What the hell... Put my phone on charge last night around 8pm.... Left it till I went bed around 1am... So was fully charged..
Woke up this morning at 6:30 and my battery its down at 25% !
In the battery usage its showing cell standby used 35% and idle used near 40%..
Haven't installed any new apps lately.. Any ideas what's happened?
did you leave wifi on?
Not even active wifi should lead to such loss on power... at least if it's not used by any app in the background. Was the back of the phone warm as you held in hand? I experienced, that heavy usage can be also detected on the warming battery. If yes, you should browse the running apps and kill the unnecessary ones. And perhaps try to investigate the settings of the running apps.
Everything was the same as every other night since I bought the phone 3 weeks ago... I usually leave wifi on and it auto switches on or off when I get home or leave..
I don't recall the phone feeling warm..
Well I took the battery out and left it a couple mins .. Now it back up to full charge so will see how long I get this time...

Cool post Mas!
Actually, Im not using any battery saving app, but the Power Control widget you also mentioned is on my home screen. I think this does the job very well. Best battery saving app for me
No problem buddy. You should also give the Extended Controls app or Switch Pro widget from the Marketplace a try. Even they are both paid apps, they give you a selection of more controls, just like the HTC Power control app. One thing the HTC Power Control lacks is an auto-brightness toggle option, however, this and many more features (including theming) is available in both paid apps mentioned above... give them a try

Answer me this one then guys,
Phone fully charged, on flight mode, in sleep over night. Used 12% of the battery.
I'm really disappointed with the battery life of the Desire. I've set everything on the phone to update twice a day working day and manual after 5pm, Turned off the locate by GPS, turned off the constant internet connection and everything else I can really think off.
I hardly make any calls, it's mostly just sits on my desk with the occasional text. Yet still have to charge it by the afternoon!
It came off from a full charge just 2 hours ago and already down to 90% So that's 10 hours standby time!
Phone was picked up on Friday, so it's had a few days to gets used to it's cycles. What the hell am I doing wrong or do I have a naff battery?
Opinions please!

Hi Dan,
Running a Orange stock Rom. Could it be that Orange don't power manage very well?
I had seen somewhere already about the animated wallpaper draining power, so I've never had an one!
I'm really puzzled!

Not really played with an Orange ROM yet,,,, if your rooted why not try a different, more power handy, ROM and see how it goes, if all else fails and there is a error somewhere you can always flash back to Stock and make a return jobbie

My phone has been on for 19 hours now and it has drained the battery to 34%.
Now normally that wouldn't be all that bad, except I've had a 12 hour sleep and didn't do much with the phone except unlock the screen a few times to check the time and battery status.
Battery status tells me the following:
Phone Idle: 92%
Android system: 6%
Display: 2%
Airplane mode is on.
BT, wifi, mobile internet, account sync, background data and all that stuff are off.
So what is the big drainer in the phone idle catagory?
Think I have a similar problem but mine drains rapidly at 20ish percent on about 10 mins. If I charge it up to20% from 0 it will slowly drain as normal.

myself my wife and my son all have desires
my wife is the only 1 who has a live wallpaper and 3 nights ago i monitored her battery usage and over the course of 1 night her phoned used 7% of the battery.
mine uses more as i do more with it
Fixed my problem. If anyone else is wasting a lot of battery with " phone idle " try the following:
When phone has wasted battery during periods of not using it, type in
*#*#4636#*#*
then select " Battery History"
In this screen check what's sucking up your overnight battery by selecting: "partial wake usage"
For me it was weatherbug elite.
Got down from 80% to 70% this nights sleep so i'm currently very satisfied.

As soon as i get my Desire back next week ill try this, coz im havin same problems on a HTC Stock Rom, Normally its on my desk at work 7-7.30 hours nd goes from 100% to 50-55% so ill have to charge it every afternoon i get home :/
hi guys,
help needed please...
my desire shuts down at 15% battery, which is doing my head in! im out all day at work, and i need to use all the battery, not 85%!
i noticed another thread mentioning it but couldn't see a solution.. is there a setting i have to change or something?!
many thanks
Format battery.
Drain it completely down until phone won't start. Than charge it. I usually charge the phone when its off. Also you can find topic with battery calibration that should improve it in your case.

