HDMI/USB port covers? - EVO 4G Accessories

Title says it all. Does anybody know of any aftermarket plugs or covers for the ports? I know it seems kind of like an anal question, but I hate getting lint and crumbs of paper and the like in there.

Why not try and make your own with some silicone rubber? It wont stick to pins in the ports. Then you could just cut to shape with a razor blade.

Atrix Back cover

Since the back cover for the Atrix is one piece and actually covers the sides as well, i was wondering if these can be made out of carbonfiber. Anyone have the hookup on someone that can make custom CF parts?
Getting a case that snaps around this seems counter intuitive. You'd think the incipio and spek cases would just be replacement covers.

I was on some website, I cant remember and they had other backcovers on pre-order for $20.... They all looked like a rubberized material with a sort of carbon fiber design and each had a motorola symbol in the center. Either blue, green or pink.
I believe it was MobileCity Online or something like that. Definitely only preorder status right now.
I agree the back is waaaay too slippery. I feel like I am going to drop it while typing. I am holding out for Powermat to release a back to use with the charging pad. If not, I might opt for the soft rubber battery covers.
Interesting. I'd like to get an extra one to use as a template. I think i got someone lined up for carbon fiber but i'd need to give them a template that wouldnt survive. I also have to make a minimum order of like 50, which i'd toss up on Ebay.
i'd be down for a couple if you could post some shots of what it would look like...since it does wrap around the corners it would slim down the phone too (versus case)...

I would definitely love a powermat charger; depending on hpw much bulk is added to the device is another story though.

I would so buy one.
I have no idea how much these are going to cost me and i wont know until i can give them a battery cover to work with.
Honestly, if i have to get 50 made (they estimated 50-100), i wouldnt do it unless the price i could sell them for was about $40. Regular cases are around $30 so $40 would be a great price. Most CF cases are grossly overpriced and i'd like to avoid that.
Also, this would be a replacement for the battery cover. It wouldn't be a case so it would still work in the docking stations.
I seriously doubt you'll ever see a carbon or any other compost back. There is just no way to mold in the little clips that hold the back on. So plastic is your only bet. you can't even wrap in carbon because you need to fold the material over the edge for a good hold, and doing so would block the locking clips.
I'm trying my hand at covering the back in 3M DI-NOC (carbon fiber looking vinyl), which should give it some grip.
I have no experience with CF but those little tabs may be moldable (is that even a word??). Ill continue to investigate. If it doesnt work, i lost nothing.
If you get that Dinoc on post some pics up here. I'd be interested to see how it holds up around the corners since it cannot be folded back inside due to very small tolerances between the phone and the cover.
having a little experience with molding and CF, it will be so hard to get a good piece with the proper mounting tabs, you'll have more scrap than good pieces. Not to mention that when it's that thin, it will probably snap after a few uses (mounting clips, not cover). CF isn't some magical material you can will into any shape like you can melted plastic. To mold in the locking tabs means the piece would be "clipped" into the mold upon completion, not a desirable situation.
I will post if i get the DI-NOC to look presentable. I know a few places sell pre-cut DI-NOC protectors, but those don't cover 100% of the phone.
Your experience with CF is a lot more than mine, so ill take your word for it, but i will still investigate because it wont cost me anything. If it works, great.
The only thing i'll put on mine is a very thin "sticker" or nothing. A case isnt going to work for me as i will be using a dock. It seems stupid to think that companies made a case when all they had to do was replicate the battery cover and then market this as "Hey look, our solution works with your dock."

Let's see if you beat me to it! See the Captivate in my signature! I can't stand how slippery this thing is compared to my Di-Noc carbon fiber Captivate.... The only advantage to it is that it works great on my Desk Genie

Hey, if you can get it done, then more power to you, just trying to make sure you have a realistic outlook going in.
I'm betting companies don't make just backs because the design is 'proprietary' to the manufacturer.
1'x4' piece of DI-NOC is sitting at home, will attempt tonight.

I didnt even think of that! Surely there is some Chinese company chomping at the bit to make some cash.
EDIT
A clear acrylic battery cover would look cool. Show the insides a bit. And that will SURELY be cheaper than CF.
Im full of ideas today.
I apparently fail at vinyl. I can't get it to wrap the corners nicely, the stuff is too thick.

That **** is ROUGH, let me tell you.... I have done rear view mirrors (not side view, the interior ones) and man I thought all 11 years experience I've had doing vinyl was a damn joke! I gave up on even starting the back panel, check out the thread I just created for the carbon fiber front and sides, not to mention the back panel with REMOVED AT&T logo, REMOVED "HD VIDEO" text, and the "blur" in Moto blur....

