Custom HTC/Nexus One Boot Animation without sound
bootloop_wo_sound.zip
To backup:
Code:
Go to command prompt type:
adb pull /data/media/bootscreen/ C:
Instead of C: you can put any directory you want.
To install:
Code:
1. Unpack the ZIP of your choice (I recommend to C:/Boot/)
2. Assuming you unzipped it in C:/Boot Go in command and type:
adb push C:/Boot/boot.gif /data/media/bootscreen/
adb push C:/Boot/bootloop.gif /data/media/bootscreen/
adb push C:/Boot/boot_animation.xml /data/media/bootscreen/
adb push C:/Boot/boot.mp3 /data/media/bootscreen/
Note: Anyone interested in taking the HTC Quietly Brilliant section of the boot animation for your own boot animation you're free to extract it. Just mention me in the credits please. It took me a retarded amount of time to merge 2 gifs together.
Nice!
This will definitaly be my new bootscreen
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for this, installed as my new boot.
Testet on Cyanogen 4.2.15.1: no function
It's nice, but the nexus animation stutters, unlike on actual eclair roms (where it's implemented in a different way). Probably nothing to be done about that.

I could try adjusting the delay time per frame, but that would just artificially make it seem like it's going smoother.
Also, I think it might have to do with the fact I made the animations a full 320x480. I'll try to reduce the sizes.
I'll try some modifications out and re-post an update if they works well.

I'll check the implementations on 1.6 ROMs and higher and see if I can come up with something.
I'd need someone to test it though.
Could you please confirm how to instal on the Stock rom wich is rooted from europe with edition : 3.05.401.3 because i cannot detect with adb. Do you know what might be the issue? Thank you

I think eclair roms would work, but Incase you didn't know.. (I think you know but I guess ill try and explain anyway. I don't even know why the other member tried this because the files don't even go in the same folders as the bootscreen files do for 1.6 lol. The folder doesn't even exist and they use completely different image files. Some people, good lord. I bet if you put FLASH THIS UNKNOWN RADIO, someone would do it. Test it one day! haha)
1.6 uses two images, i think it's a png image. One sits there, and the other scrolls through. You could definitely make the HTC shine (pretty easy if you do it one way, but probably relaly difficult or almost impossible to have it shine as nicely. It'd be a pain in the butt to work with transparency). And the quietly brilliant, well it's basically nearly impossible to make it move as nicely. You could definitely have it do the quietly brilliant like that but having it synchronizing and **** would be a pain in the butt and perhaps not even possible. Just don't do it, it's not easy for 1.6 and you dont have much control over the bootscreen scrolling. I don't know if I'm clear but you should understand where I'm heading with this lol. Unless you wanna recode etc etc all that for a bootscreen, then perhaps it will become more possible!

I extracted the quietly brilliant section from an Eclair ROM. So I don't think it would be a stretch to get it to work on them.

No it doesn't. That's an RBG bootscreen replacement. There are a few threads on how to do that.

Flashing the boot screen
I think this is a brilliant screen and thank you for making it, but, before my phone potentially becomes a brick, is there an easier way to flash a new boot screen other than going through adb, such as maybe flashing the zip through a recovery?
Thanks for your support!

anyway, very good work! keep working on it!
Sent from my Hero using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
So uhm are there any real differences? Or am I just plain stupid and miss them. 5.2 is good enough for everyday use as well....
Note: this is not meant to be rude or anything. It's allways good to see more devs
Man, it's nice to see new faces, but you're not bringing anything new to the table, just a "rehash" of someone's ROM.
Like someone once wrote, proficiency with winzip doesn't make you a dev, and it's sad to see ppl just playing around with winzip, adding a few apks, changing a few lines and posting "new stuff".
I wanted to look the other way, just like I did with the other new "chefs", but hey, guy, you even had the very good idea to add a donate link to your sig., not even reaching 10 posts!
Unless you bring something new, I don't think it's a good idea to post, since it's just spam.
That might come in handy for you: "innovation, not imitation"
I didn't say it is brand new stuff. As I mentioned in the first post, it's based on Vanillain ROM. If you try my version and the original version you'll definately see a difference in both speed and stability.
Really, I don't think this is as useless as you might consider it. Maybe I'm not the only 'vanilla android' fan around here looking for a stable release.
What's with the attitude people... He posted a ROM he thinks is good and he wants to share his work, even if it's not *NEW*...
Download or don't download but give him a break... let people try and feedback, maybe you'll find he didn't just "zip" the ROM...
RaduG thanks for your work and share. I'm into Sense UI so I won't be trying this but again, thanks for sharing!
Ok so here it goes.
Just did a restart after setup and it is fast but switching between screens i a bit slow (will give it some more time). The launcher has only 3 screens "helix" I think you could use a different one.
Oh and the 3G watchdog could be an option. It is useful but i bet not all people would like it.
At the and of the day i think this is a great ROM. Stable and ready to be used as an everyday ROM
Thanks for your feedback.
I've tested different launchers available and the HelixLauncher included in this ROM is the most stable in my oppinion. I will wait for more feedback and if you users like it I will take the apps you don't like out.

