Desire shipments delayed until April 7th - Desire General

Same for all the shops...damn!

Yep, just got a reply now from Handtec.co.uk (what are they doing up at this time!):
"Thank you for your email,
The HTC Desire sim free release date has now been slightly postponed, this is in response to confirmation from HTC that the release of this product will not be the previously mentioned 29th March but will be anytime between now and the 7th April,
I do apologise for this delay however this will not only affect Handtec however will affect all UK retailers as this has been imposed by HTC directly, however once the stock arrives we will promptly dispatch the goods,
Please advise if we can assist you further."
Damn.

That's funny, then how has mine been despatched by T-Mobile and they actually have them in?
Or is this just the retail / sim free units?

That's very upsetting! It's on their website now, too.

I thought the same, but their response to me made reference to sim free versions being delayed. No idea why this would be. Gutted really.

I got an e-mail from T-Mobile, saying mine has already shipped.
Supposedly it should reach me tomorrow (Saturday).

Clove sent me an email this afternoon too saying more or less the same thing. They emphasized that the unlocked/sim free version is delayed though, that's probably why the T-Mobile ones are shipping out no problem. Just a guess about that last one though.

Yeah I got the same from Clove back to the 7th

A little annoying but I will just have to put up with the hd2 for another week or so I guess. Cant complain to much.. Just returned to its original release date. Also received the mail from Clove at about half 5-6ish..

I guess it goes to show the pushing power the networks have when they want the hardware to go to them first.

That the main thing that frustrates me... I'm willing to pay £400 for the device but have to wait an extra week or so for the pleasure. Ahhh well I'm sure I will live..

Now I have nothing to look forward to...besides Easter egg hunting bwahaha
(Anyone like Peeps?)

Yeah I hope the first shipment is bigger than expected. I ordered mine from Clove and they already told me that mine will be shipped from the second lot. That was supposed to be on 2nd April (3 days later) so I will probably have to wait until the 10th to get mine shipped
Still, it's nice of them to keep us informed. Many places I have pre-ordered from in the past (particularly from Hong Kong) just keep you in the dark when due-dates change. That is the reason I won't deal with Expansys any more (not to mention their over-inflated prices).

Well, to those of you who went the carrier route, I think you're obligated to get reviews up IMMEDIATELY so those of us who are waiting have something to look at

Does anyone know if HTC provided a reason for the delay? If it's to fix a bug I'm more than happy to wait a little longer...

Allegedly, the Desire ROM failed Google testing - and the Big T fixed the issue quicker: www-coolsmartphone-com/news5645.html
Sorry, with a join date back in 2008 I'm a new user and must not use links ;-)

I'm from Belgium and here the shops have announced the 6th of April as release date although at some point they were mentioning 1st or 2nd of April...
Not a big deal, will wait one more week

Pretty annoying. Was getting really excited already, now gotta wait a whole lot longer. As I only recently pre ordered may be even longer till I get it....

It's weird!
Expansys UK and UAE are saying that they will have it in 4 days aka April 1...
Could they have pre-release stock like T-mobile?

When I heard about this on Saturday I was gutted and immediately assumed that HTC were putting the network carriers ahead of their direct customers, but if the Coolsmartphone report is correct then all is forgiven and I'd rather wait and let the HTC engineers work their magic.
From reading the posts on here of issues found by T-mobile folks who have received their phones already then it appears to me that they are mirroring the issues that were reported of early Desire ROMs, and if these are fixed in the phone I eventually receive then I'll be a contented bunny. In fact I'd even give HTC a big thumbs up to have the "spuds" to risk upsetting their fanbase by delaying launch to ensure that those of us forking out the full ~£400 for the Desire receive the best quality product possible.
However with people reporting issues, so unnerving me about the phone I'm going to get, and others saying it's fab so turning me green with envy, I might just have to give these forums a miss for the next week or so to keep my sanity!

Can we expect Orange release today (2nd)?

