Increasing space on internal memory. - Desire General

I am currently running the R3 rom with Apps2sd+. At the moment i have around 80mb free. I wanted to increase the memory so uninstalled a 5mb app but when i go to settings, the internal memory was still the same, it did not increase.
Why is this? I thought if i got rid of a 5mb app, it should increase the memory by 5mb.

i'm pretty sure you have to restart the phone for it to be updated, has happened to me some times

Ive also tried that but did not increase.

Anyone else got any ideas?

You are using Apps2sd. Apps are stored on your sd card so uninstalling will not change the internal storage amount. 80mb is loads - why do you need 5mb more?

Is there a minimum internal memory needed on the desire so that it does not affect the phones performance?

I've been down to 15mb and not noticed any performance hit.

Free up internal memory, the logic solution doesn't works

Hi
I using leedroid 2.2a on my desire an about 3 months. I also use quick system info to see how much memory left and it's write that there is 20Mb left of internal memory. So, I removed nfs shift (39Mb ) just to see if it helps but still after removing this game and also other apps, I don't see any improve in internal memory.
Must to say that at past month I did few times restore using clockworkmod but all the times I restored a rom that I backed up a couple of days before.
What your suggestions guys for this behavior? Doesn't android free ups internal memory after deleting apps that were installed?
Thank you for helping.

[Q] Available internal memory for applications?

Hi all,
my wife owns a Wildfire S since a couple of days.
But I am quite disappointed about the amount of available memory (internal storage) for applications.
She does not have a lot of applications installed (about 5), but the available is only about 93 MB.
When going to "Settings - Applications - Manage Applications" it shows me at the bottom of the screen "Internal Storage: 57MB used, 93MB free".
The phone specs state RAM 512 MB and Internal Storage also 512MB. Why is it showing only 140MB in reality?
Can someone explain this, please?
Is this normal?
How much available storage do you guys have on yours, please?
(Btw, also via "Settings - Storage" it shows "92,07MB as available space" on internal storage)
The phone is a T-Mobile branded one from The Netherlands.
Thanks in advance.
Mine got 512MB internal storage as well, but i think that the OS uses some space that don't show up. Have you tried moving apps to the SD card?
Moving apps to SD indeed does free up some memory, however...
I have only installed a few apps (less then 10mb all together), therefore I am quite disappointed with the little available memory.
The phone is a dutch Tmobile version. I can see there are a few Tmobile apps built-in into the rom, but surely they can't take up that much space, could it? (Adding up used + available internal storage only totals about 150mb, which is far from the 512mb as in the specs?)

Same issue! I got mine yesterday and after barely installing anything. Im low on internal memory and it adds up to 140mb not 512.
Btw android, sense and other HTC things take up that memory. It is only 512mb when there is nothing on the internal memory.
Same issue here. Quite a disappointment and no way to really solve it.
Hello all, search 'darktremor app2sd' in this xda website

Im amazed at how little memory this phone has. After 2 days and 5 apps its basically completely out of space. I liked the smaller form factor but this is ridiculous.
U can move all of ur apps to SD if u want...and it doesn't even require rooting...i was also having problem with this whole low internal memory thing..but i found this...
its quiet simple really...it does help a little...with this u can use "move to SD card" option in application settings for nearly all the apps..
Hope this helps..
PS : u can use an app called android tool box..its really useful..it has many options like app manager, cache cleaner, file explorer, start up manager and many more..it is quiet handy when u'r low on Ram or space..

[Q] Moving apps

Hi,
I wonder where is the truth about moving apps to SD card. I have HTC Desire which has really low space for apps. I used to use Darktremor A2SD script with CM7 but according to some users this can really slow down my phone while opening apps when I have slow SD card (I have 4class Kingston) and it probably does, becuase I experienced this issue very often. It was horrible and I decided to use different partition table. Now I have dalvik cache on internal storage.
Today I read that the more space I have on my internal storage, the faster the device is. The question is: Is this true? And is true that apps moved to SD (not using A2SD script) are slower?
On a very slow (cheap class 2) it can be true.
I have class 6 and not noticed slowdowns.
Theoretically - the internal NAND is faster than the SD Card, but if the ROM is set up correctly, it is unnoticeable.

So where is the problem? When I used A2SD script I experienct heavy lags while opening apps (Handcent, gallery, etc.) sometimes 2-5 seconds. It was really bothering. Full wipe helped everytime but after two days lags were back.
Now I am trying have dalvik on internal to see how it behaves.
I believe that class4 is not so slow and I also read that Kingston cards are sometimes much faster in tests, sometimes similar to other class6 SDs.
AFAIK, it depends on the ROM, too. For example I had no lags with AOSP ROMs, just Sense ones.

Ok. And do you think that the more free space on internal I have the more speed I can get while using the apps?

You might. Again i Think it is affected by many factors. For instance, when I was using Gingervillain 2.7 the phone was fast even with 20 MB left on internal - then I moved internal & stuff to the SD and had around 96 MB free - but did not notice that it was running faster.
Try using s2e app from market, I'm using that and it works very well

[Q] memory (RAM) size

Hi,
obvious question (but didn't find an answer): Accroding to http://www.htc.com/www/smartphones/htc-desire-z/#specs it should have 512MB RAM right? Why the actual amount of memory is significantly lower? Free in terminal shows only 386048000 bytes which less than 370MiB. Why? Free should show actuall memory on which the underlining linux is running, right? So there shouldn't be any other hidden memory.
Thanks.

Free memory is how much memory isn't being used by the system, files, apps, etc., that being what is available to write to; total memory is the combination of used and free memory.

I had the same question too
The answer is that part of the memory is used by the sistem itself.
Yeah, part of the memory is reserved for the radio, and probably some other system stuff too. So when Android boots up it only sees around 370MB or so. This is the same on both the G2 and DZ.
Sent from my Desire Z running CM7.
Other stuff.. and something like "Graphics Card" i think.
Hm, hm ..... so 512MB is just marketing. 1GB phone has effectively almost 3x more memory Desire Z is awesome phone (it has HW keyboard), but the memory is a huge disappointment, what would cost extra 512MB these days? Almost nothing ..... grrrrr

A 1GB device would show about 874988KB in RAM. Or about 854MB.

RAM concern

Im coing from the Dinc, and I plan to get this phone, but im worried it will have the sam problem as the dinc.. The low storage issues, where I am constantly clearing cache and what not. Will this likely be a problem or have they improved on the software to prevent this from happening ?

how can RAM become low storage issue? you cannot put files on RAM (Random Access Memory). just make sure there's only small apps running background to save RAM usage. too many running applications will make the phone sluggish since it's only have 512RAM and single processor to do the job done.
HTC One V comes with 4Gb of eMMC (not the faster NAND) storage, while you can only use 900Mb of it to install apps and save files. but you could easily add a 32Gb class 10 microSD card to increase storage and never have to worry low storage issue again.
