Can you get Freeview tv on the desire?
If so how do you get it?
I have unlimited Internet with T-Mobile
You can get an app called Beebplayer, which is all of the BBC Channels, and Radio station, plus the have catchup on there too.
As for full freeview, I don't think we'll get that until Flash 10.1 is available to us, the you should be able to use the TVCatchup.com services on their website.

Talking of which, I read on their forums that there was talk of an Android app/version/something but with now ETA to date.
Nope - to receive Freeview the phone would need a DVB-T receiver and decoding chip, and it has neither. It maybe be possible to stream some of the Freeview channel in various ways (flash through the web browser, or with apps like beebplayer), but its not really the same. A slingplayer app could possible achieve this too (again by streaming the channels, but in this case from your own TV/PC etc), though I doubt if there is one for Android yet.
An external freeview tuner would be great, but I'm not holding my breath.
mobile tv
I think you better use this one is BEST

It is designed for windows mobile
or see the other post about TVCATCHUP.COM, they now have a bigger tv stream compared to YAMGO and also better quality.

I find that TVCatchup doesn't really work too well. but Yamgo is fine.
YMMV of course.

does any one know a good TV app for android ??
i used to use beebplayer for BBC - but the arseholes over at BBC stopped it.
same goes for MyPlayer.
is there anything out there where we can stream TV from the main UK channels like ITV, Channel 4, Five or any other free to view channels
gets a bit boring searching youtube waiting for someone to upload last weeks TV shows...
theres gotta be something... Im desperate... Horrible nasty iphone users get these sort of things what about us...
I use tvcatchup web site. Works very well on 2.2.1 at least
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I also use the mobile tvcatchup site although I would like a dedicated app version better.
Or just go to the main websites and view the episodes from there espically if your on 2.2.1.
it only work's when iam connected to a wifi network for me
yes same for me thats the only downside.. when im out and about its forever buffering at home its great.... but im sat in front of the TV anyway lol
I created this post a few months back
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847968
Fair enough you want an app but if you want decent quality its best via the sites. Sadly BBC you have to use tvcatchup which is a shame
tell me about it i can get in anywhere i want, tv , net, even on my ps3. if only they made an official app i would happily pay for it...
then again no doubt it would class as an extra tv and charge us for a tv license B***ARDS
AS i understand it the pressure is coming from the networks they want BBC to pay some of the costs involved in transmitting the data stream .
Mplayer and Beebplayer two old apps still work but not as well as
IPlayer

Just wanted to share my experience today I bought this app since I own HD Homerun while having it on Kodi with PVR was nice it required a server computer to be running while watching.
Just wanted to let all guys know that the app costs 2.99$ (it's not mine of course I wish I was that skilled) everything works amazingly with fire REMOTE there is only one small issue in order to hit PLAY you must use mouse, I emailed dev asking him about this so it might be fixed soon!
How it works? it uses MX player or VLC media player to play the live channel ( my ISP is Verizon fios ) and channels stream usually around 18 mbps on lan in HD.
My Setup is:
Ethernet Cable
Homerun TV
VLC Media player (newest extracted from playstore) sometimes screen gets black it might be VLC issue (did not try with MX Player)
I'd say it's worth 2.99$ quality over VLC media player is great as well!
Update Feb 06 2015
Small Tips:
In order to play channel you must USE mouse to point it to "play button"
Set VLC media player to "Full hardware accelaration"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zaren.HomeRunTV&hl=en
Stream live TV from your HDHomeRun device to your phone or tablet. (Unprotected, copy freely channels only)
This application will allow you to stream live TV to your android phone or tablet. It can be streamed to your device in 1 of 2 ways.
1. Directly from the hdhomerun to your device. This requires a strong network connection to your device (wireless N recommended) and a powerful enough device to decode 1080i video.
2. Through the HdhomerunStreamServer. This uses VLC to transcode the video to a lower bandwidth.
you're telling me you can stream HD smoothly with this app? It's been a couple months since I tried it when it first was released for the Fire TV, and any HD channel caused severe stuttering. I'm on a wired GBe LAN as well. That'd be great if an update to the app fixed this.
UPDATE: Nevermind, I was referring to the app released by Silicon Dust themselves.

Yea the silicondust app is very laggy.
This one streams without a SINGLE lag because it uses MX Player or VLC.
Make sure to sideload VLC media player.
I asked the dev about placing the play button somwhere else. We'll see what happens.
Streams perfectly.

If you don't mind me asking, what setup were you using with Kodi (e.g. server OS, server software, HDHomeRun configuration, etc.). I've got the HDHomeRun Plus / Extend and have not had a lot of luck settings things up.
I tried using TVHeadEnd on an Ubuntu server and Kodi running the TVHeadEnd plug-in. It streams fine only some of the time, but I get frequent crashes, especially when changing channels. In addition, I could not get any PVR functionality to work, nor have I been able to get h.264 transcoding from the HDHomeRun to work.
I then tried using MythTV, but could not get the Kodi MythTV plugin to work -- it would show the stations, but not be able to connect to the streams. (I also had trouble getting the MythTV server configured with the HDHomeRun, but that's not really related to the Fire TV.)
Thanks.

