Something I've noticed about the People app is that once it has retrieved a profile picture from Facebook, it never updates the contact if they change their Facebook picture. It pulls in newly added people, but all existing friends retain their original picture. This is even a couple of weeks after a picture has been changed.
Not a really big deal, but one friend had a pretty terrible picture up when I first got the phone and it makes me wince a bit when they call.

Go to People app, search that friend, tap on him. New screen comes up, there's a Linked sign on top right. Tap that. New screen comes up, there, at the left side, you'ill find the photo, and there's an arrow pointing down. There you can set which photo you want to use (google, camera, or Facebook).
I have the same problem, but doing this still doesn't update the Facebookpic, and that's all I want to do since the contact now have changed her picture to a more bareable one
I've got the same problem. What I did to fix this was went into my sync settings removed my sync with facebook for htc and re entered my facebook details. Unfortunately it seems that I have to do it every time to updater facebook pics

That's exactly the problem - what you see there is the picture the Facebook contact had at they were first synced in, not the current picture.
such a shame cos the the HD2 did update properly

Dear Friends,
I noticed that since manila 2.1.1919 (LEO) (probably), the contacts picture doesn't updated. Means if any of my friends change their profile picture in their facebook, their new picture wont show up in my contact. I've tried to update, but no luck. Only their status are updated.
Anyone has the same issue? any fix for this?

I'm using stock att rom and manila 2.1.1918 and had a similar issue when linking the profiles for the first time, and updating the pic the contacts pictures wouldnt load at all, i removed the link b/t the facebook and contact and instead of having it auto locate which contact i chose it from the list and that worked. i know its a dif version, but figured I'd share my experience
I thought I had the same issue but it turns out that it just takes a while. Once you set it to update move back to the home tab and then go back. pic should be updated
i've tried that, but still no picture update. The status did update.
I'm not sure if this will work, but I figure my 2 cents might help.
I had a similar problem as well.
Now that you have a connection with the facebook profile... Go into your contact list, select any contact that is asscociated with a profile (via Automatic Pairing or Manual). Select "Edit Contact" (shoulr be under the "Information" Bar). Touch the area where the "Photo" should be. Select "Facebook Profile."
I have had a few that I had to do this to, but once I did this, they change by themselves as people change them on their profiles... I believe it updates every 2 hours or something.
Worth a try, at least.
Hi all, loving my new Desire!
So, I've sync'd Facebook, Gmail and Flickr with my phone. I thought this was fantastic that it links people in my contacts with their facebook accounts!
BUT, it's made my contacts list stupidly big by adding in every person I've got on facebook, as well as every contact I have on my Gmail account! How do I turn this off? Finding a contact is stupidly hard now.
If I click on People, it only shows the phone contacts I've added, but if I open up a new sms and select to open up my contacts, it shows every name under the sun!
Thanks!
When viewing the complete list of contacts, press the menu button. Then press view, and you can turn on/off the contacts you want to see in your list
Regards
DF
Great the "People" app but doesn't affect "Messages" ...
Yeah, the view thing only affects the People app but your FB contacts will still be searchable via Phone/Messages etc
I just had an idea of a possible workaround by adding all your phone contacts into a group.. then just going into this group when sending a text, etc. but it'll only let you send the text to everyone in the group!
This has to be the most annoying thing about the phone so far. Well, this and the utterly rubbish optical trackball.

Errrm, I'm not sure to be honest. The way it works is if it's 100% sure a contact you have is a person on your facebook, it'll make the link between the two. If it's not 100% sure, it'll suggest the link to you and you have to manually agree to link them.
The trackball is just so innacurate. If for example I need to delete an extra letter in a word and using my finger on the screen gets me close, but not exactly where I want I have to use the trackball.. Which sometimes scrolls along too far or not enough.
Plus if you want to actually use it to do anything, you have to go mad with your thumb!

it just needs some getting used to i guess, ... some people complained about the trackball of the N1 at first, but then they got used to it.
regarding your issue, .. why dont you save your important numbers in the SIM, and then clear all the phone numbers in the phone, and then copy from SIM again
I think if I did this, the next time it sync'd it'd add them all back again!
I could give it a try though

choose not to sync again, .. there is an option for that right, .. the facebook/gmail syncing is not a must
Hi,
I came across problem with caller id photo quality is poor. It is blurry because stretched up.
This happen when you sync with Google Contact, because your original high-res caller id photo is replaced with Google Contact 96x96 size.
Is this still happening with Desire?
http://androidforums.com/support-troubleshooting/17728-poor-contact-picture-quality-caller-id.html
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1265
Noone is using Google contacts with photo having this issue?
I am having this problem. I think it only happens when you use the camera to take a photo when editing contacts. If you choose a photo instead of opening the camera to take a new photo, you will have the option to crop the photo and the resolution seems much better. I just tried it last night and it seems to work.
Later edit:
When you link it to the Google account, it scales it down to a very bad resolution.
it also happens when you link your contacts with facebook accounts

