Hi all,
I want to visit a site that is written in flash, but I haven't succeeded displaying it. I tried with the default opera browser of the latest ROM, with IE, and with opera 10 I installed from the opera site. I enabled the plugins in the options, but again nothing.
Any ideas?
Skyfire browser supports flash. I've never used it, but have an older copy. PM me if you can't find a current one.
Pls search....
Skyfire...
IE on WM6.5 (T-Mobile version) supports an older version of flash. I was able to get Last.FM and YouTube working (but not hulu, and YouTube native app is much better anyways).
you can get skyfire from http://get.skyfire.com
i dont like skyfire. flash actually will work with the ie from 6.5 (sorta), and close to all versions of opera cept that its buggy with 10. and dont expect great playback quality with any on a mobile device. to enable it in opera there i used to use this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544770) but it seems to work fine for me using this opera (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5902175&postcount=1669) on the stock 2.07 rom.
skyfire is your best bet. the latest release is wvga compatible too.
not bad

What ever version of opera comes in the stock Tilt 2 6.5 ROM doesn't support flash. IE has never supported flash by default. I had to install "Flash Player 7 Mobile" to get it to work. I still use Skyfire though. The new version has it's issues on the tilt 2 that I've found (distorted audio, browsing issues, etc), but hopefully it's just my device.

I didn't see anyone say that skyfire dropped windows mobile support, so its a wasted download, it was a few weeks ago... but its latest version was very awsome... makes me very sad to see it go. To my awareness there is no program that can stabally run web 2.0 type sites of any kind flash or other But other mobile OS's arn't much further

uZard supports flash. It's pretty slow compared to Skyfire, though.

I wondered if Mozilla would ever come out with a mobile browser! I gotta check it out.
to me really ... it looks dull .... no like cool graphics,,, no 2008 and beyond look... but it has no flash ... no disrespect.. to you or mozilla but i excepted better from them but who knows .... maybe its only a beta or something
it is beta...
but come on what would you expect from an aplication on a mobile phone... what about the graphs of opera or IE are they much better...
hmm how does this differ from the older versions? because ive 'used' them and it was awful.
first time i tried it, it wouldnt even start, second time in interface was so difficult to navigate...

I have too on my dash with 6.1 and am not able to browse or use it. it loads up but i cannot navigate through the browser to select anything. hence why i bothered to ask questions
minimo "works" on Windows Mobile 5 and later devices, both pro and standard. the seemingly un-navigable interface can be operated with buttons, but I can never recall what does what and it always just starts doing weird things, after a lot of struggling.
After reinstalling it about 7 times it finally worked by using the soft buttons to navigate through. However, not stable at all to browse at least on my device.
It takes forever to load and closes when underload. Opera Mini FTW.
kept crashing.
It has promise on a ppc. It looks too much like a touch application. Opera Mobile works much better as a full web browser for the Dash at the moment and Mini for quick viewing.
seems like its causing my phone to crash because its a memory hogger by far.
Never got darn thing to load
After installing Minimo would always hang up. Pity as I love Firefox,(but I love Opera too) On puter I use Opera for all research ect in English and Firefox for Portuguese. My vote is with Opera Mini
Aloha,

But i like the Opera Mini more... (faster, smarter, feeds support with remote sync etc) this version is with bigger Font Size so it's running ok on a 800x400 screen.
So the Opera browser that comes preinstalled on the HD isn't Opera Mini? It's not Opera Mobile, right? I thought the HD utilizes a full HTML browser...

the opera 9.5 that comes with the hd is opera mobile, a standalone executable program, which is a full html browser. opera mini is a java applet that runs within a java environment, and used to have limitations. maybe newer versions of opera mini have more functionality??

