Hey guys,
I just got a tilt 2 and have been checking out all the stuff I can do with this phone. I tried using the fm radio application when I first started the stock att rom and it didn't seem to work.
Thinking nothing of it, I went ahead and flashed the energy rom to get some of the nicer things like sense ui.
Anyways, with the new rom, fm radio still doesn't work. Opening it just gives me the 'unexpected error' with no reason. I've tried installing power radio to see if an alternate application would work. Power radio gives me an error that it can't open the radio and it may not be supported.
Anyone know how to fix this? I'd like to be able to use the fm radio on my phone =(
I believe only the Tmobile version has the FM radio. So it would be the Touch Pro 2, not the Tilt2 that has the radio.
My Tilt 2 has a radio on stock ROM. It works fine as long as wired headphones are attached to be used as an antenna.

See, that's the thing. With the stock rom, it had the FM radio application. I tried using it with some headphones and it still gave me the 'unexpected error' message.
Oh.. then I might have just misinformed you. My apologies..

My Tilt2 will actually tell me to plug in headphones if they aren't, as it uses the wire for the antenna.
Aside from that, I do know that the bluetooth drivers have something to do with the FM radio, did you install tomtom or another app that may have overwritten the bluetooth stack? I recall an older version of tomtom doing that to me, can recall if the error was the same, but the app would look like it was starting up and then crash. The problem went away when I flashed a new energy rom. I have since been careful about installing anything that might mess with the bt drivers.
Tilt2 FM Radio
I had the same problem with the radio not working when I first got my Tilt2. I also had a bunch of other programs screwing up. I tried settings, etc. Nothing worked. Talked to [email protected] for hours, What a waste, they are idiots. Finally, even though it was brand new I did a hard reset. This fixed everything. Haven't had a problem since.

I did install tomtom, which did give me the bttrayce.exe error that some have encountered. However, I found the fix for that by installing the new bluetooth files that some have found to work. My bluetooth seems to work OK.
Could I have not done something properly? Is tomtom still screwing with my fm radio?
Well, I solved the problem. I did a hard reset on my phone. (and upgraded to the latest energy rom while I was at it) FM radio works now!
I don't know if it was tomtom or some other anomaly, but it works now... I haven't reinstalled tomtom yet, so I don't know....
Can you please post the link to the rom you installed as i have the same problem with no clue how to solve it
For my HTC Tilt 2, the solution to the failure ("Unexpected Error") when trying to start fmradio.exe was make sure that BTTtrayCE.exe is running.
I had removed the shortcut to BTTrayCE from startup since I very rarely use a BT headset and never use any other BT functions.

Hey there,
I'm having a problem with the bluetooth on my desire...
I'm running stock android 2.2, unrooted...
The phone seems to work totally fine, but the bluetooth refuses to connect to my car kit... it has worked fine from day one and now all of a sudden it connects for a few seconds and then disconnects, and then when you go into the bluetooth settings to re-connect it, the menu just hangs... if you leave it for a few seconds the phone then reboots...

THANK YOU so much! That looks like it'll do the trick, now my only problem is how the eff do I install it? I've tried to copy it to the root of the mem card but it looks like the recovery thing on my phone is toast... even though it's got stock firmware on it...
Will it be easier to root the phone?
Ok, I am now Rooted and running LeeDrOiD 2.2f which apparently includes the Bluetooth fix as mentioned above...
But the problem persists...
It's definitely not the radio, because it pairs and works perfectly with another phone.
Any other ideas?

Which bluetooth fix is implemented in leedroid? I would rather recommend you a cyanogenmod 6.1 ROM, or a ROM that's built on CM. For me this fix implemented there has worked. FYI, CM are AOSP and without sense.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
The fix is "[MOD][21-July] Fix Bluetooth CarKit disconnection" and apparently fixes the issue...
Hmm, I kinda like the sense interface so would be sad to see it go...
My Desire also has a bluetooth problem in connecting with my car. Not the disconnections, but phonebook/callist access fails. Installing an AOSP Rom (or MIUI) fixes the problem, but I do like sense too.
I've concluded the sense-bluetooth stack is the culprit, however I don't have the knowledge to change the stack. Thus, I'll wait until somebody has fixed it or HTC updates the stack or until I'll buy a new phone
I am happy to say that the problem is gone when using Cyanogen Mod 6.1.0
It doesn't transfer the phone book, but the phone function works... so I'm happy...
Just have to now get used to android without sense... hmmm...