thanks for the reply,
i have previously done that calibration method, dont really see what it did to help though.
is format different or is that what you meant?
so does your android switch off at 15% to?
thanks
I have this issue once in few charges. Every time when I swap my sim cards with charger on after some time it happens. Than I discharge the phone and charge it while its off. Always helps. Usually turns off at 1-3%

ok, thanks
i will play fruit ninja all night long to run down my battery and charge while the phone is off, and see what tomorrow brings.
Umm. The Li-Ion batteries prefer lots of small charges instead of one time deal 0->100. And they dont like being run dead. Sure, theyre not completely dead when the phone shuts off but still.
Instead of trying some tricks to keep the % higher, find out whats using all your battery. The % doesn't matter, its how long the battery lasts, right?
yeah i agree, but however long the battery lasts i want to use it longer than 85% off it, its crazy that it shuts off at 15%!
right now im on jury service so need my phone to entertain me for 95%!
but this doesn't seem to be happening on everyone elses desire which makes it even more frustrating...
If I were to leave my phone on without using it, it would die in about 10 hours. Is this normal? It's been like this since stock. I don't think this is normal since my G2 had way better stand-by time.
Please, don't say it has something to do with your settings and stuff, because I had the same things turned on with the same apps on my G2 with way better Stand-by time. GPS and Auto-backup.
Im running bone stock. I recharged after 38 hrs. And still had a 30% chg left
These were 14 hrs after complete chg.

See? This is what I'm not getting. Even since stock my Standby time was horrible. So I rooted to get better battery life. Nothing is changing. I even did a battery calibration to see if the phone was just reading the battery wrong.
I have another question. After the phone is finished charging at 100%, as soon as I take it off the charger, it goes down to 99%. Is that normal? I thought the phone was supposed to stay charged at 100% for a little while.
I just unplugged mine from complete charge and as soon as I unplugged it went to 99. So, yes????

That is normal to drop to 99% immediately. I always charge to full before I go to sleep at night and for some reason if I leave wifi on, the drain is really low when not in use...

Ok. I have no idea what is going on, but my phone just randomly rebooted, froze and then reset my home screen replacement launcher (as if I hit set to default), and now when I went to check on the battery usage and this is what I get:
Android OS is now at about 2% along with other things.
Display is at about 50%.
This is new. Android OS used to ALWAYS be higher then display. That didn't make since.
Now things are different. It seems the display is using the most energy. That is normal. I expect that.
I don't know, but it seems that everything is back to normal. I am using the phone, so I'm expecting this battery drain, but I'll check to see how much battery is drained on stand-by when I go to work later on today.

If you want your phone to last you throughout the day, make sure that "Use Wireless Networks" in Settings -> Location is unchecked. That is the biggest battery guzzler this phone has next to 4G and Brightness. My battery loses 2% all night til I wake up (Thats 8 Hours!!)

I figured it was a Samsung thing. I leave GPS off if that's what you mean, but location services stay on. That's just a me thing.
///////////////////////////
Today after work, I lost 30% energy on standby. That's alright with me. It was about 6 hours of straight standby time. It seems to have gotten better. At times I'd lose at least half of my battery after at least 5 hours.
I don't know how the phone seemed to fix itself, but doing things doesn't just DRAIN the battery anymore. I was playing on the phone fixing my home screen launcher and my battery wasn't dying right in my face. I lost like 2% after having the screen on for about 20 minutes fixing up my settings compared to seeing 5+% in like 10 minutes.
I am satisfied.

Lol, your battery didn't fix itself, that sounds like somethings wrong with the battery cycle. Maybe you need to recalibrate it.
You see, sometimes if you overcharge a phone, especially when using a charger that isn't made for that specific phone (usually a charger thats too strong) it can throw of the charge cycle. Thus, it can take like 30 minutes to drop 50% and then another 3hrs for the other 50% (this is just an example). If you're rooted, I highly recommend doing a full battery calibration.
Secondly, the Use Wireless Networks thing in the location isn't really a samsung thing, i think of it more as a google thing. I noticed that when its on, Google is always sending information back to itself, thus keeping the phone awake longer. Thats why if you go to your graph, it show that your phone is awake more often then it should be. I personally uncheck it, because if i ever need it, I just quickly switch on the gps. Then turn it off when im done.Thats my recommendation to you. Yesterday, I personally got a full 24hr usage out of my battery, and it wasn't even all that light. I texted most of the day, made a few calls, browsed the web, and listened to music for a few hours on the subway. Pretty moderate usage.
See, I'm not exactly unhappy with my battery life... but seeing what other folks around here are getting MAKES me a little unhappy.
I mean, I went to bed at... I'll say around two AM last night at 90% battery. My audio book player ran for thirty minutes after that; woke up at about eleven AM, 53%. NOTHING CLOSE to what you folks are getting. All of the big culprits I've heard mentioned have been checked out, and I just calibrated, so I dunno where else to go with this.

