Can I install downloaded softwares into SD Card? - Desire General

Hi
I wanna buy HTC Desire.
It's powerful device and it comes with android.
But I heard that I can't install downloaded softwares into SD Card.
Is that right?
Thanks

That is correct.
You cannot install applications in your SD on the current version of Android 2.1
however, you can install applications on your SD card in Android 2.2 which is
now available on the Nexus one as of today.
You can either get your hTC Desire, root it and get android 2.2 without Sense User Interface,
or you can get a Nexus one and install Android 2.2 on it.
i would suggest rooting Desire, or waiting for an official Android 2.2 release for Desire
because it is better in than Nexus, as it has some issues with battery life and multi-touch etc.

That is great, thanks.
I checked handtec, clove and expansys and they all Out of Stock.
I have to wait few days.
I have another question.
I want to buy Invisible Shield. Does it protect my phone from water?

Invisible Shield is rubbish and doesn't protect from falls let alone water.

The device has AMOLED Screen. Does it protect the screen from scratches?

AMOLED is the display technology. It has nothing to do with surface of the screen which is a glass/plastic resin which is fairly scratch resistant.

I don't have the original receipt. I bought it in February.
It's rooted and it's with custom rom.
Is it unlocked? You can get a bit more for it unlocked than not, tbh if its rooted it probably is xD.
looking on ebay at like £250 - £300 depending on what condition its in, more if you have extras with it.
Hope this helps!
Thank you.
It's beeing difficult to sell it. :S

I also think that's the right price. About 250 euro. If there's a guarantee card - 300 euro.

Cracking Open the HTC One X ?

Does anyone one know if anyone has done one of those "cracking open" vids for the HOX yet ? I would be interested to see how it's set up inside. I'd also like to know if the 32GB internal memory is actually a micro-SD card that could be swapped for a 64GB at some point

I would be shocked if the internal memory was a MicroSD and not soldered to the board. It kind of defeats the purpose to make it non-removable and NOT give us the performance of a dedicated connection.

Shocked or not, it's what they did with the HD7. I wouldn't be surprised at all. A good, high speed SD card?...you'd never know the difference
Whatever is the cheaper option. That is what they did. Can pretty much guarantee it.

From a diagnostics, servicing & repair point of view it would be much cheaper and easier if it was an SD card.
Not sure about manufacturing. Probably about even.
Just wondering if the only way to open up the One X is to remove the LCD screen? If yes then what's the point of knowing if it's a 32mb SD card? Is the average joe able to open it up anyway?

Put a HOX under X-ray (Turn it OFF first) and post a pic here.
We'll find out, if there is a memory card or something. Also, may be we'll see how to disassemble a HOX.
I think the HOX may be easier to disassemble that you might think.
I bought a gel skin case for mine which I take off fairly often because the HOX is so damn beautiful and nice to hold that it seems a crime to ruin it with a case.
Anyway, the case it quite a snug fit and I noticed when removing it that if I put my thumb on top of the polycarbonate just under the buttons at the bottom of the screen and firmly but gently flex it back I can snap the polycarbonate away from the screen by just a few millimetres. I can clearly see three little snaptabs sticking off the bottom of the screen that hold the polycarbonate in place. It snaps right back into place immediately.
I am too scared to try this right now but I think with further gentle pressure the whole outer casing would be levered away and you could lift all the innards out of the polycarbonate unibody.
There is clearly no "tool" access to the device so I assume that this is how it is assembled and disassembled.
BTW, here is a short video of the "opening" I mentioned above :

Yeah, y'know, I think I'll leave that to someone else.
Maybe someone who's already bricked theirs or got a DOA.
Mine's too new and shiny
So maybe this brings hope, that this is not a throw away phone or a send back to HTC service centre senario. Hopefully the battery could be user replacable in a few years time, once third party batteries become available.
gives me hope too...
even if it's a Li-Po, probably third parties will make a bigger battery for it, if it's possible.. >=)

I can tell you that after a couple of weeks of use, the battery is lasting one full day. You need to perform 3-4 full cycles charge and discherge to get full capacity but now is more than acceptable.
I'm using it for business and I do not loose any call.
The UMTS 3G data is perfectly working as well as all the others features it promises.
Fully recommended froma myself... but I'm not an expert.

So I got a ZP200 and updated the firmware to the latest 20120508 one. Now pressing search button in home screen doesn't bring up Google Search any more. It vibrates a bit but nothing else. Long press still brings up Voice Search, though.
The new firmware enables the full 1GB of RAM. It's pretty nice to be able to switch between many apps.

It's from Zopo's site: http://www.zopomobile.com/xiazai.php
No, it's not ICS. Still 2.3.6.
So I figured out why the search button stopped working after the update. The new firmware is missing GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk in /system/app.
I installed Google Search from Play Store. Then made a copy of com.google...googlequicksearchbox-1.apk (can't remember the full name) in /data/app. Uninstalled Google Search in Play Store. Moved the copy to /system/app. Renamed it to GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk. Changed permissions to rw-r--r--. And I now have a functioning search button!
Of course you need to root it first. All the file operations (copy, move, etc...) were done with AntTek Explorer (File Manager) but I think any root file manager will do.

