Buggered up phone - Desire General

HELP please as I am about to cry.
I have different *scenes* on phone, with different wallpapers and apps. Named them red, blue, green etc.
Tried to change scene from green to red, all the while forgetting that I have re-named the red wallpaper from blah blahblah.jpeg to red.jpeg. What is even worse, is that the backup of my sdcard on my pc also has the wallpaper called red, and no longer the original blah.jpeg.
Phone tried to change scene, but came with error *Sorry! The application HTC Sense (process com.htc.launcher ) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.* Force Close.
I cannot get into the phone at all also I cannot for the life of me remember where I got the original image

factory reset springs to mind

This happened to me, I didn't have any complex scene setting, but I did modify one scene and save it with the same name which the Desire duly told me that this would overwrite the scene ... no problem. But when I wanted to change scenes sometime later, I got the same looping force close you described.
Sadly the ONLY thing that worked was a hard reset.
I must admit I am reluctant to change scenes now in case this happens again.

have you tried booting in safe mode? with the phone off, hold down the menu key while you push the power button.

I did try this and Sense still did not load. A hard reset was the only way to get my phone back. Luckily I had a recent backup courtesy of MyBackup Pro

So the warning is, don't overwrite any scene that is default to the desire? any changes always create a new custom scene? I have a scene called custom1 that I often make changes to and save it as custom1 overwriting the old copy of custom1. Is that ok? Is it only when we rename defualt scenes it happens?

I don't believe you can overwrite the built in scenes and to be safe I would create new scenes and delete the old ones rather than overwriting as this seemed to be the problem. I am guessing it's something to do with widget locations - it's a guess but as widgets seem to be the thing that crashes SenseUI more than anything else, it's a fair guess!
I am reluctant to swap scenes as I don't appreciate having to hard reset. Maybe I will try this when a necessary reset happens in the future.

Thanks to all - sadly I had to to a hard reset, and re-install everything which was a major pain. I have learned my lesson.

[Q] Remove Clock on Lockscreen with Blank ttf

Permissions setting lower down might fix this: "DOESN'T WORK ON ATRIX OR JS7 ROM. If your phone bootloops, just go into Clockwork and replace the font file again with the regular clockopia or reflash on top with the same Rom."
Hey All,
I found an ingenious solution to a problem I have been having. I don't like replacement lockscreens as they are usually slow or odd SO I found a solution. I have a live wallpaper clock and I don't like having the regular clock text on it so...replace it with a 'blank.ttf'
You can't just make a blank file, it must be formatted, so simple google search shows up this!
Change the extension to ttf, also you might want to do this:

You should chmod 644 /system/fonts/Clockopia.ttf after you push it or it can bootloop almost every device without setting proper access permissions for the font.

If using this, its just blank right? Battery, signal, etc doesn't scoot down to the right??

Ya, they are in the same space as if the clock is still there. The metrics of the font is similar to Clockopia

did not work on js7 rom. phone currently stuck in bizarre bootloader loop where the android OS restarts itself upon trying to display lockscreen text.
Hmmm, odd. Well, there we have it. Doesn't work on all roms...
Yep. Avoid doing this on a Motorola Atrix too. Reflashing right now due to getting stuck in the bootloader repeat.

Odd, sorry dude. I'll make a note of this on the OP.
This is a great start and works on my thunderbolt, but how do I get rid of the rest of the info on the lock screen? Like the day of the week, the PM, and the charging status. Any ideas?
No ideas, those elements use the regular DroidSans.ttf font. You could look at the lockscreen zip but I'm not sure where to start.
You should chmod 644 /system/fonts/Clockopia.ttf after you push it or it can bootloop almost every device without setting proper access permissions for the font.
Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for! :good:
I'm using CyanogenMod 7 and this is the only way I have found, to remove just the clock from the lockscreen.
Ahh, the old days of the Thunderbolt. Looking back it depresses me, but I'm back on HTC now with the M8. Feels way better.

