Help, I cannot mount my SD card! adb recognizes the phone so its not usb bricked. My old phone htc hero can mount the same sd card without problems
tried with recovery too
Operating systems:
Ubuntu 10.4
Windows XP 32bit
If the device says your sdcard is corrupted and need formatting, it's just true: reformat your ext3 partition and you'll be on track again (obviuosly if the card isn't broken at all).
That's the price to pay to cheap crapcards, like the one I have in it...

OK, so my Desire was working ok, but I decided it was time for a clear out, and a fresh partition of my SD Card, along with a move to Firerat's script for A2SD.
I booted my computer into Ubuntu and made a backup of my SD Card - no problems there. However, I noticed that the EXT partition had not mounted in Ubuntu, so I figured that it must be to do with being booted into Android, and so I booted into Recovery and mounted SD card there - same problem.
It was not until I physically put my SD card into a card reader and inserted it into my laptop, could I access the EXT partition. So I went ahead and copied my EXT partition, no probs.
I then (for some reason) decided to put my SD card back into my phone, mount SD Card in Ubuntu and try and re-partition the SD card in GParted. It kept, however giving me an error message when I tried to partition the card. GParted crashed and would not restart until I re-booted the system. The same thing happened after a reboot.
I had to go into Windows and format the Card as FAT32, and then remove the card from the phone, put it in the card reader, reboot into Ubuntu and then partition the card via GParted.
Now, I have a 6Gb FAT32 partition and a 1GB EXT2 partition on my SD Card and all is (kinda) working swimmingly. Still when I access my SD card (via USB cable, and HTC Desire) in Ubuntu, the EXT partition does not mount (it DEFINITELY used to), and when I view it in GParted it shows the entire disk as "unallocated"?
Is my phone somehow "corrupting" my SD card partition tables? The phone seems to read it ok?
Any ideas would be welcome?
Thanks
Stu

Hello.
I have bought a new SD Card (kingston 16gb Class4).
I had a lot of problems with ext3 make. By Gparted it have errors.
I have readed this topic.
Can I repair my SD Card?
Sry for my english.
How are you connecting the card? Via a card reader or still in the phone? If it's still in the phone make sure you are in recovery and not booted in to android.
I made it by card reader. Formatting and partitioning by recovery - errors.
Have you tried erasing all the partitions and creating them again? What happens if you click the 'Repair' button?
I've always done my partitioning with my card in the phone, connected to my PC while in recovery and used Minitool Partition Wizard for Windows (this software was suggested in a thread I read a while ago) and never had any problems.
There is also the possibility of the card having a hardware problem, so you might need to swap it under warranty.
yes, first i have erased all partitions (deleted)
On repair ext - error, fat32 works fine.
first make an extended partition for your fat32 and inside that a primary fat32.
The unallocated space make it ext3

shouldn't both partitions be primary (no extended ones)?
erase everything 1st keep it unformatted then create fat32 primary then ext primary (optional linuxs swap) this is what i have done when installed miui rom data2ext
i suggest you dont use that card reader try through the cell....
I have tried a lot of methods - ext still no works.

Where did you get the card from?
Stupid question but two of my friends bought cheap (fake) cards from eBay and both had problems with them, either the card kept losing data or they go errors loading from the card due to the poor quality. In which case you need to spend a little more and get a proper card from amazon on a high street retailer.
If not then as suggested use try formatting and partitioning the card through the recovery on your phone, most of the up-to-date recoveries can do this and it's the easiest way to get the card ass needed for a2sd etc. if it still doesn't work then take the card back it's probably faulty.
I bought this card too and even though I had no issues formatting the card I do have speed issues with it. I've been in contact with Kingston and they're looking into it. My writing speed is 1.6Mb/s....
But now a tip for you, I couldn't use Gparted since it's Live CD wont start my monitors. So I downloaded Easeus Partition Master. Very easy to use and it worked perfect.
Start with your Fat32 partition and then your Ext partition.
You can find the program here: http://download.cnet.com/Easeus-Partition-Master-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html

I've just bought the new SD card 32 GB and tried to partition but when mount on the phone, there is error " SD card damged, need to reformat again"
After format the card by using the phone. The card can be used. Is there problem with the card or my ROM's phone?
I'm using Zte v9 mytap Optus and it has been rooted
How do you partition the SD-Card? On your PC? - Which filesystem have you choose? (ext3?)
Kotake
Yeah. I did it on PC using mini tool partition with win XP. I don't have card reader. Just plug the phone to PC and mount the card. The card was formated fat32 and ext2
No one cannot help me ?
Try Gparted.
Remember that the first partition needs to be FAT32, followed by your smaller ext partition.
sd died, i thick that her life finish...

If you can use the card after you formated with your phone, everything is okay.
The card just came unformatted or in the wrong format, it is not deffective.
Hello,
My rom(iNsertCoin) has crashed today for an unknown reason, and entered nonstop bootloops.
I have tried to reflash the iNsertcoin zip but it didnt work for some reason, also it told me it cant mount the sd-ext (I am using ra-desire 2.0.0).
I have turned the phone off, and when I returned home I put my A-Data 16gb Class 10 Microsd (which was bought from newegg, so it cant be fake) in my card reader, and I started to partition the card like this: 1gb ext4, 300mb ext4, 100mb linux-swap, rest to fat32.
all of a sudden the program just crashed and from that point it tells me the card has 1gb unallocated space, in windows 7 it keeps asking me to format the card but it never succeeds, and it says the card uses raw file system.
I have tried chkdsk, and it told me its not available for raw filesystems.
I have also tried a number of programs, the HP partition tool, SDFormatter, nothing really helped.
Also, I tried using diskpart -> clean all command on the card but it keeps giving me weird error messages but usually it tells me its not ready, and it looks like the card is not responsive, although the pc recongized it.
I have tried doing this from a number of computers, another W7 computer and a XP computer. nothing worked.
I cant allocate space in gparted, and it tells me to create a partition table, and when I try that, the program just hangs.
Oh yeah, and I tried to put the microsd card into an adapter and put it in my dad's dslr and tried to format it, but there was an error.
Have I killed my microsd card? :/

try using androids built in sd card format tool. settigns, sd card storage, unmount sd card, then format. try flashing clockworkmod recovery and using there builtin format ooptions,, if still no go, u mayb have friemd your sd card. by the way, u sjould always use your fat32 as your 1st rive and never 2nd or 3rd. im quite sure u makes your pc read the drives in the order u created them.

Hello,
There seams to be a provlem with my SD card. I have an imation 16GB class 10 card. I bought it from ebay (not a really chip one) and i am a bit ambigious about its reliability.
It happened me twice to connect either the phone as a USB mass storage or the card directly from a card reader to my PC and afterwards my SD cannot be recognized by the phone. Whatever i try the android does not recognize it ... and i have to repartition it.
The strange thing is that the CWM recovery recognised the corrupted FAT32 partition when this occured. I could even restore a nandroid backup which was installed without problem except from the "Empty SD slot" message ...
Also my windows recognize the FAT32 partition.
Do you think that this is a provlem of my SD (bad sectors maybe or corrupted partition tables) or a bug on the drivers of the ROM that mount the card?
Have you tried doing a slow format and run a diskcheck on it?
Also, it might be your system corrupting it if you remove it without dismounting it first.