I've read a few reports suggesting that Orange will be making the desire available from today (Fri 2nd Apr) through its stores and possibly online. Think techradar confirmed this in a recent article.
Can anyone shed any more light on the chances of a release today?!
Go to bed.... wake up and see!
I would be suprised if they did as 4 days ago the guy at orange said he had no clue when it is out.
I rang Orange retentions at 09:01 this morning. No HTC Desire, no release date, not likely to be released later today. Just goes to show you can't always believe what you read on t'internet!
What they did say is that they feed back demand to the powers that be on a daily basis so the more people who ring up and ask for a Desire, the faster it will be released. Apparently they are waiting until their stock of HTC Hero and some other handsets is used up (around 3-4 days worth) before launching the Desire but will launch it earlier if they sense they are losing out to other networks.
If anyone hear different, let us know!
Ian A.
Well I'm gonna head off to Vodafone once Devicewire get them in - they've got a good £25/month deal with 600 mins +texts +'unlimited' internet. I have no real faith in Orange anymore unless retentions offer me a really good deal (and based on what I had to do 18 months ago, that is as likely as me playing for the Arsenal at the Nou Camp on Tuesday - although given our injuries... )
Oh and one more thing that will definitely delay it with Orange - last night the released the Xperia X10 - they'll want to shift them first before the HTC Desire. I originally wanted that but now the reviews haven't been that favourable - no multi-touch (ever!!!!), Android 1.6 with a promise to go to 2.1 (presumably when everyone has gone to 3.0) - although their mediascape, timescape interfaces do work well. Hardware wise it could've been the ultimate handset - 8MP camera, 4 inch hi-def screen etc. yet only being a smidgeon bigger than an iPhone. Yet SE screw up again by releasing a handset with a version of software that is 6 months old. And given their current record of not fully supporting their handsets when they're out (extrememly slow updates, with bugs not being ironed out) I think I'll be giving that one a miss...

Are they having a laugh? They'll releease it earlier if they sense they are losing out to other networks? OK, T-Mobile had first the exclusive to get it out first, but Vodafone have it and even bloody Virgin Media have it. Losing out to other networks is a masterpiece of understatement if VM have the thing and the supposed "best network of 2009" don't yet!
I doubt they will wait for them to get rid of Xerpia X10 as its the Desire's alternative option so people who dont like HTC and are Sony fans will go for that while others will want Desire.

Ordinarily that would be true but this is Orange we're talking about here!!!
Besides I believe they are the first to be selling the X10 so whilst they have that advantage they're gonna push that to the full. If you have a choice between that and the Desire then it fragments their sales for the X10. And let us not forget there is an outside chance of them not even stocking it all!
With the X1 they were constantly saying it was coming etc. and in the end they never officially released it (even though cpw and others were selling it on Orange plans). The X10 was listed as a coming soon phone for the last month or so, and yet the HTC Desire isn't even listed as coming soon.
It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if it never came out on Orange (esp. if they can't get their crapware onto it)...

Hehe - good news for you guys but:
http://shop.orange.co.uk/mobile-pho...nvBLDTszxGDLTK1j4vwH6JG!1816178946!-514848741
Still nothing for us! For the record I reckon it will come out but Lord knows when they will announce it. The Orange PR guy said 'early April, with the black edition late April'.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/29/htc-desire-black-edition-confirmed-coming-to-orange-uk-in-late/
When you consider that, it is quite bizarre that officially they don't even list it as coming soon...
Sometimes, Orange guys are not very well informed
I went in a shop two days ago (Desire already were on Orange website) and the man tell me he never heard speaking about the HTC Desire... We have so good sellers in our country
Well, once again I have spoken to Orqange and the best answer they could come out with was "within the next two weeks".
FFS it's typical Orange. Always the first to announce and the last to get!
I have, and I quote, been promised that "We'll send you a text message as soon as they have the handset available, so that you can arrange to obtain the phone".
Place your bets now on whether I'll actually get a text or not...

Yeah Orange are very bad at getting new phones in, I had this issue with the Nokia N78 and they never ended up getting it. Although that time, they had not announced they will have it while they did with Desire and its on the French website so in that way it must mean it WILL come but when is the question. They got till 14th as thats when I can upgrade ha ha but o2 not getting it till 19th and 3 till 20th so Orange got till then to be same time as others.
Have any of you guys considered making the switch to T-mobile seeing as how in a few months they will both be the same 1 network anyway?

I am - but the department that handles issuing the PAC codes aren't open today. Will be on the phone from 09:00 tomorrow to get it and then will order the T-Mobile package (£30/month 18 months) off mobiles.co.uk.
Apparently the phone isn't even in their reviews list and the bloke on the phone wasn't even sure they would be getting it!!!!
Bet i get a different story tomorrow when I finally get my PAC code....