[MOD][ROOT] Change default homescreen - TouchWiz 4.0

Hello,
There's a simple way for those who want to change default homescreen.
You have to be rooted.
So, you first have to download a file explorer that supports root, for example Root Explorer(paid, I use this one).
Then, go to /system and open default.prop with text editor.
Now, add this line:
Code:
ro.csc.homescreen.defaultscreen=3
Where 3 is the number of the default screen you want - 1. So default screen 4 => 3.
Now, just reboot and it should work. If you have any problem/question, feel free to ask.
At first: Sounds great! Thanks!
But:
Afaik (only from some (elder?) videos) it's possible to add and delete home screens. Could you tell me or try what happens if you set this var to e.g. 5 (=> default home screen is 4) but you only have 3 home screens at all? The same has to be considered if you accidentally delete the last home screen and this one is/has been set to default.
Worked perfectly! Thanks for the tweak was missing this feature from my past android phones.

Could it be made into a simple apk file?
Even easier - no root required
Sorry to steal your thunder -
Pinch zoom (helicopter mode) longpress & drag will do it.

Ian, the point of this mod is so that when you hit your home button, while in your homescreens, it will revert to the 4th screen. Normally when you are in your homescreens and then hit the home button again, it'll revert you to the first screen as default. This is the case even if you change the order of your homescreens using pinch to zoom.
Cool I hoped this was coming. Cant stand being on 1 as the home screen.
Thanks EleCtrOx666!
Works great.
If it is this easy to make the change I don't understand why Samsung didn't include it as an option in one of the configuration menus.

I'll see what I can do.
It worked great with root explorer, but not so much with ES File Explorer -- it does have a "root" mode, but it asks you whether you are using the CyanogenMod or the HiAPK rom.
For n00bs, like myself, it's also worth pointing out that you won't be able to edit the build.prop unless you click on the "mount rw" (read/write) button up at the top first. Afterwards, you'll probably want to click the "mount ro" (read only) at the top again.
Thanks a lot.

This works beautifully and something I've been pining for after moving from sense. Thanks a lot
I'm not an active Android dev. But isn't there a var you can call and just divide by 2?
Like:
ro.csc.homescreen.defaultscreen = ro.csc.homescreen.screencount/2;
Something like that? Excuse me if this obviously doesn't work, it was just a thought, as it would make it easier and won't require users to change that value whenever they change the amount of homescreens.
How did you find this setting? I'm interested if there are more useful settings like that.
hy EleCtrOx666
i'm a beginner in this so pls have a little patience with me.
I got a SGS2 and i'm interested to know if there's anyway to root the phone without flashing a custom kernel taking in account that u have this "nice" counter on the phone.
Very nice explained how to modif home-screen number.
is it here any way to get temp root?
hi sorry to be a pain, but i would love to be change my default home screen button, I followed the guide, and rooted my phone successfully (i think) and once superuser was installed I went and found the defualtprop file and edited it as guided by adding that line, i clicked save & exit (at which point it tells me it made a backup of the original file) then after I restart the phone it just goes back to normal, like I never touched the file...
anyone know where i'm going wrong?
Thanks, reminds me of my HTC Desire now with homescreen centred

This Guide explains how to do it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056334
This doesn't work for me. I can't add that line. I've tried two different text editors and two root explorers (one with an editor built in) and they both say the file can't be saved. No other programs open. I restarted the phone and tried again.
Anybody else have this problem?
Thanks for the help via PM.
In case anyone else had my problem, it was solved by using Root Explorer. Click "Mount R/W", do the edit, save, reboot.
Works perfectly.

