are usually 800x480 and the bit depth is usually automatic depending on the content of the image.
Last, when zipping the bootanimation you MUST zip it with the "store" or no compression option. This is usually where most people make their mistake.

[Q] Splash and boot animation; im not sure if i did it right...

Can someone test these? I wasnt sure how or which format the boot animations were supposed to be; the first set is in full resolution (1900 by 1080 methinks) I also compiled a GIF, and a smaller set of images.
I used one of the many wonderful splash converter/genertor programs to make the IMG.
There are also two free wallpapers that I made (altair+tron to give you an idea)
I've tried just about every tutorial for flashing both a boot animation or a splash screen and I cant get either to work. I'm running unrevoked, my hboot is newer than 2.x, I tried formatting my (2gb; dont have another one) micro sd to fat32, I AM rooted (s-off) I have sdk and adb and the drivers all installed correctly. I'm zipping uncompressed with 7zip, (aes-256), editing text files with notepad(but i tried with and without editing), pushed the files into media, local, resources, and one more(but im to lazy to look up where) all with no results except having a blank black boot screen. I have tried using terminal emulator, file explorer, and many other things.(that's all I can pull off the top of my head right now) Any help is greatly appreciated!
As of yet I have no idea if any of these work(well except the wallpapers ), because none of the other boot animations OR splash screens work either... Maybe tomorrow ill try flashing a new rom and see if that fixes it. If they DONT work, please help me fix them/let me know what I did wrong. (because I have 3 more i'd like to finish making) I've spent the last 4 days trying to make this work and I'm pretty frustrated right now...
Well there are no files to test, and if you used unrevoked, you have to create your splash screen slightly different, and needs to be converted from a .nbg extension, not the .rgb656 extension.

Again not attached. You have to wait til the uploader reaches 100% in the popup window or it won't attach.
Bootanimations:
sense > /system/customize/resource
AOSP > /system/media
I was waiting for it to load, went back to edit the post, and forgot to wait for it to finish... Then I couldn't edit/attach it for 5 minutes... But ya, it's attached now.. Sorry for the wait.
Hello? anyone? It's attached now...
taking a look.....
only the splash and wallpapers will work. the boots are all formatted incorrectly and it needs to be a series of .png's not one .gif.

Thanks for looking. I wasn't sure because I've read on more than one thread that people had used Gif's. Im pretty sure at least two of the boots were png series.. How should I format them?
any1 here?

this was sent to me by another member here. your desc should read 480 800
each frame of vid needs to be 480x800 png(yes you have to have it frame by frame)
hope this helps some

After creating your bootanimation -- You need to make sure that a couple things have been done correctly for the bootanimation to 1) Work and 2) Be able to be flashed via recovery.
1) To make the bootanimation work
a. Make sure that after creating the animation itself that the .zip you create has NO compression -- (e.g You use "store" mode, instead of "normal" -- both 7zip/Winrar have this feature)
b. Make sure the desc.txt file is properly formatted and has the correct folder names inside the file. Also make sure you have a carriage return (press enter) at the VERY last line of your desc.txt file
c) Make sure the .png filenames are somewhat sequential and organized. (e.g. BootUp001, BootUp002, BootUp003, etc)
2a) To make a flashable package
a. First create a folder to house the bootanimation and you'll also need to explicitly define the folder names that you want the animation to be pushed to. (e.g -- Inside lets say the "MyBootanimation" folder -- you should have three folders; they're names respectively are:: system/customize/resource
Inside the resource folder is where your newly created bootanimation.zip will go.
2b) To make the package flashable and work in recovery; you'll need a update-script file which should be in a folder called:: META-INF (ALL CAPS); inside that folder should reside, three more folders:: com/google/android/. The update-script file will go INSIDE the android folder.
So, to get this to work, you'll open the "MyBootanimation folder and inside it should reside to folders (system (and it's subfolders); which houses the bootanimation and META-INF (and it's subfolders); which houses the update-script). You need to select both files and zip them up in NORMAL mode, not "store" mode. This will create your new package, which you then need to sign via whatever method you use. I use command line and I'd like not to explain that if I don't have to.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i have been doing further reasearch and experimentation... at the moment im waiting for my phone to boot and test the animation.(it failed) I found scripts for gimp that auto crop(with w/h and x-y offsets)/resize in batch so that can save lots of time there.
I'll follow your instructions and see how that works. Should I make the files inside system? (customize/resource) I'm currently running Kings UNleashed GB R3 NEON if that changes anything... i have HBOOT 2.10, and no ENG extended fastboot commands as far as I'm aware. Amon Ra supersonic-v2.3 recovery
If im successful in making the signed working file then ill post it up here =]
Okay, so I was unsuccessful... It installs properly, but the animation doesnt play; it black-screens, then finishes booting... help? I'll attach the whole signed zip so you have exactly what i have.
bootanimation.zip
EDIT: seem to be having a problem uploading the file i have it working for(system\customize\resource) will try to upload tomorrow
try this dropbox http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9628638/tron1.zip
let me know if this works for you
I installed it and same thing; black screen.. you said you got it working? what did you do to make it work?
try this one http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9628638/tron2.zip
i renamed all the png(heard that it had to have at least 5 characters and ran those through png optimizer) renamed the folders and changed the desc to match.
i think your bootanimation maybe in (system\media)
try it and let me know

