Move date in Google Calendar - Desire General

I have my google calendar synced with my Desire. No problems there. But is there any way I can move an appointment from one date to another?
I can't seem to find how to do it, and you can't drag it, so it seems the only way is to delete the contact, then recreate it on another day, which seems to be a bit of a drag.
Any help would be appreciated.
Ta.

Just click on the appointment in the calander, so it shows you the details. Then press the Menu button and choose Edit. Change the date there and save it.

Thanks, but I don't see 'edit' when I press the menu button, only 'add reminder', 'delete event' and share 'vCalendar'

That's strange. My menu key displays (among others) the Edit option as well.

This is even stranger...after updating with the new T-mobile update the other day, the 'edit' option has now appeared!
Oh well, problem solved I guess.

Need help removing start menu "recent applications" redirect

Can anyone point me in the right direction to remove the "recent applications" redirect when you hit the start button in the home screen? I just want the default behavior, where you hit the left softkey once, and it brings up the entire start menu.
I am pretty sure it has something to do with the
HKLM/software/microsoft/shell/RAI/:MSMRULauncher key
because i can manage to break its functionality rather easily, LOL, but I can't seem to figure out how to bypass it or un-redirect it.
i dont have my dash in front of me so forgive me if i lie
cant you go to settings > home screen and uncheck "show recent programs"?
this is based off 6.1 ricky's vanilla
AAHHHHHH, gixxum, u speaketh the truth. I hadn't even noticed that, obviously. THANK YOU!
since that was so easy, i'll ask another stewpid question. how come "send\recieve" is now greyed out in the inbox menu when i am using an activesync connection? The obvious answer is that i am already connected to the exchange server, but i used to be able to manually force it to sync right from the inbox. any ideas?

[Q] Stupid questions from a stupid android n00b

Right, this is my first time EVER using an Android phone so PLEASE forgive me for these epically stupid sounding questions.
1. How do I change a ringtone/notification sound to one I choose rather than what's already pre-loaded on the phone?
2. Is there a more "In-Depth" battery?..I would prefer to have it in % rather than the symbol it is.
3. With the mail application I have both of my GoogleMail accounts sync'd to it, but whenever I recieve an email It will play the notification sound but wont show up in the "Mail" app.
Any help would be amazing!
Answer to 1: You can change the sounds in the personalize menu by scrolling to the bottom, don't know where that is?
Answer to 2: You can flash various battery mods located in the Themes & Apps section, I presume/hope your phone is S-OFF and rooted?
Answer to 3: Have you waited for the app to refresh? If so, try adding the emails again.
My phone was actually new out of the box today from Vodafone, so it isn't S-off?
I can find the personalise menu, but when I press on "Notification" sound it only gives me the option to choose one of the ones which are allready on the phone, even at the bottom it doesn't have the option to chose my own.
Oh and also for the emails, they show up in the "Gmail" application but not in the "Mail" widget

No it won't be S-OFF, I suggest you look at the sticky roll up thread in the Android Development section.
And it's the button on the right of the phone, you can also access it by long pressing on an empty space.
Edit: In fact, look at this excellent thread!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942531
regarding ringtones and notification sound try connecting your phone to your PC and open your SD card place in the SD card two new folders one called notifications one called yes you got it ringtones put the sounds you want to use in these two new files ,then dissconnect your phone from the PC when you now go to change your sms notifications you should find in the list your choices , to set a ringtone to a particular person go to your standard music player scroll to the music track you wish to use then then hit menu i think if i remember correctly it will give you the option of selecting that track as a contact ringtone, the above will also give you the option to use selected track as a general ringtone , the only notification sound i havent managed to change for my own is email the above route dont seem to work for email ,hope this helps mate
Thank you so much for the Ringtone/Notifcation advice!
I feel so stupid for not getting that!
I just need to sort out my email problem now
dont feel stupid mate its only because of the wealth of info from this site that i could even answer your problem , regarding the email ,have you linked your emails to your google mail account and enabled pop3 in the options for linking the accounts, you might also try linking your accounts via the PC rather than doing it on your phone ,iam sure someone with far more knowhow in this will probably be able to give you a much clearer answer than i can as im still learning myself
ps google and the search function on this site are your freinds use them and you will probably find the answers your looking for ,has worked for me on several occasions ,good luck mate
Well, when I Initially set up the phone it asked me for my google account, which I gave it which I assume it synced up with the Gmail app, Accessing it later on I added my second Gmail account to that app.
Whenever I have the "Mail" widget open however it wont access any of the emails IN the inbox or any new ones, regardless of the amount of times I press "Refresh"
try this not sure if it will help but it cant hurt to watch n learn

Thats what I have, I have two accounts in the Gmail app but it doesn't show any of THOSE emails in the "Mail" widget
can i ask what mail widget your using
The one that comes built into the phone.
Aside from a game or two and advanced task killer, I have downloaded nothing!
So my two Google accounts show up in the "GMAIL" application, but the Android/HTC mail widget which can be put on one of the homescreens wont show ANY of the emails I get into the two google accounts.

