I have messed and done ok with other phones when it came to unlocking and stuff but i am kind of lost with the htc touch pro 2 custom rom guide. Is there anyone that can give me a quick step by step and what the latest essentials files to install. Thank you very much.

Depending on the rom the Suggested radio will be cooked into the rom. Radio's are a best for you case. Read the Radio thread found HERE.
ok ok 1 more question and ill leave you alone hehe
If i want to change roms, i just repeat the process correct?
Or can i just pick a rom since i did the hardspl and just install a new one?

Once you Hard SPL you are free to flash any rom you like without having to do the SPL again. Just make sure you get the right SPL for your version. GSM or CDMA
hey i wanted to ask you about those other google roms
How do they run on the htc touch pro 2?, i had a mytouch and if they ran as smooth as that, i would try it.

I have found that flashing a stock rom then flashing a cooked rom seems to make my device a bit more stable. If I don't flash a stock rom before my next cooked one, I have been hit and miss with bugs...
Or I may just be superstitious, and this is all just part of my OCD
Hey guys,
Trying to figure out whats going to be best for me. Im currently on 2.1, which is virgin branded (i presume, as thats what the boot logo is after the htc logo). Now, Im tempted to root it and upgrade to 2.2 froyo (as there are now rooted roms).
My Hboot is 0.75.0000 and radio is 4.05.00.11 but strangely at the top it says
" BRAVO UNKNOWN SHIP S-ON " which is where i would assume it says o2, Orange etc. Will i need to goldkey an sd card still, or is this rom a WWE stock htc rom?
Also, could anyone hold my hand through the whole root-install new ROM process? I've read through the posts on here, and although I am not exactly computer illiterate, it does seem a little daunting, and as this Desire cost me £500 sim free(from CEX) when it came out, I'm a little scared of bricking it, although it is insured .....
Last question is, with the 2.2 Rooted Froyo releases that are currently out, which is best? I want all the latest official features (wifi n, wifi tether, 720p etc) but a quick running phone with nice subtle extras.
Cheers guys, sorry for being a bit of a noob here, but I've ended up reading myself into confusion

Welcome.
The Short answer is ; if you don't feel comfortable then don't do the rooting process. It has been simplified significantly most recently but things still can go wrong. If you can wait the best option for you is to wait until your carrier releases an update. Still not foolproof but less likely to get you in hot water.
The Long answer is that there are plenty of guides around both here and at Modaco. If you do get in trouble I guess you can ask on the forum.
Good Luck
Hi all,
So I'm on O2 UK with a branded (and I assume locked) Desire.
HBOOT: 0.80
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Rom version: 1.20.207.3
Bottom line is, I want to root before O2 push out their 2.2 update which will inevitably increase my HBOOT version. I'm a actually a software developer by trade, but I'm scared and want to take this whole rooting process slowly.
I've already created a goldcard but I've also set up my PC ready for the Unrevoked method, so I'll probably end up using that. So my main question is:
- Once I've rooted with unrevoked, do I HAVE to install a custom ROM that very minute or can I simply reboot my phone and use the stock ROM until I feel I'm ready to reflash?
Thank you! (my first post, be gentle please!)
-L
... delete
Good evening lodger. I was in the same place s you, o2, new desire and first time boot.
I used the unrevoked method, it took 5 mins and have not needed a gold card.
I have flashed another ROM straight away however my phone re booted in to the original Rom and I could continue to use it with the original o2 Rom but just with root access.
Hope this is of some help.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Thank you for the quick replies!
So please correct me if my understanding is wrong, I run the unrevoked process and I get a new recovery rom that lets me perform nandroid backups and flash custom roms but nothing more (yet)?
So if I were to just take a nandroid backup at this point and boot the phone normally, I would see no difference until I actually flashed a custom rom with root access?
I'm actually unsure as to whether the phone is actually locked as I've been with O2 for a looooong time and never had a locked phone from them and unfortunately I don't have another sim card to try in it. The only branding is the O2 boot screen, nothing else. So if anyone could confirm the thing about needing an unlock code that would be great.
Sorry for all of the questions, I'd just like to understand the process a little better before applying it to my pride and joy

