You could try total commander or resco file explorer. It's more powerfull then windows explorer.

Is "pathfinder" an aftermarket app, or are you referring to the built-in file explorer? Also, are you giving it enough time to load? The windows folder on these phones can take quite a while to load in file explorer, there's a rediculous amount of files at the root level of that folder.
For now, it might just be quicker for you to connect to your PC via activesync and access the folder from there.

thanks for the ideas.. last night i gave it 2 hours to load the windows folder through file explorer.. now i downloaded total commander.. that works..

if you use the explorer installed in the phone you can wait till 10 minutes before visualize all the files contained in windows folder and the same time for close it, you can try to use total commander.
i had the same problem, with total commander you can open windows folder very quickly.
bye

Help with ZIP program on AT&T WM6...

Hey guys. I'm having this issue where, when I try and open a ZIP file on my 8525 w/ AT&T WM6, it says: "The central directory was not found in the archive (or you were trying to open a disk other than the last disk of a multi-disk archive)."
Downloading the file to my PC works just fine, so I've been transfering them either through USB or swapping the memory card in and out for now, but that gets annoying after a while.
It seems to have only started recently...but I fiddle with so many of the little .cab apps on here that I couldn't think of which one may have caused an issue with the ZIP program.
Anybody have any ideas as to how this could have started? Or how to fix it?
bump
i have the same issue.
I have had similar issues, only way to get around it was to use OPERA 8.65 and download the file, once downloaded in opera the .zip file opened fine.
I assume it may be some sort of incompatibility with pocket i.e.
cj
It shouldn't have anything to do with PIE because the file downloads fine. In fact, the same download opens fine on my desktop PC. Its only on my pocket PC that I get the error.
Somehow my ZIP program is not recognizing all the ZIPs in a certain directory. When i ask it to search for all ZIPs, it comes back with a small portion of those on my PDA.
Something is blocking the application from seeing all the ZIPs and opening them.
What program are you using to open them? Try something like Total Commander.
It really doesn't matter what program you use to open them (Total Commander, Windows Explorer, ZIP, etc.). When that program calls up the ZIP application, the error message appears.

Ditto. I tried Total Commander and it's the same story. I recently had to hard reset a couple of times (due to a bit of over zealous registry editing), and even on a fresh reboot of WM6 it still couldn't open but a small percentage of the zips I have on the storage card, so I no longer believe that it was .cab that did it to me. Maybe just an inherent design flaw? I dunno. I've tried the standard ZIP program that comes on the phone, Total Commander, Pocket RAR...nothing seems to work. It really sucks because I browse the site alot while I'm at work, but I have to wait until I get home to try anything new out because I can't open 90% of ZIP files on the phone. It kinda' sucks.
doesn't resco have a zip utility?
sorry i double posted that last entry.
same issue
I have had the same issue with mine. I thought I was going crazy! If I put the zip file on my storage card through my pc then it will work and will open, but if I download it on my 8525, it does not work. I am glad to know I am not going nuts.
Frustrated.
It seems Pocket Rar doesn't work either for many of the zips, and I am using 3.71.
Maybe I need to try a cooked rom.

I am new to phone pda's and this matter has bugged me from the very beginning.
Searching led me here and the post from cejay jogged my memory as familiar and I have definitely confirmed this:
Many files downloaded as .zip will not open either automatically or as standalone zips, using the htc zip app. If the exact same file is downloaded using Opera mini it then can be opened using the htc app.
I had also noticed that zip files that would not open on the pda when transferred to my pc opened perfectly there.
Try pocket Rar, never had any problems with it.

File Explorer broken?

Recently, using the File Explorer packed with the HTC TP2 Tmobile version, I tried to navigate to the Windows folder. It gave me the waiting symbol, and proceeded to stay like that for 5 minutes. I closed the file explorer, and reopened it. It opened in the Windows folder and immediately went unresponsive. I soft reset the device, opened the file explorer, and it opened again in the Windows folder and locked up. I can't seem to navigate away from the Windows folder to use my File Explorer at all. Any suggestions?
Edit: A hard reset is off the table.
File explorer isn't broken. This is a known issue. Just wait for it to build the windows directory, then navigate away from that folder. And use Total Commander; it's a lot faster.
I had the same problem, YOU CAN NOT BREAK FILE EXPLORER! THEREFORE ITS NOT BROKEN
Wait it out
I had the same problem but couldnt wait it out(tried waiting for 15 minutes).
changed value in registry:
HKCU/Software/Microsoft/File Explorer/ string "local path" from \windows to \

Manila files not visible in Windows

I know everyone is going to think this is the obvious thing. I have copied the manila file I want with Total Commander to various locations outside of the Windows directory, but I still can't see the files on my PC. They show up in the new locations on my phone using either Total Commander or File Explorer.
I have not had this problem prior to the new ROM that I loaded, see sig. Is it a ROM problem?
I got around this, by creating a zip file with Total Commander. the zip file was visible from my PC, and when I opened it the manila file was visible and usable, but it's not ideal to have to do this each time I want to get manila files to my PC. If anyone has any suggestions, why I wouldn't be able to see them using Windows 7 64-bit, that would be great.

Turn on 'show hidden files' and turn off 'hide protected operating files' in your folder view settings.

MTP Problems? Can't transfer files? Try this

If you've had this annoying problem, do the following:
Unplug your phone.
Reboot your machine.
Plug your phone back in.
Browse to the folder on your phone you would like to put you files in.
Switch Windows Explorer to "Details View" in the folder you just opened.
Then copy your files into the folder.
The lockup issue appears to be with Windows Explorer trying to build thumbnails as files are being copied to the phone. I spent hours messing around today with this and noticed the process stops as soon as explorer starts building thumbnails.
I've verified this fix to be working on 2 problematic phones with 2 separate Windows 7 x64 installs.

Transfering/Backing up files with timestamps

Hello,
I want to root my phone, but i have quite a bit of music under the "music" folder. Is there a way to copy/move this folder with the timetamps etc?
The reason i want time stamps to stick is for PowerAmp, as i like to sort the by lastest added etc!
I've tried Windows 7 Manager Super Copy, but doesnt like the way the phone is connected
Thanks
Sad time. This is why its said to unlock and root on first day, even if you keep it stock.
Hope you connect to pc and copy all those files. Then copy all back after root. Many hours...
yea might just have too!
