Headphone volume too quiet - Desire General

Hi,
Does anyone else find that the max headphone volume when playing music is way too quiet?
Love the phone otherwise though!

have terrible hearing and one think I hope to be able to do is hear my music on the desire.........
Hope it's not too quiet. Could it be what you have on there has been recorded quiet?

I disagree, i think it's loud. It's louder than the G1 with the loudhack applied anyway.

Thats for the G1

Having listened to it all the way to work today, I'm still unimpressed with the max volume - it's just not enough

I think this of my THD when using the standard type earphones - still not loud enough even at full volume. My Sennheisers make ALL the difference and I find that just 1-2 (scale 1-10) is plenty. I would personally recommend a pair of CX300s as I haven't been able to fault mine.

im using CX300 MK2 and yea it could be a bit louder the volume.

I'm using CX500s (just to trump you all) and I also feel that the volume could be louder, putting it on max volume just makes me feel like I'm hurting my ears for some reason even when it's not loud haha

deffiently louder than my iphone and my ipod classic. I'm happy with the volume - coincidently im also using the cx300's lol. Quite happy with the overall sound quality in general. Will be nice for uni!

Speaker quality?

I haven't received my GN yet, but I'll be getting it in the next couple of days.
I was curious about everyone's experience so far with the rear mounted speaker for notification sounds and ringtones. Coming from a Samsung Infuse, I've always hated how quiet the speaker on it was.
Hate to disappoint you, but from what I have read the speaker volume is on the quiet side. However, the audio quality is pretty good.
Coming from an iphone 4s the speaker is incredibly quiet and sounds like crap lol. volume+ helped make it louder so i can at least hear my notifications (kind of a joke it takes a pay app to do that). Luckily the rest of the phone is great

I actually never even heard of volume+ until now. Thanks for that.
I had a listen to my sister's galaxy s yesterday. Coming from a Nexus one, I found the loud speaker far superioir both in terms of volume and quality. Can anyone compare the galaxy nexus to the galaxy s so I cab build an image of.its performance please?

I bet ya if you choose a ringtone similar to the ones in the iPhone 4 it will be the same
The speaker's volume is quiet and not loud.
Would love to know if there is a way make it louder without ruin it.

Pretty quiet, especially coming from a 4S. I might have to look into the volume + app.. hopefully not at the expense of the speakers though

As long as they sound decent they can be branded Flavor Flav, no matter to me. :silly:
Beats suck anyways. They're made from cheap plastic, have poor frequency response and tracking, and IMO aren't comfortable at all. Spend the same amount of cash on a pair of Sennheisers and you'll end up with a much higher quality product.

I can confirm that the earbuds are well made. They have great sounds for being included. And they're a comfortable fit.

Good to hear. I wasn't expecting anything high end, just a level of quality that complements that of the phone. I thought the buds that came with the NS4G were awful; muddy lows, and no real highs. Not to mention they were broken within a couple months.

Look likes they went with off branded beats style. Since they have licensing I wonder if the price point from beats was too expensive.
I like my Shure SE530's - upgraded them from my SE500 from a few years back. A little bit better but a little brighter than my SE500's. Of course I need to stream music to them for a couple of days continuously to break them in.
Beats Audio is overhyped plastic bits with weak drivers and horrible fidelity.
But then again good sound is subjective. I love FLAC and can hear the difference and most of my friends can't hear it until I make them listen to to non-FLAC and FLAC and they are like OH WOW. But they will usually say that for what they want out of headphones/earphones the basics are okay.
It's all personal taste.
I'm glad to know that these are not the beats buds...T-Mobile does not include the ear buds and I was bummed out, but if they are just regular ear buds then I'm cool, I'm not missing out.

I have never used Beats, I wonder if those who say they are bad have used them or just repeating what others have said (who may have never used them). Not saying they are good, just wondering why people talk crap about something they have no experience with. I would love to see real tests of them, not opinions. Opinions are like butt holes, everyone has one.

I'm an Etymotic man myself. The sound isolation is the best I've ever encountered - a godsend when travelling on noisy trains. The sound quality is superb as well; but they aren't that cheap.
The earbuds that came with the H1 suck IMO. I'm a tall guy and they are extremely short. I have a pair of Klipsch Image One headphones that work well with the one. The volume controls don't work with the H1, but the mic is supported.
I'm partial to my Ultimate Ears Triplefi 10

Speaker hype

So I have heard lots of great things about the speakers on this phone and I'm trying to decide if it's a lot of hype or if I got a phone with bad speakers. I have had the phone for 10 days now and while the clarity is good I'm not impressed with how loud the speakers are. Example is 4 of us were standing around a table watching you tube video yesterday and I wanted some more volume but it was all the way up. We could all hear ok but it wasn't overly loud. Another example is I turned on music player and cranked it all the way up and took a shower, phone was about 3 feet from the shower and I could barely hear the music. So I'm looking for your opinion did I get sub par speakers or am I expecting to much from these speakers?

I have not had a chance to compare it to another HTC one,but I just compared it to my old droid incredible 2 and the incredible 2 is every bit as loud if not louder. The one sounds a little better but like I said it is no louder than the old incredible 2. Hoping someone that used to have a incredible 2 can let me know what they think also.

I just compared my old dinc2 with my One, playing the same songs on each phone separately and at the same time, and the One was a little louder than the dinc2. Not by much, but definitely louder. However, the audio quality of the One is much, much better. Though I will happily listen to audio on my One while working, I never did that with the dinc2 given its speaker audio quality. As far as max volume is concerned, mine is plenty loud and I don't need it to be any louder.
Maybe stop by a Verizon store and compare the volume of yours with the display phone.
Mine isn't that much louder than my wife's iPhone either.

