When I delete a text, it should really be deleted and not hidden away for somebody to find later. That is what's happening on my Tilt 2 phone (stock rom, wm6.5).
When using the "search phone" feature, it found every text I have ever deleted. I click on a message and it opens up. Afterwards, I can go to touch-flo messaging, click on all messages, and the initial screeen will be ipm.root with all my messages that were supposedly deleted months ago. If I click on ipm.root drop down tree at the top, the screen shows the normal email accounts and folders (inbox, draft, outbox, etc). The only way to get the ipm.root to display again is to do another "search phone" and open a message that was supposedly deleted, then go back to the touch-flo ->all messages screen. From there, I can truly select and delete all of them.
I've searched and can't find anything on this issue. Is there a fix to make sure that sms messages delete when you tell it to instead of hiding them. They can build up over time and take up memory space. It's annoying that delete really means hide on this phone.
I'm watching this thread with interest
same here! i supposedly deleted a bunch of sms text messages and through sktools search message files i found them and was able to read them!
I too would like to find a solution to this. One of the tweaking tools (I think it is Advanced Config Tools) has an option to set the max number of texts saved in the deleted folder. I set this to 0 so now I don't have to manually delete the files from that folder too (although the deleted files still go to the deleted folder and for some reason it irritatingly sometimes takes a while for the files to actually disappear from there). Now I find that the files are still taking up space somewhere else.
Anyone know how to stop this behavior?
Hummm...I just did a search using Search Phone and the only thing that came up were messages that had not yet been deleted.
I'm using a Verizon TP2 with MightyROM's latest official ROM (released 5-24-10).
Maybe this is just an issue on T-Mobile?
ps. I think I figured out why the texts sometimes don't disapear from the deleted folder right away with max allowed set to 0. I think you have to close out WinMo text (not just minimize it or close the Sense message screen) for them to go away.
The problem is not going to fix itself
Well, I was hoping that someone may have a fix for this by now. It's just not right for these messages to pile up in a hidden place, when I tell it to delete.
I guess it's not bothersome to most people.... since it's hidden.

they are not actually deleted because of the patriot act george w. bush passed...it is very sad...
After deleting from the inbox I will go to tools and empty the deleted folder. I've done searches and haven't been able to find them after that. I also Run Memmaid and that might purge them as well.
* first, install sms backup & restore.
* next, open app, select preferences, select Backup Folder then select External Storage.
* next, in preferences go to Backup Preferences, check Selected Conversations Only, then select “Select Conversations" to select whose text messages you want to save.
* The text messages backup pretty fast but if your phone does not give you enough time to backup all the messages you want, you can backup certain people's texts in one backup, then backup other people's texts in the next backup. It will save the backups to different folders (rather than over-write previous backup).
* on your phone, install sms backup & restore, your sd card and you are set to restore your text messages.

Hi all, XDA has been such a great help in improving my enjoyment with my phone!
Here is my question - using TouchFlo, if I select Messages, then click on All Messages, then change the folder to Deleted Items, I have a ton of old deleted text messages I would like to clear out. I can't seem to find a way to do it other than 1 at a time, which would take forever. Are there any other more expedient ways to clear this folder out? Even just a "Delete all" would be fine, I don't really want anything in there.
Also, is there a way for it to clear this folder upon exit or something?
I am wondering if I need a hack to enable some feature to delete these messages, as I don't see it. Otherwise the deleted messages just pile up forever!
Thanks for the help!
You can delete them by going to Menu>Tools>Empty DeletedItems (in the Windows Mobile messaging program).

Go to all messages then go to menu\tools\options\ then go to the storage tab then in the deleted items drop down menu select immediately. This will delete them for good when you delete them from the inbox.

If they are in your t-mobile contacts I think you have to log into your account via a pc and delete them. You can als hide them from your "contacts app" view if you go int contacts' pull up your menu and hit view. Then uncheck anything that you dont want to show up in your contacts.
Not sure if any of that helps, but hopefully it will.

I deleted them from online but I guess they loaded at some point before and now they won't come off even after hitting tmobile sync (and it being stuck on eternal sync). The view thing works but only within the contacts app. From the dialer the numbers still come up and from text messaging app they still come up..so frustrating I have people numbers coming up on the dialer that I don't use or want to see or be seen and I'm stuck with them..ridiculous.
Delete them from faves.

