Does anyone else have an issue with random things not working, a reboot fixes that but breaks something else.
- no pinch zoom in maps
- cannot purchase market apps
Now the latest one is "manage applications" is just force closing. Even my G1 was more reliable in this respect.
Any insight would be appreciated.
had my phone for about 2 weeks now and apart from contacts problem which reboot fixed and a random turn off, didnt have any problems so far, guess yours could be faulty?
When I change keyboards I sometimes lose pinch to zoom and have to reboot, but other than that don't have any problems.

I'm in the UK. A reboot fixed the issue, as it always does.

Hmm how long has it been since setting it all up. It might just be all of the google stuff syncing... I had the same thing happen to me! Leave it for 20 minutes or something and see if it works any better
same issue here.. I HATE IT
I doubt it is because of root or rom. I had this issue as wel up until yesterday. It was suddenly fixed. I think because I usually install apps using Astro (or any file explorer), because of hard resetting etc. I thought maybe if i install an app directly from the market, it would fix it. I installed 'msn talk', did a reboot and it's fast now.. I don't know if this was what made it work, but it's working great now.
edit: before that I tried to uninstall a market update and reinstall again. But it was still slow after uninstall, reinstall and cleared caches.
I am on a non rooted device btw.
I`ve rooted 4 devices today and all same to have this issue .. ?
Just out of interest were any of you also missing the "top paid" tab as well. It was missing from my market after rooting as well as the slowdown, then it just appeared about a half hour in. Also did any of you have a similarly slow market when you first got the device. I am on T-mobile and for the first couple of days it was lagging in much the same way as it is now. Maybe it is to do with something new devices do, like the Google sync suggested.
I found that it is best to install all apps manually. Backup programs somehow slow everything down for me! Plus I dont know if the updates are pushed to you because the g market doesnt think you have installed them
My market is so slow but I didnt rooted my device

It's the same with mine (not rooted) since about 4 days. Have to keep rebooting even to try and install/uninstall anything.

Hmm..
No problems here at all.
Fast market, top paid apps showing.
Rooted with r3 linux cd method.
did not install a2sd.
so far no hiccups at all.
I'm getting this. Rooted, Apps2SD.
Been on a few different ROM's, now back to the original rooted one.
Not all of my restored apps (using Titanium Backup) were showing when I went to Downloads. What I have just done is got Settings - Applications - Manager Apps and cleared the market cache and all the apps seems to have returned. Still very slow though... but maybe getting quicker. Is it a syncing thing?
Anyone that did have the slow down, is it getting quicker now?
I can confirm, clearing the market cache seems to fix this.

Hello,
Yes before i rooted the Market was a dogs arse, Very slow, then after a day or to, it was as fast as i would expect it to be, then i rooted my device, again it was slow for a few days, but is now back to normal.
I think it just needs time to sort its self out, like a alcholic the morning after!!.
The only thing i have used diffrently since i rooted was the cache cleaner app in the market.
I can confirm, clearing the market cache seems to fix this.

It's not instant, but I had to do it again yesterday. I cleared cache and installed about 30 apps. By that time the market was back up to speed.
what if you have no cache to clear and the problem still persists
try logging into google talk, that works for me
First it was ilomilo, now Flixster. An update shows available, appears to download fine, then it just seems to abort and nothing happens. The app then continues to show update available. And if I retry the status goes from Pending to Installing, but the progress bar never moves and the app never updates.
Tried everything short of a factory reset, and the only solution seems to be to uninstall the app completely and reinstall.
Is there another fix? Some apps have still updated fine.

i have had the problem for a while now.... theres some games as well
When it happens to me, and it has happened about 3 times now, I delete the app and then reinstall it.

This bug happened when a developer update the app, and change the name of this app. For example, surfcube browser is update to 1.2 and the developerschange the name of the app in surfcube 3d browser.
i have the same bug!!

I have only noticed this will trial versions of apps. If you have a trial app, then you have to uninstall and re-download to update it. As for ilomilo and some other games, you have to use Wi-Fi to download the game. There is a file size limit(don't know what it is) but that was the only way I could get Harvest, Earth Worm Jim, and the Ilomilo update from my phone.
Try deleting the market cache. That's resolved that issues for me on the few occasions it has popped up.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using Tapatalk
Yeah, I have only noticed this when using trial apps as well so I think that's the problem. Maybe its Microsoft's idea of making you want to buy the app as the trial version update procedure is annoying lol

It's happened with free apps also.
Being unable to update to update trial apps is quite a well documented bug with the marketplace and is going to be fixed
this issue can be solved by uninstalling and re-installing the app.

Anyone else seeing Google Maps FC a lot lately? It seems to be related to finding my location (either in Latitude or Maps itself). Sometimes the map tiles won't get drawn, other times it just force closes.
Seeing this on mine (GSM) and my GF's VZW version.
Nop but have you tried clearing the app cache?

