Ok i've just thought of two things that are getting kinda irritating on my M5000.
Firstly the fact that no programs seem to un-install, Every time i try to remove any progs i get an error telling me that the uninstall was unsucsessful and asking if i wish to remove it fromt the list of installed progs.
Anyone else have this problem? is there anything we can do about it or is it a case of manually removing everything?
the other thing is the hotmail email account, i dont ever use hotmail and it annoys me having to scroll through the extra account in messaging. is there a way to remove the hotmail account?
Regarding your uninstalling problem. If it happens on all programs you try to uninstall, then your uninstaller is corrupted. If it only happens on one program, then it's probably just that the uninstall information of that program is corrupted. You may want to try other utilities to do the uninstalling (eg. SKTools).
About the hotmail, well, that's easy. Go to Messaging -> Tools -> Options, tap and hold on Hotmail, then Delete.
Have you deleted some files from "windows\appmgr" ??
I've not deleted or changed any files at all. i've had this prob with all three handsets i've had and never been able to remove programs. even since brand new. programs include sbp pocket plus sbp gprs, tom tom, code north irc, resco explorer.
i've just done a hard reset but not installed any exrom cab's so in the next few days i might figure out whats wrong.
i'm sure i've tried to delete the hotmail account before iirc the delete option was greyed out. again i'll have a look when i'm home.
FIRST: If the files have today plug-ins, you first need to disable those plug-ins prior to uninstalling.
SECOND: Have you ever tried changing your bootsplash screen using EnableRapi.CAB? If your answer is YES, then that is the culprit.
To bypass these problems, try to install the same file again, your Universal will show a window stating you need to uninstall the program 1st, press YES, then your Universal will also ask you later where to install it. You can cancel the install if all you want is REMOVE the application completely, or install the UPDATED application if that was what your initial intention.

Hi,
I have a problem.
My contacts are not updating to Exchange.
When I add a new contact via the phone (selecting the exchange account) it does not get updated to the exchange contacts. Any ideas what I would be doing wrong?
My Sync is on, background data is on.
System specs:
I am running MIUI Rom (v22) but had the same problem with opendesire before I switched. Now using Cyanogen, ROM version does not matter
Email.apk version: 2.2
Contacts version: 2.2
Now Solved:
Possible Reason: Changed ROMs too many times
Solution requirements: Exchange 2007 with Owa and internet explorer then you can do it yourself else you need to get your IT guy to do this.
Solution:
a. Go to OWA (in IE) and delete all instances of your android device from there under the mobile devices tab.
b. remove your exchange account from phone and add it again.
To test:
c. Add new contact,
d. disable sync and re-enable for exchange account from accounts screen.
repeat step D if contact doesn't get updated.
Any ideas guys???
Use the search ... there must be an topic with the same problem ... there is an link to an stock e-mail app whitch should work.
hi philj,
i only asked the question after i scoured the forum and google for about 2 hrs
I'll try and replace the email.apk and see if that helps
So I changed Roms, went to Cyanogen mod new RC.
My google account syncs two way perfectly not exchange.
Using touchdown doesn't help because you can't add contacts to it with either CAM card or from the accounts application.
I realize there have been many threads on this, so my apologies for starting a new one. But many that I read were either outdated, or just the same info that wouldn't work for me.
I have a rooted Kindle fire, Market is installed, GMail, etc. All working gloriously. Also, I can get the Calendar app to install. However, I can't get it to sync.
I have followed instructions very closely and even tried a couple of different variations(I have a backup image that I use to restore after each one). I have made sure the calendar sync apk file is in the right place, permissions set, etc.
Is there something I'm missing? When I go into the Calendar app, it doesn't let me add events or select calendars though I do have multiple calendars on my Google account.
If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate the help! Thanks!
Brent
you need to add GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk
There is info on this page:

Thanks, but I already have that in place. In fact, I have tried multiple versions of that file that I've found, including the one on the page you linked to.
I go into Root Explorer, copy that file, go into my system/app folder, mount for R/W, paste the file, change permissions to all read and the top middle write, then unmount back to RO, restart device.......no luck.
Is that process incorrect? I'm assuming it's something that I'm doing wrong since many people have gotten it working with the same files. But what could it be?
I installed the file mentioned above BEFORE installing the calendar app, and I always reboot after changing permissions, etc.
Any other ideas?
Brent
If it helps, my calendars don't even show up for sync in the Account Settings that I access using the GMail app. I do have the option to sync Picasa, Gmail, and Books, and all options are checked. But no calendar option.
So somehow, my calendars are still not being seen for whatever reason, despite doing everything exactly as instructed.
I'm so confused!