Here's a tutorial on flashing ROM on MT6575 phones:

Hi stephen,
After being messed about ordering the dami y5 i have took plunge and paid for the zopo 200 as only brought the gphone merely for iphone lookalike, but now i wanted a bigger screen and more reliable phone.
Anything i need to know as regards does it come rooted? if not will superoneclick do the job?
I know only some things from having the gphone f27 but the zopo will be a newbie to me.
Looking forward to this thread and mostly my phone.
I noticed you mention something as regards get the full 1gb unlocked, why is it not already functional?
have you been able to get a protective case for yours?
Also what phone is the zopo 200 version a copy of as i see the 100 is copy of the htc evo.
I will be playing and trying things out when i get it and anything i can help with i surely will
Best wishes

It doesn't come rooted but rooting it is real easy: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26268246&postcount=3
The phone was shipped with a kernel that limits the memory access to 512MB. The new shipment in China is now with the new kernel. I don't know what you will get. If the build number is ZP200_120508 or later than you have the latest.
Personally I HATE protective case. No phone is thin enough and I don't need to make it worse.
I don't know what it's copied from. Don't think it (or ZP100) had a specific target for that. They both look really generic.
Wow them cases have got to you, you want to talk about it?
I was thinking about the thin rubber type just for the back only to protect from scratches, tyre type design one like for the ipod, iphone as i got my 2 boys one for their ipods and and gphone, nice and slim and perfect for the job.
Think one's your HATING are the ott chunky one's, which i agree are pointless.
Thank you for link, i have read full thread already and saved everything and will follow carefully, read twice then act.
Really looking forward to it's arrival.
Did you get 2 batteries with your's or had to go and buy another spare as from what i read, only downside to this phone is battery life.
Best wishes

The battery life is the number 1 issue with this otherwise great phone of value. It was originally designed with an optional add-on battery in the form of a back cover. Unfortunately, the add-on battery caused so many problem (flickering screen, for example) they canceled it after the first batch.
Zopo is working on a new higher capacity (2000mAh) replacement battery with a thicker back cover. It's scheduled to become available by the end of June. It will increase the thickness of the phone from 12.5mm to 14.5mm. http://bbs.zopomobile.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=13248&extra=page=1
I don't know if it will become the standard battery but my guess is it will. We will have to find a way to get the replacement parts from China somehow. And it's obviously having an impact on the case design. Zopo had some cases for the existing one, but they will have to redesign them along with the new battery.
The phone surface is tacky enough for me. So no case needed for me.
---------- Post added at 08:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:24 AM ----------
And BTW. Hero H6000 is identical to ZP200. The official firmware update files from Zopo even have the name H6000 in it.
Some good reading there stephen.
Interesting on battery information, i wonder if i maybe get the newer one? doubt it as they need to sell the current stock.
I used translator to give me an idea on what they are upto.
Have you got gps working?

Yes. That's the same one I have installed since the first of the month.
The latest news from Zopo forums is 4.0 is almost done but they are stuck on bringing in 3D functionality. I was guessing that's the holdup since no other MT6575 phone is 3D capable. I wish they will just release a version without 3D first since not many people depend on that anyways.
On other MediaTek related news: It seems the new dual-core MT6577 phones are near their release. There's really high anticipation over there in China for this low cost performance platform. No clue if Zopo is working on one but the first couples of them will be by Huawei and Lenovo.
If anyone is looking to buy a MT6575 phone and can wait a bit, I'd advice to wait for the MT6577 phones. In addition to the obvious performance advantage, they will come with Android 4.0 installed. No update or wait needed.

[Q] New Nexus 7 expectations.

Hi guys, just few questions if possible.
I am with android for several years now and my latest android device was i337 SGS (ATT Branded) and we're having a lot of problems with bootloader not unlocked and stuff. Is there a such problems with this device or there is no locks of any kind, and in general I do understand this is pure google but can we expect CWM recovery and ROMs for this little guy ? I can't live without my CM on my android.
And in general people who have it anything you like and most importantly don't like so far ? I orfdered mine 32GB version should be here I guess on 30th a bit after.
Thanks all.
P.S.
Anyone know where to get a case and screen protector for it but not for $20 for a damn screen protector ? I looked up pictures it looks like you can't really use old screen protector for new device ..can you ?

Please remember that from now on (unless that changed and I didn't knew): nexus = no bootloader lock at all. The nexus line was always devices that google wanted to support development and therefore there are no locks. So far, there's already CWM and TWRP available (in one day ) Hmm as far as CM is concerned, it should come soon as they're merging to make cm10.2. As far as accessories are related, you may want to check the accessory section of the forum.
Hope this helps!

Got one Tuesday after much fussing. First one had a power button issue and the second was the last in stock. I have a very small hairline scratch at the top but not on the actual display itself. I have just ordered a screen protector and case as not *ONE* (high street) shop in the UK appears to sell any accessories for this phone that I could find. So I have been using it bare. The scratchy plastic front lens is a bit of a pain for me as I have an HTC One M7 that has never had a screen protector on it in over 3(?) years and has not one scratch on it. Some minor niggles. The scratch prone nature of the lens obviously. The Android soft keys take up room on the screen and requires root to sort out (I am a bit shy about doing that right away). The lack of a charging LED when connected other than if you run it down to 0%. A fingerprint scanner would have been nice as well as the sensor that the S6 has to monitor things like heart rate. I can't seem to get Nova Launcher to work properly on it either (post Marshmallow and after updating). Not sure if that required root or not on my HTC though. I can see myself rooting it at some point but I will probably need some hand holding in order to do it.
In all other regards it's a steal!

Nova working fine for me too.
Turns out something changed for the camera app launcher (The one on the bottom was different to the default launcher on Googles Launcher). I was getting a photo app error when using it in Nova ('Photos has stopped working unfortunately' or something like that). I changed the icon to the Camera icon shown in the default launcher and it works now. I think I must have installed Google Plus or something whilst running Nova and it changed the Camera launching app. Only the default camera launcher seems to work with Nova on Marshmallow (what is that Quickpic? Will have to investigate). Also I don't think Nova likes the 'Hide System Bar' app on unrooted phones.
