Changing Storage Card? - Desire General

so tomorrow I plan on purchasing a 32g card to maximize my desire's potential. What do I have to do to make sure the data like music and such on the 4g card gets transferred over?
Thanks alot,
Steve

Copy from one card to the other. In case you don't have that option, first backing up to you computer and then copying back to the new card would be the way to go

Deleted SD Card

I hooked up my Desire to my PC as a usb drive and somehow it has corrupted the FAT table on it
Is there anywhere I an get an image of the original SD Card as it comes with the Desire? Obviously I can re-install music/videos etc, but I'm afraid that not having the original data on the card will screw up the apps.
Any ideas?
No it will not. Nothing essential on the original microSD card.
Excellent! Thank you for that.
I actually got most of the files off the card using RescuePro, but they're named Raw0001.dll, Raw0002.exe, etc, but it means I can recover the htcsync.exe and the pdf manual and suchlike.
Thanks again for your help.
I have a Sandisk 16Gb microSD card (which has outlasted one blackberry phone without the slightest problem) and have found that the Desire has on three occasions so far deemed it to be corrupt - with the only option is to format!
Having only music it hasn't been too much of an issue - but if and when I start storing app data such as satnav maps etc I am going to lose my adoration of this phone pretty darn sharpish.
Has anyone else had any sd issues?
Hi, I got my Desire on Friday, from mobilephonesdirect. It seems to be virgin branded phone and I am experiencing the same problem with SD card, it keeps saying the card is damaged and needs to be reformatted, or it says the card is new and needs formatting. I thought this was because it's meant to be a T-mobile phone and possibly the sim is messing the card??? Don't know this is all new to me.
If however the phone is virgin and working on a t-mobile sim does that mean it's unlocked? In which case I shouldn't return it just because of sd card.
Thing is, I don't know if there is something wrong with phone for not accepting the card or if there is something wrong with card?

Hi, I got my phone from carphone warehouse on T-mobile last month and it came with Virgin Media icons as well. I have had no problems with SDcard but replaced it straight away for an 8 Gig I had waiting for it The 4 Gig card has now gone in the mrs's blackberry and seems to be working fine.
The original 4gb card is collecting dust on a shelf. The 16gb replacement is a tried and tested card. Here's to hoping just an unpleasant hitch.
Mine's an unlocked device from T-Mobile.

[Q] help me solve this SD card issue please!

i have a 8GB kingston sd card in my tmous g2. i just bought a 16GB PNY sd card and im having troubles having it read by my computer(mac and pc) and my phone. heres what i did:
i copied all of my files from my sdcard to my computer via data cable so i could jut transfer them to my 16GB card. i put the 16 card in my card reader that came with it, into my computer and it wouldnt read it, so i tried the 8 in the same card reader of the PNY and it worked. then i tried to put the PNY card into my phone and it wouldnt recognize it. im not sure what to do.
why cant my phone or my computer read the card? its not the reader because my kingston card worked with it. is it because of the two different brands? any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance!

I had this same problem when upgrading the SD card in my HD7. I went out and got a Microcenter branded 32gig SD card and swapped it into my HD7. Worked flawlessly. A friend of mine got jealous because of the read/write performance increase, so he went out and bought the exact same thing. Only difference was that his kept locking up on him instead. He returned it and got the same exact size and brand card. After installing it, it worked just as good as mine. Turns out he just got a bad card the first time.
Sounds like the problem is in the card itself. If the PC won't even recognize it then there's probably something wrong with the card. Different brands shouldn't matter because the PNY card adapter worked fine with the Kingston 8gig card.
I'd return it if possible and get a different one.
I also just got a 16GB PNY card and I have had no problems with it reading data or having data be read off it.

Yep, I agree this is probably the issue. PNY cards are cheaply made and not great quality.

What are you guys going do with ur Micro sd cards?

