got this tip from contact at t-mobile. if your voicemail calls are not included in your minutes (usually not) you can work around it by dialing your own number instead of the voicemail number!
be cautious, and which your bills, I making no responsibility if turns out to not work for you.

They removed this loop hole ages ago, the best way to use minutes for voice mail is to use HulloMail.

HulloMail is superb - voicemails delivered as mp3 attachments to emails so you've got them accessible from anywhere, plus a nice visual voicemail app to listen to them from. Highly recommended.
According to the HulloMail website it is "currently not compatible with 2.0/2.1 (Eclair)".

That'll just be for their app, which you don't need to actually use the service.
Thanks
Thank you for the Tip of HulloMail.
All setup and tested, just got to setup my own voice mail later after work
Thanks Again it looks great
and both the apps seem to work fine on the desire as well
Re: get calls to voiceMail included in your minutes
oops sorry for my original post.
just set up hullomail, now i'm in trouble, doesn't work with wifi, no call waiting, no notifications, don't know my original voice mail number, so I can get rid. this means I gonna have to dial 150. I hate talking to t-mobile, its painful.
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
If you check the Hullomail FAQ's it tells you how to reset your voicemail to T-Mobile, works perfectly with both wifi, and 3G for me with notifications. You can even get SMS notifications!
based on that I rebooted my phone and now works with WiFi. I'm going to give it a bit more of a chance now!

I just installed phone fusion's version of visual voice mail, seems to be way better than Hullomail. The hullomail app is slow, doesn't auto update, and won't play back through your ear piece.
I agree that the fusion app OS much better than Hullomail but I have a problem with the setup on mine. Email and app notifications are working fine but I don't get an SMS notification when I get a new voicemail which means if I'm not in a data area I don't know I've had a message left. Anyone know how to fix this?
HulloMail here
Sorry to hear you have been experiencing problems, which shouldn't occur - in this instance please email [email protected] and we'll be happy to help.
The HulloMail app auto-updates and can be played through the speaker or the ear-peice, it's your choice.

Hey,
For those of you on T-Mobile check out hullomail
http://www.hullomail.com/uk/index.html
It's avaliable on the market but you need to sign up online first. It's a visual voicemail service and it's excellent.
It's free for T-Mobile customers, they used to charge extra to forward your calls to another Voicemail provider but then they got rid of this after a petition back in the G1 days.
You can use it on other networks too but you will get charged for the diverting.
+1
I've been using this since I got my Desire in March, and its a MUST for T-Mobile users! Makes all your voicemail free! I have it so instead of the app, I just configure it through the website to forward all messages and notifications to my gmail account, which allows you to very quickly preview the messages anyone leaves
Does it actually work okay? The app I mean, as it says not compatible with 2.1?
This is well cool! No more 'calls outside allowance' on my bill for ringing to check my messages! Thanks! Set up was easy, checked it works, get email with mp3 of message sent to my gmail account and also can call using my normal minutes.
App works fine on 2.1, dunno why they say it doesn't.
Yep it's a fantastic app, highly recommended.

on your rec I've given it a go. I think you've just really helped me out as I'm off to Oz for a few weeks from Saturday and being able to forward all my messages to gmail is perfect
I cannot make calls but I can make calls with my EVO, but I can receive them. What is going on??????????? It worked earlier today and all of the sudden it just stopped!
I am also going through the same thing. I was able to make calls earlier today but now I can't. I do receive calls. Anyone else also experiencing this. Im using the Synergy rc1 supersonic rom. What rom are you using?
Are you getting any sort of error code when you try to call?
No just no dial tone. it hangs up after 20 seconds followed by beeps.
Seems like there are maj network errors going on. I had a ton of network busy errors, trying to make calls this week, and my buddy, with Verizon has had the same problem.
I would say this is probably a service issue. I am not rooted and the same thing is happening to me. I can receive calls, but not place calls. Just started happening this evening about 6:00ish. At least that's when I noticed it.

