Hey ive posted this before but no one replied.
It happens on a daily basis, i get a message cannot be delivered error despite having signal.. and it then takes about 8 retries before it sends! im on orange on a generic handset!
anyone else had this problem?
Had a similar problem and am also on Orange with generic handset, seems to be occurring with low signal strength but takes a couple of goes to resent even with improved signal.

Yes!!! Even when i go back to 3G it wont send for a while.. Its so annoying.

Not an orange fault, happening here on t mobile, very annoying.
It never happened on my nexus one..
Gosh i miss cynogen mods!
It happens on mine (3 in Australia), although if I leave it, it tries to resend itself and does so rather quickly. If I manually retry sending while it's retrying, the receiver gets multiple messages.
It doesn't happen that often for me, probably every couple of days, but like I said it beeps saying failed to send, then tries again and it works with no intervention from me.
Yeah i noticed sometimes it resends its self, but also before now ive had like 7 failed to send sound notifications without me touching anything
Though yeah i managed to tell my mom that i was on the bus 8 times the other day!
had the same problem, with t mobile Rom. however normally re send it self after one go, and doesn't happen as much as it used to.

Same problem here, using a Vodafone Australia SIM on a Telstra-branded Desire. Happens way too often, even in areas where I have good signal, on both 3G or GPRS.
Wondering if it's related to my issue where the data connection just stops worked occasionally (though still shows connected).
Same here on vodafone. Really annoying.

This is what I get on T-Mobile UK
Same here on Orange with Orange branded desire.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Like most people it seems, this happens to me once every few days. Sometimes a message will be really stubborn but will usually send if I manually retry.
Same here. 3UK on a Generic Desire.
used to get that ALL the time. basically on every message i used to send. worst thing was that they usually were sending an the recipient would receive the same message 3-4 times. since i upgraded to the desire though i've not had the problem once. i tried on multiple handsets before and same problem so the only thing i can assume that's made it better is the new sim card they sent out too. currently on orange uk using an orange branded desire flashed with the latest generic rom.
I've got the same problem too...i'm on t mobile. It seems to come and go so sometimes if i send a few messages in the space of a couple of minutes they will all not send the 1st time but send on the 2nd or 3rd attempt. But then other times it will be fine. Seems strange as it happens when signal is fine.
Ah, thought this was just me. 3 Mobile UK with a generic Desire here. Was sending messages this morning between 3 people and then it just decided it didn't want to send one message.
I sometimes have the same problem with sending more than one page text message and have to manually resend it and it sends - mines a unbranded unit from CPW. Also while we are on the subject of text messages, is there anyway to prevent the auto changing from text message to MMS after 5 text pages?. I get free texts and I am having to stop at 5 pages otherwise it just converts to MMS. Very annoying tbh!.

Has anyone had any issues with Froyo ROMs not sending SMS on the first attempt?
I've been having issues for ages, but I'm not sure if it's carrier specific or ROM related. I changed to Froyo about the same time I moved from Voda to T-Mob.
yes.
i have this problem since i updated to Froyo. And i think it has something to do with the contact numbers starting with + or 00.
Been having this issue myself. On t-mobile and it just started when moving back to froyo/sense Rom

Been having this issue intermittently. I'm on Orange UK and registered to use the T-Mobile network where it's 'better'. The txt issue only seems to happen when my carrier is shown as 'Orange T-Mobile' ie the T-Mob network. Looking at other posters carriers it looks like it could well be a network issue.
.
i have it sometimes too maybe 8% of the time
I'm in Australia on the Optus network, and whilst it happened infrequently pre-Froyo, it has been much worse since Froyo. I wish something could be done about it, it's annoying!
i also have this problem...esp when i restart my phone or when i do not sms for some time....
I do have the same problem (Plus GSM, Poland), but I noticed that the sms is being sent anyway, even when the error pops and the error itself disappears after a short time. Few times I have received a reply to my message even with the icon telling me it wasn't delivered.
Official Froyo, unrooted.

I am on 02 UK operating unrooted 2.2 Froyo and I have been having similar issues of late. My issues are similar to that of Vatrox.
I should probably mention that I am using Handcent as opposed to the stock messaging system. Anyway, not a huge issue but nevertheless irritating at times.

