spare battery alternative - General Accessories

Since I bought my HTC desire it hasn't lasted a day without charging.
I'm beginning to get a bit annoyed at having to carry my usb cable and plugging into any available power source at every chance I get.
Was thinking of a spare battery, but I can't justify the price for an original or trust the performance/reliability of a cheap one.
Then I came across this
duracelldirect.co.uk/pno/ubp0103b.html
(can't post a link, no privelages yet)
Has anyone had any experience using an emergency charger for everyday use, or are they just too weak?

It holds 2200 mA/h. The HD2 battery is 1230 so i'm guessing the desire has about 1000 based on its smaller size.
In theory, the duracell should be able to give 2 full charges.
I have been thinking the same thing - its a bit annoying wondering whether the battery will make it to the end of the day. Beware of cheap emergency chargers on ebay - i seen one with only 250 ma/h...
If you buy this let me know how well it works

This just got delivered today, charging at the minute.
First impressions, good build quality, will let you know it it hold any charge tomorrow.

I thought the desire was 1400mah? (at leat according to gsmarena). You must be using it fairly heavily?

Gonna try them out...not sure what i'm gonna get but for 13 bucks worth a try

Highly doubtful 2000ma batteries, probably 1500ma batteries that are really 1300ma. Tutoit on ebay I have 2x1500ma batteries for a 9.98$ shipped with a charger, I would get that instead.
yeah, either get the 2 1500s and the charger for 11 50

I was just looking at this... seems like a great idea... the extra charger allows you to keep a second battery charged without using the EVO to do it. Even if it's really a lower rated battery... still a good deal.
Did you try it?

I ordered it, but still waiting...those hong kong shipments take a while, i'll let you know as soon as I test it out

I have a set of the 1500 mah batteries with the charger as was posted above, and I have no problem with them. I use my OEM battery most of the time, but sometimes it is handy to have some fully-charged back-ups. Honestly, I don't see much of a difference between what my OEM battery lasts and the knock-offs. For the price, you can't beat it.
so how are the batteries?
normally i would stay way from cheap Chinese crap on eBay, but with what i read here on the xda boards in regaurds t othe ok qualitybeing good enough that they might work out, so i ordered 2x1850 plus charger from ebay. i dont have time to do any real testing but i can say that:
1 not having to charge the battery from the phone is nice
2 i always have one on the charger, one in my pocket and one in the phone.
3 charging in the base seems to get me a better charge
4 i cant tell a difference between oem and knock offs, although you would think that the 1800's would last longer than the 1500oem but we know how that knock off crap goes. in my book if they are the same as oem, regardless as to what they claim and dont require a bigger back plate, then i guess that's good enough.
The 2 from tutoit or what ever the sellers name is work great last as long or longer then my stock battery. The charger also gives a better charge to the batteries then I get through my phone I'm talking extra hours when I charge with it.

I got this and it's a good deal for the price.
The batteries aren't as good as oem. Probably last 75-80% as long.
The charger works well though and it's nice to have a couple extra batts laying around. I've only cycled them 4 or 5 times so I suppose the life could improve...time will tell.

I Have a number of Minor issues with mine. Must of gotten a bad set.
1) USB port on the charger does not output enough juice to charge the phone (Accually Locks it up until I unplug it)
2) Charger seems hit or miss on recharging the Stock Battery. I've left it plugged in all night and come back to ~20% charge when I pop it in a number of times
3) Random Screen cut off when charging the Replacements IN the phone.
So I only charge the Ghetto batteries in the charger provided.
That being said, I STILL think it's a great deal and more than happy with my purchase. I have 2 spare batteries for my phone (Or the wifes CDMA Hero) and a way to charge one w/o having to leave my phone behind (I don't have to babysit my phone for a charge, If someone walks out of the poker room or party with my charger and battery it's no big deal) The 2 China batts. are just emergency tanks, The Red one gets put back in as soon as I get home.
Best Purchase at twice the price.
Don't wait press the BUY NOW!!!!
Loved the first set so much that I purchased a second set 2 weeks later. I keep 1 set at work and 1 set at home. I always carrying a fully charged battery in plastic bag in my pocket. I love the EVO but hate the battery life. The first month I owned the EVO was hell for me having to carry a power charger and cable everywhere. I hated having to plug my phone in every time I found a power outlet worried if I didn't I may find myself without a phone when I needed it or having to fight everyone at the airports for power outlets. Now when I'm low on juice, I just switch batteries.... BUY NOW you'll never regret it....
I purchased 2 3500 batteries with new backs on e-bay for $22 and change. They work great I can go for over a day with fairly heavy usage.
Only minor problem was that with the phone thicker my silicone case doesn't fit as good. Extra weight no problem.
Yeah one thing I have learned from buying these types of batteries and charger is that they don't like to charge the OEM batteries but charge the cheapo ones just fine. I've noticed it on alot of things not just phone batteries.
buy it for the charger
i bought a 2000mAh that turned out to be a 900mAh so i would only buy it for the charger.
I wouldn't recommend the 2 x 1500 batteries plus charters the 1500's seem like a 1300 or a little less I would say try get the 1800 one from eBay they have a lot of auctions for them so all you gotta do is be patient and try to get for cheap that's what I'm tryin to do
Just ordered one of the 1800mah.. will see how this works out!