Does anybody see anything unusual about my battery life?
My screen has basically been off, yet I'm still losing weird amounts of battery. Based on the hours, I took my phone off the charger at 4pm Dec. 04 (16:00) and it died at 6am (06:00) Dec. 05. That gap in WiFi was my time at work.
Those bars you see in display right before WiFi get's turned on is me texting and Facebooking. Apparently I wasn't using Facebook enough for it to actually get a place in my battery usage.
And of course those two little bars in the red was my phone telling me that it's dying. Too bad I was sleep.
Ignore the rise after the fall. That's it charging of course.
Also, if you notice, my WiFi apparently wasn't using anything to get a place as well. Those are all the apps that were listed. Why isn't WiFi there?
I calibrated my battery twice already. I can calibrated it again since it fully died. Let me make sure I understand how to calibrate it.
ROM: ACS Syndicated Ice
Kernel: LoS Kernel
1) Phone charged to 100%
2) Phone dies
3) Charge phone to 100%
4) CWM and wipe battery stats
That's what I do to calibrate it.

Add a 5th step which is using the battery calibration app from the market. Also, uncheck wireless networks from location settings (huge battery hog). I assume that's probably your biggest problem. Then, if you are rooted, do what I did, which is get a root explorer and go into system>apps, and move the social hub.apk and media hub.apk to a folder on your SD. It will essentially uninstall it. Those 2 apps are battery hogs as well even if you have never used them. They will always run in the background. Try those and lemme know if it helped.

Wireless network location settings is also mainly used by Google to send them data about your usage. I noticed a significant decrease in battery life whenever this is checked. I would rather just turn on my GPS whenever I need it than keep this function on at all times. Its just not worth it in my book.

I have searched and read, and read. I can't seem to find my problem and my 14 days are closing in so dont know if I got a bad batt or charger, or something else.
ok. so my phone charges. says 100% so I unplug, and my batt circle on status bar says 96%(blx, maybe, I got that part). but then not touching phone, 15 minutes later 85%, then send a text, check email, 65%. by the time I hit 30 minutes it is at 45%. that is with gps off, etc. during the day I can't get more then 4 hrs tops without being at 7%. and that a couple phone calls, few texts, and maybe some email.
phone is Verizon, stock batt, etc. i'm on aokp. phone gets hot to touch when playing a game or watching you tube. I have set it to conservative, and no overclock.
I moved from t-mo to vz because of better coverage where I moved. and even with heavy use my sgs2 with the same battery lasted about 8hrs.
is it just lte?
should I make vz give me a new phone?
Attach screenshots of your usage? You probably have a wakelock problem.
ill have to take screen shot maybe tomorrow? or should I try and mimick same activities? I don't work till Monday. what is wakelock problem. ill probably search before you get back, but more info is more info
edit: did a search on wakelock, and yes I have noticed long charging times. or well it will charging all night, I unplug and head out to work it says 96% (blx problem maybe?) by the time I get to work (8 minutes or 10) its at 89%. so is it wakelock and blx(hope i'm mentioning the right thing, the rom reads battery wrong on purpose for better life)? the phone gets pretty hot charging and the plug. I don't remember my sgs2 getting that hot. and would charge from 10% to full pretty quick. should I try that charger and cable considering they are the same ratings(amps and voltage)

Should have taken a screen shot when experiencing these issues. Duplicate it. A wake lock is when the processor is not sleeping properly or is awake. Something like an app or a process is keeping it up.

i'm not used to problem with my Android phone lol. didn't cross my mind for screen shot, was initially thinking 4000mah battery, but don't want a phone book in pocket. is there anyway to check wakelock?
Wipe data;
Return to stock;
Use betterbattery stats to check wakelocks;
Most likely it will be user installed apps causing the extra drain.

Well I've had my G4 a few weeks now and rather happy with it, seeing some custom ROM's out there which is great, my only issue I can't get a good answer on the G4 is the battery. I charge my phone on the nightstand next to me nightly (sysadmin on call!) but I will get up 3am, or 4am and the phone is lit (dimmed) on the lockscreen and it's because the phone is 100%.
So can this be disabled and if so how? I need notifications on so can't just diable that, but just searching I find things like this (note this was NOT on XDA)
"Download Du Battery Saver, free app in the app store. It will optimize your phone, tell you what to turn off, give you suggestions on how to keep it cool and help you charge your phone correctly. Never charge these S4's overnight even though some people say it's okay. When it is fully charged you are supposed to unplug it. You charge it when it is 20% or less on a fast charge to 80%, then a slow charge to 100%, then remove the charger. Phone will then not heat up and battery will last a very long time. I am getting 3 days on one charge with this little app"
The reviews on the app look good, but 3 days! I have always used juice defender, but back to the main point/question. Should you be charging overnight, and if it is ok, how to disable the turn on the screen once done!
Note I am rooted and saw some root explorer things to disable, but figured I would ask the real group 1st!
Thanks
