Today I stumbled across booting into safe mode with the HTC Desire, simply start the phone and hold down the menu button.
What exactly is the safe mode on the Desire ?
And more interestingly what other options exist to make changes when it's booting. I think i heard that you can see the kernel output somehow, that would be nice...

Hello folks,
I installed the following rom today. Knowing that its a developer rom I realy wanted to try it out. And its working like a charm, but...
now i got 1 problem.
I cant get into the boot menu anymore.
Normally I had to press (power + volume down) to get into the boot menu. Its not responding anymore when i press those buttons.
But the power button also reacts completely different now.
Before I had to press the power button shortly to start the operating system. Now i have to hold it for a little while (which is of course very good, prevents from accidentally starting your device when its for example in ur pocket).

Any ideas how i can still get into the boot menu?
I got s-off and hboot data++
Thanks in advance.
Hi
Try Backbutton and Power or pull the battery and test it again whit power + vol down.
Pulling the battery out seemed to do the trick. Any idea how come? Do i have to pull out the battery everytime i want to go in boot modus now (as some sort of protection) or was the system just stuck?
Anyway thanks a lot!
Edit: Yes it seems that i have to pull out the battery everytime now. But the operating system seems to be starting a looooot faster.
i have the same Problem whit my Device- If i make it S-off i come never in my Recovery- Only whit (Phone On) Powerbutton > Reboot > Recovery - or - Pull Battery
So you can't reach bootloader from phone off by using the volume down and power buttons pressed together and held for a few seconds - without pulling the battery first?
That's odd.
I think this standard entry to bootloader should remain the same regardless if any rom you flash, as flashing roms doesn't touch the bootloader at all.
Sounds like it might be fastboot doing this - Settings, Applications, Fastboot tickbox.
If checked, I see the same behavior as what you've described here.
If I take the tick out of the box, booting takes longer, but I can get into recovery/bootloader every time.
Hey,
The issue is that the screen is blank and goes on a boot loop because the volume down button on the volume rocker is continuously pressed.
Because of which the phone doesnt allow android revoluntion to boot at all..
Always goes to the HBOOT menu from which if i click the power button it goes into bootloader mode but windows shows
QUALCOMM CDMA driver instead of the correct drivers.....
it doesnt show the correct driver.
Then i tried adb after removing the battery again.
i typed
adb devices
(once it found the devices)
adb shell
recovery.
now the screen comes alive and shows my 4ext recovery console.
The biggest problem here is the volume button not allowing me to boot into a ROM.
Is their a way to disable that or is it something else that i have done that i am not even able to revert to stock rom in
BOOTLOADER mode??
I thought it was a SLCD because i saw this post
http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/215886-solved-desire-slcd-black-screen-bricked.html
But i realised that the above was for Desire and NOT of DHD.
I cannot even see the HBOOT menu. I somehow managed to get to the recovery becos of the shell command by adb.
What am i to do??
Can someone please help?

I fixed it....everythings in working condition now...
I just took a twesers and removed the volume rocker from its housing by pulling the cable under the manufacturing sticker.
And then suspected that putting it back in its place would make it go back to the same state again but i hasnt for now...
It wasnt showing the HBOOT menu as the volume down button was constantly pressed instead of being released.
I wish i would have just done it sooner but anyways phewww.....
So I was flashing ICS and thought I had a bootloop with the XPERIA logo displayed when I pressed the power & VOL down to hard reset the screen blinked & a viberate then the phone entered SAFE MODE. I did a search and found info for other phones (even my old X10 had it and I didnt know) but no info on the ion.
EDIT: I just finished the setup in safe mode and then rebooted. Everything was fine after reboot.
EDIT2: I was pressing wrong buttons
During boot power&vol down gets safe mode. Power& vol up is hard reset.
All I have found out is, Safe mode only loads system apps. No user apps are loaded
To enter safe mode press and hold power & volume down buttons during boot.

Almost all Android devices have a safe mode. It's just a matter of how to access it. Well...Stock OS anyways. Not 100% sure on Custom roms. On my old HTC Inspire, you accessed it by holding the back button until full boot was complete. Then upon unlocking the screen, it said "safe mode" down in the bottom right corner.
Why Safe mode ? if you suspect that some app is causing a problem or you are testing your original(stock apps), this mode disables most apps that are not included in the system. to diagnose your phone/view hardware specs you can dial *#*#3424#*#* (*#*#DIAG#*#*)
How ?Restart your phone when the screen lights up hold the volume down button until the phone boots completely and you should be in safe mode.
You can confirm it if it says SAFE MODE in bottom-left corner.
How to turn it off ? Simply reboot your phone
Cheers !
Have you found and used the Hidden Menu function of the LG G3? Opened up Device Test, but stuck in MiniOS with a blank screen that has a circle with a + in the middle for each part of the screen you touch? Can't get into recovery mode? Got into recovery mode, but don't know how to get it to work?
Well I have done my research, and had my fair share of panicking thinking that I had bricked my phone because none of the advice online matched up perfectly. But if you have made that mistake yourself, here is how to unbrick and reset your phone.
1. Start your phone up by holding onto both the power button and the buttom volume key. When the logo pops up, let go for a second, and hold onto both buttons again. This should bring up the option to reset your phone. Agree to both prompts.
2. You should be on a new screen. It may warn you not to touch the screen because it is calibrating or testing it. You will have to press OK, and then give it a few seconds to do that bit.
3. The screen should have a list of options at this point (some of which say "+power) on them. If you want to use any of these options, you need to hold the power button, and then press that option on the screen. Press "normal boot (+power)" (don't forget to hold the power button at the same time). This should put your phone back to normal, and set it up again just like it came out of the box.
Hope this helps someone.
