Has anybody else had any issues with using the desire when lying down? When doing this I seem to have problems with my input registering on the point I've touched, and will open a link from a completely different part of the screen.
Cheers guys.

you mean when using the device up-side down? (screen facing floor)?
I have found a weird screen registering niggle when using the web-browser. If you pretty the back button on a page, and then you go to click on a link, the Desire seems to register the press slightly lower than it should be, which is annoying. I need to look into this a bit more, but on pages with many links line by line it may cause issues.
This is the same issue as the Nexus One - you have to put the device in sleep by pressing the power button to fix it.
Happens to me sometimes on the Desire ROM, but I find it's less frequent than it was on stock Nexus One, for what that's worth. Oh, and it mostly happens when the device is plugged into a USB port.

Hello. My haptic buttons (4 bottom touch buttons) are sometimes unresponsive. Sometimes when i'm using the browser I'll get stuck in it for a few seconds. And often after unlocking the phone they are also unresponsive. I just move my fender around the screen to make it come back. It's not a big issue but it is annoying.
Is there a fix? thanks!

If it did, flash my rom and visit my thread!!!!

I've had this on ICS on occasion as well, after waking the phone up. I do the same thing - move my finger around to get them to come on.
I can't find hardkeys always on options. can be it same as tough key light always on?

This isn't an ICS issue. It happens on custom AND stock GB as well.
Often, you can make them responsive again by hitting one of the volume keys, too.
I doubt its a hardware issue... It must be a driver issue.
Quite frequently, my glide's physical keyboard stops working. A reboot fixes it but is kind of annoying to do this once a day
This is a new phone (less than a week old) and I am trying to find out if this is a known issue and if there is a fix for it. If my phone is defective, I might be able to still get a replacement from newegg.
I notice that there was another thread in XDA on the same topic but it quickly moved on to discuss some other issue with no clear advice.
Thanks and appreciate your help,

Stops working all together or opens up different applications when you press a key? I had the latter. If it is the apps opening up double check you do not have any shift type button stuck as that would make it act funny and appear to not be working properly.
Tap on "ALT", "SHIFT", "SEARCH" see if that fixes it.

Thanks for the response. I went back to my old iPhone 3 (Yuck). Let me double check on that when I get home this evening.

If it is launching Different apps then it is the Quick launch that is the cause. You can see what Shortcut is associated with which app go here:Settings -> Applications -> Quick Launch
Most Launch with Search + any key. Perhaps your search button is stuck.
JB
Mine has that problem as well usually requires a reboot as well but can't ever get it to just do it on command. U on a custom rom? Or stock?
If the random apps are opening, open the landscape keyboard and press the search button. If you accidentally press it and then you press a corresponding letter to open a certain app, it'll so that. And when you hit back, the phone thinks that you pressed the wrong letter key and has that quick open on. Just press search again. That's all lol

I also have the problem of physical keyboard that stops working. No random apps, it just stops working. What to do to fix the issue, aside from rebooting?
Thx

I am on stock. It's just annoying when it happens at least once in 2 days.
I am thinking of rooting it and installing a custom rom to see if that takes care of it. Will keep you all posted.
I might turn on the debugging level in the logs as well to see if I can find out what's going on. Given that this happens only every two days or so, not sure if that will help much but let me see.

I am on Rogers stock ROM. At this point, it certainly looks like something to do with the software (will be hard to find several of us having the same hardware problem).

+1.
My keyboard stops working too, but this doesn't happen very often. I experience this about once in 3-4 weeks for now.
I have had this problem a few times as well (on stock AT&T).. QWERTY doesn't respond at all, reboot fixes it! Got me worried the first couple of times though
I continue to run in to this once in a while. I have tried pressing all kinds of keys (search, alt etc) with no success. At times, I see some of the keys working but not others.
Anyway, this looks like software / driver issue. Looks like reboot is the only cure so far.
Hi,
I am experiencing some really strange problems with my phone. I have a 2-month-old HTC one X. I have never dropped it, it has never been in contact with any fluids or damp areas, also I have never tried to unlock and/or root it. It started two weeks ago. The screen started glitching and behaving weird. Sometimes it would stay for an hour, sometimes it was just a few seconds.
(sadly I cant post outside links, but if you search youtube on "HTC one X screen glitch" and than scroll down you will see a video uploaded by DjStasV. Thats what it looks like. But instead of only glitching on a small portion on the screen it was always the whole screen.
But now, it has gone one step further. Sometimes my phone won't unlock if I press the on/off key. The soft keys light up, but the screen doesn't. I can even get called, the phone will ring and vibrate, but I can not pickup because the screen doesn't turn on. For some reason it sometimes does unlock, but I have not been able to discover a reason for that. Also when I manage to unlock it, it sometimes just freezes (the screen). The phone still works (it rings, the notification LED works, it vibrates), but the screen is just frozen. (also a reboot by holding the power button does not work 9/10 times)
I am hoping someone will recognize this problem, and maybe even know how to solve it. Thanks in advance

Thats impressive, air is a fluid.
It sounds like a hardware fault.