Has anyone else experienced problems with text messaging and the Airvana? When I send a text it tells me that message is not going through and to try again. The recipient actually receives the message and gets spammed 5+ times with the same message.
Also, if I received text messages during this period I get all the responses together within a few seconds.
This only occurs, randomly, while connected to the Airvana. I know this is isolated to the Airvana unit because when I switch back to my old Airave it doesn't happen.
This is why I stopped using mine.
happens to me all the time with that damn airvana
I used to have the same issues, and it was very frustrating. I did however notice improvement after I ported my sprint # to google. and upgraded to the latest radio. It's been a good 2 months and I have not had any issues. I've also upgraded my wireless router to a Netgear 300N. Hope this can be a bit of help.
Yep, just unplug the damn thing. I used mine for 2 days and had way too many problems. It now sits in a box in my closet.

I have the same problem every now and then. Whenever I send a text and it seems to be taking too long to send, I delete it. the recipient still gets it several times but not the 20+ times they would normally get it if I weren't to delete it. Only hapens every once in a while, it is quite annoying though.
Yea there's a thread over on Sprintusers where people are having identical problems. Someone posted that Sprint is aware of the issue and working on fixing it. (This was like Oct 2010).
Still broken

Where as other carriers would look at you and laugh that your contract isn't up and send you nothing...
An issue like that doesn't last very long.
I called Airave tech support and they are telling me I need to update my PRL and it'll fix all my problems. BS.
He says they have some tool that is supposed to show 5 green dots for my phone but I have 2 black X's.
yeah.. you get to choose between working texts all the time or good signal.
So im not the only one. He seem like it only happens when texting back and forth with someone quickly. If your airave mobile light wont turn green and only blinks amber. You need the higher up sprint airave tech to do a firmware reset. Fixed my issue
Sent from my hTc Evo!
My airvana stops working rondomly all the time, they keep telling me its my ISP because it fails the quallity of service test they want to to do. but yet every other Qos test I run I pass. And last night my nexus would not sent mms, but my wifes phone worked just fine.
I thought this was fixed with a hard reset. Problem is happening again. I'm going to try to switch back from Airvana to my Airave unit.
Tech support is telling me it'll take up to 4 hours to provision my unit? Sounds like an awfully long time!
I plugged in Airvana unit back in last night after maybe 3 months. Of course, after one day my text messaging problem returns.
I call Sprint and this time the tech support says it is a known issue whereas before they said "no reported problems." It is apparently just a problem with Airvana and EVOs/Epics. They said that the manufacturer of the Airvana units are aware of the problem and there is not current fix available. They essentially told me to disconnect the unit to text message or to wait until I'm out of Airvana range. That's pretty ridiculous if you ask me!
Ya I have this exact same issue, so effing annoying, and if I disconnect my airvana I get no service at all and texts don't send anyway :/
Sent from my Synergized Evo 4g
Mine situation is even weirder. The first day or two after I install a new ROM, I'll have the issue where the person I'm sending the text to will get it 10 times, and I'll get replies 10 times, and then the problem will suddenly disappear. Happened on every ROM I've ever used since I got my Airave, both AOSP and Sense.
It has been confirmed as phone and Airvana related by Sprint. Won't matter if you're stock or on any special ROM.
Well I got the Verizon LTE Galaxy Nexus a few days ago (on release day) and since I started using it, service will drop out intermittently. For example, I'll be in my house with 4 bars and a 4G LTE connection (the signal has always been very reliable here) and I'll be using the phone perfectly with no problems. I'll lock it and put it down for anywhere between 5-15 minutes, and frequently (not always) when I pick it back up and unlock it, the phone will say "Searching for Service". The same problem also occurs when sending text messages. I'll click the send button and the messaging app displays and error claiming that the message could not be sent. I try to resend the message a few times, and after about 10 seconds the phone says that service has dropped out completely. The last scenario with this problem is when I'm simply using the phone for web browsing, listening to music, playing a game, etc. I'll be using it and my service will randomly disappear. This happens on WiFi and when I'm using mobile data. It also happens at home and while in other areas (with good service or bad service). Is anyone else experiencing a problem similar to this? If not, should I ask Verizon to replace my device?
I was on calls on mine on and off all day Thu and Fri. I never saw this issue.
Hey man, I just returned my GNex due to the exact issue you are describing. They swapped me a different one and it seems to be fixed. I'm still only getting 1-2 bars max but signal drops are not happening now. they were happening so constantly before i was ready to just return the phone outright.
It's really annoying because they have to reproduce the problem before they will give you a new phone. They looked me up in the computer and said their system says I have zero dropped calls (that's BS because I have been dropping constantly) and they made a phone call while I was in the store that lasted 5 minutes without dropping...strangely while in store I had 4 bars but as soon as I leave the parking lot I get 1-2. I was about to walk out of store defeated and without a new phone but service popped back off and I was able to get the guy to see it and fail to make a call to my voicemail...this new swapped out phone works much better.