I set my permissions on GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk to 777, full open, read/write/execute as the instructions said. Try that.
If that doesn't fix it I would start over from scratch, find a good tutorial and be sure to add everything you need and set the correct permissions. It is possible that you installed a corrupt file or made a small error along the way.

Yep, already tried that with no luck.
As I mentioned, I'm sure that I'm missing something, but I've read through dozens of pages of people figuring this out, and nothing has worked for me. I've tried different packages and started over from scratch numerous times.
Everything works except for Calendar sync, including Mail sync, Books sync, etc. Market works and all other applicable Google apps. Which makes it even more confusing.

maybe this thread can help you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481055
Thanks. I did go through that thread, but will venture through it again to see if I missed anything. If nothing else, I'll just try everything again to see if something clicks. At this point, I think I've been through every thread and every method, but who knows.
Brent
Well, tried everything all over again, and still no luck.
There has to be something I'm missing. There is nothing different with my Fire than anyone else's. It's rooted with BurritoRoot and this is the first thing I try each time I restore to the freshly rooted system.
Outside of the calendar sync apk, do I need to move any other files to the system/app folder? Maybe another file I could be missing?
Any other ideas?

Hmmmm, mine works. I had rooted first with buritoroot, then lost root with the 6.2.2 update, then rooted with burittoroot2. I had the calender sysching under both version of the stock rom 6.2.1 and 6.2.2. All I ever did was place the calendarsyncadapter in the correct directory, change the permissions and it worked....
Going out on a limb here because it sounds like you're doing everything right...
Have you tried using your Fire in a different location? Like a friend's house or mcdonald's? The reason I ask is just that maybe for some reason your wireless network is doing something to the traffic going to google's servers for the calendar syncing.
Also I would be curious if the pocket informant app works for you. It says it syncs with your google calendar but for me that appears to only work when I have the calendarsyncadapter installed and working. So it would be a good test to see whether the google calendar app itself is the issue. Unfortunately it's a pay app (I got it when it was FAOTD).

Yeah, very strange. I did just that, putting the googlecalendarsyncapadapter.apk into the system/app folder and changing permissions to match the rest of the folder, but no luck. I've tried so many times and nothing.
I still Google around, but can't find anything else I haven't tried. It's driving me absolutely nuts!

I actually own PI(bought it a few days ago, actually), and it's a great app, but no, it doesn't work. I can use it with it's own built in calendar, but it won't sync to Google since I have no calendars available on my Fire.
I have used it in more than on location and have had no luck, btw. So it's not the network.
Baffling!

did you try with "any cut" - account and sync settings ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22211816&postcount=6
allthrough this should not be necessary but who knows ...

Yes, I have used it. It actually takes you to the same account and sync settings that can be accessed through the GMail app. When I tried Any Cut(a great app, btw), I still didn't have the checkbox for syncing calendar, just the mail and other items.
It's all just very strange since every other Google app works(which tells me the framework is fine), and I can bring up the screen to select calendars in the calendar app, but there are none there.
I'm running out of hope for this. It's possible I'll just have to do a ROM flash with a "full" Android version.
Does anyone know if I could copy the calendar sync apk from my HTC Evo or anything(since my phone obviously syncs fine)? Would they be significantly different versions or possibly mess anything up?
Brent
when you take care of the permissions nothing bad should happen
would just give it a try - can't be more that it don't work

Yeah, I'll just have to try it again. It's a bummer because I've been able to get pretty much everything else to work that I want, including alternative text input methods with handwriting recognition! So if I could get the calendar to work, I would be very happy!
Brent
Another thought - you didn't lose the case of the filename did you? i.e. it's not literally googlecalendarsyncadapter.apk, but GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk right?

Good suggestion, but no, I kept the file as-is, and just checked to be sure.
I'm curious, but should I place anything in the data/apps directory? I know that with some things, such as alternative keyboards, I need to place a file in there as well. I tried it with the calendar, but no luck. However, maybe I did the wrong files or something?
One more question, is it possible to uninstall everything related to the calendar and sync without deleting each file or restoring the system? Can I wipe the device of anything calendar related? Not sure how many folders it places files into.
Also, and this is probably a longshot, but can I use my recovery program to run the signed gapps file from the CM7 thread? Will that place everything correctly? Or will it only work with the CyanogenMod?
Brent
Also, just for reference, I even tried a couple of times using the Kindle Fire Utility to install the Google apps, and it still didn't work. Surely THAT would have done it right?