As of unrevoked version 3.0 it will root your desire and install a custom recovery.
So you'll have a stock Rom that's rooted, then you can nandroid backup and install a custom Rom when ever you want.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I can confirm the first reply you got was wrong. Unrevoked is the easiest and best method to use. It WILL root your phone as well as install a custom recovery. You can then continue to use the stock rom with the benefits of root.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
You won't require an unlock code for an o2 branded phone.
O2 phones are normally locked, but iirc you can use Orange sim cards in there too.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
The only people who need an unlock code are Orange users.
As for unrEVOked, it will give you root. The handset will be perfectly usable as soon as unrEVOked is finished. You can then choose to stay as you are or play with all the roms in the dev forum.
Personally I'd jump straight into the dev section and download like a geek on speed
Thank you everyone. You've helped clarify thing no-end and given me the confidence to go ahead and join you all in root land Ok, one last round of questions:
So once I'm rooted, I can jump straight onto the market and download titanium backup and get all my stuff backed up, then I'm pretty much good to go right? (I'll feel a LOT happier once I have a backup!)
Any recommendations as to which rom I should go with first? There are a LOT out there and as a newbie to all of this, sifting through them is a tad daunting.
What's the deal with radio updates? Is there anything I should be aware of when applying them? Should they be applied first, before the OS rom or the other way around?
Having already created a goldcard, is it worth hanging onto it? I hear they do come in handy.
Again, sorry for all the questions but I figure it's best to ask them now rather than get stuck further down the line.
Thanks again
-L
Update: I'm rooted! nandroid backup is running now! Phew!
Thank you again everyone!

It depends what your looking for in a rom. If you want froyo with sense you could try ones by pays, or the leedroid one. If you want plain android, I'd go for defrost by richard trip, or opendesire by adamg.
You will need the latest radio for the new froyo roms for stability and to ensure no echo during calls. The radio is the baseband that you see listed in about phone. It will also increase your wifi and mobile network strength.
When flashing the radio your phone will reboot twice. It is extremely important that you do not interrupt the flashing process and if it looks like it's frozen or whatever, just leave it, and be patient. The radio flash is perfectly safe, but if you do interrupt it you will have an unrecoverable brick!
Titanium will work as soon as you have root, I'd get the paid version if you have a lot of apps, as the free version requires you to confirm each app install one by one, paid version is fully automatic.
Finally, if you want to put your apps to sd card, then the froyo one is rubbish! Most if not all the custom roms use oldschool a2sd which is far better but requires an ext3 partition to be made on your card. To make the ext3 partition use either the custom recovery you have from unrEVOked or download rom manager from the market. The process of creating the partition will ddelete your sd card though so take a backup if needed.
Hope this helps you a bit, and good luck. Once you have tried a few roms you will love it

This is wrong, Orange users must use a compatable radio meaning there's no need to unlock.
As for you, if your phone is locked then you will need to flash a compatable radio like orange users. I'm not sure which radio versions o2 uses so it may be worth googling or checking which radio your running. In future when flashing a custom firmware use one that doesn't have a radio file bundled with it.

Unless something has changed you are incorrect. Any radio updated away from the stock one locked orange handsets. No other networks are affected.
All froyo roms require the latest radio. This is not optional.
Something has changed because I have a locked orange desire, with the latest radio running the latest open desire firmware and have not had a sim lock message.
I wouldn't of said what I did if I wasn't sure
Best custom rom is neophyte 1.6 if you want sense froyo
Well I guess the only way to find out will be to pop a different sim in and see what happens. I haven't yet seen anyone with an O2 branded phone with problems flashing to froyo on my forum travels, but I guess its worth finding out for sure. I'm prepared to pay for an unlock code if need be.
So would I be better off using clockworkmod to flash to 2.2 or Rom manager? I assume I have the choice now?
I've taken a titanium backup so now all I have to do is put the radio and os roms on the root of my SD card, flash, *pray* then restore my apps after it reboots?
Thank you again to all. I wouldn't have done any of this if it wasn't for you guys taking the time to help me understand this whole process. I prefer to know more than just "Follow these steps and this happens".
-L
Well I finally grew a pair and flashed neophyte 1.6 and i'm proper impressed! Thank you to everyone again for your help and advice.
For the record, I didn't need an unlock code. I just flashed the latest radio and rom straight after each other in clockwork and rebooted. That first boot is a loooong scary one but it was all good in the end
Thanks everyone!