I think you are right. The google voice - sprint integration is the problem. I disable it and now it work perfectly. Thanks!
Yeah I had the same issue today, I called sprint and they killed the Google voice on there end and problem solved.
I don't have G voice, but still had the call problems
Swyped From The Hippest Phone Using XDA Premium
I am having the exact same issue, and it began sometime this last evening, about 7-9 hours ago. I have had Google Voice, but after upgrading from Hero to Evo on Wednesday, Google Voice can't locate my Sprint number to integrate it on the Evo, and so I cannot disable it, either, which prevents me from working the "easy" fix by removing it.
I did have a rooted Hero when I got GV, but I've yet to root the Evo, hoping Gingerbread keeps it running okay on stock. But this issue is persisting, and it doesn't matter to me if it's GV related or not, I don't want to have to send the device back.
I did call tech support, and did soft/hard resets and they refreshed the device and tier 2 tech resent services and it seemed fixed for 5 seconds, then went right back to the "20-sec dead air before fast busy signal" issue. I even work for Sprint and am having this issue! I've never seen anything like it, and I've been in Sales Support for a good while. I'd ideally like to use GV, but if it's gonna be like this, no thanks.
Other than disabling GV (as I cannot at the moment), any other suggestions?
P.S. - Hi, new to the forums, thanks very much for any help!!

One major problem I'm having on all ICS builds is the voicemail issue.. Visual voicemail always crashes and i have to dial out to retrieve my voicemails. Ive tried the clear data and force stop method but once you receive a new v mail the problem repeats itself. Has anyone found a solution? I refuse to use google voice..

Sprint VVM is borked in the ICS builds. I believe its a bug with the notifications. Uninstall it and use Youmail until its fixed. Youmail is a nice standalone alternative and easy to activate and deactivate.

Ok thanks Ill give youmail a try.. And i google voice is just to much for me.. It records your text messages and everything uploads all your info online.. It comes in handy but that's too much control. I don't need google knowing everything about me lol.

Can you use Youmail as a replacement for regular sprint voice mail?
I have elderly parents that if they can't reach me on my cell will leave me a vm instead of texting.
On CM9, if you push visual voicemail to system>app and set permissions, it'll stop it from crashing. The new problem is that it keeps retrying to "get your information" every time you open the app then.

Why do you refuse to use Google voice? I set it up without integrating it with my sprint number and telling it not to be used for any calls. Then, I see it as the ultimate vvm because I can get messages on my tablet, desktop chrome browser, etc. If you don't let it have the additional functionality, it behaves pretty much the same as the stock vvm... Unless I'm way off base?

Hey Guys,
I've been patiently waiting for Google voice to be release in Canada for some time. It still hasn't happened and probably won't for awhile. After some extensive searching I've been able to find a guide that can walk you through the setup, and I can tell you in works flawlessly. I would imagine you could use this guide for other countries as well.
The features are great, and no other service comes close here in Canada. With that said, enjoy. If you have any problems, feel free to ask.
LINK
Google voice is available in Canada. I use it everyday for free. You have to link a number to your Google account online, which is available for free in Canada. Then use grooveip to make and receive calls from you GV account from your phone. Easy and free solution.

I use it more for the visual voice mail. Care to share with us a step-by-step guide?
Okay well the GV service is available in Canada you just can't use their apk. So when you go into your Google account, click voice and it will say try voice and give you a number. Assuming you already have a GV number, just download grooveip and sign into your Google account. Grooveip has an awesome integration of GV right into the phone apk too. So if you dial a number in the phone it will ask if you want to make it with GV or your mobile network. Plus the quality is top notch.

I think your referring to Google talk, which is different the Google voice. I have a Google voice number (using the link in the op). I can use the Google voice App on my phone, and I get Visual voicemail.
No I am talking about GV. I have their app on my phone but it always says cannot verify my number when setting it up. I have GV on my computer to and can make calls from my Gmail inbox. Just a few days ago it prompted me saying another year for Google voice in Canada for free. It just seems like your paying a lot and its quite complicated for just visual voicemail.

