Hi all. May be stupid question but ... Is there any differences between HTC Desire and HTC Desire A 8181. I just google 'HTC Desire A 8181' and all results are (Unlocked).

Nope... A8181 is just the model number.. Like the KAIS130 on the Kaiser...

Not so sure about that... when you do a support call to HTC in the dropdown it has listed them as two seperate devices...
I am thinking that the A8181 is the LCD version, as they ship them without AMOLED now due to shortages of AMOLED screens...

No - my Desire is an A8181, and it's AMOLED and I've had it for months. I don't know if the SLCD version has been given a new model number, but the Telstra Desire was the A8183 and the only difference between it and the A8181 is support for different radio bands.

OK, I do know the difference between the A8181 and A8183. I am seeing quite a few cheap chinese dealers selling something called "HTC Desire G7" and the photos & specs look identical to A8181.
Can someone explain the differences please?
G7 sounds like a T-Mobile designation similar to what they did with the HTC: Dream (G1), Magic (F2f I think) and Hero (G3 or G4)

G7 means htc desire in china,as same as A8181
G1~G7 means htc's android phone:dream, magic, hero, tatto, nexus one, legend and desire

As mentioned before, the G7 on the chinese websites seems to be way cheaper than what you can get in Australia(see TradeTang). However, I was just wondering if the phone would work as well as the A8181 on any network, and if there is any trade off in terms of quality?

I have a water damaged HTC desire. Motherboard needs replacement. HTC UK charges for replacing the same is as good as buying a new phone.
Can anyone suggest where to get a replacement motherboard at a reasonable price?

I have a spare motherboard. It's fully working. It's only vodafone branded but you can remove that with a goldcard. PM me for the price you have in mind. PS, you need a amoled screen. If you have a SLCD it will not work.

Bare in mind that debranding will probably mean you can't get the newer OTA updates as HTC seem to have got wise to it. You'd have to wipe all data using an RUU to get up to date

That's exactly what I'd like to understand too!!
I suppose that International HOX touchscreen has the HTC logo, instead of the At&T one which has the At&T logo.
However what I'd really like to understand is whether those displays are original HTC or just compatible and worse quality ones.

Should work as long as both the 816n has a Qualcomm processor. The only difference is the radio bands. I'm only 95% sure though