It was by far the scariest thing I've done this year!
Only thing I seem to be having a problem with is Juice Defender + Ultimate Juice (if anyone uses it?). When Juice Defender disables mobile data depending e.g. when the screen is locked, it keeps coming back on by itself which just adds to the battery drain. I've scoured setting after setting in case there's something forcing mobile data back on after JD disables it but found nothing. This used to work perfectly before I switched roms and it's kinda frustrating.
I'll probably have to try a couple of roms until I find one that works well with all my apps.
No, UnrEVOked doesn't work with a HBOOT > 0.80. From what I've read, there is a way to downgrade your HBOOT to 0.80 but with very mixed success rates.
Hi everyone!
I have just recently decided to root my Desire HD.
So I used jkoljo's awesome guide to downgrade, then perm root with VISIONary, then jkoljo's One click Radio S-OFF tool. As expected everything went very smooth and I now have root, Radio S-OFF and CM7.1.0 Stable installed!
Now here's my main question: Should I flash my Radio?
I'm currently running 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M which I believe came with the stock rom which I downgraded to. Prior to rooting/flashing I had 12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2 running on Gingerbread 2.3.3 with Vodafone AU branding and my carrier is currently also Vodafone AU.
If I was to flash my Radio then I would probably return to 12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M if possible. If I'm correct, I believe that I would also need ENG S-OFF which shouldn't be too hard to achieve, yet again thanks to jkoljo's One click ENG S-OFF. Just for the record I haven't attempted this yet.
All the Radio flashing guides seem very straight forward but they all have very large red text warning me that flashing Radio is a risky business. So as a complete newbie at flashing and what not I'm kind of reluctant to attempt this, I don't exactly what an expensive paper weight, I mean who does?
So thanks in advance for any advice I can get!
Cheers,
Kevin
I think You should flash a newest radio version, bacause You can get a better battery
consumption, signal and faster GPS fix. The HTC Desire HD Radio Thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295. To flash a radio You need jkoljo's tool One click ENG S-OFF.
Flashing radio is a risky operation, but if You succesfully rooted Your DHD, You'll
succsesfully flash a radio, here's a guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896597.
Also remember to flash a matching Radio Interface Libraries. When Matching radio and
RIL You'll get signal stability and better battery consumption.
Awesome, thanks for the reply and clarifying the uses of an RIL. I'm on CM7.1.0 stable at the moment, does that support RIL? I've read that only nightly builds support it at the moment. Maybe I should wait?
As far as i know, RIL's are only for sense based ROM's.
Awesome, I guess I'll just flash my Radio without the RIL since I'm on CM7. My battery is quite terrible at the moment running on 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M. It went from 100% to 66% battery within 6 hours from just WiFi and general usage. You think this is caused by the Radio?
I think it's quite heavy consumption. It can be a radio or some application is draining a battery. You should try a newer radio version. Remember to give it few days for a settle in and check results. Try also find out if there is a recommended radio version for Your ROM.
Hey, thanks again for your thoughts. So I've just been seeing how the battery settles with a few days of usage and it seems to be pretty much the same I guess. On idle it seems pretty good but when actually being used it drains quite a bit. Does the Kernel have much effect on the batter? From what I've heard, WiFi is controlled by the Kernel am I right? I still have no idea how the kernel would change things though and how it would improve the usage of the device. What exactly does it do? Any input would be great!
Cheers!