Rebooting now... and.... waiting................... and not working =[
thanks a lot for trying... You got it working on your phone? any1 else want to give it a try?
EDIT: would having a bootanimation in both customize/resource and System/media cause a conflict and so make neither work? I actually found customize/resource and put the file in there, but it doesn't work either... maybe if i remove it then the one in system/media can work...
EDIT AGAIN: apparently it has no effect =[
Yes plays a little slow, running myn's 2.2. Do you know where the bootanimation is on that rom that might help

Nexus 7 Custom Boot animation

Hi guys I made my own little boot animation .gif for my nexus 7 and would like to implement it but I know it must be converted into a .zip file if anyone could guide me into making my .gif into a boot animation to replace my current nexus's thanks
anyone?
First you need to convert the gif into a PNG sequence.
Each of the PNG files needs to be in numerical order. The first PNG file being 1 and the second being 2 and so on.
Then put all the images in a folder called part0
Then create a new text file called "desc" and it should look like this..
Code:
800 1280 30
p 20 0 part0
800=Screen width
1280=Screen height
30= frames per second that the animation will play at
20= The number of times "part0" will be repeated
Then download 7-zip. Highlight the part0 folder and the desc file and then right click and 7zip>Add to archive
Make sure the compression level is Store and rename it to bootanimation.zip
Then using ES FileExplorer you can replace the existing bootanimation.zip with the one you made.
Thanks will try it in the meantime posting what I made

Bootanimation.zip MLA-L03 Nova Plus

HI... While beeing under root on my mla-l03,i couldnt play in /root with phh's supersu....
So i re flashed the original boot.img then installed latest Magisk root https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
with this rooting method, ive been able to go and modify some files in /root of the device
til now ive been able to change bootSound.ogg but have a problem with bootanimation.zip.
In /cust_spec/media ...I made a backup of bootanimation.zip and then copied the folder and puttted it in download so i can transfer it on my PC.
Once on my pc,opened the zip file with 7zip, opened PART1 folder and transfered the images in a folder on desktop...Ive opened the images with THEGIMP and modified 7 of the 14 jpg images.....then put back images in zip aaaaaaaaand on the phone where it belongs...
thing is..... Boot does work but cxant see my modded images.....theres 7 images missing in the last part of animation
ive tried put the same modded animation in /product/etc/media but,no success
maybe theres another media folder and didnt find it yet
did someone managed to change his boot animation on his nova ?
EDIT...
Ive succeded changing BOOTANIMATION.ZIP on my device...ive changed the zip file in CUST_SPEC and its working...
https://youtu.be/PPC27UX7fzk
EDIT# 2
I have lost bootSound.ogg with new bootanimation.zip... now searching WHY... Sound at startup also have dissappeared in in Settings/Sound
The original images in Huawei bootanimation.zip are in jpg format...and i have bootSound.ogg...
in the new bootanimation, images are in png format...
could that be the reason why i have no bootsound when booting ?
Boot animation V2 https://youtu.be/PuzEbh_RTAQ
Finally fixed the bootSound.ogg
its something in the desc.file... Here's my setup
1080 1920 10
p 1 0 part0 10 1
p 1 0 part1 10
p 0 10 part2