Go to contacts and press Menu. Select view and deselect T-Mobile. Temporary fix till you go online and hopefully sort it out with T-Mo website...
Thats been done too they still come up whenever you type it in the dialer and in the text app.. I deleted them from tmobile server checked on the tmobile to sync and still nothing, they remain. I also deleted all the data from every app that says tmobile on it in the stock app manager. Its just a bug or something, I thought someone would maybe know where there data is located on the phone or something.. Im sure Ill be fine if I wipe but its a bit ridiculous thats what it has to come to.
I had this problem. I had to go into Contacts and choose to view all the contacts I didn't want. Then I deleted all of them by pressing Menu -> Delete and choosing all of them.
Silly question, maybe, but are you sure they're from t-mobile's servers? Could they be on the SIM card?
One thing I found that helped me was to open the contacts list, hit menu > view, to see which contacts are saved where and how they're linked up. I then unlinked all the t-mobile contacts and deleted them manually. Then I turned off t-mobile sync. Finally, I went online and delted all the contacts from t-mobile's crappy servers. They really have a sorry mess of old and new websites crammed together over there and need to do something about their whole system.
Hi everyone,
Firstly, i HAVE searched the forums and found nothing of use.
So,
I've been exhanging quite alot of SMS over the period I've had my Desire, and now i decided to clean my phone up a bit, by deleting some of my sms messages, but when i press and hold on a thread then choose delete the whole thread, my phone simply freezes and nothing happens. I've rebooted my phone 5 times now and tried again and again, without luck.
Does anybody know how i could handel this diffrently or perhaps im doing something wrong?
Btw, the thread is about 1500 messages on this specific contact that i'm trying to delete.
Thanks in advance!
//Seb
I've got two suggestions for you...
Option 1
Open the Messaging application
"Menu" key > "Settings" > toggle on "Delete old messages" > tap "Text message limit" and set accordingly.
For example, if you set this value to 50, it will delete all messages older than the 50th most recent messages in each thread.
Option 2
Use a 3rd party application to mass delete your messages. Go to the Market an search for "purge sms". There a lot of choices.
Also you can try to wipe the item relative to sms/mms in titanium backup, which is instantaneous...BUT please make a backup first because I might be wrong and something else could be deleted as well
Sent from an ipho.../ NETWORK DOWN-PLEASE DON'T TOUCH THE PHONE
Thanks guys! I will try!
i also had this problem. the only way to delete my more that 2000 texts in a single thread was to decrease the "delete old messages" limit 50 or 100 mesages at a time (from the total amount of messages I had in that thread) every time I received or sent a message and the freeze was just half a minute (in order the phone to delete just this 50 or 100 more messages). it took me some time to decrease my texts to 200 but now text messages open faster. And I left the limit to 200 as I don't want to have this problem again. I didn't try any other applications so I don't know how well they work. but if i knew of them in advance i would possibly try them
I find this really frustrating. Sure, you can set the amount of how many SMS you want's to be saved, but you should be able to delete SMS as you want. To get a phone that freezes during this moment is kinda fail in my opinion.
I tested purge sms. Same **** there.. But atleast you see how many percentage it has removed
After I delete a thread in my messages the name or names start appearing at the bottom of course with no messages there but just their names .. I've cleared the app data in the app manager under settings.. I do not know what else to I do not want to delete my saved messages I even backed then up but it seems when I rstore them back the empty threads appear again what's going g on SGS3??

I've flashed mimicry 1.5 ROM. But it has this little bug. When set personal ringtone of a contact sometimes it plays on call, sometimes play default ringtone. I google it but can't find solution. I never had this problem with my stock ROM (2.3.3). Any ideas?
ive noticed this on various roms as well, it would be rather annoying if it were a bigger deal to me but i just stopped using ringtones allocated to one person. the fix would be take that sound from the sdcard and install it directly itno the system ringtones
easiest way may be a file explorer like root explorer, but you could use terminal or adb or various other methods as well

Okay, so here it is...
Same exact thing has happened to my wife's phone, but not mine. We even went to the store and tried a brand new phone and same thing! But...We just figured it out! Okay, so here we go...
Edit: If you are not a user of Google contacts, then do not do the merge described below because this will overwrite your phone contacts with your google contacts. Only do this step if all your Google contacts are up to date and include all contacts in your phone.
From within your computer, go to your Google contacts, the is a "My Contacts" label. At the bottom, there is an "Other" label. Somewhere in there are duplicates, so the phone doesn't know which to assign the cutom ringtone to. Go through and clean up all Google contacts, plus add the "My Contacts" to any contact that doesn't have it. Then delete any from the "other" list and any doubles in the contacts. Then, on your phone, open contacts and go to menu-more-settings-save new contacts to, and select Google. (Trust me on this one...PLASE DO THIS.) Then go to contacts, menu, and select Merge with Google. (You may lose contacts that you've put in your phone from your phone, but this is the only time this will happen.) From this point on, anything done in the Google contacts will instantly update in your phone and vise-versa, but more importantly, your ringtones should work when assigned to individual contacts.
If that doesn't work, let me know, there is one other thing to try. Good Luck!

It is important to now that this bug appear from time to time. Also i've tried to use app as contacts and phone replacement but unfortunately it using contact & contacts storage and it's a little bit useless
What i did so far and it doesn't work:
Formatted phone numbers without dashes and spaces
Tried to store contacts locally and to google contacts
Tried to convert all of my ringtones to the *.ogg for minimizing resource needed
Tried 3rd party app
I'm open for suggestions. From other thread i realize the problem may be is this little lag that appear from time to time