hi, i was in exactly your position not too long ago, very worried about flashing a radio because of all of the warnings.
So have you flashed a new one yet? If you haven't, read through everything a couple of times, then read it again, and then maybe one more time, and then flash a new radio. I think that's a good starting point to see if the battery life improves, i certainly found an improvement going from the 26.03.02.26 one that you mentioned to the 26.09.04.11
after doing that, there are lots of battery saving tips on this forum that you could try to see if you get even more out of the battery.
The kernel is the bridge between applications and the actual data processing done at the hardware level (i stole that from wikipedia)
so it can have an effect on battery life too, and flashing a new kernel wouldn't be a bad idea. but again, have a look in to it by reading through this forum.
lastly, the RIL is the interface between radio and phone. CM7.1 has the 0018G RIL included already. This will work fine with the newest radios, so you don't have to change anything. There are different RIL's for Sense-based roms and CM7-based roms, so again don't worry about trying to change RILs unless you read up on it.
sorry for the essay but i hope that's helped!
Thanks for the reply! No I haven't flashed the Radio yet. I'll flash it sometime this weekend when I have time. The guides seems pretty straight forward, it seems like the only important part is making sure the Radio is not corrupted which can be done with a simple md5 check am I correct? In conjunction to that of course is ENG S-OFF which is simple enough using the one-click tools from jkoljo. I'm just going to flash it with 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 which is what I had before root and it wasn't too shabby plus it's also recommended.
Anything else major that I have to do before flashing Radio?
yep, always check MD5
you've covered it i think, ENG S-OFF first, and make sure you follow the manual to the letter and everything should hopefully go ok.
the guide i used was the same that cwibel posted above, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896597
not sure if you know this already but after running the one-click tool double check it worked by booting in to bootloader and making sure it says ACE PVT ENG S-OFF at the top, not ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF
good luck with it and enjoy your rooted phone! but be warned, this flashing and modding business can get very addictive...
Haha yes I can see where you're coming from. CM7 is so much better than the stock Sense as I was so sick of it. Plus it's packed full of features which stock will never get.
So I just had a quick read of the CM7 post on xda and it says:
Battery drain issue
Desire HD only: Older Radio have know issue which drain faster on asleep
26.04.02.17 is the safest
newer version work too but prevent routing and can't be downgraded: make sure to have radio s-off before flashing newer version
What does it mean by routing and unable to downgrade? I thought that by having ENG S-OFF you could flash whichever Radio you wish. Or does one have to flash to stock using PD98IMG.zip method and thus returning to the older Radio and then reflash? Sorry for all the questions but I'm a bit confused.
Oh and thanks for the tip for checking ENG S-OFF, totally didn't know that.
Cheers!
wait until you have a look at some CM7 mods like the ones in my signature. i went a bit crazy for a few days there flashing all of them
i'm not sure what that means sorry. to be honest i haven't tried "downgrading" my radio, again i'm not sure what that even means, i thought you could just flash between different types without an issue. I'm happy to be enlightened on this by someone with a bit more knowledge!
The thing with radios though is that they're different for everyone in different locations, so honestly i would go for the one that came shipped with your phone. Vodafone seemed to think it was a good one so it's probably the best for our location. And it worked without any issues for me when i was using CM7.1.0. But it's up to you of course!
Beautiful! Just the answer I was looking for! I just needed to know whether it would work well with CM 7.1.
I don't exactly see a reason why I would want to downgrade Radio anyway, though just for reference I stumbled across this particular post where cocchiararo states that:
"it changes only if you downgrade using the PD98MIG.zip or the official method for isntalling.
if you do it using CWM, radios stays."
So in an event I would want to downgrade I guess that's how! I guess it also makes sense that everyone also recommends having Radio S-OFF also to flash back to the Stock.
Thank you so much for your help! Will try flashing it this weekend.
Cheers!
EDIT: I gave in and made some time to flash the Radio. Everything worked perfectly! Now I'm back to my good old 12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2. Thanks for all the help once again! Both cwibel and maatsby!
No worries mate! I'm glad it worked out well for you. Give the radio a chance to settle in before you decide if it's made a significant difference to battery life
And thanks for the link to that post, that's good to know.
I see it's already started, up til 1am flashing and posting on xda hey... you're doomed!
So after about two days of constant usage I have seen that the radio obviously made a big difference in battery life! My battery graph is a lot more consistent than it was before. Very awesome!
Can you give me an answer for that one should flash a Ril or not?

which rom are you using? you can check to see which RIL is included in your rom by typing this in to terminal emulator:
Code:
su
getprop gsm.version.ril-impl
and then from there you can google to see if that RIL is appropriate for the radio you're using. if it is, don't worry about flashing a RIL unless you're willing to experiment with a few of them to see for yourself which one works best for your phone and your location

