HTC 3x3 People Widget

I have just been playing trying to find out if it's possible to replace certain elements of the Android OS with ones from other providers to improve certain aspects.
My main reason for doing this is that my Hero (latest Orange UK 1.5 ROM) has the HTC People Widget which only has the 1x3 option. I'm led to believe that the T-Mobile G2 has a version of the widget that offers other settings (i.e. 3x3).
So the main question is, is it possible to rip the APK from one phone and install it on another?
What I've tried so far leads me to believe the answer is "no".
I've been provided with the apk from a T-Mobile G2
I have a rooted Hero so have booted to the recovery console, deleted the version from my phone (htccontactwidgets.apk and htccontactwidgets.odex) and replaced it with the apk file provided (renamed to htccontactwidgets.apk) then rebooted. Got nothing on this attempt.
My second attempt I used the new apk with the old odex file, this time the widget returned but was still the 1x3 version from my ROM.
Has anybody successfully replaced the 1x3 widget with the improved one from the G2 ROM?

did you try flashing modaco roms? the 3x3 people widgets , i had it since i dont even remember when. i think it's from the 2.73 roms.

I don't really want to flash the whole phone, I'm happy with it now, i'd just like the enhanced People widget.
I'm guessing it will be standard in the official 2.x ROM.

Your missing out then
modaco 3.1 is exactly the same as the stock HTC rom only about 10x faster. I don't even find it lagging on the keyboard even on the phone keypad. You will have a much more pleasurable experience on modaco 3.1 plus you will have the 3x3 people widget

yea, i had the orange branded as well, and i put the newer generic one, it has the 3x3 widget

hehehe. welcome to the flashing addiction!!!!

I have been on the XDA and Modaco scene for a very long time as a viewer and have partaken in flashing custom ROMs several times before but I always have the feeling at the bottom of my gut that if things go wrong I'll be devastated. The Hero is quite simply the best phone I've ever owned (I said my N95 as good and was reluctant to upgrade from that until I found the Hero) which is why I didn't want to knacker it up, but the benefits far outweigh the risks as far as Paul's ROMs are concerned.
I've read with interest people saying that the MCR 3.1 ROM is draining their battery, and I too thought this but then noticed in the "Spare Parts" app that an app I'd installed (ShootMe) was taking up a lot of processor time sat in the background, so the next charge should prove it's normally 3rd party apps that drink battery power
On a final note, just have to say I absolutely love the Dropbear SSH server, makes it so much easier to tinker with the phone being able to SSH from a desktop.

I cant say I have had problems with the battery. If anything I'm finding mine is lasting a lot longer than it used to. Charged my hero 3 days ago and its still green now. This is with using wi-fi every now and again. Auto updating rss, e-mails etc and I text a lot. Now this I find unbelievable but its true I have the stock HTC battery too. On the stock HTC F/W I was re-charging every night.

3 days??????with data connection 24/24??? how do you manage that? i only manage 18 hours with mine. of course with data connection always on, calls, im's, mails

The data connection isn't always on. Wifi is on most of the time, but that gets turned off automatically for a while. But y/day 3G was on all day and it still didn't drain much battery.

Boot up and live wallpapers

I successfully installed android!
However, whenever I boot into android...there is no "nexus boot" animation...it's just a black screen. Android then shows up, but it's landscape oriented every time i boot into it. I always have to open the keyboard then close it to fix it. I also get these error messages giving me the option to force close or wait. And for some odd reason, under my reg folder (I use total commander), the gen.y dual boot folder gets deleted if i boot back into winmo, disabling me from booting into android again unless i reinstall gen.y. Live wallpapers is another issue for me as they DO NOT WORK. I installed the picklivewallpaper.apk and dled a live wallpaper from the android market and i DO see the live wallpaper as a choice when i go to wallpapers >> live wallpapers...however when i select one the screen goes black saying "loading live wallpaper" but never loads it. i've heard that the android cab should have some temp live wallpapers but i do not see them anywhere.
I've installed android and gen.y correctly so you don't have to worry about that.
Can anyone help me?

i had similar problems at first also. i couldnt find the live wallpapers or anything that was included. whenever i went to app store, to download, it wouldnt let me. i just uninstalled and installed again. now everything wrks as far as wrking in this version. hopefully dat might help. not too long ago i accidentally erased some audio folder but phone still works fine in android OS. the volume just very low. i might justt uninstall again to get folder i erased..lol still boots up and load with no problem. i see the nexus one animation when its booting up also

Which version of android OS are you running? I'm running the latest one and I heard that the live wallpapers feature was taken off due to RAM issues.
Also, my battery is always at 100%...I'm wondering if this means that there is an issue with the battery indicator or if Android OS is really bad ass when it comes to battery usage lol.

