Hi to all,a simple question, when i connect my fb account for the first time, the most part of my contacts syncronize with their contropart pictures in facebook.
At that point i think that when someone change his picture,at the next syncronization,i can find this pictures correctly set with his account.....but this doesn't happen......
There is something i must do to refresh the photo of my contacts?
Go into People > Select the Online Directories icon at the bottom > Click FaceBook > it should begin to refresh automatically but you can hit Menu and then refresh to force it.
You can select a single contact to view them and then hit refresh to update that specific person.
Hope that helps.
I get connection error when i do that. Wifi working fine too.
I have the same problem, when I go to online directories and refresh it, it shows the correct pictures, but when I go back to the people tab, for some people it shows correctly the new pictures, but for others the old ones.
so it doesnt update them automatically? are the photos stored on the phone?
Also another question...i note when i link my google contacts to facebook ones it added the reference in the notes section on the google contact. Does this mean if I reset the phone and downloaded contact/facebook sync again it would match them together?
Im having the same issue with my HTC legend it wont show the new face book pics even when i refresh contacts! its pretty annoying it should do it auto really!
are the pics stored in the phone memory or cache memory?
I refreshed and it's fine, over WiFi
My issue is more to do with the favorites widget, I can refresh my facebook contacts fine and all the photos are up to date but when i go back out to the main screen to my favorites widget the photos are same as when i first synced the phone any body got an idea what i can do?
its really annoying me they should be updated automatically anyways!
anybody know of a widget similar to the HTC favorites one?

I've read there is a solution (that doesn't involve not syncing) but I can't find it. I know that there is/was a problem when the contacts are synced, the contact picture is compressed in such a way it turns to a blurry mush.
So does anyone know the solution?
Seconded. This is really annoying.
as it occurs when you sync the contacts to google, turn off the contacts sync to google in the settings.
you don't have to sign out of google, just let it download the contacts and then turn off the sync.
Hi all, first post.
I managed to get decent non compressed pictures by clearing all contacts off my phone, clearing Google and Facebook cache and then re-syncing everything over Wifi rather than 3G.
Hope that helps.
i do all of mine via facebook and it works fine. of corse only works if all your friends and contacts are on facebook

I take it you then disable the auto sync? cos otherwise as soon as you change anything, it's going to sync and probably screw it all up for you.....
I can't be sure but I think I read somewhere that the reason this occurs is because our networks carry out some kind of compression on jpg images (O2 definitely do this), it was noticeable on my Hero that when browsing web sites images were better quality over wifi than using data over the network. The same compression is applied to the contact images hence the horrible quality and is also why when syncing over wifi this does not happen.
I could be wrong however....

I find that once it syncs the first time, unless there's a change with the image, i.e. your contact uploads a new profile picture, it sticks (I figured it sticks when I finally got on Wifi and it refused to re-download the pics no matter how many times I re-synced)
I don't know if this is still going on, I don't wanna revive old threads, but I've found a fix for this issue.
First off you need to make sure your google calendar or fbcal.com is unchecked :
-go to phone's menu, select calendar, hit 'menu' button, select 'more', go to 'calendars', uncheck google calendar (it may be displayed as gmail calendar)
After you have done that, uninstall your facebook for Android (you can install it later) is order to unsync your contacts so there will be no pics assigned.
Now comes the important part :
-go to phone's menu, select 'people', slide the screen selector over to 'online directories', select 'facebook', sign in........and you're done. Now you've activated "Facebook for HTC Sense", it's gonna sync by itself, the pictures will be crystal clear (will have the small blue facebook 'f' in the bottom left corner)
You can now install facebook for android back on your phone, but make sure you don't sync your contacts, or else you'll be back where you started !
Hope it helps !
I have my phone set up to link with Facebook profiles, but for some contacts I have chosen to use the phone picture instead of the Facebook one as the contact photo, this works fine for all my contacts set up like this except one, after a while the phone keeps changing back to using the Facebook photo on its own...
Anyone else seen this?
P.
Still have this problem after a hard reset, same contact, photo keeps being changed back to the facebook profile photo randomly after I've changed it to the one stored in the phone, seems to happen after a couple of hours each time, all other contacts where I have the phone photo rather than the fb one are fine.
Also, the "default action" for contacts (e.g. call mobile, landline etc.) seems to be frequently forgotten for contacts in general.
Anyone?
P.
If the contact is linked to their FB account I believe this takes priority over anything else. You'd have break the account link to use another picture
No, that's not the case, you can choose which picture you want to use, click on the word "linked" at the top of the contact's info then you can choose which info you want to use in "people"
There is a dropdown next to the photo where you choose and also next to the name (because sometimes the name in your phone and on fb aren't the same you can choose which you want displayed)
I use the phone photo in this way for around 10 contacts in preference to their fb one, and it works just fine, just not for this one contact, the setting never seems to "stick"
P.
Can't help you, I just use the FB ones. If I wanna use my own I remove the FB link
Still no solution?
I know it's an old thread but this thing is ridiculously annoying!! It is not related to FB linked contacts exclusively. It also happens with phone contacts that are linked to Google contacts. Their pictures change "sometimes" no matter if contact auto synch is enabled or not. And I haven't been able to define a pattern when this annoyance occurs.
I also think this could be something related to Google since my friend have the same problem with Samsung Galaxy S.
Does anyone have any information how to solve this without breaking the links?
I just got my wife a mytouch slide. Is there any way to make the native facebook syncing only sync facebook people that are in her address book with their picstures and stuff. It does that but even when its not set to snyc anyone else when you go to choose a person to text or whatever it shows her whole facebook friend list of like 400 people.
So is there a way to just have it sync her contacts in her address book and not have everyone from facebook in the list when she goes to text people? cause the only option seems to delete the facebook account from the settings so it doesnt snyc at all or everyone populates it. Thanks for any help.
From the actual Contacts menu (or People menu), press Menu > View and make sure Facebook is not checked in. I have my FB Contacts set to not sync, but their FB pictures show up, and I do not see any of the FB contacts that are not on my Google contacts when I go to select a contact when typing a message...
The way this phones seems to handle its contacts list is horrible.. I have some names up to 5 times from my sim, google and fb very annoying, I just want google, like the g1 used to be