I don't use any PVR's I simply use Homerun TV and watch it via the app (I added shortcut in Kodi) so it's faster to open it.
I have a HDHomerun plus, adding the dlna server source of the HDHomerun to the files under videos is by far the best quality live streams I have gotten.
Regarding PVR with the Hdhomerun plus, I tried the same things. I finally said forget it and got a simple TV for $100 on woot with lifetime sub. It actually works much better than the reviews led me to believe. I access the recordings through plex.

I'm missing something. I have it installed, but how do I play a stream? When I click on the channel it takes me to a stream diagnostics screen (signal strength, etc.) How do I play it? Thanks!

Here is the trick... you must use "mouse" to point it to play button.
I emailed the DEV and asking him if he can somehow in future make it "play-able" via REMOTE.
Every other part of the app works fine with remote.

I found out a few days ago that you can adjust the quality stream in the actual HDhomerun view app. When the app is open just keep on pressing the menu button rapidly until the settings comes up then you can select the stream quality.
Also I had a Amazon gift card to burn so I actually bought InstaTV Pro. It comes up as a free app but it is by no means a free app. It cost $10 (which bites) because it has to download codecs. However it works very well.
Hi All.
the purpose of this thread is to combine all the information we have about watching Live TV on our devices.
I'm purposely avoiding Kodi addons, they seem to come and go due to their questionable legality, and it's a hassle to keep up, there are already multiple webpages discussing them.
here goes nothing.
Proper Live TV
1) Android TV Live channels
it's in my opinion the best way to watch TV on Android TV devices, the necessary framework, but does not seem to be popular at this stage
2) NHK World app.
NHK world is a fantastic app to watch NHK World TV, recently made Android TV compatible, it does not yet integrate to Live Channels, I have sent NHK an email requesting for this, but have not heard back.
If you support this, please send them an email, the more the merrier.
3) Cumulus TV.
This app allows you to manually enter HLS streams into Live channels, it's got great potential (if you have some HLS streams) but it does not work properly at this stage. developer is working on fixing it.
If you have any HLS streams or m3u8 links, please contribute.. if this takes off make we can share json files.
4) Mediahhh
App for UK Live TV channels, works great, not available in the play store, does not integrate with Live channels unfortunately. emailed them but no response.
Semi Live TV
1) Pluto TV.
Great app, makes channels from youtube sources, and integrates to Live channels. try it!
2) Haystack TV
Has a few Live USA channels, doesn't integrate with Live channels.
3) Class6ix news
Has news channels tailored to your location, I believe it works in US, UK and AUS
thats about it from me..
anyone?
Just wanted to point out that the current version of CumulusTV from the play store (1.4.10) as you mentioned doesn't work.
It has been fixed for a week now with the release of version 1.5.1
Two options to get the latest release is either sign up for beta's on the play store by just visiting this link:
https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.felkertech.n.cumulustv
OR, get the latest compiled APK direct from github and sidelaod it

There are a bunch of apk's floating around here's a link to some http://justnewtech.com/android-apk/
The best way to watch live tv for me is through kodi. There are a bunch of free addons-Castaway,DNA TV etc. They are pretty stable. If you want something that's really stable try DEXTER TV in kodi. The pro version cost about 5 bucks a month and has 390 live channels in HD.

Hi there.
thanks, most of these are for on demand watching.
what I'm looking for is live TV.
some are "live TV" basically just point to an HLS stream from somewhere on the internet, but the selection of streams is very poor.
ccloud is one of these addons that is supposed to be the best atm, but it has gone downhill to the point of being unusable.

Mobdro ( has ads)and Husham ( no ads) live tv apk are live tv apps. Hushams app has 600 channels.
Most people know that kodi addons go up and down however Dexter is the most stable. 5 bucks a month for 390 channels ( most in HD) is cheap. The "donation" is for the equipment to keep the channels going. Other IPTV services charge alot more. I don't know of any other live TV apps that are free!!! apert from the first two apps I mentioned, but they only stream in SD. I'm not affiliated with Dexter but so far that's the most stable source I've found. BTW there are way better addons than cCloud.
Cheers.

Do they integrate with the Google Live Channels app? After testing some of the ones listed in the earlier directory I can say most of the ones I tried not only did not integrate, they did not work half of the time or required the use of a touchpad or airmouse simply to navigate around. Disappointing.

Yeah, I agree with you, very dissapointing.
Although, we can sort of expect this of some dodgy app, but for mainstream apps, this should not happen. It's not that difficult to change the app for proper Android TV controls, and Live channels. they probably can't be bothered due to the low user base.

