TP2 and SDHC card problem - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Since switching from a SanDisk 8Gb class 2 MicroSDHC to a Kingston 16Gb class 10 MicroSDHC (manfacturer part number SDC10/16GB-2ADP) I keep getting problems starting up apps that use the storage slot. For example, when I start CoPilot Live 8, it just freezes and I have to power off the phone, pull out the card, re-insert it and power on again (if I don't re-insert the card then a phone reset doesn't allow me to use the card right away).
Is the TP2 ok with this card, or is the card defective? I don't have problems using it with a USB MicroSDHC adapter.
I might save this card for use with a newer phone, perhaps a HTC Desire or Legend.

I don't know the Kingston, but my Sandisk 16 GB does not make any problems.

I have the SanDisk 16gb and have had no problems at all. Have you formatted your Kingston sd card? Maybe try formatting it on a different computer, or by putting it into a digital camera and using its format function? Hope that helps...

Yes, I've tried formatting the card. It made no difference.
I guess my question comes down to what class card the TP2 supports. I understand that the cards themselves are supposed to be downward compatible with devices that don't support the higher speeds, but some devices might struggle. I don't know what card class is supported by the TP2 (2,4,6 etc). I imagine any class 2 card would be fine, but what is the maximum class the TP2 should be able to support?

I don't believe it's the card because I'm experiencing the same problem. I initially started using the card in a nokia e71. bought the same reader as you: it just freezes and I have to power off the phone, pull out the card, re-insert it and power on again (if I don't re-insert the card then a phone reset doesn't allow me to use the card right away).

I'm using some noname 16gb card I got off eBay. Used it in my Incite and now in my Tilt 2 without issue.

Download trial of Pocket Mechanic Pro and run disk check and for errors. Missing not having two copies of FAT directory onboard causes many problems. Pocket Mechanic Pro is one WM tool really worth having.

4GB SD card works on my Blue Angel

Just in case anybody is thinking of getting a 4GB SD card, I can confirm that the Transcend 150x 4GB card works on my Blue Angel, though it doesn't work in the built-in SD card reader on my Toshiba laptop - I have to use a SanDisk MobileMate SD+ Card Reader. You can get the SD card for £80 from http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=17231&ft=d&st=1
£80? They seemed alot more then that just a few months back...
You can definitly get them cheaper on eBay but I wanted the option of returning it if it didn't work - I think if you buy something off an online retailer you can return it within 7 days.
But the real question is: Does it work with tomtom 5 without freezing?

I had that problem with a high-speed 1GB card using Navigator 3. The 4GB card seems to work far better though there is still some "freezing".

MicroSD 32GB, Transfer Problem

hey Guys, i had two types of mark, a sandisk and kingston with both 32gb and both with the same problem.
What happens is this, I insert a microsd to miniSD adapter and put it in the laptop, transfer 4GB of music, it takes HOURS, when it ends, the files automatically erases, dissapear from sd card.
Anyone know please tell me why it happens?
Unfortunately that usually means the sd card is a fake, they are allover ebay. Basically they alter a 4gb card to make it show as 32gb.
I'd try and get a refund for the card if I was you!

Samsung Focus 16GB Class 10 MicroSD

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up. I just bought a Samsung Focus this morning and love the device. The only issue i am having is that it will not detect my class 10 16GB microSD card. I have other 8GB cards and they detect fine but i cannot get the 16GB to work. I have tried the 16GB in other devices (laptop, HTC Hero) and it detects and works fine. So i dont know if it is a size issue or the fact that its a class 10 card but my windows phone will not detect that it is installed.
If anyone has had success with a similar card please let me know.

Are you doing a hard reset on the device after you put the card in?
I have been able to reproduce the same results with a Class 10 MicroSD from Kingston. It is not recognized by the phone with or without performing a hard reset. A class 4 32gb card was recognized with no issues.
Hmmm, class 4 works but not 10??? Class 10 == too fast for Wp7
One more data point. I am also experiencing an issue with the Kingston 16GB class 10 microSD card in a Samsung Focus. Slightly different issue though -- only 8 of the 16GB are recognized.
As you may have seen, AT&T employees are now warning customers to not install microSD cards until MSFT issues a patch. When I bought my Focus this morning, the AT&T salesman brought his manager out to tell me about the problem.
CHANGED: The Transcend 16GB Class 6 card does not work per se. Will see it all 16GB after hard reset, then after turning phone off then on again only sees 8GB of the card.
My A-Data 16GB class 6 card works.
I posted earlier that my Kingston 16GB class 10 card didn't work in the Foucs. I just bought a Sandisk 16GB class 2 microSDHC card, which worked fine. From what I've seen there is no authoritative way to predict which cards will work. However, I have not seen any reports of Sandisk cards failing.
Class 10 cards will not work til update.

it is the class not brand class 10 cards will not work til the update..
Another data point -- I saw instability even with a card that appeared to be working. I first posted that my Kingston 16GB class 10 card didn't work (only 8GB recognized). I then posted that my Sandisk class 2 16GB card worked. However over the next two days, I experienced surprising instability e.g. the phone rebooting itself several times per day. For the last two days I have been running without a microSD card and the spontaneous reboots have gone away. Other people may be having better experiences with their cards. But for the moment, I'll live with less sync'ed music to get better stability. If the spontaneous reboots come back, I'll post again.