Thanks, I'll have a look at it!
Yeah, compare to my old version Radio, battery fast drain even after 10 hour (normal use). Now is much better battery life for new version.
Greetings!
Thanks for stoppin' in. Hate to clutter the posts, but all my browsing/searching through the site thus far has lead me to older links that don't seem to answer my questions.
My history with my HTC Droid Incredible has always been a mix of positive and negative. One thing I've always been plagued by is a hit-or-miss experience with my call signal and messages.
Details:
-Incoming calls don't ring and go straight to voicemail (I use google voice).
-Many calls are plagued by static or generally poor signal.
-Text and image messages are often not received, or when they are, they often arrive hours after the fact (even the next day).
I've been told that flashing a ROM to a rooted device may include flashing the radio and that each ROM may include its own copy of a radio version. Is this true?
Is flashing the radio typically part of the ROM?
What version of the radio is considered best or most efficient for a VZW HTC Droid Incredible currently?
Is it worthwhile to flash the radio separately?
I'm currently on the beta ICS Miui rom and running smoothly aside from a small handful of buggy behaviors. I've seen these issues on stock as well as Cyanogen 7 and other MIUI ROMs. This is also my second (or third?) Incredible, having had it replaced under Warranty in the past and have typically always had some issues of this kind. Typically, I've just considered some of it to be part of the luck of the draw when using a cell phone.
Anywhos, thanks for the help, folks! If you need further details, please feel free to ask.
No custom roms come with radios that i have ever seen.
Flashing a raido may help your situation and it may not. As to which radio, it is really a matter of which one works best for you.
Here is a page with a bunch of radios that are all compatible with the incredible, even the ones labeled evo. http://dinc.does-it.net/radios
I go with the 07.07 radio (GB update version) it works fine, that or the newest Evo radio. 08.08 or 12.19. I live in a splotchy signal area and from playing with it, it seems the newest ones work best for me.
Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the suggestions and input - I'll look into it as soon as I have a chance to get to a computer and such.
Looks like I need to re-flash my ROM as it is, given the alpha of Miui ICS I've been using isn't behaving very dependably at this time.
After I figure out a way to back things up and actually load into recovery (another mysterious issue has recently cropped up where I cannot get past HBOOT), I'll get a fresh ROM done and try another radio.
Anything I should be aware of regarding the radio with consideration to the process or eventually returning to stock if needed?
Kudos!
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA
General Update:
I tried a number of different solutions to my recently developed issue of being unable to boot recovery. I could get into HBOOT, but every time I tried selecting Recovery, it would default into another reboot of HBOOT. ROM Manager hasn't been any assistance either, as directing it to load into Recovery only brings up HBOOT.
On a whim, I decided to go ahead and try re-flashing Recovery (first option in ROM Manager), despite it showing that it was updated to the latest edition. I then attempted to reboot into Recovery right after and ...drum roll... it worked! Go figure. -_-;; ah well! Figured the suggestion of re-flashing the Recovery might help others looking for a solution.
I'm going to go ahead and see about wiping and flashing a new, stable ROM and then I'll jump into the radio suggestions above.
Thanks again!

I'm looking at the link provided by the other person above and seeing interesting naming patterns. IIRC I'm currently on the 2.15.00.07.28.
Just want to make-sure I'm reading this right - is 2.15.10.07.07 newer than 2.15.00.11.19? I would guess so, plus I'm gathering that it was the version you suggested.
Further, what are the effects of using an EVO radio? Sorry for being such a noob, but I'm honestly curious!

Nothing wrong with using an evo radio. I use the 07.28 myself but its because it works best in my area.

Correct, 07.07 is newer than 11.19 radio. 11.19 was released in November of 2010, 07.07 was in July of 2011.
Thanks! Learn something new everyday.
I completed flashing the radio! Yay.
Didn't realize at first that it needed to be flashed via HBOOT (though I should've assumed such based on the name), rather than Recovery, but got it taken care of w/o incident.
Immediately, I've seen an increase in signal strength (max bands), and received a text msg that would've been sent earlier this morning. I'm looking forward to seeing further improvements!
Thanks everyone for your assistance.
i use the evo 08.08 radio and it works like a charm...i tried all the radios but i found this one works the best!
How are you guys flashing these radios to your incredible phone? I kept trying by booting into HBoot and renaming the radios to PB31IMG.ZIP but it won't flash it, because the Security mode is ON S-ON. I have the OTA GB update with 07.07 but I can't seem to turn S OFF

You must have s-off to flash radios. One question, what is your hboot version? To attain s-off for:
.92 then follow this guide here
OR
1.02 then follow this guide here
The only experience I have and can reliably speak on is installing radios while s-off AND having hboot .92. I can't speak to the success rate of installing a radio with hboot 1.02, it's entirely different and unfamiliar to me.
I recently started using the 12.19 evo radio and it is much better regular signal wise although somehow 3g seems spottier