Just got off the phone w/verizon for the same problems. He stated that he has been receiving a lot of complaints about this issue. He said that he is sending a error report to Samsung. He also said that I could take the phone back and exchange it. Every one with this problem should contact Verizon so they can inform Samsung.

Hmmmm well thanks for the responses everyone! I'm probably gonna call VZW and get them to exchange it today.
P.S. I even got a new SIM card to see if that fixed the problem and it didn't, so it's definitely a problem with the radio in some devices.
I have not experienced this in MN.
Got mine exchanged today
Hey, I had the same problem with mine when I got it out of the box. I took it to the store, and it consistently reproduced the problem. They tried the SIM card, then replaced the phone. Seems to be working well now.
On my HTC One X (Orange Android 4.0.3, HTC Sence 4.0 Software 1.29.061.11) I have a common problem where I don't get a text message until I press the "Power" button at the top of the phone. As soon as I do, the phone beeps and vibrates, and displays the message on screen. The text message will have a time stamp of many minutes before (maybe 15/30 minutes). If I don't keep checking my phone, I don't receive messages!
Its like the phone is in a deep sleep and isn't receiving messages.
Has anyone else had this problem?

It may have something to do with HTC SmartSync.
Yes I know it is only supposed to between the hours of 12(Midnight) and 7AM, but it may not be de-activating for you.
Also is it constantly, or intermittent?
i noticed this before, but havent since the 2.17 update - maybe this is what fixes it..
Are you using wifi and set it to turn off while your screen is off? That might be problem.

No, SmartSync is enabled by default, HTC though they were being clever but it has cause no end of issue.
There was an app that you could use to disable it, but it has been removed from the Play Store
Im sorry I cannot help you further but I can almost guarantee this will be your cause.

SmartSync only disables data connections (WiFi and mobile data) from 0.00 to 7.00, so I highly doubt it has anything to do with your problem. I have noticed I sometimes get the sms notification when I turn on the screen, but never more than 2 minutes after the SMS has actually arrived. On some CM-based ROM's there is an option for the SMS app to show the time the text was sent, as opposed to the time your device received it, and there are delays caused by the network sometimes, so there may be nothing wrong with your phone.
I suggest you install Ghostly SMS. It will essentially double your SMS notification (unless you purchase the donate version, which will remove it once your SMS app displays its own), but it's always fast and reliable - you will see it gets the SMS a fraction of a second before the system's notification appears. I've been using it since there was a problem with messages not being received on a CM7 Nightly for my old Desire and it has never failed.
I noticed last night, around 7/8PM (UK TIME!) that when I switched my screen on, my WiFi and Signal reconnected.
I am having the same issue as you, my Network and Connections turn themselves off with the screen haha !

Yeah no signal bars, with the red cross over.
And Wifi has no bars also, and is grey'd out as it looks when you are on very low signal?
It either only stays like that for long enough for me to notice it, or it never re-connects and I have to restart my phone.
Any one know a cause/solution?

that's definitely not smart sync doing that - not for the phone signal anyway
have you got the phone set to wcdma only ?
if you haven't tried already, then try take the sim card out, clean it, blow into the sim slot in case of dust etc and then put back in and try again
what rom are you using? and what mods if any?
Edit: just seen your sig, if you're on stock then its easier to diagnose at least. try and boot the phone in safe mode for a few hours, check if it continues to do it or not

The mobile signal just disappearing at random happened to me when I traveled to Italy, but it must have been something with the netwrok, since it only happened there. However, I had no problem at all with WiFi.
The fact that both of your connections have bad signal makes me think of a either hardware issue or a bad radio. I've never flashed a radio on my HOX, but maybe a RUU could help. Or you might have to take your phone to the service...

I think its when I travel a big distance in a certain amount of time, I read that some where else. Say if you got in a car, drove around town for a bit (Which is what I did when I noticed) then the signal goes wierd, continue doing it and its as though it gives up trying to chace you round and just thinks, theyll sort me out when im needed (yes im talking as though im bar of signal haha)
The quote below also stacks up, as he was traveling in italy?

Can you try and help me find n RUU, but I don't think i'll use it as theres too much data on my phone to lose
HTC have agreed to a repair already about the WiFi, but I don't want them anywhere near my phone, once you've purchased they dont care. I USED TO LOVE HTC ! Now they have made me think they dont care about the customers.
Perhaps I should ask about the radio issue also?!