You should bring that up in the FB group or email them. Are you using DEXTER PRO? The regular Dexter(non pro) will be down for a awhile. Like any other addon there is sometimes a server overload however the Dexter team is good at getting it( pro version) up an running quickly. Clean your cache in kodi that may help.
LWS, UK turks, Channel Pear, Ares streams, Khaoz live tv and Navi X have live TV channels. Not every channel works but you can save the ones that do to your favorites.

Anyway there is a custom kodi build called the Gears of War and Gears of War TV. It has live tv channels that are exclusive to the build. it's free this offers some good stuff. The build is being released later tonight. Oh it gets updated at least once a week sometimes twice so the channels are pretty stable.

There's a few apps for the HDHomeRun devices. I forget the names since I quit using them when I sold my old HDHomeRun. The cool part with the HDHomeRun is that it would let you watch any cable channel (You could also use an antenna) you have including DRM ones playback in Live Channels. There's also PuppetMaster.TV which has news from around the world and some live streams from the International Space Station. The Weather Network which gives you nationwide weather reports but shows your local weather on screen overlaid on top of it. Bloomberg and Haystack TV both support Live Channels now as well.

Also has anyone had any luck with configuring Cumulus TV? I can't get it to work with any IPTV streams.
Has anyone been able to find a version of xfinity streaming app that works with Shield 2017? I have tried a number of versions from the FireTV forum without any luck. Would really love to find a working version for the Shield being the best android streaming box, but no one seams to care about the xfinity app!
It should be a matter of time now...read that xfinity was about to release an app for Android TV, but that it would be limited to Sony TVs at first.
Once it is released for Sony, I am sure that properly working APKs will surface for any other Android TV devices.

Is that what you mean by "Xfinity network"?
I am streaming Xfinity on my Samsung tab pro 10.1 and various PCs in the house...but I also have the STB for DVR purposes (which can be streamed all over my network). I do not have their modem/router as I own my own, and still works as expected. I can also stream from outside my home on my phone.

Sorry to show up to the party so late. I have a version of the newer xfinity app. You can stream live tv and on-demand shows (obviously only channels you are subscribed to). It even has launcher support (meaning it will show up right on the homescreen). I was just bored and browsing, so if anyone is still interested I will share a link. Also, what I gathered, this doesn't require root, although my device is rooted so I cannot confirm that.

After setup, the main page that loads will be a "For you" page. Click the back button, it will load a page where you can select "Live" "On-Demand" and a couple other I can't remember. When trying to select a shoe through "On-Demand" I recommend using a mouse or mouse toggle. You can click and drag through the episodes list, so to select other episodes.

With the Smart YouTube TV app you've installed on your Fire TV, technically no.
The regular YouTube app (and by extension the Smart YouTube TV) doesn't use the proper Chromecast protocol - it uses a different, 'cut-down' version called DIAL. More information about this protocol can be found here.
It seems that I'm in a similar situation as you are - I've got a Fire TV, however also want to cast things to it. A native YouTube TV app would be nice as well!
Unfortunately Amazon and Google still haven't sorted their differences, hence waiting for a native YouTube TV app for FireOS might be foolish at this stage. As you can see in your other post on the topic, there does seem to be developer movement in figuring out how to successfully side-load YouTube TV. Fingers crossed.
From my research as of now, you might want to consider getting a different streaming media player - you'd probably want an Apple TV (if you have an iPhone), and I'm thinking of getting a Nvidia Shield TV (since it supports all the streaming services and has chromecast functionality built-in).

I am waiting for delivery of a Channel Master Stream+ made by Technicolor:
https://www.channelmaster.com/Stream_Plus_p/cm-7600.htm
It arrived at their ware house last week. When they will ship to buyers remains unseen. And, will Netflix be supported and USB hard drive be enabled. it does has Micro SD DVR for now. My goal is OTA DVR for Locals and stream the rest. Tried a Shield Pro last summer but the remote was dead and support was less than helpful. Sent it back. Curious as to why the pro has been discontinued.

Yes, and that's all you'll be able to do with the 'Smart YouTube TV' app - it only supports sending video links from YouTube --> YouTube (and other limited uses) using the DIAL protocol.
OP specifically asked for casting abilities (I'm presuming more Chromecast- or AirPlay-like), so that they can cast not just YouTube, but also other apps (such as 'YouTube TV'). This is definitely not supported with the alternative 'Smart YouTube TV' app at this stage.
If you have an Xbox One, then this supports casting from iOS and Android (as OP stated above).
Various other media streaming box options exist that have full casting abilities built-in (such as the Channel Master Stream+ @schneid has mentioned). This device actually looks pretty interesting, and I'd like to hear about your experience with the device when it eventually gets shipped @schneid !

My Stream+ was shipped and lost in the mail. Probably a good thing. I've been reading on AVSForum and the product seems to be a disaster:

Well that stinks. Hope you'll get reimbursed for it!
What device do you think you'll get as a substitute in the meantime?
