Hello
i just got my desire and i love synchronizing with facebook in the contacts so there will be profile picture on each contacts
but if someone uses invalid telephone number on facebook, there will be few invalid telephone number shown on contacts. What can I do to hide the telephone numbers from facebook and just show what I inputed?
thanks
this issue has been reported/noticed many times and many times been said theres no solution to this right now, all you can do is add the working number to your contact and set it as a primary number, or dont sync lol
hopefully froyo will fix this

My company has an alerting SMS system. Usually you receive a reminder. The special thing in the SMS that instead of the number in the "Form" field it shows the text "alert".
When I receive this SMS it shows that I received it one of my friends from facebook contacts :s His profile also not contains number under the phone field just characters.
How this huge bug could pass the test?!
I reported this issue to HTC support, but of course no response.
This happens with me when receiving texts from t-mobile, it always says that they are from a random facebook friend. The only way to stop it, is to stop the phone syncing facebook contacts.
I too am having the same problem.
It seems very odd that it should pick up a random facebook contact.
I don't sync my facebook contacts to the Desire, but do remain logged into facebook and it still picks up the random contact despite the mobile numbers used etc all being different!
A fix would be great!
I had this bug, I had the contact delete their phone details seeing as they only entered garbage. Don't hold your breath on it ever getting fixed.
All my contacts use international number format (+xxxxxxxxxx) and are stored on gmail severs. Unboxed and setup the desire with my gmail, facebook and twitter accounts. Synced well and got all my facebook and gmail contacts. Here's the issues I'm having:
- I live in Lebanon where incoming numbers display 03123456 (03 is the mobile prefix) whereas i have stored them as +9613123456. My desire is not matching the incoming call to the corresponding entry in the phonebook. Never had this problem before on Nokia & BB.
- Incoming SMS seems to be working fine and matching the right contact. However, when I receive an SMS from an unknown short number (any commercial message), the desire matches the sms to a random facebook contact based on some weird recognition algorithm. Worse, if I click on that contact's avatar in the message thread, I get an application error (process com.android.mms has stopped unexpectedly...)
Any insight would be appreciated. Hoping for an easy fix!
I had the very same problem (commercial messages...) I deleted the contacts that were appearing (didnt use them often...). After deleting the 2nd or 3rd the problem was rectified. Not sure exactly why it was associating those contacts to the messages???
Strange.....
I noticed that these matched accounts had bogus data in their Facebook profile (phone number).
My major concern is the first issue. Anyone having the same problem?
Bump. Anyone?
"Facebook Account" widget, it’s incredibly useful, except it overwrites my contacts, for example.
I have a contact saved, with a mobile number, but my contact also has their number saved on their facebook profile.
So the number imported from facebook always begins with 44 and that’s the default (in the uk) and I can’t reply to any sms from these because it has to be either 07 or +44
I can’t delete the number imported from facebook or edit it, and it’s made itself the default number so if I want to text this contact, I have to start a new conversation every time.
Removing the Facebook Account widget solves this problem, but I don’t want to remove it, I just don’t want it to overwrite my phone numbers
is there any other way around this problem
I found this exact problem too, bit of a fatal bug if you ask me.
I didn't really find a solution per se. I just exported all my contacts from my old phone, then imported them into my google account.
Then in my phone book, most people were linked automatically (so they had the right number from my Google contacts). But all my facebook friends still have the wrong number (no leading 0 or +).
Hi
Why not just edit the contact after importing it? What i mean is, just click edit and then add the same phone number that you alreday obtained from facebook as the main mobile phone number for that contact and your problem should be solve no?!
Myself I have done this from my contacts and that works great and is quite a small amount of work, even more i dont really trust most facebook phonenumbers as many people just add some random number many times i experienced
Hope this helps....
you cant edit it once it's linked to facebook because the facebook number takes over

Ok i start to see your point now actually, sorry, what you mean is that you cant make any other number than a facebook number the default number for a phone contact once it is linked. That is pretty stupid...
I have a problem with names of contacts not showing up.
I have my contacts synced with google contacts. There the numbers are in the format 1234567. When the contacts phone me I can see their names OK but when they send me a text I get instead +3541234567 and no name.
I've googled around and this seems to be hitting some people but no concrete solution suggested.
android 4.1 messaging sms or chompSMS from Market
This is my solution use android 4.1 messaging sms from the market and wait for the developper to make it better same thing was happening with me i would like to share my experience with you for you to skip the steps that i have done : Most of the contacts names are not showing in the stock messages,i receive the msg with the phone number with the country code without a name although the name is in my contact list, i did a hard reset and stopped facebook even didn't sync facebook contacts at all, i added country code with the + to the numbers but it was worst because i was seeing the names in sms but only numbers when i receive a call, i deleted the contacts then imported them to my google account and the same file to outlook on my laptop then synced them all meaning the same contacts without any conflict but with no luck, i added to the location to the addesses with the country on both google account and outlook also with no luck, GOsms and handcent did the same thing but it worked with chompSMS and android 4.1 messaging sms from the market but this is not what i want, i like to use the stock messeges app; frankly this is driving me crazy
Same thing here... Tried all the above you mentioned... Nothing worked... :crying: My CID is HTC__102

There is a silly solution that i tested and it's working, you need to add new e-mail to your contacts the number of the contact sure with the + and the country code and it will work that makes no sense but it works and imagine doing this to all contacts but i did it to some contacts who text me often.
I've got a weird problem with my contact list. Besides the one ob google contacts I also have lots of email adresses thst i've communicates in the past. But if in into contact managing, it shows the without these stand alone email adresses
. So the question is: how does one remove old email adressses from phone? I.mean turning it off. None of these emails are shown on the web on google contacts.
Thank you