I have the 2.1 version. Or at least thats what it says in the phone details in android mode. The latest cab version install.
You know they have it that you can manually add files to update the roofts, zImage, and the g someth..lol Which i was unsuccessful last night in trying to replace with the newest ones, i got from online. Followed the instructions exactly but still didnt work. Even Copied them to my device notes..lol I will figure it out soon enough. Thats another thread.
As far as live wallpapers, mines work fine. I dont know if when i figure how to add those new files, it might not work. Im still learning but fast pace. im dealing with this and the gene y dual boot. Cant get that to exact recognize android. Did at one time, when moving some files around but got hung up at near the end of HaRET.exe loading info. I finally got the reefermadness modded Gene Y Dual Boot CAB, so ima try that later and see if that fixes it.
The battery issue is a known. Its always like that. I try to look at the the battery details to watch the volts go down but dont know if thats real indicator. It does go down and shows you if your charger is charging the phone while in XDAndroid OS. Plus i tried downloading Batter widget but that always say 100% also.

I had the same gen.y dualboot issue with recognizing android but now mine works . I just redid every step and voila! and where do i get those three files you were talking about? the ones you said that i had to manually download/update? and why do i need them? everything seems fine with my android 0_0 unless im missing something......? eek! >.<;;
And thanks reef, I understand why my live wallpapers wasnt working now haha.

Galaxy Nexus UI Stuttering (maybe normal?)

I've been noticing on my LTE GN that, for example, when clicking on items on the Settings menu, the clicked-on item's blue highlight would fade and then the next screen would come on. But the fading of the blue highlight stutters a little, it fades half way, then pauses while the system works on loading up the next screen presumably, then quickly fades the whole way and switches to the next screen. Is this normal? It's not a big deal at all but the only reason I ask is because all the reviews I've read say that the UI is perfectly smooth, so I'm not sure if this is on all devices or if this is just my device.

Didn't notice that until now. Are you using a custom rom? I'm currently on Android Revolution HD 2.1.2.

Fully stock, haven't unlocked bootloader yet as I'm waiting to port my number to Verizon. So you notice it too?

I'm experiencing the exact same thing. The settings was stuttering, also the app drawer whenever i scroll through the widgets.
Were you able to fix this yet?

i hope the 4.0.2 will fix it..

Fit to screen

I've noticed that "fit to screen" feature doesn't work anymore (neither in Dolphin nor stock browser). Until a few days ago, when I was using pincht zoom, the page reloaded to fit the text to the screen. Now that is not happening anymore.
It's ICS related (I've switched recently to IceColdSandwich) or the new update from Dolphin screwed things over ?

Try asking that on the IceColdSandwich thread. Someone using the same ROM can test it out for you to check whether it's ROM related.

Screen off during calls
Just installed this for a friend yesterday. While she is on a call the screen turns off and stays off. She has to pull the battery to end the call, is anyone else experiencing this behavior? She downloaded an app to test the proximity sensor and the app showed that it wasn't working. I'm assuming that these may be related.

Keyboard Changer

Was running the 0105 build before the 0118 came out. Clean flashed the 0118 build and I was not able to change the keyboard, it keeps FC.
Main reason why I want to change it, is because the stock AOSP keyboard doesn't have swype typing functioning. The option is there (gesture typing) but it doesn't work. I would have to install the google keyboard and use that for swype to work.
Also, probably not a big issue but the google play movies & tv doesn't work.

Failed to flash
I was trying to flash up from 4.1.1 is there extra steps I need to take? I also have a 4.1.2 modem.
I got it flashed after updating twrp. Next question is there a task manager? How do I close open apps?

I love the look of this ROM, but every time I flash lollipop on my T0ltetmo, I get Google TV and Movies force closing repeatedly. Has that been fixed in the new nightlies? What can I do to track down the issue?

T889 Note 2 constantly rebooting
I have just installed the ROM on my tmobile Note 2, and everything was fine except for the fact that is constantly returns to the android splash screen.

