Recovering data, SMS issue - Desire General

Hey guys, I have just tried doing a hard reset and recover using the built in backup. It restored my data perfectly after the hard reset, although now when I recieve messages, the message does not go under the correct conversation.
For example I already have a conversation with BOB and JANE. I get a sms from JANE, which shows up inside BOB's conversation.....
I installed handcent sms which I guess I will uninstall and see how it goes. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

So far the only way to resolve this in my experience was to delete ALL sms threads. All the sms I am now receiving are going to the correct conversations. What a stupid bug.
I just went into my gf's conversation on my phone, then sent a sms through it, it went to my boss....WTF? I get a sms back from him and it goes into my gf's conversation.....

SMS not saved after restart

I have a problem
My SMS inbox total is 6867
My SMS sent items total is 7230
Im running a Dopod P800W (HTC3300) and Windows Mobile 5
Is there are limit to SMS counts ?
When I restart my phone, my SMS in my Inbox "forgets" all the SMS for that day as if I received none. Same applies for my sent items folder.
As long as I restart my phone, I would lose all the incoming SMS for that day and regardless how many times I restart, it would reset to that amount.
Sometimes, I get lucky and it "remembers" the SMS's but another restart would just delete them all. Its as if changes to the SMS database are not saved.
I have all the SMS's but newer SMS's are not remembered from yesterday onwards.
Any idea?
I think it's an annoying BUG as I have the same issue..
the work around is to make sure the message application is closed when you have finished with it as this sort of saves them...It would seem that if it's running when you restart/reboot phone it looses all unsaved messages so new messages must be seen as unsaved some how.
hope that helps..

what i managed to find out that a few SMS messages were bugged when I deleted them from the Deleted Items list
this was a few days ago..
I restored using SPB Backup to a date BEFORE deleting those messages and choose not to delete them (for the sake of this bug)
So after a few tests and restarts, I dont have this problem anymore
Looks like I have 2 leave these messages in the Inbox
I have had the same problem, but now, I cant save any thing and every time I receive a text message my ppc restarts after a while.
this happened after I deleted a message from the deleted items folder
(i have 13000 text messages in my inbox and 14000 in my sent items)
what should i do?
hei , this thread is still around
anyways, i did the same thing which got me into this problem
i cant really remember but it was to do with a corrupted SMS in the deleted items folder
the thing is that deleted SMS in the deleted items cannot be deleted forever so i decided not to delete it but just move it back into the inbox (13001/14000) and it worked again
Wow.. thanks jcsy... I did the same thing too
1. Identified the SMS that is bugged (somehow, this SMS appeared multiple times) which I deleted previously
2. Restored it from the deleted folder back into my Inbox
3. Restarted my PDA
Voila! It doesn't give any more errors.... my SMS are all in tact!
The question now is - would this 'bugged' SMS harm anything in our phone? Is it a virus?
i think its an SMS which should be corrupted somehow in the database since its a big one, which we maintain
thousands of SMS's
well, i didnt bother about it and now all my SMS continues to save as normal
glade that solved your problem
but ive got a new problem now instead, which is killing me...

Messages not threading correctly

Hey guys im using htc messenger. i dont like arcsoft as it eventually forces me to read messages via all messages. the thing with htc is it groups sent together with recieved on top instead of sent received sent received driving me nuts anyone know a fix?
I had this problem when I was flashing different roms, this worked for me once, and the other time it didnt and had no choice to delete the msgs (If thats an option for you) the first time with the HTC I went and changed the sms to traditional mode, and then exited (Thru task manager in the start menu) sms, then powered down the phone, then turned it back on and then went back to sms and changed it back to conversation mode and it fixed it, the second time that didnt work, because some how the time date stamp of the msgs got messed up and it was putting msgs inbetween msgs, so since the first way didnt work, I just backed it up and then cleared my sms. But try the first way and see if that fixes your problem.

[Q]Backing up messages, and call logs

I'll divide into both;
Messages; I am happily backing up my sms using sms backup and restore; and when i flashed a new rom, i had no problems with it restoring my sms. but i have one question, why all my mms didnt appear? t just appeared as blank messages. i would love if my mms would be shown in the messages too.
Call logs; I tried myBackupProand restored my call logs. the problem is, after restoring my contacts, and restored the logs, it wont recognize the contacts. it just shows the numbers, not the contact name that i saved. is there any other apps that does this perfectly? i've installed Call logs backup and restore but i kinda afraid to use it cuz afraid it'll be the same as myBackuPro. if someone could enlighten me would be great.
Thanks!