If you go through T-Mobile themselves you'll get a much better deal, the are also much more reliable than mobiles.co.uk seem to be and if the phone breaks you have the added security that you can just take it back into a store for repair instead of bothering with mailing it off etc.
If you haggle on the phone you can get the prices down, I got from this:
Handset cost : £60
600 Minutes
500 Texts
Flexible Booster
3GB Internet
£25 P/M
To:
Handset Cost: Free
600 Mins
Unlimited Texts (the flexible booster)
3GB Internet
£25 P/M
Try these excuses:
- I just phoned up and was told the phone was £x (this is what I did, I was genuine but it worked, might have to phone twice as they have it on record I assume when you phoned up)
- x.com is doing a better deal
- Vodafone is doing a better deal.
Ah OK, thanks for the advice - I was assuming a lot of the good deals were for current customers - is your deal 18 months? I don't wish to be tied in to a two year contract...

No, Mine is 24 months but I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to do the same thing with a 18 month contract.
The 18 month equivalent of my plan is £30 a month.
I would change but like I said in previous post, I cant afford the £80 to finish off my contract till July and then another £25 a month from April so would cost me extra £80 to change over early and no point in waiting for July as by that time a new fone would be out.

Desire backlog in Belgium

For information:
Having ordered my Desire on July 9th, I just received an email that there's a serious backlog and it won't be delivered before August 11th.
Either there's some sort of production problem (display shortage?), indeed a backlog because of the huge popularity or it's maybe linked to the Froyo updates they want to perform before shipping.
Regards,
Mark
don't know, got mine the first day the silver desire came out
I think it's an issue with the display. Samsung are unable to supply enough screens to meet their own demand and HTCs as well. HTC are now switching from the OLED screen to a new SLCD. Maybe you'll be getting this new screen with your Desire.
I'll have to wait longer
Just received another email asking for more patience and this time, there's no new delivery date set forward.

Oh that sucks man.
I walked into my local phone store last week and asked fro a Desire on my contract (Upgrade was due!) the guy just went to the back and got one for me.
Loving the phone.
Hope you get yours soon bud.
3rd Update: not before Sep. 12th
I can't say I'm happy with all this but my D2 still workds like a charm.
I got it in my hands on September 15th!!!
Wow, that took way too long. Did you get any sort of compensation or discount as a good will gesture? Still, I imagine you're glad to finally get the Desire.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
No compensation, but my Diamond 2 still rocks so I didn't complain.
is the new phone SLCD or AMOLED?

Galaxy Nexus release delayed everywhere!

Hopes for 17th of November looks very grim and earlier than 17th release is even more unlikely now. Amazon just updated their release date to December 2.
www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Galaxy-Nexus-16GB-Smartphone/dp/B005XYU45E/
I contacted Amazon.co.uk customer support and I was told that the product, not just one batch, is indeed delayed.
Here is the relevant part of their reply:
I'm sorry for the unexpected delay of your order. I have researched the availability of "Samsung I9250 Galaxy Nexus 16GB Sim Free Smart Phone" and learned that its release has been delayed until December 02, 2011. As soon as the item has been released, we'll be able to dispatch it to you.
Oh God ... NO! ... Please don't do this Please don't delay ... I am a good boy this year and promised to be much better.

*sobs, gently*
I spoke to a rep at Handtec just now who said they were now expecting stock week commencing the 21st. They said that Samsung and the distributor had decided to delay the product.
The 17th is a day before my birthday, so i was really hoping for a nice, shiny early birthday present to myself.
Oh well.
I wrote another e-mail to Amazon, since I was not really satisfied with their previous response regarding the reasons for the delay. I'll try to find out as much as possible from their customer support.

The whole thing is a bit of a mess...
Samsung sent a press release on the 4th confirming release on the 17th.
Handtec then say, a matter of hours after the press release, that Samsung have pushed it back to w/c 21st.
Why send out a press release, then change the date a couple of hours later
cause this possibly be because all first batches have been filled.. ?
hardly. Looking at the interest and number of postings in the various Android Forums, the Galaxy Nexus is more of an underdog that an "uberphone" that appeals to the masses. And it would take "masses" for the GNexus to be sold out before launch.
Unless the "first batch" was 1000-2500 units or so. That would be my guess on pre-orders to date for Europe given what I have seen/read on the forums/twitter etc etc.