System profiles bug
Any chance you guys can fix the system profiles bug where WiFi fails to turn on if the profile also turns on Airplane Mode? I think you inherit it from a CM bug (BACON-1188, can't post a link) that has been ignored for a few months now.
I'm pretty sure the fix is as simple as moving mAirplaneMode.processOverride(context); up by ~10 lines in doSelect(Context context) in frameworks/base/core/java/android/app/Profile.java (line ~750) , but I can't currently get 5.0.2 to build at all so I have no way of testing.

My experience after a day on Nameless
I was running a stock Samsung Android 4.3 ROM on my Note 2, which had become so slow and unusable that I finally took the plunge and switched to Nameless. Here my results:
Used TWRP 2.7.2.0 without any issues
Followed the instructions on the OP for wiping and formatting
I used nameless-5.0.2-20150201-t0lte-NIGHTLY for the ROM
And gapps-lp-20141109-signed for Google Play
The whole process went really smooth, and everything came up fine the first time. I was ready to claim victory until I decided to add a second Google account (I keep two separate accounts, one for Personal and one for Work).
Right at the end of adding the second account I suddenly started getting dozens of Google Play Movies & TV has stopped working popups. First they came really fast and then slower and slower until the Note 2 eventually froze up and I had to take out the battery to restart it. Once the system had booted up the same thing started again, Movies & TV endlessly crashing until the system was frozen after about 1 minute.
The third time around I managed to quickly navigate to the Apps settings and disabled the Movies & TV app (since you can't uninstall it). Before I could finish it froze up again but this time after restarting it was good again. Interestingly it didn't actually disable the Movies & TV app, but it looks like it had wiped its cache, which must have been enough to get it back to stable mode. I have a feeling adding the second Google account synced something into it that messed it up. However, on the Work account that I added there are no Movies or TV shows at all, but my Personal account has some.
Just thought I should share this since it doesn't seem anyone else mentioned it on the thread yet. I'll post again if I hit any other issues. This is my main phone and Android device which I use all day long, so if there are issues, I'll find them

I had the same thing, but was able to fix it by wiping the cache for the Movies & TV app in the App settings! If that doesn't work for you and you don't really need the app, you can also Disable it in the App settings, which should keep it from trying to launch.

Day 2 experiences
This is a follow up from my previous post with day 1 experience after installing this ROM.
I've been seeing some graphics rendering issues which have led to the device freezing up requiring battery pull
Sometimes when scrolling in Google Chrome the bottom of the screen looks all scrambled, but refreshes and looks fine once I stop scrolling. No lock-ups from this.
Games that play video ads are my #1 problem. If I'm lucky the video ad will play but the colors look all messed up, a mix of black and white and green flashing. If I'm unlucky, the video won't play and the device freezes up instead.
Any way to fix this?
I also had an issue with the keyboard Gesture Typing not working, which I resolved by installing the official Google Keyboard app from Google Play and use that instead of the Android Keyboard (AOSP) that came with the ROM, even though they look and work exactly the same and have the same settings. And even though I didn't have any issues, I did the same for the Google Camera app, where I installed the Google Play version instead of the built-in one, even though it looks and works exactly the same.

This ROM is awesome! I waited until last week then made the jump, thought I'd let all you "release freaks" deal with it first. Except for a couple of crashes in the first two days this has been very stable. Everything works for me.

You can use the AudioFX app to boost the volume for your headset, that's probably the easiest way if the regular volume control doesn't go loud enough for you.

Thank you but I already tried that by turning up the EQ to the highest. It's hard to hear someone if the surroundings are loud. I have been using the speaker to get by at work.

NamelessRom 2.0
Why is there no OTA update integrated within the settings. This Rom is great one of my favorites. We as users should be able to get quick fixes and updates as soon as they're released. The quicker we can get these updates the faster we can help make this better, faster, and truly more efficient.

Otg is not working and screen cast is not working . any fix available ?

screen cast will work through Chromecast app but will not when using the toggle .
Otg works but device must reboot to use it the second time

Are there any kernels with sound mods . I tried boeffla control but it stated , not supported .
Update: AGNi pureCM OC v3.0.3 works great it's found in the N7105 forum

Gear S wont pair to Samsung Gear App
I installed this rom on my phone and I have a gear s and I have read other posts trying to get Gear app to work on Lollipop.
I got the app installed successfully, but every time I try to connect the watch to the app, it says "unforuntalty, HostManger has stopped"
What can I do to get the watch to pair up with the app?
