Is there an app on the market like iContact from Supware for WinMO?
http://supware.net/iContact/
The option of getting the alphabet and then jumping to the letter M for example was really great.
Contacts Search
Hi, I used icontact with my diamond and am now using gesture search on my desire. If you do a search for itsure I got it from the market, although may have been google labs.
you can jump to M by touching the bar on your right and then sliding it down. then you can see that it skips contacts and you can easily go to the one you want

Well Gesture seems to be a very easy app. Jumping straight to the letter you want is much easier than scrolling and hoping you stop at the letter you want. Thx iain2510

I find myself using the internet to read the news mainly on my XDA Orbit. but the IE browser sucks real bad. does anyone know of a good mobile browser.. i would like to be able to scroll by dragging the screen with my finger... i tend not to use the stylus for anything nowadays... but scrolling with my finger nail proves dificult sometimes..... tabbed browsing would be nice but not essential

What is the easiest way for my kids to be able to use the SMS app without openning the keyboard, and by using the onscreen keyboard in landscape, like an iphone, kinda.
We are all on the NRG roms, 21xxx with HTC Messaging Client installed.
I added the "all messages" page into g-config but it does not rotate in any of the SMS chats. My guess is that i have to add every SMS page to g-config?
There has to be an easier way to get any SMS/MMS to open in landscape just by rotating the phone?
I use BSB Tweaks. It allows you to rotate any program and it is very easy to use. You select the rotation feature in BSB, go to the program , then shake the phone. Just search for it here, it's a free app.
or use rhodium keyboard control and assign screen rotation to any key.

Yea exactly, that's what I did. Probably the Push to Talk button, that's the one I use for it. The shake feature does seem kind of cool to rotate it. But at the same time, let's say you're in public and people see you randomly shake your phone... might look a little odd
Hi all,
maybe this has been addressed somewhere already, but I haven't found it.
In stock Eclair there was a "hide" button on the onscreen keyboard. In all of the Sense Froyo ROMs I've used, there is a "change keyboard layout/language" button instead. Now if I want to hide the keyboard (e.g. to access controls that are under it) I have to either push the menu button or click somewhere outside a text control. This approach is rather clumsy, the "hide" button was much more useful.
Is there a way to restore this "hide" button? Or does someone has an apk of the Eclair sense keyboard that would work with Froyo?
Thanks
I think you need to search for HTC ime mod. HTC keyboard for stock android.
Push the back button and the keyboard disappears
I do know what Sigismund83 means and it's quite frustrating, I've only just got used to hiding the Keyboard by using the back button, but I wish there was a quick-hide button like there was prior to upgrading to Froyo. I've even had a dabble in the Android's keyboard, but the keyboard is too tall and when I'm creating an sms, I'd like to read over what I had prior and it's difficult to do so.
Gonna check out HTC IME Mod to see if that's any good.
Actually perfect! I've got it exactly how I want it after a few minutes of faffing about..
Sigismund83, you can download the keyboard from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416
And the settings I use to make it look like Stock IME are as follows..
I deselected "Show candidates bar" and got rid of the "Smiley hack" within the User Interface by [email protected] and it was perfect.
Hope this helps
Oh and before I forget, if you've got Dropbox, best thing to do is upload the apks there then use the Dropbox app to download and the phone will prompt to install. But if you're not lazy (unlike me), just shove them on the memory card and install with ASTRO.

This sure works too, but I'll look for the apk anyway. I was kinda used to this button (similar was also in WinMo devices). But I might as well change my habits
Worked

YAY! Thank you very much, this one worked. Now the keyboard behaves exactly as I want.
You're welcome mate, anytime!

Hi,
I don't like the word prediction on the standard HTC keyboard. If Itype a word that's not in the dictionary, I can either change it to the word the prediction suggests, or insert + save the word I typed in.
the problem is, sometimes I DON'T want the word saved, like it's a one-time-use word. the prediction on the android keyboard was much better; tap the word once to insert, tap another time to save. (but I like HTC keyboard's symbols-handling better)
any way to get this "tap twice to save" on the HTC keyboard too?
btw does anyone have a download link to android keyboard?
edit: oh and is it possible to turn off the "buggy" text reflow in the web browser?
Tap twice to save is not possible afaik with the standard HTC keyboard. However, if you search for the HTC_IME mod by some guy called Jonas, you will find a modded version of the keyboard which you can configure somewhat into the direction you described. Root isn't required for this keyboard btw.
Good luck!

When I first laid eyes on the 3 quick keys, I was unhappy with them. I have since grown to like them, and would like to know what everyone else has assigned theirs to do?
I'm trying to figure out how to assign one of them to open a new message, with no recipient. Anycut allows for "direct message" short cuts, but they can only be to a signle contact. Does anybody know how to create a custom anycut shortcut to compose a new SMS using intents?

I'm thinking about making 2 and 3 quick keys for left and right arrows. I find it very hard to edit long text/e-mails with this keyboard. ( I really miss my TP2 keyboard)
That's a good idea. Is it doable?

1 = Google Voice Search
2 = Email
3 = Messaging
Would prefer to assign both 2 & 3 as spacebar keys since the spacebar feels a little far from my right thumb. Anyone know how to do this?

1. Home (using launcher pro)
2. Chomp SMS
3. Btunes