So Ebay batteries?

So I know there are a couple of posts on here but I have found them a little hard to follow. I just got my captivate last sunday and on the stock 2.1 rogers rom I noticed that the battery life was very poor. Since then I am now running cog 3.01 i think and my battery life is now alot longer than before.
For the way I would like to use my phone It is still not enough for what would make me happy. my phone is unplugged at 6:00 am and when i get home by 5 it used to be dead but after "breaking in the battery" and the new rom i get home with about %15 percent battery.
I just bought a triple battery pack off of ebay for $10. these batteries are rated at 1500 mAh, the same as the battery that came with my phone. I am just wondering what I can expect from these batteries.
My plan is to drain two of them completely then leave them in my desk drawer(from what I have read if you plan on storing batteries they should be completely drained first) and use one of them plus my oem battery daily(until they start to lose performance). Again does anyone have any experience with a battery of the sort or any similar third party battery?
they are no where as good as samsung oem battery. even though it says 1500mah it is not or will drop drastically after a month or so of use...i've bought a lot of those batteries from ebay and they always like that even some other well known companies like Seidio do not compare with manufacture's batteries. the difference is usable capacity, oem batteries are around 95% compared to cheap chinese ones that are anywhere from 60-80%.
haha thanks that makes sense why they are so cheap, well i will probs by three new ones every months or so.
I have those ebay batteries. I bought the kit that comes with two batteries and an external charger for about $10.
The ebay battery is has about 60-70% of the power of the OEM battery. I have no real hard evidence just from using it for the past 2 months or so.
I am ok that it is does not last as long as OEM because it was only $10 and it came with the external charger. I love the external charger because it allows me to charge a spare battery while I keep one in my phone.

I bought the same ensemble, with essentially the same results excepting perhaps that one of my replacement batteries seems to underperform with about 40% of OEM battery life.
That said, for $10... they're very handy as backups. They'll easily give you a few more hours in a pinch, which is essentially just what I was looking for. I really have no complaints in that respect.
The best strategy for battery life I've found is to buy a handful of wall adapters and position them in places you spend a lot of time at, and to develop a habit of plugging in when you're not moving around.
Sad but true, but mediocre battery life is just kind of a way of life for these (and really all) high-performance Android devices. Excepting getting an outsized and expensive battery replacement like the Seidio 3500 mAh that all but prevents use with many accessories and cases, a couple wall chargers and a car charger are effective if mildly annoying means of managing it.
These generic Hong Kong replacements are entirely effective as emergency supplements, but you'll find yourself preferring the OEM cell still.
Yep I mean for $20 I have two charges and 4 batteries so if I need to go without power , even if not a 100% match for the oem power, it is still damn cheap.
I also got one of these from ebay.
I got the 2x 1500mah batteries + Battery Charger combo.
I must say I am impressed. They are the same quality as my OEM battery. Its so convenient. I never have to run to a charger anymore. Just keep the spare battery in my car or wherever and just pop it in and carry on with my daily business.
When I get home, I just re-charge all the batteries. The Battery Charger even has an LED Light that tells you when its finished. "RED: while charging" and "BLUE: when finished". Charging takes about roughly 3 hours, (just like OEM).
Edit: Been using this for about a month so far. With no problems.. Its the best feeling. My phone is never plugged in anymore. And, I don't have to "pinch the settings" to make my phone last.
IE. lowering brightness to 10%, turning sync off, turning wireless networks off, etc.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
only crappy thing is??? I plan to sell this phone soon, when the Galaxy S 2 comes out, if the specs are good enough.

Would you mind posting the link or giving us the name of the exact vendor you ordered from?... I'm about to order the 2xbatteries and charger combo, but just want to make sure I get batteries that are half way decent. When I search on eBay I get about 20 vendors selling similar combos and given that in HK they're celebrating Chinese New Year... most won't fulfill orders until next week.
i wouldnt waste your money unless you just want an extra.

1700mAh or 1650mAh batteries - Has anyone tried them?

