The Energy ROM has the option to add a "send / receive email" button to the quicklinks. That makes for an easy one-touch way of checking for new emails. Unfortunately, I had lots of problems with that ROM and I had to go back to Dutty's ROM.
Is there a way for me to install a single cab that will give me the option to add the "send / receive email" button as a quicklink?
*push* I am looking for that button as well...

Hi,
Is it possible to "assign a ring tone" to a contact. I have looked but can't find the option.
Rob.
Select the contact you want to assign a ring tone to, then menu/ Edit, scroll down the list until you find RingTone a tap the stylus in the box, the pop-up contains your ringtone list, simply select the one you want - Mike
Mike,
I dont get the "ring tone" option for some reason when I go into the edit option.
Rob.
Rob, what make of device are you using?, when I select a contact then Menu/ Edit the following options are listed:
Name
Picture
Job title
Department
Company
Work tel
Work Fax
Work addr
IM
E-Mail
Ring tone
Web Page
Office loc
Home tel
Home addr
Categories
etc etc etc
11th entry in the list is RingTone, tap the stylus in the empty field to the right of Ring Tone and select your tune from the list - this works on both my HTC P3300 and T-Mobile Compact III - Mike
contact has to be in the phone, not at the SIM card...
Good Luck
With WM5, the softkeys were
Left softkey: New (text message)
Right softkey: Menu
after upgrading my Cingular 8525 to WM6 it is not that useful:
Left softkey: Delete
Right softkey: Menu
In effect, to create a new message I need to select Menu and then New.
Is it possible to assign New to the left softkey?

Nope, not if your talking about in the messages screen. You can, however, set a soft key on the today screen to New SMS.
this has been a problem since the leak of WM6, search around, can't remember if theres a solution or not because it doesn't bother me that much, most of the time i'm replying to texts.
Take a look here, and here.

Thanks for a quick answer. I have no idea why Microsoft decided that the typical action when going to Text Messages would be to delete a message and not write a new message. You may store hundreds of messages without noticing a dent in the available memory.
How to create a shortcut from the Today screen to New SMS or reassining one of the softkeys to this function?

Use softkey changer (attached). If it gives you the error "missing file tnsms" then drop the attached corresponding file in ur /windows folder.
Kiitos Karhu and thanks mcorrie1121. I will test your solutions.
The SoftKey.cab from the link in Karhu's post is the only thing needed. One item on the list of commands to assign to a softkey on the Today screen is "New SMS". Works perfectly.
If you do not mind one more tap you can also use WM5 New Menu - provides more options than just new SMS.
Hi guys,
I have a question for you. I use AE ButtonPlus and the Threaded SMS CAB Files from kin0kin.
I want to use the button 1 for SMS on single press and double press to open a new message.
I try to find the parameter but with no luck.
Here's my config.
Can anyone help me ?
Thanks
Edit #1: I tried -new -new message new message
But none of them work, is it possible they don't work because of PTT fix ?
Edit #2: I've found a work around based on the settings of HTC ActionScreen since it was working when I use the "New SMS" button. Here's the result, it's not the nicest thing since it call tmail.exe instead of messaging, but it work.
Hello
On my qtek 9000 and on my HTC PRO i was able to drag down my stylus, starting with the first msg i want to delete and highlighting all the messages as i drag downwards. Then click "delete" and delete all sms at once
In my HTC PRO2, there is no option to select all messages by drag down
only 1 message can be selected at once.
I noticed this behavior also in some HTC PRO ROMS, so i suppose there must be a registry value that allows or disallows selecting all sms at once by draging down
Is anyone aware of this?
I will appreciate any help, since i need to delete about 500 sms every day
Thank you
Best way is to slide the device open, hold the CTRL key down, and click each message you wish to delete.
Laborious I know

No, that's pretty darned accurate!! Mine is UK Vodafone version and says All/ All below/ several when you choose Select Messages from Menu. Easy peasy
Thanks
I know that
I also have found InboxExtender.CAB helps a lot (Deletes all messages with one click)
But why is scroll down selection disabled in some ROMS?
Can you select and highlight messages by scroll- drug down?

It's so that you can actually scroll with your fingers. For how much I scroll through messages and how little I select multiple messages, I'm happy. But, you can't please everyone.
Hello to everybody.
I'm trying to find out which is the fastest ROM ICS based for doing the following, where fastest means less number of touch on the screen or number of seconds before getting the desired result:
Call John Doe, when you have in the agenda also John Dui, John Ash, John Bone, John Cut and may be some other John as well as some more Doe (Albert, Stefan, Nat).
And then the same for opening the screen into input mode for sending him an SMS.
I used to have also Blackberry (oh yes, nice email reader but not very nice phone/smartphone), but with it, in every point of the user i/f calling John Doe would mean:
press the red button, press J, press space, press D.
I sow different behavior depending ont the ROM on the phone, but before trying all of them, if anyone can post his result it would be very appreciated.
thanks
Luca
Mate, you talking about speed dial or something?
As far as I'm aware there is no speed dial in the stock ICS or Sony dialers. Most if not all custom roms for ARC either use the Sony stock dialer or ICS stock dialer.
There are a few ways however that you can overcome this:
* On the dialer you can select "contacts", long press on someones name and select "add to favorites". Do this for every one you need. Then on the bottom right of the dialer, select "groups" then "star" on the top right. There will be a screen with all the people which you have added to "favorites". When you touch them you have the option of calling or SMS'ing them.
* You can also go to the Google Play Store and search for "speed dial" and download an app to set your friends on the speed dial list or speed dial widget if you want them on your screen. You can then call or SMS. Widgets are probably faster as you can have all people on the screen without opening dialer
* Probably not when your looking for but typing the first few letters of the name of the person on the dialer will bring up their name. You can touch once to call or press and hold the name for the option to send sms.
P.S You seem to have a lot of friends named John
The new ICS has a feature where you can start typing s name and it will narrow it down for you. Or just add them to favorites
@adielee
not speed dial, just a faster and intuitive dialler.
@irononreverse
something like this. May be the right question would be: which is the most intuitive and fast dialler, and feature rich?
I mean, press home button, touch receiver icon, then touch 5 (jkl), touch space, touch 3 (def)
I'm using today boosthd rom, and in the dialpad is not possible to touch "space" (may be I was not able to find the method)
Also in this rom, it is possible to order t9 selection based on name first or number first (by means of the option screen). But it is not possible to show ONLY name or ONLY numbers. This means that the list by touching 2-3 digits is really long.
anyone else have other ideas/solutions/suggestion?
thanks
Luca
I've been using Google Search app/widget for quick contact access on stock ROM, what I do is I limit searchable items in it's settings to just contacts, and when you start typing, it will act just like quick contacts search.
And you can always use voice search command, launch Voice Search and say "Call John Doe"
