As my first HTC phone with flash and one of the few HTC phones which actually does have flash I wasn't expecting much, especially as it's a LED? light and not Xenon Flash or anything like that.
The flash actually seems to perform 100x better than my Sony Ericsson which boasts Xenon Flash.
I attached a picture that I took in the middle of the night when I was bored. This was in complete darkness. Lights off, curtains drawn, no external sources of light.
As you can see... you can't really tell
Yeah its LED.
I'm really impressed with it too, and its a major plus coming three past HTC devices that all didn't have one lol

I think it's a K850i, it's always been my secondary phone (need to have a phone with a o2 PAYG sim in it). I used the camera when I had my G1 because (on paper) it was better.
Cybershot 5.0 megapixel camera with Xenon Flash.
The C905 cam is pretty good but not the best 8MP cam fone as the lense is small.
That's expressive to me.
Too bad it overexposes shots that aren't taken in complete darkness, which for most people is far more likely to represent a larger share of their picture taking eh?
But yes, that is quite impressive for a complete darkness shot.

I have now owned the xda mini s (wizard) for about 3 weeks and i am very happy with it. I have made some personal changes to the device to customise it to my liking. But there is still one thing that really annoys me! The camera! To be honest i think its rubish! the quality is so poor. Before this phone I owned a samsung D500 and the camera on that was so much better. Iv tried changing settings and stuff but it does'nt seem to make much difference. Inside shots are the worst, which is understandable anyway because normaly the light is poor inside. But still i would of have thought it would of had been better than what it is.
Just wondering what other peoples thoughts on this? also is there anyway of improving this ie software update.
Camera on MDA XDA all units with opaque flash
These cameras are the worst I have ever seen on any phone. The flash on the camera can be used as a flash light digging for trash in the middle of the night but thats about it.
The quality of the pcitures are terrible. They have to improve these cmos cameras or put a translucent brighter flash with better iso features
Some people wrote here that the camera quality became better after upgrading ROM upto 2.16.
I don't see any improvements at all!
Im glade some people agree with me on this one!
I agree completely.
But it is also amasing that no commercial camerasoftware is made.
It should not be so hard to create better pictures than the **** we have now.
Very true!! the quality of the photos you get out of the XDA mini-s is very very poor for today digital world of photos.
Talking about the software, I don't think its so much the software, its the hardware itself embeded in the phone.
If you look at the back of the phone next to the camara lens and the floodlights, its says 1.3 mega pixel. I don't think that is true.
I compared grandads photos taken with his Agfa-45 analogue camara during the secound world war to one of XDA mini-s out-door photo, and I ccould not fine no diffrence, with the exception of the colour.
Above all the phone itself is pretty cool..
It might be 1.3 Mega pixel, but i did hear from a bloke that was into cameras and he said its not just how many pixels the qulity depends on, its mostly the lense. But yer its a cool phone
I have a galaxy s at the moment.
Cex have a defy that would mean a trade and ₤50 in my pocket.
Do you guys rate the defy?
Pros and cons please
I love the industrial look of the defy and after using my xoom I like the built quality.
Things I am worried about are screen quality and updates.
Any advice will be great.

Don't need to worry about updates as the devs in this forum have been looking after that!
No issues at all with this phone. It rocks!

Its a great device. Only issue you personally may have would be the screen. I came from an oled Blade so at first I disliked the screen. However it is better in sunlight than oled and is not prone to burn in like oled.
I have had a HTC Desire and actually prefer the Defy. Custom 2.2.2 rom and overclocked to 1200mhz. Very happy.
Sent from my Defy on CM7.
how is defy:s screen compered to SLCD?
SLCD has better colors but Defy's display is more legible in the sun...

I got only one (minor) problem with mine: on/off button and volume button are too small and wiggely.
The rest is perfect.
The only con I see with my Defy is the cam. Despite of the 5MP AF camera, images are way below par. Check GSMArena and you'll see.
Anyways, I was never a cam guy, and I knew this before I bought the cell.

Install rom and updates are both very easy, so don't worry too much. And when you update, the app data will not be deleted at all.
When you are familiar with flashing roms, It just takes a little time(about 10~20 minutes)
Get a Defy. It's the most phone for the least space.
Defy is pretty good if you don't think you need the absolutely best camera (Motorola usually have subpar lens, this is no exception), and no keyboard (Swype works just fine).
You get that superior 854X480 display (why do some manufactures still push out those stupid non-16:9 800X480?), a VERY resistant build and a solid and pretty overclockable hardware. Put that beauty at 1GHz and it feels better than Milestone 2.
since i love to take images using X. Arc .... i noticed that images taken with flash tend to be "yellowish" means the colors aren't represented well !!
one thing else... do u feel that the camera algortihm tends to sharpen the photos in the post processing step, this can be seen in photos taken in a sunny day with zomm in ?
post ur impressions and ur thoughts
one thing I noticed is that when using it with flash the pictures become over-exposed especially in the Auto Mode.
I think the image quality is pretty poor. The Mrs had an LG Renoir and the images look better to me.
The Arc is better than my old HTC HD Blackstone, but a $65 camera (Samsung) has better quality.
Yellowish skin, over saturated blues and reds... just poor.
I have only one thing to say, EXMOR R sucks! it is a marketing trick and nothing more!

I noticed that sometimes, not allways, but its not a sign of a bad camera in the Arc!
Many cameras, also most expensive, have this "yellow-problem" by indoor photos, what is caused by artifical light sources like neon lamps etc and the automatic settings for white balance, as I found out via google.

