I'm a big fan of Brando screen protectors. Unfortunately, they have nothing specifically for the Desire yet. Does anyone know if the protector for the Nexus One will fit the Desire? As HTC make both, is it the same screen?
I doubt it because the nexus one has touch buttons at the bottom of the screen which a protector would probably cover.
Well, I got my DuraSec screen protector today. Not as good as Brando in my opinion but a good stopgap. Two days from Germany - not bad.
NOW WHERE IS MY PHONE?? Looks like it will be another 12 days!
Didnt you order it from tmobile? or going to o2 with it?
Im also interested in screen protectors... nothing came in the box. And theres not even a pouch for it... Kind of worryed about taking it outside the house untill its safe
I guess it would be a few months before leather cases come out for it?
Or do the nexus cases work fine?
Someone told me this place http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php/2803/htc-desire-screen-protector
I am considering buying it from there.
I'm buying my phone from Handtec so I have to wait. I did ask if they knew whether they would get the screen protectors at the sme time but they said they had no information from HTC. The HTC screen protectors for the HD2 came out some time after the phone and reports were not very good.
DursSec are one of the very few quality ones already available.

Can you tell me the pluses and minuses of your screen protectors?
I've also ordered a cheap £4.99 double-pack if the HTC jobbies from Play, but I'm fully prepared to buy something else if they are too friction-y, or don't apply/fit properly.

The plus of the screen protectors are self explanatory. They will keep your screen as immaculate as possible, while still retaining full functionality (but you knew that already)
I'm hoping that as the ones from Play are the official HTC ones, they should be perfect for the job.
I'll let you know as soon as i get mine.

I too have ordered the ones of play.com, they do look to be the official HTC ones, as they are sold at the HTC accessory shop for about £7.99, play.com usually cheaper.
Screen protecter would add that peace of mind tbh, atm i'm paranoid that i'll damage the screen (which itself can damage the screen ironically) - ie, dirty fingers, same pocket with keyes, etc - more chance of haveing a nice screen.
stopgap measure hd2 screen protector cut down to fit
I am worried too. I refuse to put it in my pocket! i put it back in the box when i am not using it lol

If it's just a pocket lol you'll be 100% fine. Isn't it a glass screen neway? WOuld have to be a pretty harsh scratch. I'm sure I won't be buying a screen protector for this phone. I think i'll just buy a pouch for it and shall all be good!

Use a clean microfiber cloth
Screen protector from Amazon UK (not tried it myself):

So which is better?
Play.com ones or Handtec ones?
What's the go with reducing sensitivity with the capacitive screens? I know with resistive anything over the top of the screen reduced sensitivity. I'm thinking of just getting a plastic case that slightly sticks out on the sides, meaning that if it was dropped on the ground, the screen won't touch the ground and only the edges of the case. Worked well for my Iphone.

I had a screen protector on my G1 and it didn't reduce sensitivity at all.

Confirmed as glass, but with NO oleophobic coating (which i'm sure i read somewhere that it would have it!!)
Oh well, screen protector double pack from that well known Jersey company for 4.99 inc free delivery. They get them in on Monday, here by Tues??

They usually take a couple of days to deliver. I'm just about to order them, hope i don't get the screen scratched.
If you use screen protector, how about the responsiveness? Because it is capacitive screen, it suppose to touch your finger?
If it's glass, why bother with a screen protector. I've been using an iPhone for ages with a glass screen, and only have it in a silicon case with no screen protection. Not a mark on the screen yet. Only way you will scratch it is with a diamond ring or similar IMO.
That's what I thought ... But probably the same like me, we are used to WM resistive screen and first thing first would be put a screen protection for new phone.
I cannot imagine my finger would be able to scratch the glass screen. Probably it can happen when we are not careful or drop the phone, it could break though.
And I hate if it will be less responsive because of the screen protection.
However, I remembered this article:
http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/HTC...Nexus-One-not-for-pocket-article-a_10034.html
Beware to not put in tight pocket!

I bought 2 htc protectors for my hd2.. Used them for a whole day then they came off.. She been naked ever since.. Then again I am extra careful with with it and clean it thoroughly each day with a microfiber cloth and use a new cloth each week... lol Wish I never put one on my 3gs screen now.. How ever the back on the 3gs is another matter and defo needs rear protection. My desire will be going naked as well.

I bought the screen protector package from tmobile. Hated them and ripped them off.
Bought a Clear Freak. Not bad. Not great either.
My biggest problem is that I bought this phone, out of contract for $500 because it has this amazing screen. So I want to protect it so it continues to look amazing, but in doing so I make it look like total ****. So it is a self defeating endeavor. It is a great paradox. How do I protect the screen and make it look amazing?
In the past I have used Seidio inward facing cases. That protects from most accidental damage and a micro fiber cloth to clean dust and fingerprints a couple of times per day.
I really just feel like using a screen protector on this AWESOME screen is blasphemy. I just tore off the clear freak while writing this, the screen looks 10x better without it. Using a screen protector on this phone is very similar to just leaving it in the box, or just using an inferior screen.
Basically I didn't buy a $500 phone with the most awesome screen on the market so that I could slap a piece of plastic on it and make it look worse than an old G1 screen.
What are your thoughts?
I use the RealLook screen protector and it is hard to even tell that it is on there.

