I've tried to mount the SD card through USB on my Kaiser and it's not detected in windows 7 X64. Well, it sees a removable drive but nothing is in it.
I have Super Eclair 2.1 and data is on the SD card using data.img. Pretty much everything else about my phone is in my sig.

That's what I'm thinking but I have no idea. What do people do to get their apps onto their SD card, without losing the ability to mount it through USB? BTW, Android is installed in NAND, but data is on the SD as data.img, if anyone was wondering.
try the SD split widget..there is a thread here on how to mount SD card using that. I use it and the SD card comes up just fine without any drivers on my windows 7 X64.
2nd option
use wifi file explorer...u can upload files using wifi..no wires...I like this one better!!

Is it called APP2SD? I'm not very good at finding threads, could you post a link?

To mount the card, reboot the phone, select recovery mode, plug in the phone and press enter and exit. It will boot normally and when it finish booting, the card will be mounted
Yes that is it!! It works perfectly. It mounts SD card not only in windows 7 but also in windows XP. I havnt tried it with Ubuntu but I m pretty sure it will work with Ubuntu as well.
I use myns 1.6 so not sure if it works on 2.1 or not! Please try and let us know.

Thanks that worked for me. Now when Android is running it mounts the SD card just fine.
In the vogue forums I found out that it's likely to be a kernel problem.
Everything is a kernel problem.

Hi,
I keep getting this error - Mounted Readonly.... the sd card has an unexpected problem.
I installed the NextSense 3.0 Rom earlier, it worked fine for a while until i installed some apps to the sd card and then this error kept appearing.
I searched for solutions and every one involved removing apps, especially task killer. I have removed everything and the problem persists. Does anyone know what the problem is?
Failing that i'm going to wipe everything and start again, can anyone tell me how to correctly wipe and repartition everything? The instructions I found to partition are:
"Partition SD" SWAP=0, EXT2=512, FAT32=<remaining>
then "SD:ext2 to ext3"
any advice would be great, thanks!

Not sure it's all that helpful, but I had the same problem with ieftm's Official 2.2 ROM. The problem seemed to go away after I connected via USB to my pc and selected the 'Disk Drive' option on selection type on my Desire. After I disconnected, all was good.
I had this problem also. So i just popped the card in my computer and reformatted it with Gparted (in linux). If you don't use linux, i'm sure you could still format it in windows to fat32, but then you'll need to create an ext partition via the phone.
thanks for the reply, thats what happened when the problem first occured. I had it connected as a disk drive to copy some apps to the sd card and after disconnecting it the error started.
i tried it all again nothing helps

thanks, i'll give that a try
I also had the problem when I tested ieftm 2.2 rom, I changed to another, using recovery to format and partition the SD card, and everything went back to normal.

Like i suggesetd before. Take the card out of the phone and plug it into an sdcard reader and format it that way.
I had that issue with some of the OTA ROMs apart from Pinky.
Just connect it to pc in disk drive mode and then remove safely in windows and then select charge only and remove cable. should be fine.
I had the same problem and I repaired it with Windows Vista Tools. Right click in the drive letter, Properties, Tools and Check Disk.
It solved some problems and it worked fine in the phone.

I had to format my whole card, the Win7 repair function doesn't work for me...
based on my experience, this issue occurs if you don't do reboot after the first boot. so after you install the rom, when it asks you to set the language, reboot your phone again. after that then complete the setup process.

This happened also to me with ieft ROM. I did a few reboots before this happens to me. I tried some workarounds that people say in this thread with no luck. When connecting the phone to the PC, phone did not give me the option to mount the sdcard like disk drive. In the end, I'm formatted sdcard, deleting ext3 partition.
I'm using ap2sd of Froyo with "Mod Install Location" app from market. And this works fine. I have no problems with space in internal memory.
the quickest way i solved this problem was to unmount the micro sd card under the SD & phone storage options then remount it again. thats how i solved it, hope it helps.

better make a list of all possible ways to fix this prob i suppose, starting from easiest to hardest.
I have fixed this issue with the wipe of the dalvik cache! Try this!
I had the same issue. Copied everything across from the SD Card to a temp folder on my PC (Win 7 x64) then it came up with a copy error from one android.temp file, I skipped it, copied everything, formatted to FAT32 then copied everything back across and the issue was fixed.
Maybe something had locked that file and corrupted it perhaps?

When it happened to me it was a corrupted app. I had downloaded an app from a site and put it on my card. I don't think it downloaded all the way, and messed it up. But the way I fixed it was moving apps and formatting the card.
Please help, I tried searching the forums and couldn't find a solution.
I formatted my SD-Card (1GB) on WinMo using the dedicated app, however when I go to boot Android but now it no longer reads my card and am unable to use SD-card dependant apps such as Spotify or Gallery.
What should I do?
I deleted the image file to see if that would work but still the same problem.

Yes, and preferably don't use the built-in Windows way either. There's the HP format tool, and a lot of people have had success using gparted...
i thought that must be the way to be?
since u booted android from microsd. so android thinks that the whole microsd is the system boot. hence its not detected as SD to android.
to fix, nid to create 2 partition on the microsd itself. 1 is ext2 and another is fat32. in this, android should be able to detect the fat32 as SD mount.
Hey guys,
A friend of mine gave me his desire to root and flash a rom, while I was partitioning the SD card - everything went well (I used a windows app to create the partitions while the desire was plugged in in USB mode.
All went well until I disconnected it after the process was complete - now the phone nor PC detects the card.
What are my options?
Cheers

OK this is unusual, I managed to boot into recovery and mount the SD and sd-ext without any issue - I even booted into a custom rom I flashed from SD, but I still can't get the phone to detect it when booted.

OK I managed to get it fixed - seemed like an issue with the partition - I used recovery to mount USB storage (it worked) and I re partitioned it and it is now functioning correctly.
Cheers guys and thanks a lot everyone for their inputs !

the sdcard is detected by CWM as I installed the rom and mods through that -- only that once the rom and everything is installed and when I boot into it -- I don't see the sdcard -- says Mount SDcard under -- settings > storage -- and the button is greyed out !!
will deleting all partitions and creating new ones have any effect on it using disk manager in windows ?
ohh and another thing -- when the SDcard is replaced with another one it works on the fone !!

Use the Windows drive manager to delete the partition on the MicroSD, do not reformat it with windows, plug it into the phone, and attempt to mount, it should do so but with 0 space now. Format it with the phone. Or look for the tool "fat32format" on the internet (Google is your friend) in order to force a format in FAT32.

You can have all your mp3's, videos, movies, pictures and documents plus backups of the rom and new roms or other
stuff but you just cannot use it to install apps until one of the devs finds a way to create a compatible app which will allow
for app installation on external sd.
Something similar to the apps2sd app which is not compatible with the S4.
Perhaps the developer of that app will upgrade it making it compatible with our phones.

Google it and look it up,
Ever since windows xp fat32 was always the default when formatting usb flash drives(memory sticks) and sdcards.
Right now I am running windows 8 but I ran all the other prior versions of windows including windows xp.
When formatting hard drives, even external usb hard drives then windows (all versions) default to NTFS.
I never seen any versions of windows operating systems defaulting to exFAT.

Well not in that sense but let's say if you would like to play a video or a song you have saved in your 64GB card. Does it still play it right away or have you experienced any slow downs? Someone who i know that works closely with phones informed me that it slows down the phone when loading files such as mp3 files or video files. Thanks dude.
