For my birthday, my wife let me get a Pro2 But I'm having problems installing the Microsoft Reader on it with my Windows 7 laptop. I've not been able to find a cab for it; can you ONLY install this from a desktop, or is there a cab file? I know that Reader is not a fav of WM users, but I have a ton of books in .lit format. Help !
I'm also an avid Microsoft Reader user, for the same reason as you. I installed MS Reader from the exe file on the reader website. I also have a Windows 7 laptop and had no issues at all. What kind of problem are you having?

Thanks for answering! The TP2 just gives me an error message that file install was not being successful. The program does install on my wife's Vista machine (so I guess the problem is solved) but I would like to figure out why it won't install on the Win 7 machine. Like many MS error messages, there isn't enough info provide by the error-reporting mechanism to really triage the problem. This has occurred from day 1 of Win 7, and seems to be the ONLY program that it errors out on.

Dear All
Please help: I have an O2 XDA IIs which MS Activesync 4.1 does not detect, despite all my efforts during the last few days (I also have an old iPAQ 1940 which Activesync detects fine).
The XDA is from work, so could it be that it is somehow locked, and if so, how can I unlock it?
Also, as an alternative, can I sync the XDA with my PC via Bluetooth through the iPAQ's?
Any ideas will be gratefully received!
Many thanks in advance,
L
Hi there,
I've Looked through hundreds of forums and although I have seem similiar I haven't found a resolution to my exact problem.
Due to the fact that I've been trying to resolve this issue on and off all day it's probably something really simple...
HISTORY
PDA
Was running WM2003SE on a Xda IIS.
PC
ActiveSync 3.8 on Laptop with Windows 2000 SP4 and all updates. Laptop on a home LAN with router. No firewall software and have since removed all Spyware removal software, (after doing one last scan).
My Task \ Issue \ Problem
I wanted to to the upgrade to WM2005 and followed all the usual procedures. The one mistake I may have made was to install the very very latest 4.1 Activesync without removing 3.8. However at this stage my XDA was still on 2003SE and synced perfectly with 4.1 Activesync.
I performed the upgrade to WM2005 including patches and as far as the XDA is concerned everything appears to be working.
Activesync however doesn't work. Via the USB cradle Windows 2000 detected a device and under device properties it's was listed as Generic RNDIS, it's now listed as a windows mobile based-device. I don't have an entry in my network connections, although I think this only happens with Windows XP. I've tried uninstalling Activesync, removing the rapi.dll file, reinstalling etc, I even did the former and removed entries within the registry and running a registry fixer but to no avail.
I then decided the Bluetooth route but cannot sync via this method either. I can actually succesfully connect from PC to XDA and vice versa but cannot use these connections for Activesync.
I have another Hard Drive for this Laptop which I use for testing. I can simply shut down, swap drives and boot again to another build. The other build is also Windows 2000 with SP4 and pretty much nothing else. I've installed Activesync 4.1 onto this machine, plugged in the cradle and everything works fine.
So..... I know the XDA is fine, The cradle's okay and Activesync 4.1 actually works with my XDA OS. The problem is it doesn't work on one particular build. I believe this is actually a Activesync issue but due to some form of conflict with my build. It's currently out of the question for me to rebuild so my mission is to find out what's conflicting.
Just to summarise though..... Activesync 4.1 was working fine, I upgraded XDA to WM2003 to WM2005 and then it stopped. The other harddisk proves that Activesync does actually work with my XDA.
Pheeeew...... I hope somebody doesn't suggest lack of information....
So the reason for the post?? Well if anybody else is having frustrations, (which I'm sure I'm not the only one judging my my searching), your not alone.
I think a lot of people's problems have actually been resolved by the latest version of Activesync, (4.1), and other people have resolved by sorting out the main culprit of firewalls.
For me though I'll keep searching..... if any of you can think of any other ideas I can use for diagnosing the problem I'll appreciate it.
Thanks in advance..... sorry for the waffle.....
RESOLVED
Okay.... During further searching I noticed people mentioning VPN clients interfering.
I did have SecureRemote VPN installed which I use for work purposes.
I uninstalled SecureRemote but had to uninstall & re-install Activesync again. This time it's working.....
I will, (but not tonight), re-install the VPN client and see what happens. If Activesync countinues to work then, apart from being happy, it's worth making a note of.
If it doesn't work then I'll start to investigate why...... I know the new active sync does some form of IP connection but I cannot accept that it won't work with VPN's installed.
use windows XP (SP2) ...
first install the activesyn and then restart your computer.
then attach your pocket pc with usb cable.
and try to connect.
its works for me...
Problem is quite simple, vista rarely (lets say once in 10 days) "see" the connected BA, since I dont need much of syncing I didnt investigate that too much but if someone solved the problem I would appreciate eventual help.
(its WM6)
ty & BR to community !
suprisingly BA synced with the vista like the charm when I used BT...
Had so much problems with BT sync before with XP and WM 2003 and 5 that I didnt even think about trying that with vista
Anyway BT sync works GREAT for me (WM6 and Vista) and that is the nice solution.
Do you use the Windows Vista cync centre, or do you still have to use activesync?
In my experience both the cync centre and Windows Vista have no problem seeing my blue angel, but when I change any of my contact/task/calendar information, even though it looks like the two are syncing, no changes are made to either device as necessary.
hi, its was an old issue but as far as i could remember, i used to install nod 32 internet security suite which had firewall inside (wasnt mentioned anywhere in the installation) which silently blocked my BA sync... found it by pure coincidence, after the uninstall everthing synced perfectly...
Has anyone successfully connected their WM6.1 HTC S620 to Ubuntu?
Simple file transfer would be a good starting point.
ill try tonight...
I gave it a shot but ummm let me see what is going on.