So true, so true...
Does realook collect dust around the edges of the screen. That is the main reason I took the gadget guard off.
I used the clearfreak and I really can't tell much of a difference. I spent a good fifteen minutes getting it perfect, though.
I have used a couple of different screen protectors and was about to buy the reallook this morning on amazon because I just don't dig the clear freak. It does look invisible but you can tell a huge different in the crispness of the screen with it on there. I believe that is going to be the case no matter what. So I have made decided to go bareback and just hope that I can keep it scratch free!
I tried the T-Mobile and Realook screen protectors. I've given up. I just don't like screen protectors.
The T-Mobile screen protectors are horrible, the matte finish degrades the screen, had them and got rid of them.
I'm now using the reallook and if applied correctly, you can't tell it's on the phone, it's very, very good, covers the entire screen, and screen senssitivity is not affected. So far no dust on mine around the edges either.
If the phone will not be scratched by anything, so why bother putting protector on?
I got one piece of gadgetguard and I feel more confidence sliding my finger across the screen harder and harder without worry.
Agree that no screen protector is the best, but I have the reallook cover and I'm very happy with it. Screen still looks awesome.

I have a Realook and I am very, very happy with it! I have installed T-Mobile protectors on other phones and didn't like them. With the Realook I have to tell people that my phone actually has a protector installed.
I have not used Zagg but after installing the Realook on my Vibrant I don't plan to install any other brand.

I thought the same thing. I now have a scratch in the center of my screen, I don't even know what it's from. The strange thing is I am super protective about my device and it has never been dropped. The only thing I can think of is something in my pocket but I never keep it in the same pocket as anything else.
Bare naked at the moment...waiting for "the best skin ever" skin to come out.
I have a feeling that I'm goin to prefer bare skinned... but with some kind of case...otterbox? Anyone?

Invisible Gadget Guard
I am using a screen protector from Invisible Gadget Guard, and i really can't tell that it is there. I did have to take about a half hour to make it look that good though.
Had a Realook but it made the capacitative buttons along the bottom less sensitive. I took it off and am debating on going back to a screen protector. If my screen gets scratched up that bad I will just call Tmobile customer service and tell them I need a new phone because my phone is sucking down batteries in less than 2 hours. Works every time!!!!
I HATED the T-Mobile screen protectors I had. I switched to realook and swear by them now. As long as you take your time putting it on, the results are beautiful.
i like the clearfreak, it was a pain to put on but its feel is very close to the screen itself
I really think realook is the way to go. I've used many different brands of screen protectors and this by far is the best. Like ppl have said before you really cant tell that there's a screen protector on the phone
I have clear freak right now but there is one small spec of dust under it and its annoying the hell out of me. I picked up some realook screen protectors think I'm going to try and switch to those.

The screen protectors at sprint stores have 3 screens. antiglare and 2 normal and look really good on the phone. Their antistatic so no glue
And they cover more than just the screen this time.

3 pack. 1 antiglare and 2 normal.
Advice, unless you really need antiglare dont use it. Makes the screen look grainy. The normal ones are awesome though and maintain the glass feel and beauty of the screen.
14.99 for the 3 pack btw
my gf and I each got a pack of the sprint screen protectors. I put anti-glare on mine and regular on hers. the anti-glare sucks hard core, but the regular ones seems pretty good. im actually surprised how good the regular ones are. silky smooth, went on with 0 issues. no bubbles or specs. the anti-glare simply makes this beautiful screen look disgusting. oh...but it does cut down on glare for what its worth.
Just a word of warning: the first protector I applied had lint under it after application. I noticed the culprit was the cloth it came with that I used to clean the screen prior to putting it on.

well, as soon as one is available from Realook then i will likely get a set from them. i had/have them for the e4g and really like it. i have tried many others and the Realook are the only ones that maintain the true color from the screen. there may be others, but most seem to take aware from the picture quality.

Can't disagree with your confidence in so-called "Gorilla Glass" more!
It scratches. Unfortunately... easily. Had my EPIC in my pocket last spring playing golf and don't remember what was in my pocket but it wasn't anything made from titanium or diamonds and got a couple of pretty good scratches on it.... on my second one (after I replaced due to a brick) got a couple of minor scratches rather easily as well.
Don't get overly confident in the "gorilla" glass... I think there is something awesome about it in that it is highly polished and hard... but it IS NOT scratch proof.

