i have a day-old desire which i initially loaded up with a few apps but found that the process would crash when i tried to manage my applications.
i guessed that one of my apps was causing this so i did a hard reset (clear storage).
now when i try and enter my vodafone apn settings the process there crashes.
i've done another hard reset but this hasn't fixed it ...
is there some way that i can fully restore the phone to factory settings or do i now have to return the phone ?
thanks in advance
have found that Privacy / Factory Reset has solved the problem.

Hey guys, I have done a few things to the phone and now am interested in doing a hard reset.
I have rooted the phone with superoneclick, (Will I lose root doing a hard reset-- my guess is no)
I have disabled some bloatware and uninstalled a few ATT apps. I will be sure to enable all of the apps that i disabled, BUT I am wondering if I will have any issues because I uninstalled those ATT apps? Do you see that as being a problem.
Last, I modified the lockscreen file so that it removed the emergency call button, do you see that causing any issues doing a hard reset?
Thanks
No, you will not loose root.
Can't say for sure about att apps, if you removed them with app manager or market, then they will be restored with hard reset, if you removed them with something like titanium backup, then they might gone forever.
I guess you could just flash system.img from the unbrick post before you do hard reset, at least that will for sure restore any bloatware you removed.
Also, not sure you are going to wipe data using cwm, if yes, then be careful since CWM currently has problem when wipe data, use following step instead:

My girlfriend updated her Galaxy S3 OTA and hasn't been unlocked,rooted...etc
But gmail,play store...etc aren't working a process.gapp crash when I turn the phone on,who do I fix that
I'd be tempted to factory reset.
You could root and wipe the cache, etc.
Or maybe just as the phone is now go into apps and clear data/cache for the offending apps.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I would prefer not doing a factory reset because it would downgrade the OS and delete all her apps...etc
Anyone?
A factory reset would not downgrade the OS, but it would delete all apps and data. As mentioned earlier, I would go the the apps settings screen and clear cache on apps that were offending and on all service apps. If that doesn't help, clear data on them as well. If it's still having problems than a factory reset would be the only other thing to do unless you're willing to root the phone (and most root methods involve odin which would result in a factory reset anyway).
My i19082 goes into a constantly repeating reboot cycle if the "Sync" function is activated. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance for any comments.

More details? Rooted, or installed any custom mods or etc? Try factory reset, if else not working then you will have to flash your firmware again.

Thanks for the response. I'm a novice - how do I find out if the phone is Rooted? How do I do a factory reset? Or, where can I find information on these issues?

Alright, if like that means you haven't play anything on your phone yet, To resolve that, go to Settings > Backup and reset > factory reset your device.
Warning all apps will be lose your apps and all will be reset to default. (*just like you have newly bought your phone)
You can backup your SMS messages using SMS Backup & Restore app. Search for it in Playstore, If you want to backup your contacts, just export your contacts to SD card.

Is there anything that I could try first that isn't so catastrophic that it wipes out everything on the phone ? . . .

Or, you can try remove all your account and add them again then disable the Sync, See if it helps, if not, try reset your phone. If you are very unlucky even after reset the problem still presist, you should sent to Samsung Service Centre, maybe is hardware related issue.
Does anyone else has been finding recently that certain apps do not work anymore?
Google search and Linkedin so far, give me "Unfortunately, google search/Linkedin has stopped"
I don't remember installing something that may harm, or doing something to change the software version.
P.S. same thing started a week ago for one colleague with S2, and every day new apps stopped working. At the end, Factory Reset was done, but i don't know the outcome now...

Thanks. I did not manage to get boot into recovery...so factory reset solved the issue for now.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2534420 I recommend to you to install TWRP also, since it has an option for dalvik cache wiping.

do the factory reset will flash all the settings plus all the apps???how does the factory reset works???i also have same problem that some services were stopped...
Hi,
posting here because I think most experts are arround on this board.
I have the problem that my S3 keeps crashing randomly. I don't know what is causing the crash. Its happening when I open the Chrome browser while some page is loading. Sometimes its crashing when I open Hangouts or WhatsApp. Some times its even crashing when I navigate through the phone settings...
I had the feeling that this started happening since Samsung / T-Mobile rolled out Android 4.3 to my device. So I did a upgrade of the firmware from 4.2 to 4.3. Because I had this feeling that my provider f**** things up and my phone started to crash because of this upgrade I flashed the custom rom Cyanogen Mod to my Device. This has not solved my problem
So at the moment I am running the S3 with Android 4.4.2 cyanogen MOD stable release.
What else can I do to locate / solve the issue? I already tryed to uninstall multiple app's without any changes.
Thanks for all your help
Do a factory Reset. Then do not restore any apps. Leave it be. See if it is stable.
If that does not help, then go to recovery, wipe, data, Dalvik & Cache. Re-Flash CM. Do not restore anything.

Before factory Reset, turn off Android Backup in Settings > Backup.