Hi all, I use RCMixS v2.0 and I really love this rom.
For now I have only a problem: the e-mail application doesn't display html emails corretly... it shows only the text.
I have looked also into the settings but there is no voice about that.
Can anyone give me a modified version of that Sense apk in order to see correctly html emails? (always if there is one apk that does that, obviously)
Thank you in advance,
Sbarabau
p.s: please don't tell me to change rom, because the RCMixS is perfect for me.
EDIT: i forgot: my email account is an hotmail synchronized through exchange activesync
No one can help me?

Why don't you use another email client? Have you tried to increase the mail size limit?

Thank you for your reply!
I dont' want to change email client because I fell good with the Sense interface.
I've already tried to increase the email's size limit, but no change... The option for select the HTML format is grey and unclickable.
I've also tried with this guide ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342174 ), but when I turn back the value to 2.5, it all return as it was initially...
P.s: sorry for my bad english

Now I'm using a CM7 ROM so have no chance to try it but here is what I found:
- Make sure you have not selected "download text" only under the sync settings.
- Select HTML format on your email server. I think hotmail have this kind of setting.
Somewhere I read you have to select an individual account for setting HTML format.

Same problem here ! Any help ?
I found the solution to this probleme !!!
You need Root and Root Explorer
I downloaded the mail.apk from one ROM (my memory is bad i don't remember) and I copied that mail.apk in \system\app and tried to install it from there. It started the installation but aborted cause I suppose the mail app is in use.
The trick is that after that aborted installation, the option to select Html or Text is now available and I could change it to Html...
Now everything is ok.
Is that the HTC Sense Mail.apk?
And the older Mail.apk? Have you replaced it in /system/app?
First, the mail.apk is not related to Sense but to the Android version, mine is 2.3.4
And Second, I replaced that one in \system\app
I tried to install it from there but it didn't work. In fact, it enabled the option HTML/TEXT !!!
I have RCMixS with Android 2.3.3
Anyway, that's a system apk, so you have to put into the system/app folder using adb
Third: if you replace the older Mail.apk in system/app, the older e-mail application obviously disappears.
P.S: with your method I lose my email app and the new one doesn't install. With adb, the app goes in crash when I open it.
I'm sorry to hear that you lost your older mail.apk.
As stated in my previous reply, You need Root Explorer and when you replace mail.apk, and try to install it from system\app it doesn't install but the option HTML is available right after.
And I told that it's related to 2.3.4 !!! and you have 2.3.3 so I am not sure if it will work with a different version (now i'm a bit sure)...
You should not use adb. And you have to find out a mail.apk from a 2.3.3 version to restore your email application.
Good luck.

I know I would have lost my email application, so I made a backup of the app.
Anyway, your argument does not stand: if I put a new Mail.apk in system/app and I replace the older, I will obviously lose my older email app!
P.S.: it isn't related to 2.3.4. What Sense version do you have?
P.S.2: for system apps you have to use adb. If you don't use it, the app will never install...
The solution for me is that I replaced mine by another mail.apk from another rom (without adb) and the html option was back and fixed.
I don't have time to polemicate about it.

I don't want to polemicate, I only want to know how to do that in order to make it work!
I asked you: What Sense version do you have?
Hello,
I just upgraded from Android Revolution 3.6.8 to 3.6.13 without wiping my stuff.
The problem of HTML mails from ActiveSync with my hotmail went back to TXT and the option is grayed.
So, I just copied the mail.apk (attached to my previous post) to system\app with ES explorer on phone (overwriting the one existing there) and tried to install the apk from system\app and yes it doesn't complete the installation but the icon disappeared from menu and main screen. So, I rebooted my phone. After that my email icon came back and when I go to option, I can now select HTML or TEXT.
My Sense is 3.0, Android 2.3.4 and Android Revolution 3.6.13 with 1.72Ghz CPU.
My method is working and I confirm I did it twice !

Sense 3.0 is different than Sense 2.1. For this reason the apk email didn't worked for me. It would be perfect to find a ported version for Sense 2.1 of that apk