YES! this happens with me too lately! dunno why!
SOLVED for me!
Had the same issue, and this worked for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1467313
I was experiencing the same thing and chalked it up to a bug so I uninstalled Maps updates and have been refusing to update until a new version comes out.
The fix permissions thing, I feel like that could be risky... I guess I could take a nandroid backup first and then try it.
I am having this problem and I just bought my GSM Nexus from Play Store... Whats wrong with Maps app? Keeps force closing...
STOCK. Not rooted.
Cleared cache and settings in Settings > Apps > Clear.

And the problem continues to this day. I almost wanted to start a new thread, until I stumbled upon this one.
Stock Jellybean JRO03C, rooted, slightly themed (to get rid of gradient background). Maps is at 6.9.2 as shipped with the image, and have not had an update since.
Maps keeps force closing every few hours even when I'm in other apps and have not started Maps myself. FC reports says it's an out of memory exception. This only started after I upgraded to JB; it was fine on all versions of ICS, even when rooted.
I had this issue upgrading from 4.2 to .4 uninstalling the map updates did the trick

Unfortunately I don't have an update I can uninstall.
I have for now restricted it from doing background data and see what happens. Next - block it off using Droidwall; still next - disable it outright...

I'm experiencing a very annoying what seems common problem.
Where HTC locations loads itself automatically at random intervals.
I have looked all over the site for a fix but unable to find it.
Tried deleting the navigation folder from .data. cleaning usb socket. Resetting phone. Clearing all caches etc
I have also installed an app called "skip HTC locations" but hasn't and isn't doing a thing. Also notice its happening more and more when pluggging in my charger
But its still happening. And assistance is greatly appreciated

Its not a rooted phone so unable to uninstall i think ?
in applications i have both "locations" and "locations launcher"
only thing i can do is clear cache which i have done and on "locations" i can "uninstall updates" which i have also tried and problem is still there,
Just that when i have removed the updates, it still automatically starts up "htc locations" randomly and then asks me to download files.
Hmm yea It's not much to do when you are not rooted I think. =\

Same problem here, did you manage to fix it?
I had the same problem yesterday. I really went mad! It started locations like 5-6 times and wanted to download some update and maps, I just couldn't get rid of it! Then I downloaded something and it prompted me to download (actualy purchase) individual maps and I rejected and then all of a sudden it stopped. The phone was NOT in the charger. No new popups since.

Still doing it to me, whether in charger or out. Posted a thread about it which is down the page but no replies!!!
I have found a "fix" for the issue.
I could not root my phone for some reason, so normal uninstall of locations wasn't an option for me.
I cannot exactly tell the steps I have done, cause I tried several things at a time and I don't know which one worked, but the main thing was:
- I made a factory reset, which did not change much appart from that I could plug in the phone to PC and see it as a drive.
- I removed some files related to locations from SD card
- In one of the menus related to application managment I had an option to reinstall locations
- I clicked on it
- AND I removed the battery in the middle of installation
- After turning on "Locations" were asking about making an install once again, but I chose an option "go to hell" and voila, no more hate against your own phone.
FIX by destruction

I got rid of it by long-pressing on it, going to App Info, and force-stopping the service. I don't know what it was, but I didn't like it.
EDIT: It was actually Downloads, not Facebook, that I ultimately force-stopped.

I just got it. 30 min ago. Tried uninstalling FB no dice. Can not clear notification icon.
I held the notification until it said App info, then it took me to the download manager where I did a 'force stop' and then it went away.....then came back : /
but then I cleared the download manager data and it seemed to work.

3. Openn Download manager

Yeah, same here. Pretty fishy since I don't have auto updates turned on. Just noticed it running in my notifications. I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S2 (Epic 4 G Touch) on Sprint. This thread was the only mention of "Facebook (build 140579)" that Google turned up.

Forced stop dl manager and clear data worked here. Odd.
Looks like it has something to do with Google Music app. When I force quit it, it stopped my music. When I kicked my music back on, it started trying to download it again.
It's the Download Manager

The app you're Force Stopping is Download Manager. Among other things, it handles the streams for music, video, etc. That's why it's affecting (and being affected by) apps like Play Music.
Same on my DNA. I did the force stop on the download manager as well. Facebook must just be screwing with our privacy again!
same thing just happened on my s3, i let it do whatever it was for a few but then decided to clear the data and force stop. Odd little thing no one seems to know what its doing.
Same issue on Motorola Admiral (rooted).
Clearing the data on the Download Manager got rid of it (didn't force stop).
Sorry for the lateness. But yea I did the same thing and it stopped for me. It's weird too cuz when I checked the download app, there was no source
