sprint sim unlock? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hey my brother jus gave me his touch pro 2 and I was wonderin if I needed the sim unlocked and if I do how do I unlock it. Thx in advance to anyone that can help

I am not sure that the CDMA versions of the TP2 have a SIM card slot, ill look around to verify this, but other wise you are stuck using it on Sprint's network by way of an ESN swap.

sprint tp2 is cdma and gsm so yea it has a sim slot. sprint locks the sim so that it only works with International sim cards. in order for it to be used on US gsm networks, you have to use the SIM unlocker.

thx for the help

Sprint version: does not disable GSM?

The Sprint version is being advertised as an international phone, and comes with a Sprint SIM card pre-installed, and what appears to be a security strap, making it difficult to remove.
Before traveling internationally, you can call Sprint ahead of time to have them active their SIM card, and for the low low price of $1.99/minute, you can use overseas GSM networks to make phone calls, and in many cases, data access.
Of course I'd like to buy a pay-as-you-go SIM card and install that for much more reasonable rates while overseas, but I'm not sure if it's as simple as plugging in a different SIM card.
I had read that the Rogers version of the phone required...something to active the SIM slot, and even then seemed not to work for data via 3G.
Anybody else have the Sprint version? Played with GSM yet?
I'm a little apprehensive to start tearing into it to remove their SIM card just yet...
The GSM is 2G only, no 3G.
Well my buddy has a AT&T sim card that i put in my TP2 but it did not work. I switch the phone to GSM only but it did not pick up a network. I also put that sprint sim on his phone but it had no network either. According to the manual its lock from going to a gsm network on the USA.

Hopefully a custom ROM can unlock the ability to use GSM networks in the United States!

good to know.
I read in the manual that it was not usable on US GSM networks too, but I assumed that was because they never intended for you to remove the Sprint SIM card, so of course the Sprint SIM card wouldn't work domestically.
So it seems the Sprint phone can be unlocked for GSM just like the Telus phones, but I haven't read of any success getting GSM 3G to work w/ an unlock code.

d'oh, missed this....
What about EDGE?
Check the specs, if it said gsm 850,1900 it should be able to use with in the US. Just have to sim unlock it first in order to use.

What do you mean by unlocked? Do you mean Hardspl or do you mean Sim unlock? If you only dead a hardspl then you can't use another sim. Go here for the sim unlocker
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=555339
you could try calling t-mobile and seeing if they'll provide the unlock code for you.
Tell them you are going overseas for business and need the device unlocked. This has worked for me with at&t and t-mobile.
I agree it sounds like you didn't sim unlock the phone
come on guys, its obviously SIM unlock if trying a different sim card..
it took my activation number (got it from tmoblie) clearly said the phone was SIM UNLOCKED, then i put the boost sim card, it said "network locked"
i did not try any other card yet, maybe boost sim cards are not supported, but ima test a at&t sim card to see if it works.
I know someone here must of have "NETWORK LOCK" after they SIM unlock there phone, please help me out.

Just my 2 cents for what it is worth. You might want to call boost and see if your sim is locked to an imei #. I know ATT has been using locking sim cards on prepaid for a few months now. Worth a shot
i would say your problem is coming from boost mobile and not from the phone itself... as the person above me mentioned ATT has started locking sims to phones when you buy prepaid sims, not a longshot to assume boost and t-mo will start to do this as well (if they havent already)... or it could be that boost isnt actually a gsm carrier even though it uses sims... not sure about that.
edit: i googled boost mobile technology type and they are owned by sprint... to the best of my knowledge even if you get your GSM phone unlocked it is still not going to accept a sprint (or boost) sim card.
why not, isn't the tmobile one still wcdma and gsm?
like i said... to the best of my knowledge... i never said my knowledge was any good.
can anyone confirm this?
edit: i did some more googling and all the people who asked on yahoo answers and the like got the same answer, no, your boost sim will not work in a GSM phone... i beleive if the tilt 2 were capable of both technologies it would have to have slots for both sims as well..
and to the OP, if you can get a buddy with an ATT sim to try it in the phone this will give us a definitive answer whether or not its the phone or the sim causing problems.
Boost uses the Nextel iDEN network. Although iDEN and GSM both use sim cards they run on different networks. Your Boost sim is incompatible with a T-Mobile TP2. Sorry.