[Q] SMS problems

Hello!
When I send a new SMS, the sms is sent to "unsent messages" (But still sent to the recipent). So whenever I turn on my
phone, the sms that went to "unsent messages" are sent again, so that means the sms is sent to the same person twice. This, as you can understand, if quite frustrating, as it causes a lot of confusion and trouble.
Anyone experienced the same? I've tried to factory reset the phone, but it's still not working properly.
I also checked all the settings, but I can't find anything wrong. I haven't touched the settings prior to the problem either.
Also, I can't send MMS, perhaps it's related?
All answers are greatly appreciated!
Which network/country is this with?
If it's unsent and you exit the app, when you go back in it should be marked as unsent or still in the compose pane. How is yours?
Never had that issue myself (I'm a heavy texter).

It helps to know the Rom and any mods and third party software you re using such as handcent ...... Etc

[Q] Sending texts causes crash

There are two people (at least) that I can't send text messages to. One is on AT&T and one is on Sprint so their carrier isn't the issue. And it doesn't matter which sms app I use.
When I use Chomp I get this result: "Unfortunately, chomp SMS has stopped."
When I use the stock messaging app I get this result: "Unfortunately, Messaging has stopped."
There is no existing thread with these people and their cell phone numbers are valid. When they send me texts everything looks normal on their end but I don't get the message.
I am bone dry stock.
Any ideas? This is very annoying and I probably will have the same problem with other people, I just haven't discovered it yet.
I've never heard of this issue before

I don't think so. How do I check? When I long press their names in the contact list I see an option to "add to reject list" which suggests they aren't blocked. How else can I check?
I don't think I've blocked anyone. Is there a way to check everyone I've blocked? And on a related note, what happens when I add someone to the reject list? If they call me will they go straight to voicemail or what?

Are you opposed to rooting and trying out a ROM? I honestly don't know what's going on, but if it's crashing your sms programs, it sounds to me somehow software or settings related (but I've never seen anything that could do that). Since it's most-likely software related, I'd bet a fresh install would solve it.
But that being said, it's a really bizarre thing to have happened.
I'd try erasing the problem contacts and re-adding them before going too far into it. Very odd problem though, thats for sure!
It does not sound like you have anyone Blocked / Rejected. Did you install any apps before the issue started?

Honestly, I have never heard of this before. Usually, I would never want to bother sprint tech, but I would go show them and see what they think. That is very odd. Have you tried a factory reset? (Backup everything first)

Look it up.
So I'm in a major bind. I realized that the problem was for anyone who I didn't already have a sms thread with. If I send/receive text messages with someone that has an existing thread, it works fine. If they don't have a thread send/receive text fails as I described.
I tried uninstalling Chomp SMS and that didn't help. So I figured there might be some corruption in my text message store so I backed up my sms & mms and then deleted everything. Now I can't send/receive text messages from ANYONE and when I try to restore my text messages it fails. I backed up with two different apps to be safe and they both failed.
At this point it seems like the only option is a factory reset. Does anyone have another suggestion to fix this?
Before doing a factory reset I'd like to back everything up but I'm not rooted yet and to make matters worse I'm on vacation with my Mac rather than my Windows laptop -- so rooting is not possible. I don't want to do a factory reset and lose everything but I can't be away for this many days without the capability to send/receive text messages. Especially since people who are texting me have no idea I'm not getting their texts. FML
Turn on Mobile Data. Update Profile & PRL, Turn off your mobile data.
Backup export your contacts list. should be like a
Contacts.VCF file.
And backup your SMS messages if possible
Go into applications / All Applications > Wipe Data for both messaging apps + Wipe Contacts list.
Turn off your sync for contacts.
Reboot your device.
Open up both messaging apps and tweak / change what ever you need in the settings for both applications.
Turn on your data and reset LTE/CMDA CMDA/EVDO back and forth once
Reboot your phone.
Import your contacts list.
Re-sync your contacts.
Then try messaging them.
If that doesn't work then I have no clue what'll help with your issue being non-rooted.

I tried this, it didn't work.
Now I have another problem. When I try to sync my contacts, after restoring them from the backup, I'm getting an error. The error says "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." Maybe it will be back shortly but in my experience with a similar problem with calendar syncing a couple years back, this is not so easy to fix.
Any suggestions?
Your firmware and base is updated to MD4 right?
EDIT:
Have you tried Go SMS Pro Using this method?
Download from Google play
Open application and go to settings
Click Advanced Tab.
Click MMS Settings
Checkmark Fill APN Configuration Manually.
Code:
MMSC
http://mms.sprintpcs.com
MMS Proxy
68.28.31.7
MMS Port
80
Force Close application, and then reboot it, and now try sending something SMS or MMS.
Yes, I'm on MD4.
I actually think MD4 may have something to do with this. The first time I noticed the problem was right around the time I installed MD4. It was within a day, either right before or right after. For some reason Sprint pushed MD4 to may waaaaay after everyone else got it which is why I just recently got it.
I tried your Go SMS Pro technique but got not joy. The stock messaging app still crashes. Go SMS doesn't crash when I send messages but nothing is actually sent. And whenever someone sends me text messages I still don't get them.