Cool, works well thanks.
Very fast at loading pages, with nice sliding transitions. The rendering's less accurate compared to 'big' Opera though.
Pros / Cons
I use both the browsers, in my view Opera Mini is far superior though, but with faults. Opera Mobile which comes on the HD is good when it works and you have a fast connection (WiFI or strong HSdPA). I believe Opera Mini uses pre rendered pages from Opera so is very fast, yes the transitions are nice. It has speed-links like Opera on your PC and can handle pretty much all pages I've ever tried to load. Opera mobile sometimes messes up pages with forms, for example, using tfl.gov.uk is so fast on opera mini, nearly impossible on opera mobile. File downloads are fine in Opera Mini as it can access the file directories on the HD, the download manager is maybe not as good as on Opera Mobile though, stop-resume etc..
Opera mini doesn't have tabs though.. one page only, a couple of times it can hang, you need to mess around with it so it doesn't ask each time if it is allowed to access the data connection, leave it running in the background and it can struggle to find connection again without restarting Opera Mini. Also you have to load it through JAVA (from a list of other Java programs you might have on your HD, GMAIL etc..) unless anyone knows how to give it it's own direct shortcut?? Also it's not integrated with TF3D like opera mobile.
I use 4.2 direct from Opera, fine but yes the menus are small, but still quite easy to press. Sounds like there is a WVGA version now. Perhaps in the next version (4.3?) this will be the ultimate browser.
I'll carry on with both for now

go to add remove programmes and remove the previous version of OPERA-MINI then install the cab attached on page one of this thread.
it should work nicely then.
re versions :the text size is now spot on. accept no immitations, this is the real internet in your pocket and no mistake. lovely and fast too, loads the times homepage in about 8 seconds compared to opere mobile's 30 seconds.
well handy. it has to be said.
Hi Guys,
I have a Touch Pro 2 (unlocked and unbranded in UK) which comes with the Opera browser as the default TouchFlo 3D offering.
I'm unsure which version of Opera Mobile this is but it doesn't have the capability of flash like some of the cabs I've seen floating around.
I've tried the 3.1 cab from this forum but this does nothing for Opera for me, Skyfire is an option but tbh looks horrid on the TP2 screen and even the flash 7 cab upgrade for the default IE doesn't seem to work.
Does anybody have any input on how i can get flash working on the default Opera Mobile browser?
(as a side note, I'm a new Windows Mobile user, any absolutely recommended software I should be installing onto my TP2 to get the most of it?)
I've been searching for the last few hours online and it does seem like nobody gives a damn about flash ont he Touch Pro 2, surely that can't be so?
Either its so easy eveybody just assumes we know the trick or it's impossible and common knowledge...
Hey i installed the BETA 9.7? last night and some flash works on that, just not others, apparently something to do with activex being disabled or something, im unsure.
I'd love to get flash working on opera, webpages look awesome on it. I'm not a fan at all of skyfire.
really? and the flash worked?
Please can you link me to the cab you used?
Sorry i didn't explain my post very well. BBC iPlayer worked but a few others didn't.
I just got the BETA from here:
http://www.opera.com/mobile/download/
wow you're right, i had tested before but didn't get good results.
Tries again and youtube worked etc. I think it's a little hit and miss atm.
I also find flash doesn't work if you have turbo mode on and could not get opera widget manager to even install.
Don't suppose you have any idea if it's possible to get the zoom slider to work in the beta?
Many thanks for replying to me.
Wondering if anyone has been able to install and successfully operate opera mini. This is one of my favorite browsers. When I installed the cab file it didnt load. I then went to the site and tried to download it and it would not open. If anyone has been able to do this or if you are able to find a solution I would be very grateful if you posted a working cab of the browser here in this thread. Thanks in advance!
Yes. it's my browser of choice, although the Jblend java manager sucks. hold on while i find the cab for you
*edit*
download the Opera Mini - large fonts (VGA) cab and put on your phone. You don't need the opera mini tweaks.
This will install Jbed java manager & install Opera Mini for you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398567
Thanks for the quick response. I went to the link and attempted downloading the cab. The cab file says its 2.90mb but for some reason my tp2 is only dling 1.37mb. So the cab is not working. Anyway you can post the cab file here so I can download it direct? I need another source cause that site isnt cooperating with my phone.
Try Opera Mobile Beta 9.7. It has Turbo. The thing is FAST!!!
I have Opera Mobile. I would like Opera Mini. I just cant seem to download the entire cab from that site
unfortunately the cab is too big to upload. download it from that thread on to your computer & then move it to your phone
wow that sucks. i am going to try downloading it with my Kaiser then. My computer is currently down and awaiting repair so I am screwed for the moment. I cant even flash a new rom :-(