1.) Link your contacts using the "link function" located on the top right corner of each contact.
2.) When in your main contacts view, hit the menu key>view>google. Make sure that its the only one selected.

I do have it like that and that works fine for the contacts app, but when u seard for a name for lets say a new text, it will show every single one individually. Im just going to ask for a SIM thats empty and not sync my FB
The problem with linking accounts that I found...
My ex has a very slutty picture as her facebook pic. I don't want my kids or myself to see that picture when I call/text her. There is an option to choose which picture to use for a contact in the linking page, but it reverts back to the facebook picture whenever it syncs!
I talked with T-mobile and they are aware of the issue and I asked if they could bring it up with HTC. Seems stupid to have a way to choose which picture if it never stays!
I have a lot of my Google contacts synced with my Facebook account but I set them to show the Google picture rather than the Facebook picture. Some of them work fine and show the Google picture but some of them show the Google picture for awhile and then switch back to the Facebook picture, and it stays on the Facebook picture until I go and switch it again. And then it switches itself back to the Facebook picture 5 minutes later.
This really frustrates me and I haven't been able to figure out how to fix it. Anyone know what's wrong?
Facing the same prob....

In the contact details tap the "linked" icon in the top right hand corner, then you can tap the contact photo itself and choose which one you want to use
as the OP states though, for some reason it doesn't always stick... for me it works for all contacts where I've done this (maybe 7 or 8) except one, which always switches back to the facebook photo...
P.
Ah!!! Good its not just me being an idiot then....i have this exact same issue!!!
only way to stop the pictures from changing is to switch off the facebook contact sync in account & sync settings.

So it's just a bug in Android? Like popkid said, some of them stick with the Google picture, and some of them switch back to the Facebook picture. And it's usually the same ones, like the ones that stick to Google for awhile usually stick to Google forever, and the ones that are gonna switch back to Facebook will do it almost immediately.
One thing I tried is just unlinking those specific contacts from their Facebook accounts, but if they have their phone numbers in their Facebook profiles, now that the contacts are separated the Facebook contact will override the phone/Google contact and it will show the person's full name and Facebook pic, so it still doesn't help.

I have the same problem as you are, I don't think it's a bug in Android but the Facebook sync itself. At the moment I just left the facebook contact sync off to stop the picture from being changed.
Look it's easy people.
Go to the contact. Choose link, choose desired photo, save and job done.
Took me a while to figure out too but the functionality is there.

As I said, that's exactly what I've been doing ...
1. I go to "link."
2. I click on the picture and choose the Google picture.
3. The picture changes to the Google picture.
4. A couple of minutes (or sometimes a couple of hours) later, the picture changes itself back to the Facebook picture.
Hi guys. I am loving my ZenWatch. The only issue I'm having is a blank contact photo for incoming calls. Does Android Wear only display Google+ contact photos? Most of my contacts have a Facebook contact photo. Of course the picture is displayed properly on my HTC One M8 phone, but on my watch it's always blank. Is there any way to correct this?

HTC have tended to use their own contact system on top of stock Android (linking contacts together, pulling photos from various sources). However, this data extra isn't saved to your Google contacts (except for some META data in contact notes).
I'm assuming that Wear gets its info from your Gmail contact details, so you need to have photos stored in there. I'm guessing slightly here, but when I moved from an HTC One to a Nexus 5 it was the largest sacrifice of leaving HTC. I had to manually add photos to all of my Google contacts (although there are some desktop utilities that can do it for you).
In short, if a contact is a Google+ Member, it will use that photo, otherwise it will use the photo stored in your Gmail account's contact entry (I think).
I know it's a pain, but the desktop utility I used asked for my Facebook login, Gmail login and then listed all of my contacts on both. I could link them together, press go and it pulled all of the Facebook photos and stored them with the Google account.
You only really have to do it once, and once it's done it's done. The plus side is that you can choose what photos you use for people, and you're not confused if you've got a friend that changes their profile pic several times a day.
You could do it manually on the desktop by logging into Gmail, selecting the contacts section, opening a Contact and adding a photo. I needed to do this for a couple, since their FB profile pics were too weird.
I'm guessing bits here, but I think I'm fairly spot on. Others may have quicker/easier ways of doing this, but I can dig out the app if you like. If this doesn't make sense, let me know since I'm typing in a hurry. I did like the Account merging facilities in HTC.
HaxSync
I found a very easy way to fix this. I installed HaxSync from the Play Store and this amazing app solved the blank contact photo for incoming calls on my smartwatch. I'm sure it's way easier than manually assigning pictures to the contacts. I'm a very happy camper.

I've noticed that mine will display the generic contact photo for a second or 2 after I receive a call. The saved contact photo shows up after about the 2nd ring or so. If yours is operating the same as mine, perhaps you're just answering the phone before the photo is sent to the watch.