You might want to try this card tester on your cards as they mey be bad...
It seems most cards class 6 and above don't work and class 4 is the most reliable. Ho hum!
For what its worth I've been using a Kingston 32GB Micro SDHC Flash Card Model SDC4/32GBSP since Monday and having no problems whatsoever.
Class and size has nothing to do eith it. Google for more info.

The reason Class 10 cards don't work and Class 2 cards do is because of the random read/write speeds. Class 10 cards promise fast SUSTAINED write speed but at the expense of random read/write. Windows phone 7 relies mainly on random read/write speeds to function smoothly. Fortunately, this means that Class 2 cards work very well! I would consider this to be a good thing however because Class 2 cards are cheaper!
Adding to this old dead thread, but was hoping to know if anybody knew if Microsoft fixed this issue yet. I just ordered an A-Data 16GB Class 10 MicroSD recently..
From a quick search, it seems it hasn't though?
Yeah, I don't think anyone has really had an issue with a card since nodo. As stated in this thread however, many people have (in the past at least) had better luck with class 2 than any other class. I've been using the sd card below for a couple of months with no issue with about 30gb of music loaded on it.

[Q] Question about SD card problem

I'm looking for some thoughts on a problem I encountered. Due to a problem with the camera, I got a refurbished phone under warranty. When I got it, I took the 8GB micro SD (not the original HTC, but a faster card from Transcend) from my old phone where it had worked flawlessly and installed it in my refurbished phone. Wouldn't mount. Put it back in the original phone; wouldn't mount. Computer wouldn't recognize it through multiple adapters/readers. Not erased or formatted, nothing would recognize it. I know crap happens sometimes. I had an old 2GB card that I installed and it worked with no problems.
I RMA'd the card back to Transcend (which is another story) who would not replace it due to a scuff mark on the edge of the card - physical damage!!!
Anyway, I ordered a new Adata card, 8GB class 10 and when it arrived, I transferred files to it on my computer (so it was working) and put it in the phone. Wouldn't mount. Put it back in the computer and no files could be seen. Ran scandisk, files reappeared. Installed back in the phone, wouldn't mount. Now it's fried, too. Computer won't recognize it anymore. Installed 2GB card back in phone and it mounts and works fine.
I've got a replacement phone coming again from TMobile - it's got to be the phone doing this. But I'm out 2 SD cards. I'll try a RMA on the Adata card to see if I can get a replacement, but I may buy another card in the meantime.
Does anybody have any thoughts on this problem? Why would the phone play nicely with the 2GB card but neither of the 8GB cards? I don't think I can do anything different, but at $15 a shot, I'm starting to hesitate buying a new card to put in the replacement phone when it gets here.
Thanks.
As a clarification, the original Transcend card was a class 6 card. The Adata was a class 10 and I read that some phones won't work with some class 10 cards...

as always, the best class to use with phones are class 4. their cheap and they work good
well, i was hesitant bout the whole "which classes will the g2 work with" situation.
i bought a pny 16gb class 10 and it works. so i dunno if its more of a this specific phone situation over an entire group of phones.

two microsd card died after deleting a file

Hi guys.
I've been using Qumo microSD card 16gb class 4 with un-rooted Galaxy S2 for a couple of weeks until some day the card just died.
I just deleted a file from card with totalcmd android app and it froze. After i rebooted the phone the card was no longer accessible. I also am not able to mount it in computer.
Thanks to warranty I've exchanged the card to the same one. But after working for just one week the same scenario happened.
I'm now going to try to exchange it for Kingston or Transcend card.
But I wonder maybe there is something wrong with the phone itself or maybe with totalcmd application?
Thanks, Oleg.
I think your microsd card is crappy. This happens with some sd cards. Stick with those standard reputable brands like kingston, sandisk, lexar, transcend and you shouldn't have any problems. Just to be safe, you should perhaps change to another file explored. OI file manager is small in file size and fast.
u shld ave ckd the card , connecting it to pc by a card reader..