Ugh, this is not good. I just went over to the google forums, and see that this issue has been open for a long, long time.
Has anyone found any workarounds, especially for using the FB sync problem with Caller Id Photos?
I also have this problem, only on a Hero. The problem occurred when I flashed a 2.1 ROM on it. Sometimes the photos are blurry, and sometimes they disappear completely, replaced by the generic photo.
It seems to change when I connect/disconnect from wifi, but not every time.
Just thought I'd add the info, even though it's not on a Desire.
Hey guys,
Recently I have been experiancing some problems with the synching of contacts through Facebook to my Evo, specifically the picture aspect of it. Out of about 100 or so contacts on my phone, only about 10 actually have their up to date facebook picture as the contact icon. Everyone that I want with the picture is linked to facebook, yet their picture still doesnt show. I can see their status's and even their photo albums, but still no contact picture. Anyone know the answer?
I think its a app called syncmypix heard that works well
Swyped From My Rom But I Will Always Be A Mynion!
You could always manually switch their picture though edit contact to the facebook one. This may take too much of your time but it should work. Unless of course you already tried that.
from my EVO using XDA app.
I became aware of the issue when I noticed that there were no photos in the People and Photo hubs - just little grey squares. Selecting them took me to a larger grey square then the message "Cant get picture. Try again later" My Facebook and Photo feeds still updated though.
I then went into settings and tried to manually sync Facebook but got error code 800723ff.
A search on the net showed that this was caused by the data connection being dropped, but this is not the case as I was able to sync my email addresses and Facebook updates from my friends were loading.
I removed and re-added the Facebook account at least 5 times. Pulled the battery and the SIM card...all to no avail. I really don't want to reset the phone and have to reload all my apps again. I did that about a month ago because of an error with the Marketplace. If anyone has any ideas or came across this before and knows the solution it would be greatly appreciated.
Another thing... this is something I was able to confirm - at least for my phone - when I deleted and re-entered the Facebook account. The time it takes to load the Facebook content and load a post with comments increases as time goes by. I first noticed this back in January when I got frustrated because it started to take the What's New in the People Hub over a minute to load content. On a whim I deleted the Facebook account, added it back in and lo and behold... loading content in 1 - 2 seconds. Selecting a post by one of the fan pages I follow, such as Yankees or Rangers, that had up to 90 comments loaded everything in about 4 seconds. Prior to this, loading a post with 9o comments was an exercise in frustration. I'm talking almost 2 minutes.
Before this latest error, I felt that things were a bit slow again. Not as slow as in December, but still a bit of a delay. Now, with the Facebook account freshly entered I am again enjoying speedy load times. I just loaded a post with 99+ comments and that took only 3 seconds.
I am worried that this is the norm. That as time goes by, loading content in the People and Photo hub will become progressively sluggish. It reminds me of WinMo 6.1 where I had to do a hard reset every 8-10 months because the system slowed to a crawl.
So, can anyone else confirm my findings? If this is indeed the norm, then this is an issue that MS needs to know about and correct. I guess I can delete/re-enter the Facebook account every couple of months but why should I have to? It's a minor pain in the ass to go through my contacts and relink them everytime I do this.
no such issues on my HD7, maybe you should bring it to service ctr, if the data connection is dropping, it maybe the radio issue...
I have a problem with some pictures of my contacts linked to facebook not wanting to update, none of the other issues though.

I've just signed up to say that I've been having the same problem recently.
I experienced the problem with Facebook photos as well, it lasted for about 3 days. Today it started working again, must have been some bugged update on Facebook side that's gone now.
I just noticed that the "what's new" feed in the Picture Hub suddenly has gone completely empty and just says "no news to share now". Very strange and annoying.
I had the grey squares pictures issue, I turned off the https Facebook Account setting and they came through straight away.
Well I don't use facebook integration in contacts.
I rather use the app for that.... I visit FB maybe 10 minutes a day.
For weeks I had been frustrated because a few of my contacts would not appear in the People hub, nor link to their Facebook counterparts. It turns out there is a Facebook privacy setting that allows a Facebook user to prevent "platforms" from accessing their data. Thus, the Facebook app will show them, but the integrated Facebook support will not even show them as your friend. There is no workaround or solution for this, other than to ask your friends to turn this setting off in their privacy options. I understand this isn't the exact issue the OP is having, but it seems to me this thread is full of Facebook/WP7 interaction information and I thought it may help others who are experiencing the same problem.

Thanks! I completely forgot that I had turned that on. Turned it off and it works again.
I have big issues with the Pictures Hub.
I have not been able to upload any photos to either skydrive nor facebook for days now, and it doesnt even show my pictures from facebook, the only thing I have there is "Camera Roll" and "Saved Pictures".
I get the message "We cant upload pictures at the moment, try again later".
I have two Omnia7's right now, it works just fine on one, not the other.

Hey! I'm running into the same problem as described by the OP and I'd like to try out your solution - I'm just not sure what you mean by the https facebook account setting. Where could I find that?
I currently have secure browsing as disabled when viewing my facebook account in a pc browser through facebook's own website, under account settings > security
No problems like what's described in the OP but I did notice that not as many posts are displayed as before.