In common usage, "fluid" is often used as a synonym for "liquid". But ofcourse, you are right
OT: Thanks for the quick responses, I will check at the nearest HTC service center then
The phone reacts on its own from time to time. When you're in a menu it opens sub menus and starts to turn things on and off in a really fast way. I don't know what to do. It just happens sometimes but then its really annoying. I had this problem with the latest HTC GB and now with the latest official CM 7.2. So I don't think it's a software problem but hardware problem? It just startet to do that one day. I already cleaned the mouse button with an air-spray but it didn't help. Or maybe its a touchdisplay problem?
Any suggestions? Did anyone ever had something like that?
Cheers 41

digitizer problem i think. its the touch section above the LCD which is responsible for detecting touch. its very cheap to get replaced. but i am not sure.

Phantom touches are a digitizer issue usually. There should be a setting in cm7 to show on screen touches. If its showing you touches and your not pushing then replacing the digitizer is your best bet

Problem: Cannot turn on the screen by pressing the power button sometimes. The screen is black or very dim, I cannot tell. One can see nothing on the screen, and it doesn’t accept any touch input, either. The phone still rings if there’s an incoming call. If this happens, the following several presses (about 10 - 20) on the power button will probably lead to a reboot. The “screen auto-rotate” and the proximity sensor may fail after the reboot, but will recover after a manual reboot.
Frequency: Fewer with higher Rom version. About once per day for 4.3.
Other description:
The problem frequently happens when I just take the phone outside my house/office, and seldom happens when the phone just stays somewhere.
The problem seems to be irrelevant to the remaining battery capacity or the uptime, but it never happens when charging.
The problem seems to be irrelevant to the Apps installed.
The problem seldom happens in the first 3-4 days after flashing a Rom, but happens more and more frequently as time goes by. My guess is some cache is stuffed by some trash, which causes the problem. The phone may be fine as long as the trash can be cleaned up on a regular basis.
I manually reboot my phone at most every two days.
Solutions tried, but don’t work
Flashing official ROMs 4.0.4, 4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.2.2 and 4.3 following the procedure “adb reboot bootloader; fastboot oem unlock; flash-all; fastboot oem lock”, without google wallet, not rooted.
Turning off the auto-brightness control, as suggested by some post on the Internet.
Does it look like it goes to standby normally or does the screen show gibberish and then turns off?

Thank you very much.
I think it's standing-by normally even through the screen is black (or very dim, I cannot tell), since it rings if there's an incoming call. I can see nothing from the screen, and I don't think the screen accepts any touch input, either.
Does this answer your question? Thank you.

Was just asking if you had gibberish yes or no. In that case i've got a different issue than you (Suspecting f*cked GPU).
Have you tried a different ROM/Kernel combination maybe it's related to that.

No, I just tried the official ROMs. Any suggestion?
Perhaps it's just busy in the background and running low on RAM. Give LagFix a try. Sorry can't link atm as I am on mobile...

LagFix does NOT help in my case. Any other suggestions? Thanks.
I've also had this blank screen with calls still ring issue for as long as I can remember, nearly 2.5 yrs.
I've always suspected it's my ROM and so I'd try out another ROM'S, BUT no other ROM works like how I'd like, so I always come back to my ROM.
It doesn't happen every single day, but it does happen very often.
I've tried using apps that auto reboot daily, but eventually this blank screen issue will return.
Unfortunately I can't seem to find any solution, so I just put up with it, it's like the 1 only flaw with my ROM.
&
Not to be at all rude, but I'm really glad op has had this issue from testing other versions of Android, cause then at least I know I don't need to give up my great tablet mode ROM.
LOL
I think I've finally found a work around for this screen of death.
Using Exposed, download/install this module/extension:
Disable Proximity
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.mrchandler.disableprox
It does exactly what it's name is and ever since then I've not once had to remove my GN battery to work again because the screen went completely dead.
NVM
Screen still goes dead.
Anyone find an actual fix to this?
isajoo,
I had pretty much the same problems with my Galaxy Nexus running CyanogenMod 11 M12.
It got better by doing the following :
Blowing dry air in the earpiece… though the proximity sensor is clearly beside it. Can't do any harm though, I guess.
Settings/Applications/All/menu/Reset applications preferences (or whatever that's called in english) : that seemed to do a lot of good to my phone ! However, it's a very unsatisfactory answer on a technical point of view, as I still don't know WHAT was precisely needed. It's a "magic wand" solution for which I can't give an explanation.
Not specifically related, but greatly helped my phone in the responsiveness area : Trimmer (fstrim) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fifthelement.trimmer), an updated version of LagFix that you may already know
Hope that helped !
(I wanted to try http://www.androidlegend.com/how-to-perform-proximity-sensor-calibration-on-any-samsung-phone/ as well, but apparently, /sys/class/sensors/proximity_sensor/prox_cal does not exist on my phone…)