It's not a matter of software being new, but seriously, just how many rehashes of base roms shared by other devs were posted?
How many "chefs" DID compile their own custom overlay of aosp?
In fact, nprussel was using mine for quite some time, but didn't react since he really has contributed a lot in these forums; in fact, I'd congratulate him.
Apart from some additional apks, I don't see anything new in here (same old bugs, "features" of other roms based on the leaks)
The one thing that really ticked me off, is the "audacious" donate link for what is, let's face it, a rip atm.
I've taken it off since you first posted. You're somehow right, but i really don't think this is useless. I'm 100% sure this is the most stable Android 2.1 you can download on the forum ATM. Since it is an improvement and i've given credits to the source, i don't think there is a real issue.
Still waiting for feedback.
Could not get it to work, did a full wipe, then flashed.
Then it boots and every single thing that starts crashes: 'sorry ... setup stopped unexpectedly'
I have the latest radio.
Managed to mount my sdcard between all the error screens luckily, so I'll put another ROM onto my phone in 5 minutes.
Strange, a few users tested and everything worked perfect. Please try a full wipe after install and post results. Thanks.
Going to check it.
This is my third rom, so I should now more or less how to install it, but what do you mean with wipe after install? My actions, in order:
put zip on sd card
boot in recovery
wipe whatever I can wipe (system and cache, I do not have an ext partition so no point wiping that)
flash
boot
so which step then?

Compared it to aHero?
Any real differences from aHero?
Yep, i've ran aHero, great build too! But this is more stable and works better with Live Wallpapers.
This is rooted stock ROM as it comes out of the box with latest OTA. Nothing is changed, except root access.
It is simply nandroid backup image of stock ROM, clean with root access, as I'm not good at ROM cooking. As far as I know Villains are already working on VR13 anyway so if you want flashable ROM just be patient.
For the reference:
latest OTA version fixes Peep security issues and also patches a lot of other system files
ROM is very fast (fastest Sense ROM I ever used) even with default kernel (Neocore:34fps @710 with Flykernel)
very stable, nice low memory killer, even under intense use, like listening music and browsing, Rosie stays in memory
compatible with Flykernel
/system partition is full so if you need busybox you will need to remove some apps.
boot.img is not modified so ro.secure=1 is set to 1. Functions like adb root or adb remount won't work. I started to look into it, but I got lost so if some devs are willing to change it then you are more than welcome.
INSTALL:
unzip file to sdcard/nandroid/[phone_serial_number]/
reboot into recovery
do your ROM backup
do full wipe
restore this ROM from backup
when you use 1st time adb shell, su, don't forget to click "Allow" for superuser

----------------------------------- OTA -------------------------------------
edit: as far as I know it brings update for peep client. Looking more deeply whats inside teddy bear it seems that it patches a lot more files. Also seeing that 2nd major version number changed from 32 to 36 I guess it brings more than some minor updates/bug fixes.
OTA_Hero_HTC_WWE_3.36.405.1-3.32.405.2
P.S.Btw, don't install OTA update on rooted phone. In the best case it will pop an error, in the worst you will loose root access to your phone.

Interesting. Might HTC have a surprise for the 2.1 hero owners? It's just 6 megs though so maybe a small update to Sense? Found a guy on a swedish forum that also reported that they found an update... interestingly.

Its small size because HTC uses patches instead of changing whole file.
That Peep update is only for the HTC WINMOBILE phones. Didnt see an android one in it.

couldn't install it though (phone is rooted)
anybody able to change it for rooted device?
thanks
Is it possible to change the file for a rooted device? Because I don't like the idea of installing the original ROM again and lose al my settings and apps.
Ok.
To install this, you need to have all the files identical to that way HTC shipped it
So don't try to flash it. If I get time, I will look at making it safe and usable by patching against a clean ROM manually
just checked for updates on my orange hero uk and its there

Not really got anything interesting to comment on yet tbh...
Just deodexing and optimising. I'm not sure if I can get it out tonight or not... Depends on the upload time, and whether or not I will do it then, or upload tomorrow... Even then it might be evening Depends on how much time I get at my PC...
Nothing major yet that I've seen in it though.
I got this update on gsm hero, not rooted, rom 3.32.405.2 I think from htc. This update breaks my phone. After the reboot it stays at the "HERO" screen for ever.

