Hi,
Question 1 - Is there a way to put your own sms notification sounds on the Desire, the ones that are on the phone aren't very loud and the sound they make is to short.
Question 2 - Is there a way to make the Desire vibrate more ( as in 'harder' ) and for longer. When I am at work I have my phone set on vibrate, when it's in its case and in my pocket I cannot even feel it when I get a call or sms etc.
Regards, Chris.
Add a folder on the SD card. Media-audio-notifications. Put you're files in there and reboot.

Hi,
Sorry to sound thick but do I make a complete new folder called Media-audio-notifications (complete with the 'dashes' between each bit) straight onto my sd card?
Regards, Chris.
Yes, you should create the following folder on your SD CArd:
\Media\audio\notifications\ - and copy your sound files there
Or you can yous Ringdroid application to trim your sound files and save them either as notification, alarm or ringtone.
@CorruptedSanity - I've been using the "Receiving transmission" (heavy eastern European accent) sound file from Starcraft for a while now ;-)
Sorry, you first need to download a file explorer such as estrongs, and use that to create you're path.

you can just connect it to a pc as a drive and create the folders that way.
I have " master I have mail for you "...keeps me amused ...
Ringtone is Monty Python " sit on my face " ...... fab in work / meetings !!
How do you differentiate between notifications, so you can have different sounds for SMS received, missed call etc.
Actually I only want SMS/MMS received, I don't want sounds for any other notifications
Thanks
Eric

You still need to put them in the notifications folder. Then open yer messaging app, go to settings, then select the tone you want as an sms tone.

With regards to the Vibrate function, If you download handcent in the settings there is an option to customise the vibrate pattern with a few defaults to work with.
Hmm regarding this missing vibratefunction for incomeing sms:
I have the problem too but discovered that I had turned the vibratefunction off under message settings.
But the reason why I did this is that I don't want the phone to vibrate when it's not in vibrate-only-mode (not the normal and not the total silence no sound at all)
So as I see it there are 2 possible vibrate settings in Android 2.1 (hopefully there is a third you can tell me... ;-) )
1. No vibrations what so ever
2. Vibrations all the time - even when the phone is in the normal profile...
Isn't there a third - vibrate only in vibrate-profile...???
Please help me with this
It's either total vibration all the time or absolute silence...
Is there a way to set the Desire to ring notification sounds every 5 minutes until I unlock the display?
When I received a message it rings one time ...
Search for an app called "rings extended" in the android market, it wont open as an app but it changes the audio selection so you can open your sd card or music gallery when selecting a ringtone or sms alert.

I also need the third option. I am a long time Windows Mobile user and I am used to having vibration for all notifications when I turn on the vibrate mode. On my Desire, when I change my profile to vibrate, incoming calls vibrate but other sound notifications like sms and email is just silent.
I want all the notifications to vibrate when I change to vibrate profile. Is there an easy way to do this in Android?

Hi All,
I am posting this reluctantly after struggling for 2 months
If I change phone to vibrate, I never get any vibration notifications for text or calander reminders even after vibration being selected?
Can anybody please help?
Thanks
Anybody!!!
Do you have Vibration turned ON directly in both sms application and the calendar?
Or did you only change the phone profile to vibrate?
get a free app called sound manager and goto the virbation menu settings and make sure it is turned on in there. This fixed it for me
Gr8
The sound manager app solved the problem
Thanks guys

Yepp same problem I had, Froyo has fixed this by adding vibration option for SMS/e-mail/etc only in Vibrate mode
I have searched around and cant find an answer. the ringer on my pone is not working all the time. I keep getting missed calls while the pone is sitting next to me so I know its not sounding. I am on stock rooted. I do have advanced call blocker and alarm droid but have had them for a long time and never had a problem. I have frozen them to see if it helps but I dont get alot of calls and If I ask someone to call of course it wont do it. you know how that goes. I also have made sure the flip to silence is not checked and did toggle it to be sure. Would appreciate any input.
I will be sure to hit "thanks"

Try to go to settings, applications,,manage applications, all, settings, and clear data. That is going to force closed the settings apk maybe that fix your problem.

Last resort, perform a master reset.
Do you see a missed call message or just the VM? Are you using a default, built-in ringtone or something personalized?

I am actually using a custom ringtone. I have a "audio" folder that I use to replace the stock sounds. I never even thought of that but I dont see why it would work sometimes and not always. The text and every other notification sound works fine and always, its just the phone ringer that I am having problems with. I do see a missed call on the lock screen, and I checked to make sure I didnt have any blocking on any contacts. I have no special ringtone for any contacts, everything there is set to default. Do you think if I assign a special tone for certain contacts that would help? Ill give it a shot just to see. Thanks
i use ringdroid, and zedge
Try using rings extended, it lets you select any music file on your sd or phone as a ringtone

From the home screen hit menu>sounds>volume and see what the slider for Incoming Call is at hope that helps
I am facing a couple of issues that I can't find a solution to it, so I thought I share them with you hoping that you can help me solve them.
When I receive an email there comes a notification sound (which is ok ) but if I delete the same message from my laptop that I had just received, the notification sound once again appears. This happens everytime regardless if I receive or delete any messages.
When browsing with the installed browser or Delphin browser, when I want to return to the previous page, it brings me back to the top of that page and not to the place where I was reading that page. The topic I was reading could have been at the middle of that page and I want the browser to bring me back to the same place as I was.
I can't find the place to disable the notification sound, last time I did it was for couple of months ago, I guess it was in: Setting ->Cyanogenmode setting -> and Interface. I need to disable it as I sometimes receive emails in the middle of night and is driving me crazy.
thanks in advance
I dont think you can disable the notifications, but with cm you can set silent hours in wich ur phone will shut up.

You can disable the notification sound by going into Settings -> Sound -> Notification ringtone, and selecting silent (at the top).
Or go to Settings -> Sound -> Volume, uncheck use incoming call volume for notifications, and set notification volume to 0.

disabled the notification sound by choosing none ringtone.
anyone have an idea for solving two other issues?
Is there a way of turning the notifications sound and/or vibration off on certain apps, like games?
I know that you can turn off the notifications completely by going to the app info, but I still want to get notifications in the drop-down, but not the sound/vibration.
Anyone managed to do this?
Thanks in advance!
Well if the application has the option to change the notification sound then you can use a silent tone for that, not sure about the vibration though.
maybe a file explorer could allow you to silence said applications.
just my two cents.

Some apps don't have this option in them. I was thinking of something like iOS dose it's notifications (don't get me wrong... I don't like iOS.
)?

You need to give Messages (or whatever app you're using) permission to access Storage.
Go to Settings
scroll to and select Apps
scroll to and select Messages
