Help me with text input prediction - Desire General

Hi,
I hope you can help with this if you know the answers.
1. From the HTC Desire manual page 65
If you see the word you want highlighted in green or orange, you can simply tap the space bar to insert the word into your text.
Click to collapse
Can you disable this? So, when pressing the space bar, it wont take the highlighted word. I saw in the past a setting for this, but I cannot find it back.
2. Is that true that text prediction is not available on certain apps?
For example: Market, when I am searching for something, the text prediction does not popup.
Can we enable this? I guess ... not.

sorry i cant help you i guess, i also wish i knew how to enable the prediction everywhere and i think it will be available once it will be rooted?

With regards to text prediction not working in certain places, I think in a place the Android Market it's understandable because plenty of the apps aren't proper words or names so text prediction would be pointless.
A predictive search feature like you get in Google trying to guess what you are going to search based on popularity, but ignoring whether it's a proper word or not... Now that would be preferable in the Market.

noob question - i did a search before making thread

i changed my font size when i was texting someone and i don't know how i did it. it is now too small, and i want it a lil bigger. does anyone know how i can change the size in my text msgs?
also, i just got this phone. is htc going to send all pro2 users the update when oct comes around with the new system? or we **** out of luck?

1. Use the zoombar to change font size.
2. Yes, HTC will release WinMo 6.5 for TP2 users.

I assume you are talking about the default WinMo Messaging app? The zoombar works as a font-size changer in that app.
Why are you looking in menus for zoombar? The zoombar is the part of your device between the screen and the 4 hardware buttons.
Wow didn't know that.
Just to confirm it does work as a font size changer, but only when focus is on the text editing area at the bottom.
If focus is still in the previous threaded messages then the zoom bar works as a scroll bar.

i wasn't. you told me to look for zoombar. and i figure zooming had to be in the menu bar since thats how it is in alot of applications i use.
on a diff not, i tried to send a text msg like normal and hit the the 4 hardware buttons and it still does not change my font size. the reading pane window where old text msgs are is the area where i want to change the size.

Haha, dude, I think you're losing me.
What's your "normal" way to send a text message? There are several ways: (1) via compose new, (2) via TF3D, (3) via the threaded view of the WinMo Messaging app.
Why are you hitting the 4 hardware buttons to change font size? (Call send, Call end, Windows key, and Back key are not going to help)
What's this "reading pane window" you are referring to?
What I'm trying to say is a picture is worth a thousand words. Going forward, if you want help with troubleshooting, post a screenshot.
But for your case, try this. Go to "Settings" tab in TF3D, tap "All Settings", go to "System" tab, tap "Screen", go to "Text Size" tab, and adjust the setting here.

When a field is "in focus", that just means that it's active or that's where the cursor is. In fairness to HTC, I thought there manual was quite comprehensive. They've put just enough info to get someone who's not familiar with WinMo to be able to use the device.

Well, I don't think they're going to SEND it to you. I'm sure it will be available on you're carrier's site, presuming the carrier releases there version in October.

[Q] How do you format a SMS?

Guys
Quite daft question really, but I do not see a way for me to enter a carriage return (enter character) in order to format a SMS message? All the message text goes on the same line.
Have we all stopped using SMS to send messages?? Anyone?

Kik FTW.
But yeah, it seems as though there's no option to substitute the smiley key for the return key on the default keyboard... one hideous workaround would be to compose in Gmail, then copy and paste into Messaging.
You could install another keyboard...but that's sort of ridiculous.
If you push the space bar enough times and then type something it will start on the next line
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Good that you confirmed that.. I was going mad trying to search for a way to format a simple message. The OS is two steps forward and one step backwards in some areas really...
Yep, another keyboard stands as a possible solution, but I wonder why Google missed such an obvious option..
Thanks!

It also wastes that many of your 140 characters, and will not necessarily wrap to the same location on the receiving device. Not a realistic solution in this case. It's similar to people centering text in documents by adding spaces to the front of the text instead of just hitting "Align Center".

Yeah, it is unusual. It would be an incredibly simple fix if I had the messaging app source code, though. I imagine the text field is just set to a certain type of input, much like the 10-digit keyboard that comes up in certain contextual fields. Is the messaging app part of AOSP? I think it is. I should play around with that... *makes a mental note*
I would have imagined that the carriage return would appear as an option directly or in one of the contextual options. Looking at some of the characters included, I find it hillarious that they have included characters like copyright, pi, carat, etc....Who uses these in SMS's? scientists?
I know its old, but...
... 've been wondering how to put LF in SMS messages.
See the attached LatinIME, it has two smilies changed and an Enter button on the dot extra characters button.

Jellybean Calendar colour and keyboard - horrible

I've just updated to 4.1.2, and there's no option I can find to change the colour of the calendar. I hate the light background, I'm used to black background with white text, easier to read. Is there anything out there I can use?
edit: sorry, keyboard isn't horrible, I've found the swype keyboard which is what I'm used to But there doesn't seem to be the single word delete function anymore with the click after deleting any words in a sentence? It just deletes the letters in succession so you can't delete complete words with one click.
edit2: well I can do it in 2 steps. swype key highlights word then backspace key deletes it.
Doing a quick google search gave me this:

I suggest doing a google search yourself as there are several different versions of dark gapps available around the internet.
As for your keyboard, perhaps try out TouchPal Keyboard:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cootek.smartinputv5&hl=en
It's a free app, and it has a slide left on the backspace key to delete a word feature.
Cheers.

Will check them out, thanks.
By the way, I just found a post of the exact same problem I'm trying to solve with word deleting.
http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...o-delete-the-entire-word-when-the-delete-butt
The solution given of swiping right to left over the home rows of the keyboard doesn't work. Has anyone else done this with any success? It really seems odd to me that they would have removed the ability to do this.
As far as I know, Swype didn't have a swipe to delete feature...perhaps what the user is talking about is TouchPal? I've never seen another keyboard have this feature, I could be wrong though. Have you tried it out?
I haven't tried touch pal yet but definitely will do.
Tbh, I'm not sure the word deletion function was specific to swype enabled keyboards, it probably did it on non swype enabled too. Although I used swype all the time, I used to just hold the delete button down for a bit longer and it would delete entire words one after the other with a click after each word. So I wasn't swyping to delete but just pressing the delete button, yet sadly that feature seems to have gone now apart from the first and last words. Imo there's a few features in jellybean that are a step backwards from previous android versions.

Go into Keyboard Settings -> additional parameters.
you should find something like bilingual suggestions
And uncheck all languages.
If u have no "additional parameters" menu, add an other language to your keyboard.
sorry if the title is not accurate I do not have my phone in front
Regards
Yes thanks, it is faster, but in a cost ;(

[Q] remove selected text from calender title?

Hello.
Is it possible to remove selected text from the calendar title.
Example, say the word "SPRING" appears on many of my titles but I want that word removed if so, is that possible?
And what if I want to remove one word and then also switch another one?
Example, change. .. SPRING: GIANTS AT PADRES
into... GIANTS @ PADRES
So "Spring:" is removed and "AT" is switched to "@"
I want to do even more than this, but I'm hoping I'd some one could show me how to do this, If it's even possible, then I could expand it from there.
Thanks.

With the native options in Zooper this is not possible. You'll have to process your calendar events through Tasker for this kind of string reformatting.