Oh, no rush. Whenever its ready. Btw you could just release clean untouched version, rooted with busybox and leave it odexed.
Ok. I couldn't bear to see the hideous mess it was from HTC...
I deodexed and optimised it fully. I rooted it, and busyboxed it.
But, I got tired and put wrong busybox in it, so it broke.
I will look at it again tomorrow.
Will see about a stock version too, but my upload speed is useless so I will need to see what I can do
I have a Sprint SPH-L710 running stock rooted 4.1.2 with the MD4 build. I haven't bothered keeping up with the latest-and-greatest, but I know I'm several Android releases behind. Last I was following it, there were some issues with 5.x and being able to root it, and I got wrapped up in some work stuff for a while and didn't keep up.
So, can someone please point me towards the best direction to get the latest-and-greatest updates from here? It's started freezing-up on me, a few times a week, so I need to wipe everything and start clean anyways. I'm happy using TouchWiz, just want to get current again. Can someone point me down the best path to get there? I'm not sure if I should return to stock, let the carrier updates load, and then re-root, or if I should just flash the latest ROM with what I've got?
(I know about enough to be dangerous, but I'm a mechanical engineer by trade, so type slowly and use small words please... )
Thanks!

My ROMs: Wicked X & Wicked S5 Xperience
I did the NJ2 update per your link, and now I'm stuck in a boot-loop... Samsung title--> Samsung swirl--> Sprint splash page--> reboot... Does that twice, then hangs on the Samsung title page indefinitely.
Odin says everything installed successfully, but no-go... Going to try and return to MD4... Got my fingers crossed...
Update: Can't go anywhere... I booted into ClockWorkMod recovery in an attempt to go back, but I can't figure out where I saved my backup. Not a happy camper right now. On the plus side, it's not bricked. On the minus side, it won't boot, so it may as well be. I'm trying to flash another ROM, but not having any luck... It's gonna be a late night I guess...
ETA: Update: Got it to start loading MD4... (I guess it helps if you stop panicking and select the right file from the SD card LOL!) It says it installed successfully, but now I get nothing...
Literally nothing... The power button does nothing whatsoever. (and yes, I put the battery in the right way...) If I plug in the USB cable, my Found New Hardware wizard pops up on the computer, but I get no response from the phone... I think I bricked it...

Try wiping your internal SD and then Odin NJ2 again. If you can't do that, there are a few guides on debricking in General and Q&A sections as long as you have an SD Card and a PC, you should be able to save it.

There's like two or three other guides, I think that one is the most recent though.
My ROMs: Wicked X & Wicked S5 Xperience
All the links loop back to that one... They may have been merged. If it involves Linux, I'm out... Completely clueless on that front.

Must be an error in zip, Ill fix that and Re-Upload it..
Update: Do to a problem with the Zip file, I had to Redo Zip. New one has been tested by me, And works.
Sorry for the inconvenience..
BTW: This kernel is worked on all the time, So new updates will be released alot. I already know of a few more things that I want to add.
My Goal is to make this Operate at low temps while keeping its performance as well at Longer Battery Life.
One of my test builds, The battery lasted me 3 days on a single charge. Without heavy usage.
My temps range betwen 87f /30c - and - 100f/37c (Stabilize around 97f/ 36c).

You must have gotten the zip that was bad before I replaced it with new one...........
Cause I tested the new one my self. and it worked......
@Eliminater74
Keep it up! It will get easier over time and its nice to look back and see how you have become more adept at what you are doing.
Just some friendly advice:
1. Always give proper credit
2. Always make clean commits.
1. is just because we do this for fun and for some sort of recognition (Even if some Devs won't admit it) and 2. because it makes troubleshooting, and reverting WAYYYY easier. When I started, I learned this the hard way. This way if you get into a situation where you have to make reverts or reset the branch, you are able to be more surgical about what you remove. If you have a commit that has alot going on in it then sometimes you cannot revert cleanly and it will have to be done manually. This can sometimes leave you more prone to make simple mistakes. Ones that we ALL make when Dev'ing late at night after a day of hard work and should really be getting more sleep. lol
Oh and 3. Learn to use Meld properly. This will make merging so easy, and will save you a metric crap ton of time.
If you need anything, feel free to PM me.

Render
Anybody get a successful boot? I flashed on my existing 20e Rom and even on a fresh install of the Rom and doesnt boot. Stays on LG splash screen. Thanks.

This Kernel is for Aosp only that is why your rom is not booting past the splash screen.

Wow, I would of never thought that someone like you would stop in to say anything. And very positive feedback indeed..
When I saw your name, I thought I was seeing things. I had to look twice.
But thanks man... I appreciate everything you said.. It all makes perfect sense..
It's a pity this kernel won't work with slim based roms. I really wanted to try it. Running Tesla ROM and it gets stuck on boot-up screen.