that's why i went with Mini, since the scroll bar doesn't work. Plus i love the syncing bookmarks feature.
I just gave 9.7 beta a try and to be honest I didn' notice a speed boost over the Opera browser that already comes packaged with the tp2. Even with turbo on i noticed nothing. Also its a very glitchy beta version. I miss mini :-( I will probably try the 9.7 once its finished but I still believe mini is the fastest.

I agree, the one that is installed is perfectly fine and you dont have to worry about all these bugs
Just wanted to thank you again for posting the cab. I was finally able to download it using internet exploer and its working great. Just my 2 cents, 3g plus opera mini equals fastest mobile internet experience ever only to be rivaled by wifi which is not so mobile.
You're welcome. I hear ya buddy, I like Opera Mini more than any of the other mobile browsers except Safari. I still use it even though I have full 3G & could Opera Mobile, but Mobile just sucks, right along with IE.

What are the trade-offs between using Jblend vs. Jbed?
It's been a while since I've used Jbed. I remember it had a background mode, which Jblend still doesn't have. And I'm not crazy about how Jblend throws a wobbly when I change screen orientation.
But, beyond that I don't know how the Jblend version on the TP2 compares with the current Jbed. I haven't found any good comparisons that were less than a year or two old. Even the MIDlet Bible is out of date now.
I don't have a particular attachment to Jblend, but saying it "sucks" isn't a real compelling argument against it. Are there any real performance comparisons you're aware of between Jblend and other JVMs?
I base my statement off the fact that if you open/close the keyboard, the whole thing crashes/resets/whatever... That right there was the deal breaker.

I use mini instead of 9.7b w/ turbo.
Why:
Mini is an order of magnitude faster in real life.
9.7b is still buggy as hell, often crashing.
Scrolling on 9.7b is painfully slow and redraws take a long time compared to Mini Opera.
Granted, one must install the above linked JBED+signed Opera Mini+associated quick link to get anywhere near usable installation of Opera Mini, and even after that one has to tweak the font size.
But once this is done, there's no contenst - at least for me. Mini Opera is waaaay faster than Opera 9.7b with turbo enabled.
Faster is not always better
both mini and mobile are great versions of the browser
what I like more from mobile is that is more complete more similar to a laptop browser, yes mini is faster but I still prefer opera mobile!
I have plenty of free memory and RAM to run it smoothly
And let´s wait to have the final stable release! that would be great!
just my opinion,
Mini is not just a little bit faster, its a lot faster. At least for me it is. Sure Mobile has more of a desktop look and feel and offers a more complete webpage experience. Thing is I dont need all the fancy flash animations and things of that nature when I am just trying to quickly check a website like this forum. I have both mini and mobile in case I have a problem with a certain site and even mobile gave me problems which made me resort to IE just to download a cab file.
I do have one problem though. Anyway to make the images larger on mini? I dled the hi res version as suggested and now all pics and certain buttons are very tiny. I tried settings and changed the image quality but this did nothing for the image size. Any solution?

Yeah, that's definitely a nuisance, but so far it hasn't been a deal breaker for me. I use TouchPal as an on-screen keyboard most of the time, although I wouldn't give up the TP2 keyboard...when I feel the need for it, it's great. I still don't know if I'd label Jblend with "sucks", since I don't know how its performance compares overall, but if I changed orientations a lot when browsing and had to keep re-running Opera Mini, I'd be switching JVMs too!

There is NO BROWSER for WM that can view online flash videos except Skyfire. I couldn't get BOLT to work with videos either. I got rid of my Excalibur once I realized MS was abandoning WM6.x and lower and only focusing on WM7. Android 2.2 rocks!, has built-in full adobe flash 10, not flash lite. I watch online videos with stock browser, no skyfire needed.
