hardware buttons - Desire General

Hi all,
I have a hd2 at the moment and going getting a desire next week. Is there any app out there to reassign the hardware button to answer hang up .

Not sure but I wondered the same coming from the G1 but tbh you don't need one. The phone works very well with the proximity sensor and you have a very big end call available on the screen as well as slide up and down answering functions when receiving a call.

Using a Blue Angel handsfree.

Here's the scenario.
I have my blueangel in my pocket.
It's off and the button lock is engaged so that it wont turn itself on accidentally. There's nothing I hate more than when it switches itself on in my pocket and goes berserk with random screen input.
My bluetooth headset is connected.
(I'm not even gonna start on how appaling the blue tooth on the blue angel is !!!!!, but that aside.....)
The phone rings and I press the answer buton on my headset to answer it.
The damn phone is now on in my pocket and the screen is active and receiving input during the call. Quite apart from anything else, there is a great big red END CALL button on the screen just waiting to be touched.
Assuming the call survives any problems, at the end of the call I have to get the phone out of my pocket to turn it off again because it wont turn itself off unless the activity timeout occurs which is not going to happen if the screen is being brused by anything in my pocket.
Is there some configuration or tool or utility or something that can detect when the phone is in handfree mode and disable screen input unless a certain button is pressed (like the green phone buton) and then switch the phone off again when the call is terminated ?

Have a look at this.
Im using it, and its the one that does the job best of them all out there, well in my opinion anyway
What about a case?
I had an alu one... no problem!
OK. I got NiceStart and had a play with it.
I think I have got it configured to work OK now.
Seems to solve most of the issues I raised.
I can't believe I had to get extra software to do that though.
I mean, it's not as if any of those probelms are either unforseeable or hard to solve.
It makes you wonder if the people who design these devices ever actually use them for real for any length of time.
The worst thing about it, is that i can buy a 1$ phone with a locking thats even better than this.
People have been screaming about this since the birth of WM, but M$ dont seem to be hearing this.
I have set Start->Settings->System->Button Lock-> Lock all ........power Button
Set a 4 digit password in NiceStart and mapped it to the 4 action buttons right under the screen.
Works great, but the screen will from time to time light up (M$ thing that it must do) to check the battery status. This cant be stopped in any way.

Typing numbers while on the phone?

I was reading the user reviews of the Fuze on another website when I noticed one saying that the Fuze requires you to press the power button to reactivate the screen each time you need to press a phone number button on the screen while you are on the phone. Is this a requirement on the TP2? As someone who has to deal with phone trees and other automated phone systems alot for business calls I was thinking that I should ask about this as it would be extremely inconvenient.
The proximity sensor will automatically turn on the screen if you move your face away from the device during a call. There's a big button to bring up the keypad to use. If the keypad is deployed and you put the device back to your face, the screen will turn off. But if you turn the screen back on, the keypad will still be deployed, so that's pretty useful.
Thank you very much for this information, it in nice to hear that this problem was resolved on the TP2. I was also wondering if it is possible to run the speakerphone with the TP2 in face up so one could type on the dialpad on the screen while hearing the responses from the phone call? I'm guessing this is possible as my old 8525 does it fine but I just thought I should confirm it. Thanks in advance.
During a call, you can also take out your stylus, it will start notes.. makes it available to write on the screen during a phonecall.

Yes, there's a large button during a call for you to tap to switch to speakerphone as an alternative to putting the device face down on a table. Dialpad works the same in speakerphone mode as in normal mode.

Locked during BT call

I am getting very interested in switching my 3gs (and hero) to this beauty but I need to know if the screen/ buttons works as I hope. Does the desire stay locked during a call if you use a bluetooth headset?
I found this very annoying on my hero that I constantly hung up on people while on a call..
Is there anyone lucky out there who knows?
If you are using the secure lock with 'password' it stays locked.
If you are using only the keylock, it does not stay locked.
BUT...
The phone has a proximity detector which is enabled during calls and turns the screen off _before_ anything touches it, so there shouldn't be a problem.
Ok great news. Are you anledning to hang up With Any of the hardware buttons?
Non comprehende
Oops haha iPhone dont like me writing english.. What i meant was are you able to hang up with hardware buttons during bt Call? With My hero i believe the trackball could hang up a Call. Then again hero has answer/reject buttons but desire dont. Thanks alot for info!

Weird "another" call screen?

Standard (edit: standard HTC desire) Froyo, answered a call while browsing the market, and suddenly had a very strange call screen.
It had 4 buttons (add call, pause call, in addition to normal mute and speaker) instead of the normal 2, and the lower bar a smaller end call button plus some extra ones!
Its back to normal after a restart...
Whats going on?

Thank you!
But those are not the sense screens (they are standard android) and not what I saw. Appreciate your help, must be difficult to imagine what I am trying to say just from a description. WIsh i had taken a foto....
PS have edited my original post to reflect its HTC froyo; my mistake!
was it like in this thread but obviously not skewed to one side
no link in your message....

doh
THATS THE ONE!
But mine had the contact card, and the "numbers" button on the bottom row (Since i was on a call) and a little end call button!
so strange......
BUT thanks for solving the mystery somewhat, at least I know im not going mad!
I dont get them buttons on mine but can get buttons that do the same thing by pressing menu during the call. Maybe there is some sort of shortcut to enable them? I would be interested to know if there is as well.
Its probably a hidden screen in the system that was never used, but somehow gets called up.
THis is how it happened to me, so try it, maybe its a reproducible bug. Browse the market, and get someone to call you, then answer....

Screen sensor

Any way to deactivate this so the screen doesn't keep turning on/off every time I put the phone to my head? Thanks in advance.
I'm rooted and running Virtuous Sense if that makes a difference.

Just wondering....why? You would be hanging up on people a lot. Hell in google voicemail I put the phone up to my ear and it pauses it all the time.

I just get a lot of calls. Looking at the phone when I get call waiting, or having to conference a call, or mute a call....always have to wait for the screen to turn on. It may only seem like a half-second to you, but when you use your phone non stop during the course of your business day it adds up to one big annoyance.

Makes sense, but what about the risk of your ear hanging up on people?

I'm not 15 feet tall. I think that would have to be one big ear. The speaker is at the top of the phone, and the END button is at the bottom of the screen. I'm not too worried about my ear coming near it.
I'd rather just tap the power button to turn off the screen when I know I'm going to be talking for a while and no longer need the screen on to manipulate the call(s).

Won't pressing the power button hang up on the person?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I hope not.
BTW, does anyone know if I can deactivate the screen sensor?
I may actually switch from Sense back to CM7 because of this issue. With CM7 the sensor reacts much faster than with Sense. However I really am enjoying this Sense ROM so I'd rather not have to switch back.

I'm pretty sure if you look in cm settings there's a place thatyou can set the screen to stay on on calls.. I know its there just not entirely sure where as I've been running miui for about a month now.. and its not necesarrily your ear.. if yourr cheek were to touch the screen that could cause it to hang up also
*I'm just sayin...
I believe you're correct about that feature in CM7. However, that feature, along with a couple apps I found in market, will keep the screen on and prevent it from timing out.....possibly even dimming the screen. However, the proximity sensor still kicks in and completely turns off the screen every time you put the phone to your ear. It's almost as if the proximity sensor has immunity from the feature list. Kind of surprised this hasn't been pursued before in here.