I preordered it the moment news appeared on my RSS feed that it can be preordered from Amazon.co.uk, so I would definitely be on the first batch. But their customer support said that the product has been delayed and it has nothing to do with batches.
I did send a follow-up e-mail though, asking for more specific information about the reasons for delay. Unlikely that I will get anything revealing due to possibly negative press though.

i sent @samsungmobileus and @samsungtweets a tweet asking if it has been pushed back.. fingers crossed for confirmation.. you guys do the same !
Google should put out a statement How many times have they done this.
User named 'Andrew Bates' just commented in Amazon.co.uk that he called Amazon and was told that 17 November is still the dispatch date for his order and that 2nd of December will be the re-stock date. So this might be a batch issue. Don't take it for granted though, let's wait some more for additional replies and information, because the stock date seems to be changing all around now and this might be just Amazon trying to avoid large number of canceled preorders.
I'll let you know once I find out something more.
Well, Amazon just debunked the theory of batches and said that: Unfortunately our suppliers have delayed release of the product: Samsung I9250 Galaxy Nexus 16GB Sim Free Smart Phone to us.
So the product is, in fact, in delay. At least in Amazon.
Bummer!
Hope it's not a sign of a manufacturing glitch.
Hopefully they'll come out ahead of the newest estimates. It's really impossible to know until the phones start hitting the retailers, though.
If the Nexus really is delayed, then this certainly won't be good for sales. I plan to buy a Nexus and sell my GS2, but if it keeps getting pushed back there'll literally be only 2 months between being able to buy the Nexus and then the GS3 being announced; undoubtedly with far greater specifications.
They need to get this out soon.
This is painful to say the least
On the launch event it was confirmed as early November release, now I dont know about you but I dont consider 17th November early November at all, and now they are saying December??
This whole thing is starting to look like a mess and I will be cancelling my order [still scheduled for dispatch with amazon on the 17th] and going out in the real world to find one if my Galaxy Nexus hasn't been dispatched before the 17th for delivery on the 17th
Meanwhile, the Samsung UK twitter linked a preorder page on Facebook just two hours ago, while not mentioning anything about delays. Hilarious as ****. And by "hilarious" I mean sad.

[Q] what date have dial a phone said for delivery

as title says.they told me 11th April
same here, told me on the phone the 7th but my email confirmation says the 11th.
Also the 11th for my order with dialaphone. Seems like everyone got the same date. Still if it comes sooner then that's great.
11th for me too.
Mine says 11th too, shows credit check passed. They've also taken payment for the handset.
this is mainly due to bank holiday weekends ofcourse. Never mind few days more will not kill you.

11th for me as well on the Vodafone contract. Don't mind waiting a few extra days but would be nice to get it before Easter holidays, doubt that will happen!
It may possibly come earlier.
This late date might be for the stats as proof they have 'exceeded customers' expectations' by delivering earlier than promised. Who knows, it may have a 'stretch target' to exceed delivery times to qualify for a bonus.
On the other hand, they might be telling the truth

I ordered my One X through Dialaphone almost 2 weeks ago now, I did call and speak to a gent just before ordering and he said they where due them in on the 7th, which if your not aware is Good Friday, if this is true then they probably won't ship till the following Tuesday after Easter Monday. That would make delivery date the 11th which is what everyone's order probably does say!
I live in hope that they may come in a day earlier and MAYBE come on the Friday/Saturday but it is unlikely so I am just banking on the 11th, itll be far less disppointing that way
I don't know why companies like HTC choose such a stupid time to release handsets. They could have chose any week, instead they choose Easter week. So annoying, lol.
But you are right, all these conspiracy theories about the phones being shipped late due to branding are probably all a load of crap. It's just the lack of days available to deliver due to the holidays that is causing the delays.
It's still not to say obviously that some phones could be branded, but lets hope not.