For those of us who don't want a fat new battery door on our phones, but want to improve on the stock battery, it seems there aren't many choices. Currently there is the overpriced and underhyped "1600"mAh from Seidio which I don't think I'm willing to pay for considering the reviews I've seen.
There's a 1650mAh from Mugen Power which I know very little about. I considered it, but for $45 and without any knowledge of its performance, this is a tough purchase for me. Anybody tried this one?
There's another one at HTC Express that's claiming 1700mAh, and I haven't really found a whole lot of reviews on it aside from a forum post or two in other places. Has anybody given this battery a shot? They're pretty cheap, (2 batteries and a wall charger for $35) so I think I might try it just for kicks.
I got the HTC Express set - two "1700mAH" batteries and a wall charger. Paid about $20 shipped on ebay from chichitec.
In short, the wall charger is crap. Half the time, the indicator light doesn't light, so I'm not sure if it's charging or not. It feels like cheap plastic.
Let me get straight to the point about the batteries - they're the same rating as the stock, the only thing 1700mAH about these is the writing on the labels. They're 1350mAH batteries like the one that came with it. They don't last any longer than the stock, maybe a bit less, but not enough to tell a difference.
That said, $20 for two backup batteries isn't too bad. I just don't know how long they will last - cheap batteries tend to die more quickly.
I got the same package for about $25 on amazon (via chickitek). Anyway, the charger works well for me and I haven't had the same issues as the previous poster. The batteries definitely are lasting as long if not longer than the stock. I'm rooted w/ Bamf 1.6.3 and undervolted a bit and I'm still at about 50-65% after about 12-16 hours. With that being said, I mainly am on Wifi so very little 4G.
I tried the Seidio battery that claims 1600/1700 and it basically wouldn't allow my GPS to work. Haven't had the same issues with these and on top of that, these are MUCH cheaper.
they probably won't last forever as the last poster mentioned, but they're doing great for now...just rotating the three batteries I now have.
Ditto the above posters. No regular-sized battery available will be larger in capacity than stock. These "1700mah" batteries are some of the better replacement batteries around, but don't think for a moment that they're better than stock. For better battery life without a pregnant phone, battery stat calibration and system management (governor, undervolting, data sync scheduling, etc.) are your only options.

Agreed 100%.
They batteries are no better than stock and the indicator lights on my charger started going in and out after 1 day of use. It does still work though.
i have the 1600mAh Seido one and theres practically no difference between that and the stock.
i still have the stock 1500mAh and 2 MyTouch 4G 1500mAh batteries as well.
pretty much i keep them all charged and when one craps out i switch to another.
[EDIT]: oh and yeah, you can use MyTouch 4G aka HTC Merge aka 42100 batteries in the Thunderbolt

Using external powerbanks?

I'm considering buying this powerbank:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BQ5KHJW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A294P4X9EWVXLJ
Many people recommend Anker but what about this model? I plan to use this not every day but for short weekend trips. My father plans to use this for his Sony Xperia Z Ultra.
I hear good things about Ravpower and Xioami (though you have to make sure they're the genuine kind).
Any thoughts?
I've become a bit of an Anker zealot lately and have bought batteries, a mouse, a keyboard and a bluetooth speaker from them. All work incredibly well and easy way beyond what the price suggests (sort of like the OPO).
As for the batteries I have the Astro slim 4500 and the 10k mAh bank and both work as advertised. The capacity on them seems to be lower if you're filling from empty (probably heat related) so if I NEED the batteries to stretch a short camping trip I'll try to do more topping off as time allows.

I showed it to a friend who also bought the exact some one. Great size and fast charging with pass through.
I use this exact same one, I love it because they offer 3A charging, large mah and fair prices. Very hard to beat.
It depends what you're looking for. The way physics works, you won't get the whole advertised mAh. You'll only get about 70% of it (rest is lost as heat) given that, a 10,000mah battery pack will only provide 7000 to charge which will only charge the one plus from 0-100% twice ONLY if you're charging the phone which while it's off. I'm looking at getting one that will harte the phone 3 times and that also has a a % indication on the battery pack. I've only found one for 15000mah and has the LED % indicator

Consider to buy one without AutoPowerOn on plug.
Actually, the OnePlus has a good battery life, and you surely can make it run for 2 days easily with only messaging and internet. Though, I think a 10k mAh should be more than enough for a couple of days. I actually have a 2000 mAh battery only in case when I'm out of home for more than 24h but I've never used it. I'm also using the power Quick Tile and I think with the "energy saving mode" enabled you can last one and a half day easily
Sorry for my approximative english, cheers !

Chinese battery cases

Anybody try any of the ~$15 battery cases on eBay from China? About 10 listings pop-up without trying, but all seem to be the same, from the description anyway... Just seems like for the money if it even extends battery life 50% it is a bargain.

Very interested in hearing back about this. Bought a new phone for Dad so I am going to reuse his old nexus 5 as a second phone. Will try to pimp it out and the first thing I need is exactly this. Been researching on "larger batteries" (all fake lol) but I believe this is the next best thing.
Any news on this? Seem very interesting. Will also buy a new battery, but this will be better than the LG G2 battery mod.

Sorry... Forgot about this thread. The battery case worked fine although I didn't get to test it much as I sold the phone and case a couple weeks later to a guy in rough spot for next to nothing. He is still using it a few months later with no problems.
I got one of this and I rather use power bank to charge it
Cons:
Little to no protection on the phone, I have to cut a rubber case in order to use it
No pass-through charging. The case itself will NOT charge when your phone is in the case. At the end, you got 100% on your phone but 0% in the case, even you have already plugged in. So if you need to charge both devices, you have to take them apart and charge them seperately.
Slow charge rate, the case charges N5 slow when you are using it at the same time, so the juice perecentage will probably still drop, but slower.
Heat. This thing is warm or even hot when operating under heavy usage. With its build quality, I did worry about something bad could happen.
Comment:
It is not so good and the build quality is also average. But since it is the only battery case that we can buy after 3 years, it is still useful as a backup battery. Just don't use the phone heavily on the go when the case is chaging your phone. (That's why I switched back to power bank…)