My first Epic got scratched the first day I had from something in my pocket I will use a screen protector on the E4GT gorilla glass or not
I hate screen protectors. Who needs it with Gorilla Glass..
Like the above two posters, Gorilla Glass does scratch, and fairly easy at that. All it took to scratch my MoPho was one drop into the pocket my keys were it. As soon as I thought to myself, "Hey dumbass your keys are in that pocket", I pulled out the phone and low and behold there was a scratch. Not a big one, but it was the most annoying little scratch. So screen protectors are definitely a good thing, Gorilla Glass or not.
Gorilla Glass, we got it already!!! Enough already!!! I don't care if it has KING KONG GLASS, the extra layer of protection doesn't take anything away from the beauty of the screen, image or look of the phone. If you've tried a screen protector that does, then you probably either bought a crappy Zagg Invisible shield made of thick vinyl or had a cheaper than dirt one that did suck. The ones the OP is talking about are very nice. Just as nice as the one's Seidio makes, if not better. If you install it correctly, it is VERY difficult to see that the phone even has one on it.
Yes, we know, Gorilla Glass. Please stop! Why don't you make a thread about it instead?
OK, rant over...
I'm getting this horrible "rainbow" effect with the anti-glare protector in the sprint pack. Anyone else have this effect? I thought maybe because I applied it wet that it needs to dry underneath first. Possible?

Just got a HTC Evo 4G last week. I've had it in the Otterbox Defender case since day one. Lately, I've been trying to find a screen protector that covers the whole face of the phone. I've been unsuccessful in doing that. But, a guy was telling me that without a screen protector, the Evo's screen is hard to scratch. He told me that if I kept the phone in the Otterbox (which has a screen protector of it's own), that the phone would most likely never scratch.
Is there any truth to this?

Gorilla Glass is used for the Evo's screen and it's super durable. I used to use a screen protector (which ended up getting pretty scratched up), but I've been going without one for about 6 months and my screen is fine. I guess I really never needed the screen protector in the first place.
Thanks for the answer.
Where does it say that's the Evo's screen is gorilla glass?
I've never read that anywhere.
It certainly may be difficult to scratch but that doesn't make it gorilla glass.
@op
My brother had his evo in the otterbox and some sand got in between the screen protector and the screen and it wreaked havoc. It was extremely scratched...
You can buy some cheap screen protectors on eBay for a couple bucks.

Gorilla Glass website here under HTC
The EVO 4G, EVO 3D and EVO Shift all are listed.
I didn't know that it was Gorilla Glass for the first year of owning my EVO, but was relieved when I found out. Since then, I've been going without a screen protector.
strong enough?
One of my friends got into a motorcycle accident with his EVO in his pocket, and the phone was literally curved like a C shape from the impact, the screen was all cracked, but still continued to function okay... haha
I landscaped all summer and my Evo screen was scratched pretty badly. Don't let anybody tell you that an Evo screen cannot be scratched.
Pretty Damn Strong!
I've dropoped my phone four times and all Ive done is ding up the sides but I will say you can't throw it at a pole I tried and the screen did not succeed I was out a hundred dollars for insurance payment. THe evo is one strong phone that just keeps giving.
Well, I wasn't asking this because I planned on using my EVO for anything extreme. I asked to see whether or not putting a screen protector on while using an otterboor a ballistic case was a big deal.

I would say in the end it depends on what you do with your phone. I keep mine in my pocket (not with my keys or change or anything that could scratch the screen) most of the day and am mindful about where I set my phone, so I go without the screen protector.
If your phone is more exposed to things that will scratch it up, then I'd say grab a screen protector.
My wife keeps a screen protector on hers, since she keeps hers in her purse and it tends to get jumbled around with her keys and such.
The screen is tough and scratch resistant, but not scratch proof. You'd probably be safe from light scratches.
I have dropped mine numerous times and the screen has held up longer than then case.
Screen is strong lcd is not, punched the **** out of it one time the glass was fine LCD shattered.
The evo 4g's screen is strong!! I ran my evo over (by accident of course) and the screen DID crack but it worked perfectly fine! The evo will last under all basic drops, bams, and ninks lol!! There isn't a cellphone out today that can last under extreme conditions like being nuked, motor accidents, being fired at upon a firing squad, OF COURSE lol
I wonder if the Gorilla Glass is only on the newer hardware spec models since I don't remember this being mentioned when I bought mine shortly after release. that site quoted also lists the Epic 4G which my wife and daughter have and I notice that theirs also seems to be more reistant to fingerprint smudges, while my OG Evo needs a wipedown after any use at all...

Exactly.
That is why it might behoove somebody like my brother to have a screen protector underneath the screen shield on his case.
PS thanks for the science lesson ;-)

Sand is actually silica not quartz, some sand is up to 90% calcium from coral skeletons but over time that calcium becomes silica
Edit: BTW silica heated and pressed/rolled = glass that's why sand will tear the hell out of glass its fine rough edged and very hard at that size silica crystals are very hard compared to most minerals not quite as hard as diamond but on the upper middle of the scale

Dropped mine out of my shirt pocket last night like ive done probably a hundred times, only this time the screen cracked. Surprised me because ive dropped from higher up on harder surfaces. Mine survived a lot of beatings without anything
Also only ever got one scratch through it all and my keys were the culprit. Had my Evo for about year
About a month ago I dropped my phone from less then 2ft off the group. Completely shattered the entire screen. Thankfully my Zagg kept all the tiny peices together and it worked without a hitch. 50 bucks later and I had a new replacment in and I did the swap myself. This new glass feels more durable.
It however is *NOT* Gorilla Glass.
I've thrown mine at walls with a thin rubber backing and it's never cracked o.o