I see now your signature says you're still on stock ROM. If that's the case, you might not need an RUU, a simple Factory Reset might do the same job. RUU's are different for different carriers, so I can't find one for you, but you will find them all here. If your phone is not branded (i.e. without simlock or any custom software by your carrier), look for one that has 401 in the name, such as this one RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_S_HTC_Europe_2.17.401.2_Radio_2.1204.135.20_release_274900_signed.exe
What data do you have to back-up? You can transfer all your files to your PC or store them on a cloud service (Dropbox, Drive etc) and you can backup your apps & data with adb as shown here.
If it is a radio issue, however, you may well have to take it for repairs. I don't know where you live, but I've always heard nothing but the best about HTC's repairs, they even accepted (free of charge) phones that had beed dropped on concrete or in a tank full of water, which is one of the main reasons I stay away from Samsung (along with TouchWiz, low-quality materials and more, but I'm getting too off-topic).
Good luck and tell us how it went! :good:
Thanks for the replies, I'm just going to hope that the ICS/Jellybean updates over the next few months help.
BTW, I dont use the Firefox browser. Thanks
I've been having a problem with receiving texts sometimes and I recently noticed that it happens with call apparently. The issue is that I'm texting people back and forth and then all of a sudden I wont receive messages for a long time (couple hours). At some point, someone's text message will push through all of the other ones all at the same time. Sometimes when I assume i'm having this issue, I will send a text to myself and it will push the other ones through as well. Recently though I was made aware that during this "outage", I also was not able to receive phone calls at all. The signal is strong at all times (3-4 bars). Also happens when I'm home all day and not changing locations when it will suddenly stop getting texts and calls. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? I restarted the phone and changed cell towers with the Airplane mode many times and the issue continues to happen at random times. It is really inconvenient. Suggestions?
Technical details: I use the stock 4.1.1 Rom that comes with AT&T S3. I do have LTE in my area.
And now it has happened 3 days in a row but at different times of day. This is a huge problem for me as I use my phone a lot. Any help would be appreciated

That's weird. Re-seat your SIM card, if that doesn't do anything then take a trip to your nearest AT&T store/dealer and have them swap out your SIM card and see if it still occurs after that.
I had a similar problem a while back and it happened to be a network problem with my carrier. Gave them a call and all is fine now.

It happend to me too. I went to att store and get new sim. No problem for last 15-20 days. Looks like i got stronger signal too.
Just to give anyone interested in this an update:
I went to the AT&T store today and told them my issue so they told me to go to the nearest AT&T device support center (which was really far away). People over there told me they heard about this issue many times over the past couple of months. The guy working there had a S3 and said he has the same problem. They received an email from the higher-ups this morning specifically talking about this random outage thing I have and that they are currently working on it. They were told to not exchange phones or sim cards because of this since it wont help. The issue involves a combination of Network and Jelly Bean software problems and happens on all new LTE devices that have Jelly Bean from AT&T. They told me to check periodically if there is a solution.
I guess I just gotta wait. Unless someone recommends a ROM that is not based on the latest AT&T jelly bean?
Bumping it up, both me and my wife have had this happen. From what im read its a pretty widespread deal.
Anyone know of a work around at least until they fix it?

Same problem here - switched from Verizon to AT&T last month and started noticing this problem a few weeks ago. Back then a Google search didn't find much on it, but this thread looks promising.
Just to add my two cents: I'm on a rooted S3 with task650's AOKP (4.2.1) build 12.23.2012 (link). Made sure to flash the modem for my phone (I747UCLI5 from here). Problem: phone randomly won't receive calls or texts. Sometimes calling someone will fix it.
I read somewhere that on AT&T, calls and texts are received over 3G and sometimes phones have difficulty switching from 4G. Anyone know if this is true?
Do a full wipe /system, /data, /cache, /dalvik cache. And your problems should be gone 9 times out of 10 that's usually everybodys problem

Seems to still be working fine.
I started a thread on this also and just yesterday received some info from AT&T tech.

guys,
it is an ATT issue,
here is a temp solution for a fix:
1) With phone on, take off back cover and press your SIM card so it releases from the spring. It won't come all the way out as it's blocked by the battery. This seems fine - I didn't bother trying to force it out as I didn't want to break anything...
2) Once you see the message that the SIM card is removed, go to the dialer and dial *#2263#
3) You should see a menu with band selections. The current setting is "Automatic". If you switch to "GSM All", you will be EDGE (2G). If you switch to "WCDMA All", you will be on HSPA+ (3G, though AT&T and others call it 4G).
4) Press the SIM card back into place until it clicks. For whatever reason the phone will not recognize it until you reboot. Upon reboot you should see your new setting in effect