For simple file transfer could you use WM5torage and it gets recognized as a flash???
WM5torage is your best bet for file transfer. Multisync with the SynCE plugin are supposed to work for contacts and calendar, but the gods would have to smile on you, the starts be aligned, and you'd have to hold your mouth just right to get it working.
Almost forgot....obex in ubuntu (but not kubuntu) works with the Dash over bluetooth. In kubuntu, I think it's a one-way trip, but I can't remember which (the PC or the phone) that can't receive.
Not to hijack this thread but has anyone had any luck getting the dash to work with the internet sharing with Ubuntu via usb. I was never able to get this to work unless I am having one of my dense moments. My only source of internet at home right now is the dash. (Perhaps there is a driver I can download through another computer with an internet connection and save to a flash drive). I've been meaning to ask this question a couple of weeks ago but have since been busy and forgot. I figured I would ask here first before hitting up the Ubuntu forums.
I don't remember the results I got while playing with it, but as soon as you connect the Dash to Ubuntu via usb, it detects it as another network device. As far as the actual "tunnel" you need to set up to get tcp/ip over the link was always outside my realm of interest, so I never really messed with it.
to transfer file, i use bluetooth and ftp, no wm5storage
bluetooth is the best for ease use! works perfect in ubuntu 8.04. just right click file and send by bluetooth to phone.
ftp its good for complex transfer (multiple files, folders, etc). I use resco explorer on windows mobile and proftpd+gui on ubuntu
WM5torage unmount memory card from windows mobile to mont on usb. Because i use memory card to store emails/webcache, i got some freak errors using wm5storage. (like moving memory card to "\memory card 2" folder)
i do not sync anything (email, contacts, notes or whatever).. but i do backups (from time to time) using ppcpimbackup (not a smartphone app but works [bugy gui] )
I need test ogg sync or something to sync with my google account. did you try something like?
Thanks!
Thanks everyone. WM5storage works a treat over a USB connection.
Tried connecting over bluetooth but I got an OBEX error. Will take a longer look at it when I get chance.
hi @all,
i use WM5Storage for filetransfer with UBUNTU.
Funambol for sync my KAISER over HSDPA works without problems. You only have to install the funambol-programm on your PPC and config the account on myFunambol.
http://my.funambol.com
http://www.funambol.com/
The Evolution-mailclient in UBUNTU can be synced with myFunambol too. you need to install this app:
https://launchpad.net/genesis-sync
If you flash your PPC 2x a week like me, funambol is the best, because it configures by installing automaticaly the mailaccount on the device. only need to put in username and password
Thanks Acidd.
The pointer to funambol is a useful workaround for the 6.1 SMTP problem.
Where can i get a nice Wm5torage version?
The stuff i have does not want to work on my WM6 Samsung i600, i get some error?
if you dont get a connection with wm5storage, you need to check the two points in the menu-->troubleshooting --> "disable concurrency" and "disable RNDIS on activate".
i dont know where i downloaded my version of wm5storage but its V1.8.

Ok, first off, i am hoping someone somewhere has experience of using the sideshow for windows mobile on their touch pro II.
I am experiencing a lot of problems, mostly i cant get it working at all. The problems start when i pair the device over bluetooth!
When i pair vista installs all the drivers it needs but cant find the "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" drivers, and then when i explore the services vista finds for my touch pro 2 the sideshow box is there but un-checked, and then i check it and apply, and it has the same problem with not being able to find a peripheral device driver.
I then found the universal Bluetooth dotNet Sideshow drivers, and they installed successfully (i think). But now no device appears in the sideshow control panel in vista, even though in device manager is shows "HTC Touch Pro2 T7373" under the Windows Sideshow category.
Has anyone got this working? or has anyone encountered these problems? I would really like to see how sideshow is on my phone. Any help would be gratefully appreciated!
Ok, so i have solved it, even though over 45 of you lot looked and had no help, thanks for looking though. The solution was that the "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" that remains unfound needs the driver updating in the way outlined here:
http://www.computers.nepalesemap.com/index.php?topic=3.0
Then the sideshow application on the phone finds the vista machine. Then the wanted gadgets can be activated on the pc.
My hope of using this as an "inteligent" remote control and more is and was valid, apart from the limit of support and development for the mobile sideshow package. It works, but it crashes every time a large list is presented. I have no doubt this is because it is a preview release, but the date of the 0.01 version is dating back all the way too the 20th January 2009; and there seems to have been no updates to the mobile client since.
Does anyone in this vast comunity use sidebar and not have this crashing problem? and also is there anyone here with any news on the development of this product as i am still keen and interested!
So, we have to replace our desktop, and we picked up a new one running windows 7. Is it true that WM5 will not work with Windows 7's Mobile Device Center program?
If so, is there any backwards compatible program or tweek that we can do to still let WM5 sync with our outlook on Windows 7?
almost 70 views, and no help? Theres gotta be someone out there that can help! I am just trying to cut down on the surprises before we fully activate the new system, and explain to the wife why her iPaq wont sync, or have the correction when it does happen!

Sorry, I dont think there will be backwards compadability for WinMo 5..
I think its so old it might be time for an upgrade
One possible option i've used is running Windows XP in a VM (VMWare in my case) and syncing to Windows XP/Office that way.
Well, turns out whoever told me that was wrong. The system recognized and synced up our iPaq's just fine. So thanks for the help guys, but turns out Windows 7 Mobile Device Center recognizes WM5!