Hi, as i am having the same issue and dont really want to use a Cyanogen rom , before i do what vehicle did you get it to work with.
cheers
It was with a Pioneer DEH-P710BT head unit with built-in bluetooth...
The strange thing is that it worked absolutely perfectly for MONTHS and now all of a sudden is giving problems...
It is however, definitely the phone giving the problem because the head unit pairs perfectly with any other phone, and when using the cyanogen mod rom, the desire works perfectly with it.
If your GPS isn't working with your new ROM, then try this method. It has worked for me for every ROM I've used with a problem connecting to GPS. I've seen the problem posted in several ROM threads, and instead of posting it in each one and having it get lost in the hundreds of pages of posts, I figured I'd start a new one which might be searched for a little more easily.
- Open 'Settings' and go to 'Applications'. Choose 'Manage Applications'.
- Choose 'Running Apps'
- Find the 'Maps' app and open it. Click 'Force Stop' and choose 'Clear Data'.
- Go back to your app drawer and open 'Maps'. It will have you check off the disclaimers. Close it after you have done this.
- Open your 'Navigation' app and check off the disclaimers there. It should connect after that.
Like I said, this has worked for every ROM I've tried with a problem connecting to GPS. I don't know why it works, but it does.
tags: gps not working, gps won't connect, gps issue, broken GPS
Didn't solve my GPS issue...which is that it doesn't toggle on what so ever.
Each new nightly I flash, I have to push an old gps.vision.so in order to get my gps to toggle on and off again.
Thanks anyway.
edit: No app on the market will make my GPS work...That is the type of GPS problem that I and some others are having.
try install the gpxfix or gps status from the market.. work well for me..
Same here...this didnt help.
Also installing GPS status did not help either.
As discussed in the nightlies thread, Cyanogen presumeably updated a crucial library responsible, among other, for GPS functionality which requires the/a new radio.
This also could explain why some users while having identical devices to other users do have GPS while others dont. They simply did upgrade the radio already earlier while the ones which are stuck with a bon-working GPS didnt and are still on the original radio, an "old" one in regards to the prerequisites of the "new" library added to the build.
Makes sense?

Yep...this is 100% correct.
And for what its worth, I went a head and flashed the new radio again just too see if in fact it does fix the GPS and yes it does.
Back to the T-Mobile US OTA radio and the gps.vision.so from Nightly #4 or earlier.
not 100% correct, i have the new radio and still have the gps problem... i've seen at least one other person with the same.
But i'm using a Bell Desire Z, maybe thats why

Did you happen to use the app 'GPS Status' to check your gps after you upgraded? If not, what was the first gps application that you opened after you upgraded to CM7, if you can remember?
Scratch that....just reflashed the radio and nightly 13. Gps works a charm now! Thanks

Im on the stock ROM and have a problem. I think the GPS on these phones are messed up big time. Here is my problem.
stock rom with ota update and ota update radio= no GPS AT ALL it will just stick there blinking tryin to get a fixed signal but it wont! Happens in alll my GPS app not just maps.
So I downgraded my radio to the pre-ota one and GPS gets a fix but takes a minute or so.. after that I can leave the app and come back and itll refix itself within 5 seconds (what it should be normally).. So even downgraded I still have slight issues with gps.. plus for some reason if I loose signal for more than 5 mins on this radio it wont ever get a signal unless I reboot.
Im going to try your method but dont think itll work since my problem is not Maps specific.
EDIT: this seems to have worked, even on my the ota radio. I just dont understand why Maps would break GPS for all apps. Funny things is when something like this usually happens I clear app data but didnt do it here because it was all my GPS apps.
I'm glad it has worked for a couple people anyway. I don't know what the problem is that causes this, but it has worked on the ROMs I've flashed, so I figured it might be a good step to take before updating radios and things like that. Just in case the solution is as simple as just stopping Maps and clearing the data... If you have done more modification to your phone beyond just flashing ROMs, then this may not work for you since the problem may be bad radios or other issues. If you are just a ROM flasher without tweaking too much else, then this may solve your problemo.

I used to not have GPS issues either - european Desire Z btw - having said that, CM7 #14 breaks with that uuhm... tradtion. It's the first build giving me no GPS unless a new-ish (the 26.04 and 26.06 works) radio is flashed.
So wat is the new radio, I recently flashed a different radio but I'm not sure if its the latest radio out. Thx

Hi,
My GPS stopped working.
After much research and several tests, changing radio\RIL, stock rom.... could not get the GPS working.
Some time ago, after a long time just picking up one satellite, now does not get any.
Is there any tool or application to test the hardware?
Thanks.
rom do you use?
I noticed this with CM7.1.
The stock rom I tested was the latest 2.3.5 OTA.
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17081413
Hi,
I tried this with the stock rom and did not work.
I tried with CM7.1 and still not show any satellite.
Sugestions?
Just for the record:
Radio - 27.14.04.28_M
Have the same issue
I like Cyanogen 7.1, but it seems that the gps doesn't work on DHD. Too bad, because it is a really good rom. I have radio 26.10.04.03_M. The same thing as described by others happen:
I turn on the gps, it start searching, and then it stops and the icon disappears even that the gps is still showed as being turned on
My case is different.
Worked for me several months without problems, and fast.
But stop working.
Someone?
I've tried modifying hardware (antenna), changing to stock rom, tried some different radios, editing gps.conf....
I do not know what else to do.
Anyone know some software to test the GPS hardware?
Have you tried changing the NTP servers?
Changing the NTP servers is part of the link spikey001 posted.
Have you tried flashing agps? I haven't got a thread to point you too but there is one in the DHD ROM section. There are about 6 different gps things you can flash, hopefully one of them will work.

