Default messaging app shrinking pictures too much for MMS - Desire General

Can anyone else test this: I send a picture that's more than 300k and the messaging app shrinks the picture to 20k OR LESS. This is pathetic! I have a whole 280k more to play with so why does the app shrink the picture to such a ridiculously small size? I've checked the maximum message size is selected in settings and there don't seem to be any problems with my APN settings.
Anyone found a way to fix this? Handcent does a much better job, sending pictures ten times the size....I like the look of the default app though.

increase MMS auto picture compression

Does anybody know how to modify the mms.apk to allow to send and receive larger pictures. Right now it auto compresses the original photo too small around 7kb to 20kb. I would like to set around 300kb to 1mb.

Any one else really diggin the stock text/gmail app this time around?

besides the whole iphone bubble thing ( which im sure will be fixed with themes ), i think the stock messaging app is a winner this time around. especially the new landscape preview mode. also i dont know whats different in this gmail version but i no longer get the "ghost" emails ( when the message counter says i have unread messages but i cannot see them ) good job samsung..
I like it as well but for some reason I can't get my ip camera video attachments. I can see them on the regular gmail app but not on the stock email app. I get the email with the attachments icon but nothing shows to click to preview.

I made a mental note to try out Go SMS but I never really got around to it actually, because like you I thought the stock messaging app was pretty sweet.
i wish there some more customization like you can do on MIUI and handcent like - mini window, etc
I'm using the stock MAIL app, I prefer it to the Gmail one. The text app I replaced with Handcent.
I use the Yahoo email app, works great.

I Use the yahoo email app for my yahoo mail.. I use the built in gmail app for my 3 gmail accnts
Tapatalkin' it from my Epic Touch 3g
I'm trying to use the stock email app isntead of downloading the yahoo mail app and using the gmail app.
I like that I can set the background to black with white text.
My only issue is that I'm not liking the lack of push notifications.
I can set it to check every 15 minutes with an notification on my status bar...
That seems almost better than push? (As far as it not sitting there nonstop checking for mail). Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'm really digging the little animation where the text slides over to the pane, and I also love the window view in landscape. The next SMS app is one of my favorite "tweaks," on the device.
The stock SMS application is good, but the iPhone-style bubbles are ugly, and not having the option to change them or their colors is terrible.
With that being said, the worst part of the stock SMS application is the over-compression of MMS photos. Sending photos to friends is an embarrassing affair. Your 8MP photos get compressed to usually between 25KB to 50KB, at the smallest resolution ever. I'm all for saving network throughput, but come on. People on larger resolution devices (iPhone 4) can't see anything. Disappointing.

It's my guess Sprint is the one to blame with over compression of MMS. I had this exact same problem with my HTC EVO 4G.
I broadcast texts to about 30 people on a regular basis and the built-in SMS client won't send to more than 10 people at once no matter how big the group is so I can't use it. Wish I could fix that - I'd rather use the built-in app so it would work with the lock screen. Or it would be nice if you could make other email/SMS clients work with the lock screen.
I like both stock apps looks good and functions well.

Just pull the CM7 messaging app from a rom and slap in the system folder and change permissions Then reboot.

Text message picture compression

Anyone know how to change how much android compresses messages for sending in text messages? It's compressing them down to under 20kb and when I enlarge them on my phone, they look like crap. I'd think downsizing to only say 100kb would be fine, and would still look OK when displayed in bigger screens.
The stock tw SMS MMS app doesn't give you image size options unfortunately ....I know AOSP mms app does, and I believe it's included in one of the early roms.
Third party apps definitely give you the option, like go SMS pro, etc..I believe up to 1.2mb.
Hope it helps.

Font size random

Hi guys, had my One X since release day and have been bugged by this annoying issue. I find the don't size in the SMS app too large, I set it to small and it looks good. But more often than not, when I go back to the SMS app, the font size is reset. Also if I change the font size in the display settings to small it changes most except the SMS app font. But sometimes after using the phone for a while or rebooting all the fonts are really small.
Is this a common issue and is there any known fix for it? It's not a deal breaker but is very annoying. Cheers

This is a bug with the messaging app which HTC have not fixed as of 1.28.xxx.x
You can do 2 finger pinch on messaging app to reduce font size even further, but it will still re size itself every so often.
Thanks for the tip about pinch zooming. Looking for an alternative messaging app in the meantime.

Has this bug been resolved- i received a Multimedia message and the font size changed to large ...very annoying!!

Email Font Size

Finally got the stock Email App working for Yahoo mail and prefer it to the k-9 App I was using previously apart from two issues;
The font size when reading emails is too large
It doesn't seem to be possible to get images to load automatically when opening an email.
I'm pretty sure there is a way to fix this but cannot find anything in settings.
1) In the e-mail account you maid, Menu > Settings > General Settings > Mail body font size.
2) Try Menu > Settings > Sync, Send & Receive > Receive Setting, Try increasing the Mail size limit & make sure its set to HTML, might work.
Doesn't solve the problem.
Some mails you can't even scroll left and right to see the whole mail.
Another quality HTC application
I have the same issue which is annoying since it was fine on my Sensation. In Sense 3.6 you had a setting to set the font to smallest which was perfect.
Anyone know if the stock ics maill app is any better. This is the only thing I Hate about the phone.

I am indeed using the ICS Stock email app for this very reason. However I find that the system-wide minimum font size is still too large and even though my mail text size is set to tiny, using the smallest font size in ICS settings still renders the mail notification text to be large.
i have the same issue. the font is just too big. if you carefully watch it when you open an email. the font starts out normal size then goes super large.