[Q] 2.3 Update

I updated my Desire HD to 2.3 and i have a problem my home screen ui is moving very very slowly with a normal wallpaper when i put a live wallpaper its even worse.
When i had 2.2 i never had this problems anyone have any answers.
UI moves the same way with or without USB debugging.
is it just the home screen?
is the 'All Apps' menu acting the same?
and how about the UI of other apps?
Only the home screen is moving slow the menu and apps are moving perfectly
given that you dont have some 3rd party widget that MAY be slowing down the homescreen
Try going into Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All>
Then go to HTC Sense (the one with the icon of a home screen) and click Clear Data (NOTE: this will remove all the widgets from the home screen)
Personally, im not 100% sure if this will work, but it has helped me in some problems with my home screen.
tell me the result.
nop its still the same slow moving home screen
in that case, you have two options---
1) You could do a factory reset (since you just updated, i dont think it'll be a big problem) but remember to backup your data, apps, etc... (IM not 100% sure that it'll work either, but if it doesnt then i think you have a problem with your ROM)
2) You could wait for someone to come and answer.
i did the factory reset a few days after the update to see if it would help but no such luck
Then i THINK the problem could be with your ROM.
Try installing it again. If you're looking for an official source - CLICK HERE. (thanks go to andy)
Thats an official ROM, if you have CWM recovery, then i would suggest a stock-rooted ROM CLICK HERE
reinstaling the update worked perfectly now my phone home screen is moving perfect it dosent feel like a nokia 3310

[Q] Home Screen Offset - Solved

This evening when I unlocked (as in, from the lock screen) my Verizon HTC One M8 it appeared that the Sense home screen was stuck between two panels. Icons and widgets were half way off the left side of the screen. I tried to move them over but it kept putting them back to the left. I swiped through my panels and all of them are like that. I tried to remove widgets/icons/panels but nothing has helped. I've also shutdown and rebooted to no avail. It seems like the panels have gone from being tall rectangles to squares. It's making my home screen impossible to use. Has anyone else ever had this problem?
Version: 1.12.605.11, s-off, rooted, TWRP, stock (only a few frozen bloatware). All of the modifications were made shortly after s-off was released, no changes made since then.
I have some screenshots that I'll post shortly.
Thanks.
Screenshots:
Removed to save personal bandwidth.
You could restore to the backup you made before doing any changes? Sounds like you froze the wrong thing. You could try unfreezing. If you have no backup you can download one or flash a Rom. All the high end roms work on all m8 variants.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Have you tried deleting them and replacing them?
EDIT: nevermind missed that in the OP. Try deleting the homescreen they're supposed to be placed on?
Solution Found
Thanks for the replies.
After trying a bunch of things, changing the font size seems to have reset everything to normal. A very odd bug, almost as if Sense was stuck in landscape mode while the display was portrait.

Need your help guys :)

Hey guys. For some strange reason i can no longer change my lockscreen wallpaper or the clock? I can make changes to the homescreen without any issues but it seems as if the lockscreen is defaulting to whatever i have on the homescreen!! If i go into themes and edit my current theme, the options are there and it appears to work fine in the sense that i can choose a lockscreen wallpaper and it says "wallpaper applied" and even shows as changed within the theme but it changes nothing! The only thing i can change on the lockscreen is the icons! This seems a bit odd given that i have gone through all the htc related apps and none have been updated nor have any changes been made! A reboot also was of no help nor was clearing the cache!
My flashlight no longer works either (although i never really used it so its possible it was like this since new) In order for it to work i have to open the camera app and close it each time i want to use the flashlight!!
Anyone any ideas?? More annoyed about the lockscreen issue then the flashlight
Anyone ??
anybody any idea?
Hello,
I know you would like some answers but XDA rules state you can bump your thread once every 24 hours, please be patient.
Thanks,

Honestly I've never had those issues and also don't remember reading about them. Something is borked on your phone. Done any mods? Might be time for a wipe.

Hello
Try wiping data and cache of HTC sense from setting, that might help you,
If that does not help try doing the factory reset, if the phone is completely stock
Backup before you do it, as factory reset will erase everything from the Phone including internal SD card