[GUIDE] Otterbox commuter is compatible with docks

I had an otterbox commuter since I bought my Atrix, but after getting a couple of docks I jettisoned it. Well last weekend I smashed it to pieces, so for it's replacement I was determined to get the docks and the case to play nice.
I was shocked at how easy it really was. First remove the dock insert, then on the silicone under-layer of the case, simply cut off the plug covers and the phone plugs right into the dock without any hassle.
But I wasn't done, in that configuration the whole phone is basically supported by the usb port. An accidental bump or nudge could render the phone nonchargeable- no good. So I set to work with an exacto knife trimming out the dock insert until it was just right to provide support to the back of the case, broke out a little sand paper to smooth out the roughest portions, and presto! Pics below.
Oh yeah, before anyone brings it up, I'll be seeing what I can do about the car dock next.
Any idea if the defender could work
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
I've never actually put hands on the defender, so I don't know how much chunkier it is than the commuter. It looks like the defender layers are reversed; the hard candy shell inside, and the rubber around that? Try putting the case in the dock without the insert, and without the rubber wrapper, and see if the usb plug reaches the phone. If so, it may be worth trying cutting the port plugs off. Otherwise, it depends how hands on you want to get with removing more from the dock than just the insert. But the standard docks are $15 on amazon, so if you hack it all up to pieces and it doesn't work, you've not lost too much in the name of science.
As it happens, I took my dremmel to my car dock last night and it was promising at first, but by the time I got enough material removed for the phone to sit in the dock with the case on, it was being held less snugly than it is in my standard dock, and I hadn't even worked out how to get the usb plug to line up right. [sour grapes] I hate the car dock launcher interface anyways, so I'm just going to buy a second standard dock and mount it to my dashboard.
Ummm....if that's an Otterbox Commuter on your phone in those pics...it don't look nothin' like the two I have or the one's on Otterbox's website.

Don't know whose website you're visiting, but the commuter case is as shown below. The first pic in op was just the gooey center so you could see where the cut was made. From the front you can't see much of the hard candy coating anyhow, but it was there....
In that first pic, it looks like there's a different plastic shell on the front side. I see it now though. Sorry 'bout that.

Modify Case for Pogo Pins

I'd like my new CaseMate Pop! case to have pogo pin functionality. After looking at the case, I don't think it'd be wise to cut a big chunk out to accommodate the pins. Does anyone know of any pass-through pins that I could "poke" through the rubbery part of the case?
Feel free to look around the DIY workshop. By my records, the material used for pogo contact so for include:
Actual pogo pins
Guitar strings
Thumbtacks
Battery terminal prongs
Copper tape
Card reader prongs
Bare wires
Nails
Paperclips
So, If it conducts it should work. Just gotta be careful about scratching the phone. Some guys have actually made indents on each pin contact from using sharp stuff.
In your case, I think you should think about the heads of tiny screws from glasses hinges, poked through from the inside of the case....

Sounds like me
The battery terminal pogo pins i took from my old phone have kinda strong springs.
Can't focus properly since i'm using a point and shoot camera....
But i'm sure the indent is visible.

Tiny screws are a fantastic idea! However, I just realized that I got the 1st version of the Pop! Case from Case Mate. I will have to return it to Amazon. Don't buy from Case123USA. It's bad news bears!

HTC One case with dust port covers

Im looking for a slimline case for the one that includes covers for the headphone jack and charger port. It seems the bulkier cases like otter box defender come with covers but trying to find a more slimmed down case that has them.....

Get the Otterbox Commuter. It has covers for both ports, is a lot slimmer than the Defender and also keeps the shape of the One plus it still offers great protection. It also comes with a separate screen protector. I usually only get Defenders with my phones but I am loving this Commuter. It protects without taking away all of the beauty of the One.
check this out, looks good and has ports covered

Thats where Im from aswell. I really like that case too but its american only shipping. Although i think this is the same case here that does UK shipping. If you look at one of the pics the microusb port does not have a dust cover but then this isn't a htc one....

Hi.
If you look a the photo`s of the case in the dark, the green ones, you can see the headphone and charging port plugs.
I have ordered a green one , 15-30 days to deliver

I did that for my HTC ONE M7 and i kept loosing the charging port cover, and eventually lost it, it`s better to have it attached to the case.

I agree 100% but the way I carry my phone in my pocket I'm more concerned about the earphone port cover as its located at the top of the phone and I rarely if ever use earphones to begin with, I highly doubt I'd even use the charging port cover.