The reason you can't verify your number is because you don't have a US Google voice number. It is only available in the USA. Sure, I was able to make calls from Gmail and the Google voice app on my computer but that was through Google chat. Now I have a US Google voice number (an actual phone number) people can call me on, as well as Visual Voice mail. It costs $.03/Voice mail. Even if I got 100 (which would never happen) voice mails a month that would only cost me $3. I don't feel like that is a lot. To each there own I suppose. If you are happy with Groove IP, that awesome. Just wanted to share this with other Canadians that would like a Google voice number and all the benefits of having Google Voice fully functional on their G Nexus.
Yeah of coarse to each their own. I have an actual US number as well. That I make calls with, and people call me with too. I was just trying to point out that Google voice is available in Canada and that you can use it free through grooveip. Thanks for posting your method tho. Options are always great.

How long ago did you try this? When i tried several months ago it did not work, there were no 403 numbers left and if i spoofed my IP to look like i was in the US i couldnt verify because my 403 number was from a different country as the GV number.

I tried it over a year ago, if not two. I'm pretty sure you can still verify with 403 numbers. I still have my GV number, and it forwards to my 403 number.
What do you mean there were no 403 numbers left??
403 no longer working
I have a GV 403 number (not Calgary - Canmore I think) and I cannot add my 403 cellphone number (forwarding country different) - I think they have closed this loophole - anyone who has any other information as to how to get this to work would be appreciated but I assumed they had plugged this.

he's not necessarily "full of it"...he just isn't describing the same service. or he's purposefully lying/trolling...if it's the latter, then screw him
but to clarify, he's using gmail chat...a service that has been available for quite some time. you could log in to your gmail account from a computer and call any phone number in US or Canada for free. It was done through VoIP and the gmail account...similar to skype, but without a number and free
google voice allows you to "merge" your cell number and landline so that someone calling one number can make multiple lines ring. Beyond that, you have a google voice number that you can retrieve visual voice mails for free and/or forward them to your email/text...
this is the service us Canadians want..stupid frigging crtc
the first option is indeed done through groove ip..it works well, it's a nice service (i have it too..on my tablet on top of that so i can make calls) but it's just not the same thing
there is a good tutorial if you google it that was done a few months ago but it requires you to purchase a US phone number..like through skype, which costs money and defeats the whole purpose of google voice...
Ok This has confused me a lot.
Here's my question to try to understand what works and what doesnt.
I use Google Voice(or whatever thats called coz you guys just confused me, The dialpad that's on gmail browser to makeinternational calls to Europe).
But everytime i want to call, i need to use my browser on my pc since I am in Canada, the app does not work.
how can i use THAT service on my phone.
Any step by step anyone can provide?
Thank you
B

I'm curious if it will work with Google Voice Lite without the Google Voice App. Having to use the app does get irritating when it stops running in background and causes delayed notification if you don't have Text or Email notification active. Also it does seem the app doesn't get updated much.
I have missed important messages in the past and now I check the Google Voice app at least once a day to make sure it had not stopped.

I haven't used the GV app on my phone in months (or over a year now) - had to check to see if it was still there To be honest, I don't think it is needed after the initial set up.
I get my notifications via an Email from GV to my mailbox, with the transcriptions and link to message - I also get a text message sent to my GV#, which results in a SMS on hangouts app.

Thanks for the reply but like I said before if you have Text and EMail notification turn off you just get a voicemail notification from native app and could use native app to check. But if the Google Voice App stops you don't get the Notification because messages do not sync with the native app.
Text and Email notification (icon) if you have a lot notification do not standout as much as the voicemail notification (icon). Would be much easier if Google would include Google Voice Lite in the native app without having the separate app for syncing.
Transcription has never worked well for me because everyone beside Robo spam that leave me a message have Spanish accents. (Funny to read and trying to guess what they really said) Google Voice Lite app has the transcription but would be better in native app.

Understood. I don't use the native app for voicemail notification, so I never ran into this issue. I just rely on the hangouts notification. Thanks for the clarification
