Hi
Today I have recieved a Samsung 8GB micro SD card (Class 4) from play.com. I bought this to replace the existing 4GB card i am currently using in HTC desire.
I need some help from the form as I wonder can I just switch of the phone and replace the existing card. What happens to the HTC desire when a new 8GB card is placed... will all my contact (sync with Gmail) still stay??
Anyone in the forum please help...
Thank you,
Swapping the memory card won't affect your contacts.
It may be wise to copy everything on your 4GB card to your new card before you swap it in. That way, you can keep your photos and other stuff that your applications may have saved onto the card.

I have just ordered a 16GB SD card to replace the 8GB one I have.
Do I need to format the new card in the phone before transferring the old data?
You have to format it somewhere to be sure you have correct cluster size.
Try card after that with free SD tools (http://veluscek.amebis.si/index.asp?selektiran=sdtools). There is free market link.

I am also purchasing a 16Gb SD card . I was going to format it using the phone. You can unmount the sd card and then format it. Is this not a good idea?
I was also going to copy the contents of my current card to my pc, and then copy it back to my new SD card. I am assuming this is the correct way of doing things.
I just changed to a 16GB Class 2 about 2 weeks ago. I just copied everything from the 8GB to my computer. Put the 16 in, and copied everything from the computer to the 16. Everything is working fine. No formating. I did check the phone before copying to it (16), and the format option was not selectable. It was grayed out, so I just copied.
would upgrading the stock 8gig sd card to a class 6 make any difference?

You'd probably only really notice a big difference when copying files from the PC to the phone. Don't think you'd see much of an improvement when opening anything on the phone.

If I'm not mistaken, mine is already upgraded (so-called) to class 10 from my previous phone. I however do not notice any difference in performance.
I think suddy86 is right. Even if there is, I guess it would be hardly noticed.
I have purchased a class 6 card. It was only a couple of quid more than a class 4. Its a Kingston SD Card, so should be good. Didnt fancy buying an unbranded cheaper card.
Another question that I am curious about. Can a nandroid backup made on a 8GB sd card, be restored on a 16GB card?
i believe you can just copy the contents of the 8gig to the 16gig (unless its a gold card)
Just bought a Play which has come with a 8GB SD card. Previously I was using a Huawei 8220 (Tmobile Pulse) with a 16GB card which is pretty full ... so in reality I think I'll be moving to a 32GB card soon!
Initially I thouhgt I'd just put the old SD card in and reinstall apps etc and work from there ... however looks like the supplied 8GB card already as ~3GB of data on it ... is any of this essential and if its not there does it get auto-installed (I managed to start the phone with the S card not properly reseated and it started talking about needing a card with enough space to install the game when I tried to run FIFA10 ... if I use another card will things reinstall?)
When I get a 32GB card can I just copy contents of both current cards onto it? Or will that just confuse everything! And for now, should I stick to the 8GB card which came with the play and is preloaded with play data or sue my existing 16GB card which has lots of app data on it?

The data on the supplied SD Card is just some tones/wallpers, the sony suite for windows and the asset data for the games that come with the phone. If you don't want the wallpapers and sony suite, you can delete contents, game data can be downloaded anytime by launching the game
I made a copy of the 8GB card that came with my PLAY & also made a copy of the 16GB card that I had with my Samsung Fascinate. I combined both & put all of it on a new 32GB.
So in steps to make best of it...
1) Copy 8GB data to PC
2) Copy 16GB data to PC
3) Clean up anything you no longer need on the 16GB backup
3) Copy 16GB data to 32GB SDHC card
4) Copy & overwrite last with 8GB data to 32GB SDHC card
Now you'll have everything that was given for free from Sony Ericsson as well as what you had previously. I recommend keeping the free games at the very least.
Thanks ... that's about what I'd assumed - just wanted to double check before I did anything stupid!
Good Evening once again,
Now that my phone is up and running again thanks to some wonderful people on here I was wondering if some could offer some advice on my memory card.
I was given a 32GB m-sd card for xmas that I REALLY want to use in my phone however having a problem formatting it. Using Gparted it will only let me create one partition. If I put my old 8GB mem card in I can delete all the parts and then recreate the two (one Fat32 and one ext4) So is there a reason why I cant do it on my 32gb card and is it fixable?
Thanks,
Max
If youre a windows user, google and download h2testw.exe to test the SD card. Just to confirm that there are no errors in the entire 32GB of space.
Hi
I have a problem with my htc and i need some help if you can. I recently got a 4gb sd card for my phone and it doest work on it but the card works perfectly on the Samsung Galaxy Mini and the HTC TYTN II that i also have .
So my quastion is this. Is there anything else to do besides the format or the phone supports a special brand of a 4gb sd card??
P.S. please post me a link of a giude on how to upgrade the phone i ve been reading the wildfire section all day today and the only thing i found is the rom section.
Thanks in advance
Your phone could have a faulty card slot. If it's still under warranty, return it and get another one.
As for your other question, here's a link to a list of guides to help you through whatever you need: [INDEX].
Thanks for replying and trying to help.
I am really sorry but i forgot to mention that the 2 gb card that came with it or the 1 gb card from the Samsung one works perfectly on the HTC so the card slot is no issue i also took the phone to the company i purchased it and they said that i have to leave it there to check it but they will charge me because i installed the 4gb card my self
Thanks again for all the help you can provide
What's the brand and class of your 4GB Micro SD Card?
I had problems with a Kingston 8GB class 10 Micro SD Card, it was recognized by the phone but it randomly unmounted the card.
When I bought a Samsung 8GB class 6 Micro SD Card the problems were gone.
The brand of the card is kingston transcend 4gb.
That was my first estimation that the brand might not be compatible but i was hoping that it might be a soft upgrade or an application that could do the job and mount the card because mine it doesnt mount at all.
I will try and replace the card with another brand and see if it works
Thanks for all the help guys.
Hi,
i have a 16 GB Sandisk MicroSD for my SGS4. This card contains lots of music and photos and some games (like solitare, Riptide, Asphalt etc)
Now, i bought a new 64Gb SanDisk MicroSD for SGS4.
i copied all the folders from the 16Gb card and pasted in my new 64 Gb card. Power off the sgs4 and replaced the card and powered on.
phone was successfully booted up and am able to see everything like pics, music etc. but am not able to see any of the games which i moved to the sd card. it says application not installed.
So, my questions is how can i transfer the games also to my new SD card? appreciate your help
Any one please. i tried different methods, but none of them seem to be working.

I think it has to do with something with the sd card partition, because most 64 gb micro sd card has that issue, so you're not the only one, i have a similar issue, where my music is affected and most of my files (besides picture) are unreadable,in addition, try using a rom or kernel with exFat compatiability, and then try and use your sd card and see if some files work, it somewhat worked for me. But i'll be honest, what good is a 64 gb card if we can't use it?