You have to go into the HTC Mail app and then set up your Gmail accounts in there for the HTC Mail widget to work. The native Gmail app is totally separate from HTC Mail app and widget.
See here for details: http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/82450-gmail-via-htc-mail-app-widget.html
EDIT: Task Killers are big no-no... Google "why you shouldn't use task killers for Android"

Contact Converter Resurrected

I didn't realize there would be any continuing demand for my converter, so I brought it back. Hopefully someone will find it useful. Also, I will do better about checking back on potential problems. Unfortunately I lost the source for this project (I think, I will keep looking), so any changes will require a new project. Luckily, it is not complicated and can be accomplished rather easily if need be, but I would prefer to avoid it.
These are the supported fields:
FirstName
LastName
Email
mobile number
home1 number
business1 number
home2 number
business2 number
faxHome number
faxBusiness number
company number (not sure i got this field right, but whatever)
There was previously an issue with names without a last name, but it should be working correctly now.
Procedure is the same as before:
This will NOT work with an Office CSV file (maybe in the future, we will see).
Ok so here is how it works.
Log in to your "My Verizon" account on http://verizonwireless.com/
Click "Select All"
In the "Select Action" dropdown, select "Export Contacts"
Click "Go"
Select "CSV (Backup Assistant)" in the drop-down
Click "Export"
Save the csv file it sends you.
Go to my website http://www.craigslistcounter.net/KinContacts.aspx and select your file in the upload section, then click upload. Save the Cellebrite XML file it sends you back.
Now, use johnkussack's most excellent KINO application to upload the Cellebrite XML to the root of your phone (instructions for setup there).
Restart your phone.
From the phone app, hit ##77647266488 and press call.
Enter 000000 in the code box.
Go to the "Contacts" menu at the bottom, and click "Import Contacts"
All of your contacts should import. 270 took me a few seconds. If it is taking too long you probably didn't restart after uploading the file to your phone (tsk tsk), so just shut it down and turn it back on.

Gmail, Calendar and Contacts

So I bought my wife a used but very new Kindle Fire 2. Took it home, setup her email app to connect to gmail. All worked well until I realized that the previous owner didn't do a proper factory reset of the device. Still had enough of his stuff to where I could have really screwed him. I didn't. Anyway, I didn't want to have to mess around with manually removing his stuff. So I did a factory reset. The correct way. All his stuff was gone. Went to re-setup email and got the error message that I didn't have permission to sync with that server. I guess it has to do with changes google made to how devices connect to them via a non-google app. They are not allowing new connections and since I hard rest the Kindle, google looked at it as a new connection. After a lot of searching and messing around, I found one solution that allowed me to seup the email, but no calendar and contact syncing. I then happened across the below website that gave me the solution that finally fixed the problem. Email, Calendars and contacts all sync. I hope this helps others not spend the amount of time I did to find the solution. Below is the solution. I cannot post the link but it was found at kindle-fireforum dot com - You just need to fix the url in step three. Being a junior member I had to put it like that so I could post it. I'm sure you'll figure it out.
I had this problem setting up gmail account on new Kindle.
Here is what Kindle support gave me. Worked fine.
Connect to a Wi-Fi network.
2. On the Home screen, swipe down from the top and select More. Tap Device. Tap ON to turn on Allow Installation of Applications from unknown sources. Tap OK on the warning dialog box that pops up. Don’t worry! You will turn off this feature once update is completed.
3. On the Home screen, tap Web. Enter url address
(just add http :// here)bit.ly/0018580031
and select Go. When you open the web url link in the Silk Web browser, the update downloads automatically.
4. Swipe down from the top of the screen to see the notification bar. You should be able to see the update downloading. Once it completes, tap Email.Apk. Tap OK on the “Replace application” dialog box that follows.
5. Tap Install on bottom right on the “Do you want to install this application?” screen, update will then download. Tap Done after application installed.
6. On the Home screen, swipe down from the top and select More. Tap Applications. Tap Installed Applications. Tap Email. Verify version number is 1.04_104003110.
7. On the Home screen, swipe down from the top and select More. Tap Device. Tap OFF to turn off Allow Installation of Applications from unknown sources.
8. On the Home screen, tap Apps. Tap Device. Tap Email. Select Gmail from the list of account, and then enter the requested information. With the email app update you should not have to edit any server information.

Set Contact Picture - Android 11 - How?

Hi everyone,
So how do I?
I use "set as" from gallery....nope...nothing happens.
I open the contact and choose edit and all there is is the phone number, no way I see to add a picture.
Oh I searched and of course got info about 15 years old for android 2 or something, always helpful how up to date the net is.
Thank you for your up to date help.
No problem here...
Open contact, choose edit and click on the picture/icon. Then I can select icon, choose gallery or camera to select new icon.
Working may depend on where your contacts are stored... (google, phone, Microsoft exchange, etc). You can change standard location in contact - settings (3 dots)

Therein lies my problem, when I choose edit there is no picture icon, only contact name and number.
Is it possible this is because my contacts are on the sim and not saved on the phone?
I will give that a try, did not think of it before, thank you for prompting the thought.

It is more than possible since the contacts are at your sim card. Try moving them on your phone and see if that helps.

Yes worked a treat!
However getting the contacts onto the phone was tricky.
I exported by sharing to FX file manager and saved to the SDCard then imported from there as there is no import from Sim option for some bizarre reason.
But got there in the end.
Thank you.