As you guys know the HTC One X doesn't have micro sd storage slot. So if you upgrade from like say HTC Sensation then you got your bigger sd card left or you need sell it together with your old phone.
Company i've sold my Desire to only require the phone, so my memory card is now in a USB reader and being used to transfer files about.
I could use it for that to. I could put it in an microsd sd adapter and use as spare sd card.
But there is no way I need 3 sd cards. I already got an 640GB external hard drive. I just now just ask the buyer if he was interested in it,
I will sell it together with my phone..
I'll upload whatever is on it first to dropbox and Google music and then wipe it clean ready for whoever I give my sg2 to
I'll probably put it in my prime.

I will put a 4 Gig card in my sensation and sell it and put a lot of mp3s on my 16 Gig card and put it in my car stereo
the only card i had was the free 16gb Sandisk (class 2 probably) from the Droid 1, and since they are selling 64 GBs now and i have no use for one anyway, it went to NY today with my GS2.
fortunately i have a tablet that i can use it on.
Shred them? I've got so many of them laying arround variating from 2-32gb...
I'll keep the old device with me ... But if I need to upgrade, I will keep my 16gb for my needs, and sold my 2gb with the phone. It don't worth to sell because the price will drop.

Issues with Sprint GS3 and 64GB MicroSD

I've been having a terrible time with getting my Sprint GS3 (stock running JB) to use my new Sandisk Ultra 64GB microSDXC. According to Samsung's site (http://www.samsung.com/global/galaxys3/specifications.html) the phone is supposed to support 64GB cards. The Sprint manual doesn't have anything about types of cards, and the website just echos the same "up to 64GB" verbiage.
So, I tried taking the original format (exFAT), formatting with the phone (exFAT), and formatting with FAT32 (using EaseUS partition manager), and formatting with Win7 (exFAT). In all cases, when I copy the contents of my original 16GB card over to it, I seem to eventially get a corruption problem. It shows up right away when I try to view the photos with Gallery (gallery only shows a few of the 1000 thumbnails, and then closes itself with no error message). With FAT32 I ended up getting the phone giving a corruption alert requiring a reformat (I never got this alert with the exFAT, just gallery crashing).
I tried getting the data (about 13GB) onto the card by copying the contents from my old 16GB card over on a PC (using a SD-card adapter as well as with a microSD reader). I also tried formatting the card directly on the phone and then copying the data over using a microusb cable. I did check the card on a PC with H2test2 ver 1.4 (commonly referenced). This helps to determine "fake" cards. It writes and then verifies data to the entire card. No issues were reported with the full capacity verified. I got the card from Amazon with Amazon as the supplier (no oddball vendor).
Anyone run into this or have ideas? I was hoping to skip over the 32gb point as I like to keep more photos and movies on there for travel.
Thanks!
It is seemingly a problem with the SanDisk Ultra cards, whatever the technical reasons they don't play well with the phone's host controller.
I have had the same issues as you, and so did a very large amount of people. I resorted to buying a Samsung 64GB Pro card and ever I have not had any problems.
I have heard some people talking that SanDisk cards manufactured (Toshiba is actually the manufacturer of the memory) before December were prone to this problem, but this is only what I've heard but you can search on this lead. You can try to replace it with SanDisk service.
Thanks for the reply. I'll try Sandisk support first but keep looking around on here to see if anyone has run into a similar issue.
Anyone else?
I concur with the theory that Sandisk has a rash of bad cards. In my case it was a 32GB card just konk out in less than a month.
Their customer service was excellent in replacing it though. Good C.S they have but I'll avoid their cards for now.

Usb storage damaged message

I keep getting a usb storage damaged message. I have read that it is sometime an issue with the galaxy s3. Also sometimes when I first unlock the phone it says prepping sd card even though I did not remove it.
Also my SD card is a SanDisk 64gb class 10. I have read that this can be an issue with a certain crop of SanDisk.
Any tips? As of right now entitling works and if it's just messages popping up.

Have you tried using the SD card in other devices and on a computer?
I had a *similar* problem with an old MicroSD card in my original Galaxy phone and formatting the card seemed to work. I can't speak too much to your issue because the largest MicroSD card I've used is 32 and it's been flawless.
Yeah, verify across devices first. If not, try filing a claim with SanDisk if you purchased the sdcard only recently and it's already gone bye-bye.