Apparently only the original 777kernel works with Tesla. Tesla is lollipop 5.1.1_r4. Thanks anyway.
Proof that it works with Slim based Roms.....
PS: Thats not a screen shot of my phone.. its a friends..

As anyone who has unlocked the bootloader on their 5X knows, this message appears at startup. I've flashed the PureNexus ROM and then the EX Kernel but neither of these removes the message. It's not a huge deal since everything is working as it's supposed to. Just not sure what can be done to remove that message.
I believe there is nothing we can do, short of getting our hands on an engineering bootloader.
I was wrong, see post #6 below!
Unlocking the BL is the only way to root, right?

It might be possible to replace the images with this tool:

Judging by the screenshots, It looks like you're right - The delay would still be there but happy to stand corrected here!
Useful note from the thread:

Just tested, and yes you can visually remove the warnings, but note flashing a custom imgdata file will cause the bootloader to boot to the red error screen instead of the yellow one, so you will want to update the images for all of the warning messages to remove it.

Warning message is an Eye Sore!, my offer
That caution warning is a complete downer.... I would be willing to pay 250 dollar bounty to a deve who can either:
1. remove the warning as a stand alone solve or ,
2. force the Google screen to run in its place for that time period.
3. Packed as a zip to flashed in recovery or an img. for fastboot flash...
Think in time, as more of the phones get out in public, it will help the community who wants the unlock but not the eye sore warning...
So far my exploring has scored a big zero to solve the issue...
I'm putting it out there for whoever wants to give it a go. It will be good for the community.
Cheers, CG
I've been thinking about this, but my android-fu isn't too strong. I still need to do a bunch of research.
There are three warning messages - yellow, orange, and red. I think you get the yellow one when the bootloader is unlocked and the red one when the verity checksums do not match the actual rom (I.e., something has been modified).
I think one way would get rid of the messages would be to relock the bootloader and also update the checksums so that they do match. I might be missing something here, but the issue with locking the bootloader, is that we won't be able to flash any new recoveries. I think this can be worked around by flashing the new recovery as a zip file, not an image. My marshmallow-fu isn't great in this area, so I'm not sure what has changed recently that prevents this.
The red warning might be harder and I need to do more research into the checksum process and how the rom is verified. I suspect this has to do with the dm-verity bits.
Edit: OK, I did 20 mins of "research" - http://source.android.com/security/verifiedboot/verified-boot.html#overview
We will get the orange warning if the bootloader is unlocked.
If the bootloader is locked, we will get the yellow warning whenever the signatures don't match the OEM key, but do match the public keys (user, not OEM) used to sign the images.
The red warning can be avoided by signing the images and including the public key.
As noted above, the images can be changed to reduce the eyesore. In a more ideal world, we would just get the yellow warning.
I really hope one day we can get rid of that eye sore

I've made a couple of replacements that you might like to flash.

This worked perfectly using the fastboot flashing method. That ugly message is now gone. Thanks!
Works perfect!
Just flashed via fastboot!
Annoying screen is gone!
THANKS

Used subtle zip, flashed with TWRP. Worked like a champ.:good:
I already love this mod. It could be 100% perfect if it had the exact unlock pad underneath google just like the boot screen, though. Still amazing work!

Glad to know the zip works! Since I haven't said it here, be sure to grab the stock.zip from the first post of bitdomo's thread (linked above). Important for any "uh-oh" moments or updates.

That shouldn't be too hard, thanks for the feedback. I could rush out a quick version, but posting up images just before I sleep doesn't fill me with ease.
No promises but hopefully I'll have time tomorrow
Created another version of subtle with an unlocked padlock. Check the main thread above for them.
If someone wanted the visible option with a padlock, please let me know.
You should start your own thread in the Mod section! People will really love this but its too hard to find! THANK YOU AGAIN!
^^ Agreed!

I noticed these are for BHZ10i, that's a model number right? Mine is mhc19j, can this be used for my phone as well? or how to disable the warning for my Nexus 5X?

Okay, figured out that this is bootloader version, right? mine says BHZ10m, so I ask again, will this work with my Nexus 5X? (bought today, brand new)
Imgdata tool works flawlessly
The Imgdata Tool mentioned earlier works flawlessly to customize your boot screens: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...-change-bootlogo-images-imgdata-tool-t3240052
You need to have a little knowledge of graphics but with Photoshop or Gimp it's just a matter of choosing your image and resizing (or making a text based image, or just a black image that will be a blank screen). Watch the file size as instructed. If you haven't done any advanced image manipulation, it's a great learning opportunity.