I stopped by Verizon today and did just that. I loaded a pearl jam song on both phones on youtube and they sounded the same. But I do agree with you that the sound quality on the one is far superior to the incredible 2, I just wish it was a little louder.

And this is the kind of thing I had heard about the phones speakers before I got it to lead me to believe that the speakers are even better than they are. You must have some better acoustics in your shower than I do. Over all I am happy with the speakers so I wont complain to much.
I've basically found that while this phone isn't all that much louder than other devices I've had. I came from the S4 and that was pretty loud.
However, the One has infinitely better clarity when it comes to the audio. I'll take that. Now if by some crazy magic they can figure out bass, but given the space available I'm sure that will never happen.
I have and have had a lot of android devices. Some of which (Galaxy Nexus) the speaker volume was so low that is required many tweaks via the kernel and third party apps to make it even reasonable. I agree with you that there is a lot of hype in the "boom sound" of the HTC One. Personally, I don't find the volume to be extremely loud but I do find the quality of the sound to be better than any of my other devices. The thin devices we all love jam so much into their size that the speakers often suffer. If you prefer loudness over the quality of the sound there are third party apps you could try. For me the sound is plenty loud and sounds great.
Loudest phone i've ever had. Some things don't seem like they're are that much louder, if noticeable than other phones, but obviously you have the clarity. Youtube may not be the best test as the audio isn't always the greatest. One thing i can note is when volume is maxxed, the notifications are ridiculously loud.
Seems pretty loud to me. I use it to listen to music while I shower and the fan is on. Still hear it fine. I'll be damned if another phone could match that performance.
Seems to be hit and miss with people. I think some had unrealistic expectations. Honestly for me they are perfect. You have to realize in any noisy environment nothing will hold up short of a real larger speaker. These things are outstanding when compared to any other phone.
With beats enabled the volume seems a bit quieter but the quality is much better out of the speakers. If you need a little louder try turning off beats.
?
So which phone would everyone say is the loudest?
If I remember my specs correctly, since there are two speakers, the One can do stereo audio.
My droid DNA was louder than the One but you had to have the phone on a flat surface as a reflector.

How are the front facing speakers?

Wondering how they sound on the XL because the speakers on the reg 2 sound great and get plenty loud. Best speakers I've ever had on a phone, going back to my M8.
The sound is so much louder than the original pixel, but the quality is meh at best. Definitely doesn't compare to my old HTC M7's speaker quality.
It does sound louder than my Pixel XL, but it is throatier too.
Anybody else playing music at full volume have your screen physically vibrating? When I touch the screen with my thumb, the whole screen is vibrating. WTF?

Yeah, starts about 3/4 volume and up. WTH? Feels like plastic vibrating. Yuck
Why does this matter? I'm not being snarky, I just don't understand what the complaint is. Does the screen, or any other part of the phone, rattle or otherwise misbehave?
I'm guessing the speaker drivers are located near the screen edges and are ported to the openings?
The front facing stereo speakers are loud and clear.

Hmmm well people have different hearing and difference definition of quality when it comes to sound so I'll just leave it at that. All I know is when I play music in my car I bear differences and the pixel 2 XL isn't great. My pixel 1 sounds better. The speaker even though it's front facing also doesn't sound good especially at higher volumes.

I notice that you both have a different way to define what you consider better.
I notice that the 2 XL is throatier, a deeper sound. For me, this makes the XL better for voice; voices sound more natural
Sound quality if, of course, not B&O quality but what I value about the dual front-facing speakers is that you can hear stereo effects. I would have never even noticed (or cared) about this we it not for my 6P. It's one of those "once you have it you can't go back" kind of things. The speakers were THE reason I didn't get the OG Pixel and THE reason I want the P2XL.

Question Terribly tinny and imbalanced sound?

I noticed that the sound quality of the built-in speakers is... terrible... to be putting it mildly. Initially I thought there was just a lot of bass but during calls the sound is very "sharp" but not in a good way, more like hurting my ears piercing. When I'm playing videos or music, not only is the top speaker at most half of the lower speaker's volume, but the overall experience is like the phone was dropped into a tin can. I already tried Wavelet to balance the speakers but the sound quality still is abysmal. My 3.5 year-old S9+ outperforms the 6Pro by far. The little things that bother me with this phone keep adding up and I'm not sure how many more I can take. At least the call quality should be OK, right?
.... Hopefully it ain't anything wrong with your device but I definitely don't have such an issue. I think the sound is great. Honestly I'm kind of impressed at how well the top speaker sounds yet I can barely even see the speaker based on how seamless the screen goes into the frame at the top.
Is it the best sound of any smart phone... No I'm sure it's not. Is it better than my pixel 4XL which had great sound to me, Yes. They are actually the same loudness yet the 6 pro sound is clearer at full volume. I understand that sound is subjective however I would have to 1000% disagree with you.

ironically a semi audiophile on reddit did a full on rant today how the audio had too much bass
meanwhile reviews say the speakers sound good and have actual bass for once but the mids/high increase the higher the volume gets

I don't know how good the S9+ sounds, never had one. What I can tell is that the P6 Pro sounds good, it has a slight imbalance between top and bottom, but in terms of clarity and bass, it's a good sounding phone speaker. So either your expectations are extraodinary, or your device is defective. Best go to the place where you bought it and ask that the store rep compares the sound of your phone to one that they have on display, that way you can quickly find out if your device has a defect.
Thank you all! Is there a good app or sound piece that I can use to test?

Wow really? You have them side by side and compared? I ask because my 4 XL was definitely better than my 2 XL and the 6 Pro is definitely louder and has more range than my 4 XL at all volume increments. Yeah in your home or reasonably quieter area than Best Buy, the difference is very noticeable. I keep all my sound volumes a little lower than my 4 XL settings because it's that much louder.