Anyone lost their money from them?
I actually bought twice from them in the past but this time it's been more than 2 weeks and my order still shows New. A friend told me that his order is still new after 40 days. I know they will ship it at some point in time, maybe 2-3 months but I was actually thinking to cancel the order. On the other hand it's about 100EU cheaper than anyone else. All those issues with HOX also made me cool down and add a plus on those thoughts and I'm also making thoughts for SG3.
I know, all review sites on Internet have them very low rated (one star) but still they are by far the cheapest.
Any of you guys lost his money from them?
I didn't personnally buy from them but when i was planning to i did a little a search and found that it's really not recommended, some product arrive very late others never.
Yeah, when I saw those reviews I just didn't care anymore... I'd rather pay 100€ more and actually receive the product than to pay less and get burned...
Now th big concern is if you cancel or not. I've seen that most people who lost their money is when they attempted to cancel orders or claiming funds. That gives them the chance to "confuse" things and keep your money while not sendingany product. Here's the question: to cancel or not to cancel?
I'm a gambler so, I'll take my chances and play heads or tail. I'll give some more days though but in the meantime I recommend that noone uses them. I guess that some people, like myself, don't learn from our past mistakes.

Finally, after a couple of weeks and tons of emails and threats I got a refund. They have awful support and I do not recommend ordering from them.
Not to mention that the product comes from Hong Kong, so you will need to contact HTC to check if they cover warranty.
I bought my LG Optimus 2x from them, it took ages to arrive but it did in the end. It was a hell of a lot cheaper than everyone else too. Heard some bad things about them so I probably wouldn't use them again though.

I bought 2 cameras from them till date and they both arrived in time as described. The 2 purchases were a year apart. The second camera though had a European battery charger. Apart from the above I haven't had to use warranty on either indicating the items must be genuine.
Mind it - for whatever good or bad reason, I hadn't researched anywhere before buying from them. Had I known about their reviews, I would not have bought from them.
My friend recently purchased ipad2 from them but cancelled it before they despatched and got refunded without any hassle.
Don't know what to advice you but hope the above experiences shared help.

Not worth the trouble!
Just come across this post and thought I'd share my experience (to back up the thousands of others you can find on the net) about how ridiculous SimplyElectronics are as a company and to avoid them if you care for your sanity.
I placed an order for a Galaxy Nexus on 30/06/12, enticed by the low price and 'expect delivery in 2-4 days' advertisement. After 6 days of the order being stuck at 'New' (which I found out means that they haven't even processed the order, it means they have accepted your offer of purchase, which means that they take the money out of your bank, and then do nothing for a while) and after sending a few emails asking why my order hadn't been processed even though the Live Stock Report said there were plenty in stock, I decided to cancel my order on 5/06/12. They asked me why, I explained that I needed the phone as I work offshore and was going away, and had ordered it elsewhere from a more efficient company. They said they understood my decision and my refund request had been passed to the relevant department. I left it for a few days. Then when 10 days later the money hadn't been returned I started emailing them again. I have now been sending emails daily asking for my refund, yet 24 days after cancelling my order I'm still receiving apologetic emails saying they're trying their hardest.
I guess the short version of my warning to others is this is not a company you should conduct business unless you have the patience of a God. I know from looking around other sites I'm not the only one who has been a victim of their incompetence. I'm sure they have 10's of satisfied customers all around the globe, I just wish I'd done more reading first. If you can find the product elsewhere that costs slightly more than they are selling them for, pay the extra, it will save you alot of time.

becouse i think about possible problems with the device
I've posted on Facebook, Google + and anywhere else I could think of after my recent attempt to get a One X from them.
Web showed stock, blurb said dispatched & delivered in 3 to 8 days. Took my money immediately and then the problems started.
Used Barclaycard fraud department to get my money back while I fought SE for a refund. 13th May to today spookily enough to get my refund.
God knows how many calls & emails...
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!
And if you already have, use your card company to get your money back.
Just stop right here. If any manufacture start too sell massively obviously some phones will have problemes like 10%. If you see the most popular phones have problemes.
I've got mine and its a model ht23 without any problemes its the first hox I have and the only.
And with expansys you will have internacional warranty for 2years and houses for support on your country. Trust in expansys!

hmm and what about oll these negative posts??
I did indeed NerdGuy, sorry! But working with Simply Electronics the months just seem to blend into each other it takes that long. I was told today that my refund will be with me within 7 days, I'm neither holding my breath nor stopping the daily emails, after 27 days of asking I fail to believe they'll pull their finger out any time soon.
I learnt the hard way also over a month to get my 500$ back. Since then anything expensive I buy in person regardless if it's $100 cheaper online.