You mention that your GPS used to work. Have you recently dropped your phone? It's possible that the GPS antenna contacts might not actually be making contact anymore (either through trauma or just plain old age)? If none of the SW fixes get your GPS working then perhaps you might actually have to do a HW mod?
See this thread for a HW fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318892
Don't worry, it's not as scary as it looks!
Hi,
sounds like what mine did.
Tried software and even made the fysical contact better for the gps-module itself.
No luck.
The solution for me was to buy a new gps-module on ebay for 5-10 us$.
Worked like a charm.
Good luck!!
Thanks for all the help.

I've tried the agps reset/download and no luck.
mrlooneytoon
The phone did not fall, just stopped working.
I've tried the HW fix but did not work, still no satellites.

I can not find the gps-module on Ebay, can you help me?
same issue after upgrading to...
same thing happened to me after upgrading to ICS rom and since am not using it that much, just ignored it and wait for the devs to fix it...now waiting for the wifi fix of blackout ICS
I'm having, to be fair, a small issue not found on the stock Rom. So if anyone has an idea what it is or how to fix it. Very much appreciated.
Right, I use my phone to play music in my car (Toyota prius) through Bluetooth. I've done so for a year or so one my desire hd. Then a few weeks ago I switched to the one x. Stock Rom, connecting to Bluetooth was fine. Reconnecting as well. And now the issue: I can connect for the first time (pairing), but when I try to reconnect it won't work. I have to delete (unpair) the connection and recreate it before able to use it again. So whenever I loose the connection, the only way the establish it again is to re-pair the connection. I've tried with 6.20 and with the new 6.40 version. I've went back to stock and working correctly then again. Full wipes.. multiple times. Yet I can't find any posts searching for it so I must be missing something.
Appreciate the help. Currently enjoying leedroid 6.40 very much as battery live is just amazing (worth the hassle of this bt issue).
Ps. Just don't tell me it's some button I forgot to press... If that's the case, I'll /facedesk myself a few times ;-)

Hiya mate,
I think this problem could be on the new stock rom too. Someone's posted in the General Forum along exactly the same lines...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694096
Connecting my One X to my BT car radio always worked fine. After installing 1.29 however I have problems. When connecting, it connects for a couple of seconds and then BT and Data shut down. I get the warning that there is a problem with Com.android.phone
I have to restart the phone to get back my data connection.
Anyone have any suggestion?

Cheers, I also tried different kernels, but nothing.
We'll see in the future, it's no biggy.
Hello,
quite a few months ago, I bought an HTC Desire phone. I got it for a quite nice price and I have chosen it because of its superb build quality and the cool display. BUT, just recently, I found out that both GPS and FM radio do NOT work
Well, now it is just a little too late to send it back, so I was hoping for this to be some software problem. Hence I decided too put a custom ROM on the phone.
So, I decided to put the AOKN or whatever the name, sorry, can't remember it... But still the GPS test app is showing 0 satellites. As in this ROM, there is no FM radio app, I have downloaded one from Google Play, but unfortunately still nothing.
Kindly let me know if there is something I could try, or the hardware itself is damaged... ?
Flash the 2.3.3 GB RUU to get it back to complete stock.
If the GPS and radio still don't work on full stock firmware, then you have hardware issue
(Make sure you do these tests outside and with headphones plugged in respectively)
Many thanks for your reply! I have started from 2.3.3 originally! Why do you think that it makes sense to go back to this version ?
I am testing the radio with the headphones plugged in, of course, about the GPS, I didn't test it outside, but other people tested it on the same phone and it didn't work and that's it :-/

It makes perfect sense to go back to stock to test hardware.
- Stock official firmware has no bugs regarding GPS and FM radio
- If GPS and FM radio do not work with stock official firmware, then you can rule out a software issue. It is very likely a hardware issue. You can then stop trying to 'fix' the problem by flashing custom ROMs...(these particular problems are radio related anyway)
You still need to test the GPS outside for sure....forget about custom ROMs / stock firmware etc. Apply the laws of logic and physics first...first your GPS must be ON (check it), and importantly your phone has to actually be able to 'see' the satellite above for it to work in the first place..............
For a sanity check, you should also perform the test with another working phone / GPS device at the same time to see if it picks up a signal, and if the Desire doesn't.
