delete large sms convos - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a good way to delete a large sms conversation?
I have a convo that is like 1200 messages. Using chompsms it just like errors out and stops responding then does nothing.
I tried this program called sms quick delete delete and it goes forever and then does nothing with the conversation and bugs out.
I tried handcent and it did pretty much the same thing as chomp.....
any tips?

why not use the stock messaging app?

stock messaging app takes forever also and locks up the phone more.
It finally deleted on chomp when i just hit delete and set it there for like 20 minutes lol. there has to be an easier way.

Can´t get text messages in my inbox

My inbox shows 6 messages, but once you clik to enter, it only shows 1K on the right side and nothing ever opens up, the rest of folders seem OK, even new ones. It is something that affects only SMS messages and that I could not repair by reinstalling the program.
Has anyone faced the same problem and found a solution? It is rather annoying when you are abroad, like I am now, not being able to read any of my text messages.
Thanks,
gonz
Slightly different I think, mine would show that I had new text messages but would not display them, the inbox would appear empty, I was using Sprite backup, and discovered that sometimes it would corrupt the mail database after a restore, so downloaded their cleanmail program.
http://spritesoftware.crmdesk.com/answer.aspx?id=141&back=browse.aspx#p17
It will all delete all email accounts, text messages and the MMS account but I don't use mms so not to bothered.
Thanks, will try, although it seems I will not be able to read some txt messages, but looks like the only option.
i never thought cleanmail is so useful.
after restoring from a hard reset, about 800+ messages got corrupt and showed up as 1kB messages that wouldnt ever open.
cleanmail trashed em all just like bubbles.
Thanks a lot! Once my text messages account disappered and it can only be fixed with hard reset. With this program i was able to restore from backup and fix the problem! Thanks again!
WHAT A USEFUL TIP
Hey! This cleanmail thing is fantastic!
WHAT A USEFUL TIP.
I don't know who I want to marry more - spritesoftware for coding the app or bluetba for giving the heads-up!

Slow Text Messaging

I'm using my G2 rooted with Cyanogen, and I just deleted all my messages in the daytime. However, I'm a heavy texter and rarely delete my texts, and at the end of the day my phone has like 300 messages and is slow as **** when it comes to responding.
Does anyone else have that same problem in their phone? I also have the iPhone 4 and its smooth as silk with about 20,000 texts in 4 months (once again, I'm a heavy texter). I'm thinking about letting go of this awesome device if I have to delete my texts every other hour.
go to the sms settings and have it auto delete after any amount you put. for me i got to delete after 75 messages per recipient. obviously it deletes the oldest text first.

[Q] SMS Thread Limit?

Is there a limit to how large a thread with a contact or total SMS limit between all contacts? I currently have almost 4,000 messages in 1 thread and they're all backed up, but I want to make sure I won't randomly start to not receive messages or have SMS force closing on me. Would anyone happen to know?
Don't quote me, but I believe about 4,999 messages (sent or received), as that is what I believe to be roughly the storage size in messaging. I'd double check through menu>settings>applications>manage applications and then check inside the messaging app. I believe the max size is 4,999kb which translates to 4,999 sms if each sms (not mms) is all 120 or 160 characters alloted. Not 100% sure, but I read something along that line.

That many messages is going to slow down your phone like nothing else. You wouldn't believe how much faster your phone will run if you just delete those texts.
You guys were definitely right. My phone was really starting to slow down when there were 3500+~ messages in that contact's thread. On top of the other 750~ or so messages my phone had, it was becoming really slow opening the messenger, receiving, and sending messages. I even had a few FC's. I went ahead and set a 3,000 limit for now and it's back to "normal" operation as far as I'm concerned, but I see what you were talking about with having more than 4,000 or so total messages causing a problem.

Phone doesnt always send txts right away

My phone doesnt always send txts right away, sometimes I will send 2 or 3 txts in a row and last one might send and other ones will say sending, I use verizon messaging app, restarting the phone or turning data on helps sometimes.

I don't have a fix for this but have the same issue and thought it was the app I used for texting, Contacts, excellent program now that I see it wasn't them causing the issue. It seems to have gotten somewhat better for me as they have updated there app every once in awhile.
I have recently tried using the Messaging+ from Verizon since they are supposed to work over WiFi... but I am finding that I am never getting notifications for some. I also have LG G Watch that isn't picking it up either. When I open Messaging+ there are several unread messages waiting for me.
I also dislike how it doesn't include the message in the notification, I just get "Joe Blow sent 1 new message".
I REALLY REALLY REALLY love the look and feel of "Hello SMS" for SMS but it works horrible for MMS. I can receive the MMS pictures but cannot send MMS pictures. When I do receive pictures, because I use a custom DPI, I only see a small corner of the image. I have to download, save, and open the picture up in Gallery. But because I usually chat with my GF using Hangouts and usually don't send pictures via texting, this typically is a non-issue for me. But the few times you need it, it is a pain.
If HelloSMS would get their act together with the MMS bugs, it would be very highly recommended. It is slim and pretty basic. But I love the style, notification dropdown shade, and simplisity.
There is another app that I like called Evolve. I could set it up similar to HelloSMS but for some reason I just didn't like it. It worked great.
Another one that I am looking at is HoverChat. It incorporates the Floating head bubbles similar to Facebook Messanger. Never tried it though.

You sent single SMS, network operator charge in double. Problem Solved.

I have Samsung galaxy S2 upgraded to 4.1.2 … Tests here apply to my machine, but you can be sure, they can be repeated on a lot of other phones. I can not be sure on which one.
When you have several SMS apps, if you sent SMS by one app, randomly one of the other apps sent same SMS again. Each app sent once… but phone sent in double, so network operator charge in double.
In table bellow in red I mark, where this issue is very likely. Example: You sent SMS with the stock ‘messaging’ app… then … these apps will potentially try to sent the SMS too… zero sms, chomp sms, go sms pro, kk sms, easy sms, messenger.
(The image will be added in some different time.)
It is likely, in different times, different programs to be activated. On more modern phones, downgraded to older android, it will be no odd; single SMS to be sent in triple, four times or more.
Usually, if you have bystander apps what sent SMS, they can try to be in service for you and turn on your 2G by themselves and promptly do them job. They no care if SMS created in other app. They just want to be in service to you. This is serious bug in most SMS apps, I know how to fix it, but let SMS apps developers contact me for details.
I notice odd cases. Here described.
Textra mark messages by other programs like sent. But they are not sent. The message sent by textra is invincible to other programs, before sent.
Inside the chomp program, messages sent over chomp are well… but other SMS apps see these messages like sent by the receiver. Some apps detect these messages like not sent, and it is unclear how they’ll send them. This research, I do it without to send SMS, because it is difficult to hunt this problem down to minimal details. Each time, different apps are activated. We are in multitask environment.
Go SMS pro import spam in the conversations. Textra filter this spam in separate conversation.
Next SMS is jealous. It do not love SMS composed in competition app. But SMS by Next are well accepted by these other apps. And they kindly can try to be in service.
Other apps see messages composed in Messenger like already sent.
Resume. SMS apps are not well designed to work cooperatively each with another.
Solution. Chose your favorite SMS app, only disable the stock SMS app, and leave single active SMS app in the phone.
Do you know better way to upgrade SMS functionality compared to replace the stock app with other one? ( Example: how to replace it with two apps? ) Let me know, in reply to this post.
Just now, chomp complained with special notification to me that it wasn’t able to sent the SMS composed in five other programs. All doubts are definitely gone. Once again: SMS apps are very friendly, industrious in care for your job, they do it in double. You compose in one… SMS sent by other, etc…