[Q] Will a Sprint TP2 Work ON Boost Mobile??

I just bought a touch pro 2 from a someone that told me it would work on boost mobile is that true? i tried taken out my sim card and putting it in but it did not let me make calls or anything.. do i have to unlock it? or is it that my sim card is not compatibility being that it is a iden sim taken from my i776 inserted into a cdma type phone? i know boost use sprint cdma network on some of there phones so i thought it would work with no problems since i seen that the touch had a sim in it..please guide me into the right direction on getting this phone activated to work on boost.. Thank you
the sim card for iden will not work in the cdma phone. just call boost and tell them u want to migrate your number/account from iden to cdma. if you get the right csr they'll help you program the tp 2(sprint branded) w the understanding service is not guaranteed.
Yes it could work you need to be on Boost/Sprints CDMA Network though thats the first step the rest is flashing it but yes it could work as long as you can get it unlocked and flashed to Boost i dont know specifics though hope this helps

[Q] Can the LG Optimus G LS970 be unlocked for use with a GSM carrier?

Hi there, I've been looking for this answer all over the internet but it isn't clear to me yet...
Is it possible to unlock a Spring LG Optimus G LS LS970 for use in another country GSM carrier?
I understand that this phone have a micro sim slot and support both Quad Band GSM & HSDPA, and some listings in ebay says that it can be flashed to metro pcs or crickett, also some sites on the net sells the unlock codes for this phone. Thanks in advance...

You would have to have a rom, or software for the sim card to properly pass calls over a GSM network. If you don't want to use sprint, your best off unlocking the device and taking it to metro or boost.

So basically if I do the sim mod and install the correct ROM I'll be able to make calls over any GSM network worldwide?
No ROM currently supports this. Once I get the LGOG off my account I'll play with it.
I couldn't help but say that Boost is Sprint's prepaid option.
Metro isn't the move either, everyone I know who's had it was absolutely furious with their phones and service.

I don't think...
I'm pretty sure the Sprint Optimus G does not have a Micro-SIM slot whatsoever. I have done some research and looked all over my phone and there is no spot there a SIM card would go.
I believe you may be talking about the AT&T version of the phone.
If that is so, I would recommend having a mod move it to the proper forum.

There's no slot for one, but if you tear the phone apart, there is a spot where a micro SIM can be soldered directly to the board so the phone detects it. Check out the link posted earlier in this thread if you're interested. Nobody's gotten it fully-working yet, but the capability is there...

So what's the point? Sprint isn't GSM so the only use for a SIM card would be to save numbers, no? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Partially Wrong

You are partially wrong, If the phone was to be unlocked to another carrier than the SIM card would not only be used for contacts storage but to allow GSM Service on that specific network. For example if I used the SIM mod and unlocked the phone to Tmobile (since they are a GSM based network) than the phone is required to have a SIM for the GSM service and contact storage or you could just use your Gmail Account for your contacts back-up. ( I think that is what it is, Don't hold me to it though)

Not really. I had my note 3 from sorint running on tmobile. But i only had edge and slow service bad voice calling. This phones hardware bands and software bands arent really meant for it. I had to modify the carrier info in my phone to get on tmobile alone. But ince there sorint didnt work anymore. A domestic sim card unlock isnt as easy as with gsm. With gsm the carrier info is practically just in the sim card. But with sprint CDMA it in the phone. Right now sprint sims are just for the lte and spark network. Not the actual use of the phone. So youre kinda out of luck sorry.

Ita bc the hardware is not made for it. The frequencies arent right. If you go to sprinta website the only phones they have that they can domestically unlock for any gsm are the iphones.