I tested it, my Arc with Exmor R vs other phone cameras and there is a much better result in quality overall with it.
No marketing trick at all, but perhaps a wrong imagination of some people how it works!

I have HTC Hero now and i have in plan to buy desire just because have camera flash, i am interested what quality of pictures taken with camera flash in the night, anyone can attach some pictures tnx
Pictures suck when light conditions are not ideal. If quality of images is of any concern, buy a photo camera.
Upgrade to a better phone. Desire is obsolete. Or better yet buy a digital camera if you intend to do night shots. I don't think smartphones are up to the task of taking decent night shots anyway.
tnx guys for fast replay but i saw night pictures from http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i900_omnia-2422.php its perfect.Does desire can do similar??
I wouldn't say that a 2008 era phone can do anything close to a perfect picture.
A simple rule of a thumb, there has to be a massive optics, lenses, in order a for picture to be good. You can't stuff that in a phone.
Yea, the desire's camera is decent at best in full light situations. It's quite terrible at night and in other low light situations. Even the latest phones aren't the greatest for low light pictures.
As is recommended above, if picture quality is a concern, buy an actual digital camera.
Cannot change the shutter speed (as no real shutter) or aperture so doesn't make for a good night camera.

I agree with all.Dont go for it.
Even Detail in brighter light can sometimes be a little washed out on the HTC Desire.Video quality is below average at the optimum settings. The amount of resolved detail is not enough, the colors are a bit washed-out, the there are some low contrast issues visible too. Also in light colored objects with a detail, HTC Desire produces a soft pinkish spot at the centre of the frame.
ok tnx for answers but what is best choice for 200$ like desire,i wish to have good camera and flash?

You can't have it.
You can have either a good camera, or a good phone
U svakom slučaju ako možeš nać Desire za 200$ a da je uščuvan, kupuj.
(in any case if you can have a preserved Desire for 200$, I think you should buy it)
AT&T's Pantech Discover combines a 4.8-inch 720p HD display with a 12.6-megapixel camera on a 4G LTE, Android handset.

So you like the phone? Does it have a lot of bloatware? I am thinking of purchasing one of these for myself, the 12MP camera looks promising. I never owned a Pantech before. Only Samsung, Motorola and recently HTC.

Try turning off flash?
I find that the flash on my Galaxy Note overwhelms on most close-ups.

Pantech Discover
I've had the Pantech Discover for about a week now and I have to say, I love this phone! Its beyond fast! Ive included a screenshot of my results from Quandrant Standard and as you can see, nothin touches this phone. The only draw back is there aren't enough developers that own this phone yet so mods will take a while before we will see anything like custom ROMS. I was able to root it, but there arent any versions of CWM Recovery that work yet either, but I dont think it will take long. If anyone is considering getting this device, I would HIGHLY recommend it.

I received this phone as an insurance replacement for my squashed LG "Thrill", and I am so glad I did!
I had been avoiding the Pantech brand because I had never heard of them, assuming the brand to be inferior, but so far I have been wrong on all counts.
The big screen is a relief to my 50+ eyes, and the touch surface is oddly "slick" (oleo-phobic?), refusing to accept fingerprints as easily as any of the others I have used. The phone has a very solid metal frame, and a nice rubberized back cover which snaps firmly in place, yet peels away easily enough to allow access to the SIM, SD card, and battery. Although the build quality is above average, I would be careful with the screen surface which is scratch-resistant and tough-enough plastic (hopefully LEXAN), but certainly not "Gorilla Glass". A screen protector would be welcome insurance against scratches.
IMHO, the screen resolution is spectacular, the audio quality from the built-in speakers is far above average, and the performance is as smooth and quick as I have ever experienced with any phone, including my iPhone 5.
The camera is decent, and I am still experimenting with it, but so far it is no where near as good as the iPhone's since it seems to require a lot of manual "tweaking" to get just the right shot, particularly indoors.
Outdoor shots are nicely saturated, providing very good dynamic range, which is even better when shots are taken in "HDR" mode in bright sunlight, comparing well with those taken with the iPhone.
It performs fairly well in low-light conditions, producing noticeable graininess as the scene becomes darker, but the powerful flash LED will easily wash-out subjects closer than ten feet away, and you can forget about macro shots in very low light, which is no problem for the iPhone camera. Also while shooting indoors, its automatic white-balance doesn't compensate well at times, requiring manual setting for indoor lighting to get the best color. I have not tested the white-balance while shooting outside yet.
The video camera is something else altogether. At full "1080" resolution, it captures surprisingly good video with no stutter or dropped frames, and in low light the incredibly bright flash LED produces amazingly well-lit images. There is a noticeable amount of "flagging" while capturing fast-moving objects in lower light, but this becomes less noticeable in good light, and almost disappears outdoors.
I have not yet tested the GPS except for basic location, but so far the WiFi, and Bluetooth performance have surpassed my expectations. Best of all, the battery life has been as good, if not better, than the iPhone, even with the GPS/WiFi/Bluetooth radios enabled.
In general, the build quality is exceptional as well, but I reserve judgement on the longevity of the plastic screen surface.
All of my impressions so far have been "seat of the pants", so to speak, and are strictly based on my impression of this device as compared with the few others I have had, and despite the lackluster camera, all in all, this device is quickly becoming my favorite!
I also am loving this phone (coming from a Sensation 4G). Despite the lack of support, I have been able to root and unlock. Now the wait for CWM and the eventual Roms...
